Myrrhe & Encens

A milky myrrh potion with persistent (clean) patchouli facets haloed in an "incense", soft & distant - itself embellished by slight nuances of herbaceous pages of papyrus with a cinnamon stick bookmark - nestled in a powdered boudoir sofa... or rather the memory of some such dimly lit chamber. And call me crazy but somewhere in the recesses of this room there's a vase of roses... long since dried out. Therein lies the mystery?? Something about this wants to be naughty but it's still innocent. There is a purity - a certain sacredness. It's uncomplicated but warming enough in a resinous quiet. At long last the hot, humid summer has graciously given way to a rainy October cleansing the earth & senses for the coming cool north wind. I reached for this today and felt the promise of Autumnal delight, holy days ahead, and the fortification of warm (in from the cold) as yet distant winter nights. Wonderful for layering or simply to cuddle up with as sillage is utterly unobtrusive though longevity is quite impressive - I get five hours even after bathing(!) and otherwise all evening through the morning light from the black label "concentre". I appreciate the aesthetic of this brand and that they offer 200ml & 500ml refills, which are an excellent value. My only quibble with this lovely is just how VERY intimate the sillage is; if only it would project beyond an embrace. But perhaps that's just my skin. ★★★☆☆

Myrrhe & Encens does exactly what it says on the bottle, and really lives up to its name. Initially it opens with a contrasting combination of bitter citrus and spicy cinnamon which is a little bit off putting in my opinion, but after less than a minute it starts to transform for the better. This scent is an overdose of myrrh. It celebrates this enchanting resin in all of its beautiful facets. The myrrh here is dark and smoky, dry and thick with an almost chewy element to it. The incense elevates this smokiness in the best way possible - it’s not old and churchy, but dry and subtle as it should be. Combine this with a fantastically earthy patchouli and you’re left with something gorgeously smooth and masculine. I am hugely surprised by this fragrance. It was gifted to me and I had never heard of this house before but I’m very keen to explore more of their offerings after this. The quality is fantastic for the price, it smells incredibly natural and well blended to the point that this could easily be bottled as a ‘luxury fragrance’.

Absolutely stunning fragrance. Which is extremely underrated and I'm surprised that it hasn't had more love from incense and resin aficionados. Whether you want to layer it or wear it alone. This little gem falls into the same category of Estee Lauders old school classic Cinnabar,which is actually a bit too much for me, and I normally love vintage orientals. But Cinnabar would knock me and someone else out at 50 paces. But Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux Concentree,black label, isn't like that. Is the graceful relative; whom long ago abandoned NYCs 5th Avenue, with its fur coats, Estee Lauder facials and Manhattan's and gave all their money to a good works; heading for a much quieter,simplified and a dignified, spiritual life in a Byzantine abbey/monastery. Taking simple pleasure in quiet contemplation of God and the universe, surrounded by flickering candles, resinous incense plumes and warm fire at night. This scent warms your soul, with honeydewed amber kisses, cinnamon sticks, myrrh wine and the sweetest patchouli one can find.

If you're looking for a perfume that smells sacred and holy in all the right ways, this one is for you. It's the soft and heavy incense that lingers inside catholic churches, mellowed by a warm spice that on first projection gives it a almost damp stone quality. To me, it smells cool while being a beautiful spice and amber blend. I've been looking high and low to find an oriental of such quality and so far, none of them compare. I wish it had a little more projection (sillage is pretty decent on me) but for its price, it feels very fair.

The notes on fragrantica are not the right ones. The notes are bergamot, cinnamon, undergrowth - myrrh, patchouli, papyrus wood - musc, incense, tonka bean. Gorgeous fragrance.

This fragrance is pure HEAT. The syrupy cinnamon, mixed with smoky incense creates a tantalizing aroma of hot and sweet seasonal spice. Ever take a shot of Fireball Whiskey? This does for my nose what that shot does for your mouth, in the best way. On top of the viciously hot aroma, this fragrance is also quite the beast. The initial spray has a punch of hot and sweet cinnamon that leads into a rather sweet and balmy myrrh note, taming the fragrance a bit. It lasts for hours and is not afraid to project, so be moderate with the sprays. Definitely safer to wear in colder weather, Fall or Winter. What I really love about this is you can really smell the quality. It smells pure, no synthetics to be found in here. I see this working really well for more intimate settings. A nice date with your loved one, walking around town, examining the holiday decorations. I picked up a 50ml on FragranceX a while ago for about $25 if I remember correctly. At that price, it’s an absolute bargain. Don’t hesitate!

On me, Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux has a rather simple evolution. Like its name suggests, I got mainly creamy myrrh on my skin, while incense adds a bit of woody backbone. The myrrh here doesn't have much aldehydic nuance, but mainly the balmy, suave sweetness further enhanced by warm tonka bean. The incense here is not overly cold or spicy, either, just gets enough zest and structure to the otherwise resinous, creamy myrrh and tonka bean. Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux stays mostly close to skin for about 7 hours. Although it's hardly the most mysterious oriental fragrances, I find it a very versatile and approachable warm resinous fragrance, thanks to its simplistic development and gentle sillage, and especially great for the price. I'd definitely recommend it as a budget resinous myrrh fragrance.

To all lovers of mysterious and deep fragrances, try Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux by 100Bon! Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux has a strong myrrh opening with just a slight hint of patchouli. It is deep and heavy, yet quite feminine. It is nothing like Davana & Vanille Bourbon in scent composition; Davana & Vanille Bourbon is sweet and fresh, whereas Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux is a one tone fragrance with no change or play in the composition. Musk and amber give the fragrance a lovely caramelised or even slightly burnt quality, which is only further supported by the base note of incense. I am on the look for the perfect myrrh, and decided to give this a try. Opening with a lot of incense and patchouli. The myrrh is first absent but comes around after the top is vanishing. All in all a simple but pleasant scent, with a very short longevity and quiet sillage. I never mistake simplicity for lack of quality, but I wonder if the natural ingredients can not be made to hold for more than an hour? For the low price point this is a nice soft skinscent for the cooler months, but I would not call it a perfume. More on the patchouli side of the things, I'll continue my search for the myrrh.

Vanilla, rather than cinnamon at the start, which lingers through the dry down, before fading away quite rapidly and banishing the incense almost entirely. Nice while it lasts but disappointing overall. Having said that, it is offered at a bargain price and has much the same impact as Heeley's overpriced incense-based fragrances.

Smells exactly like my mother’s Serbian Orthodox church — incredibly photorealistic. The first time I smelled it, I was instantly taken back to the priest swinging the censer during mass. Smoky, thyme-laden incense that feels both gothic and cold. Gives Passage d’Enfer a real run for its money.

A blast of resinous fir with a drydown of sweet cinnamon. For me, this combination means a perfect Christmas fragrance: Christmas tree and rice pudding with sugar and cinnamon. Not what I expected but it's lovely, inoffensive, long lasting and great value for money.

I seldom wear Myrrhe & Encens Mystérieux by it self, I use it for layering. But its not because I think its boring by itself, its just because it works so well with other scents. I really like the simplicity of this one.

It's interesting! Maybe something I'd smell rather than wear but it is very far from a bad fragrance. Whoever mentioned Christmas is spot on, it does have a festive element to it of pine trees, hearth fires and sweet things. Maybe toasting marshmallows over the fire, dark and smokey but with a rich slightly sweet element. Glad I got it in sample format, broaden my horizons.

I blind-bought the fragrance. On the day it arrived, I wore it to my aunt's place, and her initial reaction was like, "Did you just visit the temple?" It smells like joss sticks, especially with the subtle smokiness. Religious, mystical, you name it, but the musky dry-down is lovely.

On me it was plain cheap vanilla not myrrh nor anything else listed. I had to wash it off immediately. Mystérieux indeed!

Not really for me, smells too synthetic.

(This review is for the black-label, concentree version of the scent.) If the discontinued Bvlgari Black, L'Occitane's Eau de Baux and Replica's Jazz Club joined forces, you'd have something akin to this lovely fragrance. As a fan of all three, it's a new favorite for me. I happened upon this brand while visiting New Zealand and was impressed, but didn't test this particular fragrance out until my return, when the promise of "mysterious incense" piqued my curiosity enough to blind-buy a travel bottle. At first, I was unsure if I'd made a mistake. While agreeable and pleasant, was it original enough? After wearing it for a few hours I decided that indeed, it was. The cinnamon is what sets it apart, and its so well-blended it's not even obvious that it's cinnamon. This fragrance is creamy and rich, while never feeling heavy or cloying. There is also something nearly animalic about the drydown (I don't see labdanum listed in the notes, but maybe?), tempered by a cedar which bears the sweet aroma of freshly cut wood. It's linear to an extent, but I find it's more woody at times, more amber-y vanilla at others, dancing back and forth between the two until it disappears the next day. (I didn't get any notes of patchouli.) I love the idea of sustainability, natural ingredients, and anti-animal-cruelty propagated by the brand, and have been quite impressed by the longevity of this one. I've tried a few others in the line and the longevity seemed a bit lacking, whereas this one stays glued to my skin and doesn't let me down. While absolutely unisex and leaning towards masculine in the bottle, it actually smells a bit more feminine on my skin. Sweet, intimate, woody and unique. Absolutely unisex and genderless, quite sexy on anyone, I'd imagine.

You have to love Myrrh to get on with this. I actually gravitated to this fragrance for Incense but its actually quite subtle. It's the resinous quality of Myrhh that shines with a hint of sweetness maybe from the cinnamon. But once it starts to dry down the Myrhh relaxes just a little and allows the amberwood to come forward more along with the musk and again the dash of sweetness. Making it a very warm comforting scent but not one that can't be worn in warmer seasons. Because with this perfume house being about natural fragrances they do not have beast mode projection or last extremely long. However for this scent that's great as any more initial projection and it would be too much and would definitely have to be worn only in colder weather. Also compared to other fragrances they make this one lasts a whole lot longer but please still not expect more than 4/5 hours'ish. But it all works for me as I was looking for something incense, woody, hint of sweetness but non fruity or floral I can wear in summer. Now I have to somewhat agree with the reviewer below in that this fragrance is Spirtual experience as opposed to just a 'I like this fragrance let me wear it' type thing. It for me invokes this sense of calm, meditative, contemplative energy. And right now after wearing a few days I'm still not sure if its this energy I enjoy or I genuinely just enjoy the fragrance and want to smell like it. But I suppose it doesn't really matter which one as long as I'm enjoying it!

I'm a little obsessed with 100 Bon fragrances. They have unusual combinations and deep dark notes that appeal to me, and I even love the packaging with its raw recycleable look. I'm collecting the woody spicy versions and may have found the best ever in this. There's a resonance with my Catholic childhood and the heavy incense of Benediction on Wednesday afternoons, though this is lighter and sweeter. Some fragrances are so sublime that you want to be surrounded by them, and this definitely fits that category, even though it doesn't have great longevity or sillage. If I could I'd buy gallons of the stuff and pump it into my home regularly so I could live in clouds of Myrrhe & Encens. It's heavenly.
