Babylon Sunset

Declaration: I make this. Alice is my husband's cousin. Her brother was staying with us and he said that it was Alice's 21st coming up, and he wanted to get a perfume for her. He had a very small budget, so of course I said yes and he got the best value bespoke perfume ever. The one he usually bought her was very pink... I'd made an 80s/90s accord during a course run by Karen Gilbert - as an exercise we had a go at the kind of big blossomed fruity florals that have disappeared now. My favourite is the long lost Deci Dela for Nina Ricci and I'd had an idea that I might be able to do a 90s style floral of my own. So I took that base, added a scarily expensive accord of rose, jasmine, honey and sandalwood, then used grapefruit, tangerine and raspberry. I found myself wearing it. It's my second favourite after Urara's Tokyo Café. Now my mother in law is in love with it too. I suppose that of everything I make, It smells most like what you'd expect to come out of a perfume bottle, but I wanted recapture the glory days of the first fruity florals in a scent that is still EU legal. On me it lasts all day.

Yes, admit I have a sweet tooth but all the better for appreciating this irresistable scent. The citrus notes are naturally immediately evident along with the honey and berry sweetness. The vanilla, musk and sandalwood become much more evident after the first hour. Sarahs perfume signature is responsible for the initial effervescent quality. It takes me back to being a wee kid and enjoying sherbert dib dabs but there is nothing childish about this lovely fragrance. Suffice to say its in my top five favourites from this house. Its extraordinary how men love this stuff. Its a man magnet! I think it is worth bearing in mind that you need to wear a fragrance at least twice before writing a review. Too many people do not give a fragrance a chance.

I had a sample of this back when it was called Says Alice. I really enjoyed the sample and wanted a FB of it and it is on my (admittedly rather long) want list. I have another sample and interestingly it is more citrussy than I remember. It is quite woody but the florals make this a very light and uplifting fragrance. As I find with this house, florals aren't big but bright and delicate. Honey comes in about half an hour in. I would still like a FB of this for the Spring and would recommend it to anyone who wants to smell "happy"!

This fragrance is sweeeet, but really rather lovely. Unlike the reviewer below I find that it lasts a long time on me, I applied it over 8 hours ago and can still smell it quite strongly. the vanilla/musky/honey/woody longer term dry down is just delightful. The description I received with my sample (I have since bought a 30ml bottle) says: 'Says Alice has a heart of real rose, jasmine and sandalwood, a base of sensual musk and vanilla, all drizzled with honey absolute. It's turning into our best selling scent'

This is a cheerful fruity floral. The citrus is predominant in the opening, giving way to the floral components. The honey combined with the grapefruit gives it a beeswax note. I like this very much but like others do find that the longevity is not tremendous. I repeatedly re-spray to enjoy the fruity opening. I find that Sarah's fragrances layer well and I like to layer this with Sleep Knot, which amplifies the floral and woody elements of Babylon Sunset.

Young perfume,delicate and sweet. Opens with a strong note of tangerine, with grapefruit and peach accents... it smells different than usual, reminiscent of summer days. Interesting how everything fits nicely, The drydown has a fresh and sweet atmosphere in the background, is also a melancholy little! A beautiful fragrance, I like. Sillage: 7./10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10

still loving this great scent! And I have to say it smells really fabulous layered with the Body Shop White Musk Libertine shower gel & body lotion. darling, I smell fabulous x

Just trying this one now,the opening is really lovely I get the mixture of citrus with a slightly jammy honey!And then a sweet candy type background.

Opens very creamy and sherberty. Settles into bright, playful orange and peach. Has a moment of powdery rose quite reminiscent of chalky sweets. Becomes rather waxy before it fades, like orange peel or candles. Very sweet and bright. It's a very "sweet shop" kind of perfume. The sherbert and vanilla are a lot like old style bonbons, the kind with the fizzy dusty outside and caramel centre. It's fun and playful but not childish. It still smells finely crafted rather than like cheap kid's cosmetics. It absolutely smells like strawberry shortcake dolls, but it's not an exact match. It's more subdued and rather waxy. Like finding an old battered strawberry shortcake doll in the back of your wardrobe rather than your actual childhood memories. The waxy end notes can be rather off putting to me. A bit too yankee candle, and not the good kind. It kind of reminds me of the bitter coloured outsides of fake marzipan fruits. I personally don't get any jasmine or sandalwood. Longevity is around 6 hours, not good enough for a perfume at this price for me.

It is a very lovely fragrance and quite unusual. It will be my next buy. I smell the honey slightly and the other flowery blends places it in a class of its own. Watch out TF you might have a new rival on your hands regarding this fragrance line. If the fragrances are blended in this manner than ppl will prefer this over high pricing any day TF. makes this an absolutely

From the sample I got of this it is a very pleasant fragrance but starts off quite faint and disappears completely in an hour. I do find some other frags from this house have better longevity but none of them are what you could call strong or long lasting.

A very comforting scent. I smell all the notes in there very clearly, the honey, the sandalwood, the fruits, the musk...and altogether very nice and harmonious. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :D

The drydown smells like candy necklace. YES

BS had a fun, playful, candy-like opening that was pretty brief. After that, it turned me off for about a half hour but I stuck with it. The dry down was both interesting and layered. Once it became more about the vanilla and berries, it was more inviting. I was sorry that the fruity top notes were overtaken so quickly by rose/jasmine/honey. After 2-3 hours it was pretty non-descript though. Not on my buy list but I had fun trying. Incidentally I tested this over a couple days against two other scents with jasmine--Jasmin Satin and Elegantly Tokyo. Of the 3, this one was the playful, fun-loving friend in the trio. Jasmin Satin was the over-the-top friend--voluptous and super rich and a bit in your face. Elegantly Tokyo was actually elegant (a surprise to me as I've tried the whole city series from Zara and this was the only one I felt fit the adverb in the name.). It was spare, austere, but rather beautiful especially for a low-low Zara price!

Says Alice is synthetic and dull with a capital "D". It smells like Pez mixed with very subdued, thin vanilla. I also detect a lot of orange. It almost disappears from my skin, although I slathered on half the sample. This is my second test from 4160 Tuesdays. Not sure I want to try any more, as they are about as impressive as I could make, and that says a lot.

If you take Guerlain's l'Heure Bleue as the starting point for a saturated but slightly melancholic floral, musky gourmand; and then take a step out of the shade into the dappled sunlight and shadows of Nicolaï's Sacrebleu, which has a fruitier, waxier feel but is nonetheless dusky and romantic; then take one more step into the full sunshine and you have Babylon Sunset, which shares the same feeling of fruits, musky florals and a gorgeous drydown of honey and sandalwood but is more resolutely happy in vibe. I get little citrus in this, but I do detect a clearer cranberry note. This is fruity and it is sweet but I like this despite usually ruling out "fruity sweet" fragrances (I even got rid of Black Orchid for that very offence) I agree that it smells slightly beeswaxy, which is a smell I love. I find the florals well-blended. The most delicious aspect is the honey-sandalwood note which goes on feeling rich and plush forever. Normally woody bases get a little tired and thin, but it is not the case here. It seems utterly decadent. I am not sure if this is really for me. I suppose it feels like an incredibly expensive and indulgent perfume for a very young woman. And on reading the story behind the scent, it turns out that is exactly what this is. I can see this being a total man-magnet. And it lasts all day with moderate to strong sillage.

This one is a lovely surprise. "Fruity and sweet" are usually words that put me off of a perfume, but while this one is fruity and sweet it's unlike any other fragrance with that description. It's difficult to describe this one because it's so original. It's fruity, floral and gourmand, but never becomes overwhelmingly any one of those things. I don't know who the Alice was that inspired this, but my daughter instantly christened it "the Wonderland perfume" and I think that fits pretty well. It's unusual, even a little odd, but in a very fun and whimsical way. The opening is mostly fruity (I'm guessing citrus, but don't quote me on that), but it soon becomes a honeyed floral with slightly resinous undertones. The sandalwood is pretty and subtle. I put this on at 8am and it's only just wearing off at 5pm, so excellent longevity. Sillage is moderate. It's pretty, fun, unusual but also very wearable. I really like this one.

I like this fragrance, but I don't love it. It opens with strong resins, opponax I believe and then musk and strong fruity notes come in. As it develops, sandalwood is strong and then blends into the whole. The honey note comes out more toward the end and the florals start out rosy with a bit of jasmine, but end smelling more of lily, which is not my favorite flower. This is a cozy scent, warm and definitely has resins in it for longevity along with the musk and some type of citrus. I can't distinguish exactly which one, possibly some bitter orange, but it has good sillage and reasonable longevity. After a couple of hours the fragrance blends more into a pleasing whole. I definitely would not call this a typical gourmand, though. There is the slightest medicinal tang to it that I don't like. Maybe they used olibanum, which can give that effect. It's interesting for sure.

I didn't really get any of the fruity top notes. For me, this opened with a great big blast of jasmine, vanilla and honey which didn't change after the dry-down. A bit like eating a deliciously light and creamy panna cotta in a magical fairy-lit garden at twilight rather than sunset!

Honey, Citrus, & Sandalwood with hints of musc and jasmines. It has a powdery note as well as a cosmetic powder note and both shown within seconds after applying. Red roses, as for the sharpness & i can't sense any peaches, vanilla, and no berries.

I got a fabulous top note of tangerine in this one but not in a sharp citrus way but in a very warm mellow tone . I think this would work equally well in a warm climate or in the cold of winter. Quite lovely.

Smells like strawberry shortcake dolls. Done :)
