Goodbye Piccadilly

This my mum , a teenager in wartime ( WWII in this case ) . Sitting at the worn but well polished table in the front parlour. Polishing her only good leather brogues with a dab of get dad's lavender brilliantine, ready for to go to work, showing Pathé News Reels at the local Gaumont, because the male ( they were all male ) projectionists had gone to war. Thoughts of her beau far away, as she stares at the only colour in the room, a pot of African violets, caught in a shaft of late afternoon sunlight, motes dancing in time to dreams. Warm, woody, lavender, violet and vanilla. I don't usually write abstract, lyrical reviews, but she passed away 4 years ago this week and I guess she was on my mind. I bought my first 4160 Tuesdays scent, because her ashes were scattered under her favourite pink flowered shrub, Rosa Ribes. I guess she inspired my latest purchase, too. Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell mum.

Oh, this one I love and may need to buy a bottle of. I feel this is Anne of Green Gables in a bottle. Anyone who knows me knows just how much of a praise that is. It's sensible, but expresses wonderment and imagination. Starts off as a musk candy but then goes for the vanilla, violets and iris creating a strange but beautiful nostalgic fragrance that eventually goes down the vanilla/ leather route. The leather in this is soft and fluffy - like velvet. To see that Sarah has likened this to a living room makes all the sense in the world. The beauty is in the top, middle and base. Amazing all the way through. Almost impossible to find anything to dislike about it (will get back to you when I find something)

One of my all-time favourites from my entire collection - I only discovered it in 2018 but it quickly became one of my most worn fragrances. I love it to bits, it is a mesmerizing perfume. Fluffy and friendly lavender conjuring up associations with lavender ice cream or lavender pastries. Cooling and sweet, inviting at the same time. It has excellent longevity and projection on my skin, one of the most potent perfumes I own and this is rare as my skin devours most perfumes quite quickly. Colour: dark purple Texture: velvet Mood: pensive but hopeful Did I mention I love it? ❤

I feel more like a Victorian noble lady than a working gal suffragette wearing this. To me it’s a sweet candied violet with a vanilla dry down. But I really don’t mind, it’s gorgeus and I want to bathe in I ( which I just did).

This is an intriguing perfume. I feel like I’ve gone into a long forgotten stately home - it’s musty, the gardens are overgrown but there is something so charming about it all. For me lavender is the strongest, followed by the powdery note. It’s quite subtle fragrance and I wish it lasted longer.

So I’m the only one who thought this smelled like burnt hair OR maybe I’m in the middle of a mini stroke? Hard pass, either way. Scrubber.
