Patchouli Magique

Do you remember the movie "Chocolate" with the young and beautiful Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp? The old shop, more like an esoteric shop, in my opinion, could smell like the Magic of Patchouli. Or here's another: the narratologist Aletheia, the refined, brilliant but lonely owner of the Genie from the movie "Three Thousand Years of Desire". Simply because the whole movie is imbued with this vibe: a kaleidoscope of historical love stories through the centuries, united by beautiful Constantinople. But most of all (and how predictable!) the embodiment of this perfume for me remains the seductive and cynical vampire Lestat from Anne Rice's "Chronicles". And in both of his hypostases: Tom Cruise, adjusting his time-eaten lace cuffs, during on his way to another Interview, or the rock star Lestat from Queen of the Damned, with his enchanting voice and fishnet shirt. It's all about them: the alluring but constantly elusive beauty of dark chocolate, liqueur notes in the blood of another victim, the paradoxical sexuality of patchouli from marble hands which almost fourth hundred years old - to bury your nose in it and inhale it until the end of time! Velvet frock coats from the Renaissance, leather pants from the 2000s, and a constant thirst. For power, recognition, love... blood? And everyone will find something for themselves.

One of the very best patchouli fragrances ever. I bought mine around 2000-2003 when cosmeticsbag.com was still around and it sold a bunch of Russian fragrances for a short time. No, I wouldn't have remembered where I got it all this time; my bottle has a Russian label so I pasted the anglicized name of the perfume and the website onto the back of the bottle. Patchouli Magique is absolutely a modern post-1980 patchouli scent. Not a circa 1968 hippie perfume. Flash Oils Patchouli was definitely not the inspiration of this one. Lots of sandalwood and incense here, but you're in a refined library or museum here, definitely not in a head shop. The juice in my bottle has held up very well over the years. And they're still selling them as cheap as they were in 2000. I'd be buying another one if I found one offered by a US or European seller.

blind buy, very reasonanly priced. luckilly, i do like it a lot. it smells natural and soft. i am not an expert when it comes to patchouli, i used to dislike it and avoid it for years. turns out i only dislike it in combination with sweet fruits, in other cases iusually find it quite interesting, and especially suitable for autumn. i smell patchouli mostly here, not much else. i do like it quite a lot, except a short moments for about 3-4 hours into wearing, when it gives a slightly unpleasant medicinal note. luckilly, it goes away. i do think it is for patchouli lovers.

Oh my goodness... This is one hell of a gorgeous patchouli in the sea of modern artificial patchouli perfumes today. Even if someone doesn't like patchouli, like myself, I will not hesitate to recommend this one to try. It's a soft, sweet, dusty and, wait for it...chocolatey patchouli with hint of vanilla in the dry down, smells sooo good and natural it's almost like aromatherapy. This is a comfort fragrance for me, warm and cosy. When I have it on it feels like I buried my face in soft Russian sable fur coat from the wardrobe of my grandmother. Mmmm... C'est magique.

Finally It's here on fragrantica!!! I'm screeching with joy! This is one of my favourite perfumes. It is so nice and rich smelling, you could never guess how little it costs. It is very similar to Juozas Statkevičius pefume (at least for me) Smells a little bit old fashioned (but isn't it a plus?) and the opening is quite loud, but once it settles it becomes mostly comforting and warm. I hope they will never discontinue it!

A must-have for patch lovers. Not a sweet headshop patch but a real true herbal patchouli like the actual plant. Reminds me of a less potent Reminiscence Patch. Patchouli mostly with some sandalwood, musk and labdanum.

this was my great-grandma's favorite smell! to me it smells like dark chocolate and wet soil. it's vintage, unique and makes you feel like a sexy librarian.

I can see why Patchouli Magique gets so much love. Big blast of headshop patchouli and amber right from the start. This is not normally my thing, but I have to admit it's very well done here and highly reminiscent of some patchouli niche frags at 20x the price. As it dries down, the wafts coming off are very moreish, but only if you like patchouli. (I do, but generally don't like fragrances focused on a single ingredient.) Putting nose to wrist brings out the sweetness, but otherwise it's very resinous. Like most of these types of simple orientals, the fragrance is somewhat linear and with good diffusion and longevity. Very likeable and competent composition – especially for the price! The far drydown is where Patchouli Magique really shines. This extraordinary phase features a remarkable genuine sandalwood accord. This is bewildering, unless my bottle happens to be vintage, considering the price of real Santalum album e.o. That plus the amber and musk remind me of the amazing drydown of vintage Patou Sublime. Truly exceptional – and for the price, an absolutely stunning value.

The smell of the 70s. Long skirts, desert boots, velvet and cheesecloth - all infused with patchouli. Lovely. This is very obviously patchouli, so I agree with other posters that you need to love patch to enjoy this. There's a good dose of incense too. However, it's very well done and the other notes give it depth and warmth.

Very dry and dusty (I guess, vanilla and incense creates it) patchouli. Something like old books could smell. I reach for this smell in autumn and in dry breezy days of summer.

I had to really search for this one, but despite my general aversion to patchouli, it sounded like a good one to try. I do like patchouli when it's blended well. This goes on me as a very woody and almost medicinal scent, smelling more like oud than patchouli. It dries through a stage that smells like mint and barn floor; Really weird and very animalic and dirty. It's almost like body odor, and I really dislike this stage. On fuull dry down, however, it is a soft and fragrant patchouli with powdery velvety notes, really pretty in the dry down.The ride there is not my thing, but once you get there, it's lovely. I'm glad to have been able to try this, but I gave the bottle to my sister.

Similar to the original Prada scent but lighter, drier, and dustier. and I think of this as unisex. It also does't have that sour quality that the Prada does. It's quite sweet at first but that doesn't last long. Overall, this is smells natural and is well done. The patchouli is not too strong and the balance is just right (for me). Obviously, it's not especially original or complex, but it should be good for layering.

I really hate strong patchouli notes. I wanted to like it, but this bottle stood in the deepest corner of my cabinet. It isn't very strong or unwearable, much warm and cozy, but you have to like patchouli note. By the way, i love Statkevičius, but i cant't find any similarities between them.
