ok so this is what i wrote on the morning after testing this: "Ok so it opens up VERY SWEET, almost feminine, kind of syrupy and cloying, the kind of sweetness that reminds you of honey or molasses. i've heard many people describe the opening as patchouli-heavy and that if you wanna smell this without sampling, you can buy a small bottle of patchouli oil. I did that and it's definitely different. Straight-up patchouli is bity, medicinal, and dry, and the opening definitely isnt that. probably the patchouli is so well-mixed with the other ingredients, it just becomes a sugary mass (not unpleasant though). then, the eucalyptus and the pimento kick in, giving this a very slight cooling effect (i read somewhere that the chilling feeling is added to mimick the feeling of nakedness, similar to both Christ and the woman who performed Female Christ). the coldness doesn't last long though, as the sweetness swings back in full force, this time accompanied by WOODS. here, i definitely understand where people draw the "rotting church/rotting wood" comparisons, it is pretty photorealistically that. some friends who have smelled this on me said that it reminds them of church and sunday mass (we're all orthodox), and i don't really get that, though i understand the vibe. as it finally dries down on my skin, the cashmere wood takes over and it becomes a very beautiful, wearable, wood scent. not evil nor hippie (like many others have described this scent), just subtle, slightly strange and overall gorgeous. two puffs of this are enough to fill a room, it's very strong. wear with caution

i was immediately hooked when i found out about this perfume. as a girl who grew up in a very religious christian household, i knew i needed this for my religious trauma LOL. i got a sample, and i can say with confidence that i will be buying the full size bottle. i am in love with this scent, i'll go as far as to say it's the best thing i've smelled. i've always leaned towards more woodsy, earthy scents, and this is everything i didn't know i was looking for. but i will say, if you're not too big on patchouli, this won't be for you. the patchouli note is very strong on opening, and it also has a sterile, clean feel to it. the tad of spice is a very nice touch, in my opinion. definitely can see how it's described as an old church. it definitely brings me back. it smells and feels warm, sexy. i was worried it might come off as grandma, as i've gotten comments like that with my more "unconventional" scents (usually the "b&bw and ariana grande cloud and nothing else" crowd), but i have received compliments on it, and my man likes it too which is always a plus haha. this sht got me feeling like i'm the daughter of a preacher planning my escape with my piece of trash boyfriend in the church basement after a huge fight with my parents. perfect for fall and winter months. absolutely obsessed.

I actually blind bought this, which was risky based on some of the reviews on here. Lucky for me this fragrance rocks and was exactly what I didn't know I needed. Upon first sniff I was immediately thrown back to when I used to sniff the Nemat amber oil and Kuumba made oils in the beauty and wellness section of Whole Foods (I'm not sure if wf still carries oils this was pre Bezos) while my mom shopped for organic produce. So there's this hippy whole foods mom vibe that is definitely more present during the dry down, like at the end of the day all I can smell is the amber. Honestly, I don't really get the church/mass vibe that other reviewers have mentioned. Maybe because I'm not Christian so to me the smoke in this doesn't smell "incencey" to me like a middle eastern style of incense would. To me, this smells like a whole foods mom with a little weird edgyness. Like someone who religiously buys organic produce and does a lot of coke. I could imagine that the sharp herbal/medicinal smell at the beginning that kind of assaults your nostrils at the beginning would feel like the stinging sharpness of snorting coke.... I could imagine!

Female Christ reminds me so much of my great grandfathers home in a way that has been concerning me since I smelled it. The opening is so wet. Soaks into your skin and sort of gives off a mildewy, poorly ventilated, stuffy bedroom with wood paneling vibe. I'm also shocked at how few reviewers are getting a chocolate note. That is what grabbed me first and what remains after a while on the skin. Not sure how many people will resonate with this but I once tried a chili flavored chocolate (and didn't love it) and that is what the base of this fragrance smells like. It's rich and thick and really sits in the middle of your throat like spice. There is an old resinous, maybe lacquered, wood somewhere in there and, despite the dampness just soaking this fragrance, feels a little dusty. The longer it dries the more I feel like I'm sitting among the pews in an abandoned church on a hot afternoon in the deep south. It does not radiate much and doesn't last nearly long enough for my liking. Though I do really love it. It's very unique. Feels dirty and fun in an interestingly vile way. I'd easily be tempted into a full bottle.

First off, let me tell you how you're supposed to wear this perfume: you layer it over one of those perfumes that last like 3 days. On the second day when it's a little faded, a little dirty (like on a jacket a scarf a sweater jeans, things you don't wash right away), you use this and idk what magic happens to make it work, but it works, it's at pique an hour in. You'll totally change your mind about this perfume, I promise. You could actually apply this to anything that's very patchouli forward. Also: this perfume smells exactly like my favorite aunt, all it needs is a little second hand cigarette smoke and a grape Powerade note and it'd be complete 😂 she loves her patchouli. Female Christ even has an Aussie Hairspray note (she always used to use Aussie)! It's a truly unique perfume, and close to my heart.

Right out of the gate, I get “hippie” patchouli (which I love) crossed with unlit grape incense stick. But this is so much more. A rich, complex, and captivating artistic journey. Warm, ambery, resinous, lusty. Very patch-forward on my skin. A punch-you-in-the-face, earthy, camphorous patchouli that is masterfully tempered by velvety cashmere wood and soft vanilla. The minty-cool wintergreen, savory pimento, juicy rhubarb, and sweet geranium are all particularly pleasant parts of this brilliant composition. I compulsively sniff myself, attempting to pinpoint each of those notes, one at a time, to enjoy individually. Really love this fragrance. Purple Haze, too (which I have a bottle of). Both so good I want to smell everything 19-69 has crafted.

@ClassicsLover maybe you should read the story behind the fragrance and the brand before posting a comment, if you've got such brave, well formed and rounded opinions 👍the performance art piece that is behind this fragrance was initially named "The expulsion from the temple", after the bible story "the cleansing of the temple", and the message of the piece is the same as in the bible. there is no blasphemy here, only appreciation for a woman who commented on anti-cosumerism and capitalism in a unique and thought provoking way, the same way that Jesus did when he expulsed the money changers who were desecrating the temple of Jerusalem. hope this helps :) plus the name is metal af

Well. Wow. I had heard about this perfume, and then when I saw it the first time I smelled it: odd. Good? The second time I sprayed a card and brought it home, put it on my dresser. Odd. Good. Interesting. The third time I tried it on; fascinating. Beautiful. I HAVE TO HAVE IT. I bought it. It's mine. Thanks me. This is SUCH a perfume. You wear it, you will be that bitch. It smells like nothing I've ever smelled before. Warm. Nutty (in a great way). Bright. It's the garden of an antique store where you have come to pay your respects to mother earth and an ancient god. To me it smells like my soul. And yes. I get the irony. I am that bitch.

This perfume is everything to me. It makes me feel, sexy, cool, earthy and interesting. The first scent that hits me is pachouli (I love) and eucalyptus which then dries down to a warm, woody, earthy smell, and slightly sweet which I think is the benzion. There are so many notes that i like in this perfume and I have just purchased a 100ml bottle after wearing a sample for a few days. Gorgeous on my skin, I can't take my nose away from my wrist/neck of my shirt. I do wish there was more silage and that it lasted longer on me but I can still smell it on my clothes at the end of the day so not a huge deal. I will be wearing this daily.

This fragrance has such a vintage smell to it, like I'm standing in an old church with old wooden paneled walls and carpet. It's not a rotten smell, rather a familiar smell like visiting your grandparent's church that's succumbing and withering to the nature around it. It's earthy, warm, and sweet but has a subtle spice to it. It's long lasting, sometimes I can smell it on my wrist into the next morning. This was the first perfume I've had someone stop and ask what it was. I've grown to really love it, sometimes layering it with other fragrances of mine. I can see myself purchasing this again!

i've had my eye on this FOREVER and finally got to wear test her. i'm just as obsessed as i thought i'd be. this is the perfect sexy cool girl scent - no one else in the room will smell like you. the rhubarb, patchouli, and amber together REALLY does something for me. it envokes an approachable yet still mysterious vibe that i will 100% be wearing on future nights out. smells a lot like breaking into a church for a drunk cigarette and popping a piece of bubblegum in before your mom picks you up so you don't get caught. i imagine effy from skins may have worn this fragrance.

There is something deeply intriguing and intoxicating about this that I can’t stop sniffing my arm. So perfectly blended and harmonious that I just don’t know what I’m smelling. Dry woodiness with a unique aromatic quality without any herbiness. Sweet and sour. Dry and damp. Warm with a hint of standoffishness. There’s a softness in the dry down. I wouldn’t usually think of wearing this at all but I’m convinced to give it the space and time it needs for full appreciation. Will edit my post accordingly once done!

I like this one because I like smelling like wet wood, dirt, and patchouli. 100% not for everyone, I personally enjoy it because it's a scent that really takes you on a journey thru the dry down period. It goes from sharp, herbal, and medicinal to soft, woody, and earthy and I truly enjoy that shift. It's a really unique perfume but it will never be a compliment grabber. Everyone saying it smells like an old or rotten church is right, if you don't like that description going in don't even bother with it.

Redolent of nuns claustrated in airless convents, rotting among mouldering wood, parchment, eucalyptus oils and incense while, outside, geraniums in the courtyard bloom. Not a scent for everyone, it has a spoiled sweetness that can be off putting, but it's this necrotic note that makes Female Christ so intriguing. I can see why a lot of people think this is suited to the cold, but I'd argue that it's equally appropriate for a sultry heatwave when everything is rapidly ripening and souring.

A perfect combination of sweet and amber, with a striking eucalyptus top note that affords the fragrance a subtle sharpness that prevents its inviting qualities from ever getting too "cuddly." About as summery as I'm ever going to get, its resinous warmth reminds me somehow of Lush's criminally underrated and discontinued Sikkim Girls, though its preference for geranium over SG's heady white florals gives Female Christ more of a "body high," whilst at least almost just as sexy.

Okay, after reading so many of the reviews that say the scent is overpoweringly sweet and not at all like an old church; however, after trying it once, I think this may be one of my new favorite perfumes. Immediately after putting it on, there is a peppery, old-wood scent that slowly develops into a more fresh, almost caramel-y smell. It definitely smells like the old one-room churches I grew up in, with a bit of extra sweetness. I'm absolutely obsessed.

Sniff test on paper: very medicinal florals and a bit chemically, not for me. Sniff test on my skin: holy crap, signature scent worthy for me. Smells like a misty and solemn forest, freshly rained on wet soil at the base of an old tree. Smells like dusty pews in an old church, harbouring layers of incense burned long ago that cleansed sin after sin. Witchy women and people with religious trauma would eat this one up, bonus points if you’re both!

i fear that this might be the best thing i've ever smelled. i want this running through my veins, i want to bathe in it. it triggered my fight or flight the second i smelled it, but with an underscore of uncontrollable carnal desire. i plan on wearing this so often that my first born comes out smelling like it. i couldn't care less if anyone thinks it's too strong to wear every day. this is the scent of a spiritual warrior...Female Christ.

I love this fragrance, but it definitely takes a certain person to wear it. The best I can describe is this is not a girly, fresh scent, but a crisp, warm bohemian green scent. The eucalyptus is prominent along with patchouli, incense, and vanilla. I usually dislike camphor smells in perfume, I find them more masculine then I prefer, but I love this one. It's a nostalgic, elegant hippie store where the mysterious girl hangs out and reads.

Female Christ opens immediately with a sweet and spicy, peppery note, that immediately dries down into a resinous, benzoin, powdery fragrance. Even in the dry down the pepper is still making an impression, which is quite attractive but can come across as antique. This is a completely unique and well blended fragrance. The projection is intimate as I don’t observe the sillage and longevity doing any heavy lifting here unfortunately .

I didn’t want to love it because I’ve gotten so many instagram ads for it, but it’s so interesting and delicious and up my alley. Strong spicy pepper patchouli at first (in a way that made me originally skeptical... is this just going to be another mature fem patchouli?). But then... a woodsy, vintage, warm blanket of amber follows that is so so so addicting. Have worn this every time I’ve gone out at night during the summer.

Smells so good! I got a sample a few months ago and loved it. I had to get a bigger size. It goes wonderfully with my more elegant gothic outfits. It smells like a church with some subtle wine? Also a bit medicinal? My boyfriend agreed. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s very unique and comes together beautifully! It lives up to its name. Try a sample first. This is one of my more unique and favorite fragrances!

I am so in loveee with this fragrance. I found it from a tiktok trying to get recommendations for a church perfume. I will buy a full bottle soon. It’s sweet, kinda tangy and has a back smell of that reminds me of the incense i was looking for. it’s not as churchy as relique d’amor but its own vibe i love. more people pleasing. a rich 30 something mom would wear this and it would grab you instantly.

I usually dislike patchouli but I find this scent so fascinating. Yes, it smells like an old church but there's something that gives it a wine-like smell. Honestly, this smells almost like a communion wine + incense but romanticized, almost if church was actually interesting. I haven't worn it on skin much, but some of the sample I bought spilled onto my hand and I can't stop sniffing my hand lol

It took me a while to understand this one. Starts with an aromatic, herbal, wet, amber-like earthiness, settles down to a smooth, earthy, light, somewhat sweet, chocolate-like patchouli with camphorous nuances. Vanillic base comes and goes. Kind of reminds me of Francesca Bianchi’s Sticky Fingers, my favorite patchouli fragrance. This is quite beautiful and mysterious.

Love this one from 19-69! Female Crist is a warm sweet scent on me, I'm a guy. It is very pleasing and not really over powering or offensive in any way. I dabbed on a sample of this scent and I'm really enjoying it. I think I would get a bottle of this for the cooler months. It may work in the warmer months too but I think it's more of a fall/winter scent.

I really love this perfume. I got it as a Christmas gift. It's an awesome fall/ winter fragrance. I also admit I was draw to it due to the name and story behind it. Lots of cinnamon on me. And it totally reminds me of the 70s and a record store I used to go to. Black light room and the whole nine yards!!! This has fantastic lasting power and silliage!

Really cool fragrance that becomes earthier the longer you wear it. It starts out smelling a little like Smarties or parma violets, but rapidly turns into this resinous brick of cinnamon and patchouli that feels like it came out of the 60's. If you want a fragrance that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to Woodstock, look no further.

A beautiful, sweet, candy-like opening evolves into a light, slightly spicy wood scent. Not nearly as much patchouli as advertised, which is fine by me. As another reviewer has mentioned, there is a hint of wine in there somewhere - maybe a bubbly rose cremant from the Alsace. The vanilla comes through more strongly in the dry down. Very nice.

Addictive. Love-hate relationship. Not for a blind buy. This fragrance depends upon your skin chemistry and the weather. It is quite a unique profile. Patchouli here reminds me of the smell of the dust after the rain. Interesting and not boring. The technical characteristics are good, as it lasts quite long and can be heard for several hours.

Great name, huge points for not smelling like anything else that I've come across. Not just among other perfumes, but like, on earth. Makes my brain hum, trying to classify it. Can't stop smelling it. High weirdness, with the rhubarb and cinnamon and eucalyptus. It's rather pricey... perhaps there's also some scorpion venom in there.

i’m going to give myself a headache because i can’t bear to take my wrist away from my face, i smell so good. the first 10minutes are sharp, almost unpleasant, but attention grabbing. But by the time you go in for a second whiff— let’s just say i feel like i’m laying down my nets and becoming a fisher of men alright 😘🎣👬

A medicinal opening mellows out in a deep woody smoky scent. LunaFruit below mentions old church pews and I think they’re spot on. It smells like walking into a very old library with old wooden furniture and wooden beams. It’s very beautiful and atmospheric. I can’t stop sniffing my arm.

I smelled this while looking for a fragrance at SecntBar in Hollywood. I got a sample, and I cherish it to this day. I need it. I need it now. It reminds me of an old dusty cathedral, like what high school was like. The patchouli is intense, and stays spicy through the whole experience.

Got a sample of this one and fell in love. It's very woody and antique-feeling, like an old church basement (in a delightful way!), and it dries down to let the warm base notes shine! I get the vanilla, amber, and cashmere beautifully coming through after a bit of wear.

My staple scent at the moment. The smell oscillates between an old crystal shop and a moulding chapel, but weirdly it's quite sexy in its ruggedness, like a hot gender-neutral priest.

Sniff 1: This is chemicals. This is frankly a hard sell and not very memorable. Sniff 2: I need to have sex with this. On my skin: Oh my god I smell like the inside of a church.

Smells like rootbeer. My sister hates it. The rhubarb note in this is lovely. Kind of reminds me of gunpowder a bit. I probably will buy a full-size of this.

‘Female Christ’ – An interesting name that evokes a feeling of power in me. The initial spritz is dry, as dry as and old book or dusty old library. But then suddenly something warm emerges, almost metallic. Like you are walking in the middle of a concrete jungle in the middle of the summer, and you feel the sweltering sun vibrate in front of you. After a while you really smell what this one has to offer. This is woody, spicy, but fresh and floral at the same time. It transforms into a humid night. Like walking home from having had a few drinks. You walk through a park and breathe in fresh night air. You reach for a gum with eucalyptus flavour to hide the taste in your mouth from that last fireball shot you had. The eucalyptus and cinnamon blended with that patchouli gets almost magical in my opinion. Walking barefoot over the grass when you get caught in a sudden late summer rain. Coming gome and you clothes are wet and damp and smelling of grass. That is when I am that empowered female Christ. As I said initially, I think the concept of this perfume is intriguing. Fortunately the actual juice itself delievers and is actually pretty captivating when it gets to that green and spicy drydown. It is a beautiful autumn fragrance that is worthy of a place in my collection.

Ok so this is PICTURESQUE crystal shop smell. I'm not kidding. When my mom got me the sample pack for Christmas 2 years ago we smelled these together and I swear to god that it smells like every crystal store that I have gone to with some of my hippy-er friends. It's a mega blast of patchouli, eucalyptus, thyme, and geranium for me right off the top. So it makes sense why it smells like those stores with all of the essential oils strewn about and wafting into the air. The rhubarb adds this subtle sweetness to the scent, not like a sugar sweet but something more herbal/medicinal. Now that might scare people, but it is just the *tiniest* hint of it so it's amazing. It also has an undercurrent of musk throughout all of it, as well as the smoothness of the amber. The musky becoming heavier as it dries down on me. Again, it's the essential oils mixed with the musky spunk that resides over the whole store. This sticks on my skin like glue for the first 4-6 hours (depending on the heat), but then predominantly becomes a intimate musk/amber scent. This is a perfect fall/winter day scent, but it can work during any season so long as it's your evening scent. I love this scent, probably always will, but definitely sample it before you buy.

19-69 brand is a new discovery for me. I tried the fragrances in a store I was instantly intrigued with the scent. This is my first impression on a scent strip. The most interesting thing about this house is THE ARTISTIC idea behind the fragrances. All fragrances come from a social or political movement or historic event with reference to some iconic subjects like a picture. I recommend visiting their website to learn more about the story and concept behind each scent. The concept of this fragrance is about a Danish artist couple who did a performance art: walked through the Danish stock exchange nude and carrying a cross. The action took place the day before the Danish parliament repealed the law against visual pornography. As described by the brand: "‘Female Christ’ ensures that the memory of the art performance created and carried out by the artists Lene Adler Petersen and Bjørn Nørgaard at the Copenhagen Stock Exchange will live on forever." Talking about the scent, it's very creative and unique but also challenging. The patchouli is dominant. It's also very woody and ambry. The scent is complex and very difficult to describe. but I personally enjoyed it a lot. 8/10
