Гвоздика (Carnation)

An excellent repellent aroma for drinking tea outdoors or for walks in the woods. For those who love outright spicy floral carnation like me. It’s not a bad idea to apply it to your hair and odorize your bed sheets just like in your school years. In the modern version from Novaya Zarya, spicy cloves are served with the green essence of ylang, and this is very good. Green, almost unsweetened, spicy and fresh jam. Sometimes you want to rest your nose in this now unusual combination which you won’t feel on anyone in the crowd.

Gvozdika goes on with a big blast of the titular clovey carnation. It's moderately strong for an EdC – really nice. I'm not usually into soliflores but it certainly smells good. The heart's carnation accord is excellent, revealing a balsamic sweetness, without ever going too sweet. The clove accord reaches well into the spicy amber drydown and I think there's patchouli cutting through the styrax's sweetness. A subtly musky amber drydown brings a satisfying finish as a skin scent with good longevity and a distinct character of carnation lasting many hours. Quick note on some of the varying reviews: Novaya Zarya makes their fragrances in both eau de cologne and proper perfume concentration, so that may account for it. I can see a perfume version of Gvozdika being powerful indeed!

This is a nice mild spicy, fresh and a little greenish carnation! Simple and gorgeous! In Russia, they use these ODC as after shave lotion and Gvozdika is one of their best. This is NOT strong at all. It fades away really quickly. As a scent, it has moderate projection and poor longevity.

I know this sounds crazy but IMO this smells very similar to Blue Carnation. They both have a very strong carnation scent in the beginning. Blue Carnation lasts longer but this is a very inexpensive way to get a little bit of the vibe of Blue Carnation.

This scent is heavy on carnation and I am thinking cloves.It is so strong - even for edc - it will knock your socks off.Nobody in their right mind would willingly put this on themselves - it clings, it is non-washable, it is powerful and it kills mosquitoes in the radius of 5 miles in the deep deep woods.That was the main purpose of this lovely creation when I was growing up. I don`t think anything have changed; but now I am getting more merciful stuff to repel insects. Despite of all this, it grew on me - it is definitely unique and one of a kind.

I argue that these are not stinkers, olga1780. Everybody's nose is different and everyone approaches a scent with their own preconceptions and expectations. To me, this is a pleasant, cheap skin toner that smells nice and fades away, not unlike Bath and Body Works scents. Actually, better than Bath and Body Works scents, as they are too heavy on the synthetic sandalwood for me. To each his own, and no reason to be mean about it.

I disagree that this is so awful. Meant to be a skin toner, it goes on admittedly very strong and yes, it's carnations and cloves, but it's bracing and fresh. Fades down very quickly to nothing and is gone within a few hours.

It's just getting better and better.....Red Moscow, Troinoy Odecolon, and now this! The Soviet stinkers are in such high regard in the US! Unbelievable!
