New York 1955

I had a 1/4 full sample of this from a lovely Aussie Fragrance Network member and loved it so much. Sadly, this sample is now gone ... but in a wonderful twist of events (and due to a lovely friend who has offered to bring my purchases to me in Melbourne), I now own a 30mL bottle. As this type of scent isn't usually what I'd go for and the money I can spend is somewhat low, I purchased this during the scent of the week specials. (along with a 30mL bottle of Dark Heart of Old Havana) This reminds me of those pink lifesaver musks. It's sweet, pink and ever so pretty while also being a bit powdery. There's a rose in there too, it smells a bit like something from an expensive rose attar. 8.5/10 for this one. Personally, as its not my usual type of scent, its lower than 9.5 which would be my objective rating. I can wear the heck out of this.

This smells SO girly and "pink" and fun! Candied violets, raspberry, vanilla and musk. If you like big pink fragrances like Lipstick Rose, you need to give this one a try. I don't normally go for anything this sweet and pink but something about NY 1955 makes it work. Feels like big sillage also but I can't sniff myself so I'm not sure but I feel like a big, sweet, pink, powdery cloud! It actually reminds of an amped up and sweeter Kenzo Flower. If you like lipstick/makeup type fragrances this is a must try!

This is a really beautiful powdery Iris with a fruity element to it. The raspberry and violet are the strongest notes for me. Once it dries down the vanilla really comes out. It's a sweet, feminine and dainty but strong. It has that vintage-esque lipstick vibe to it. It makes me think of the powdery sweet-tart candies but with a fruity twist. Similar to Jimmy Choo Iris Crush but more fruity. Truth Beauty Freedom Love from 4160 Tuesdays gives me the same vibe as well.

I received a sample and I'm planning on buying a full bottle. It smells like powdered candy dusted on top of violets and roses. I prefer sweet fragrances so I really enjoy this. I appreciate that it doesn't smell synthetic or alcohol-infused. This is sweet, fruity, and playful. The cotton candy note is definitely there, so if you like gourmand fragrances and want to add another sweet perfume to your collection, please give this a try.

This smells to me like an ice cream sundae - vanilla ice cream with red berry jam sauce. There is violet and rose hiding in there too. It makes me think of an ice cream parlour with its hairsprayed and powdered ladies. This is a fun and friendly fragrance that suits all ages.

What a delicious sophisticated masterpiece. The notes are oh so feminine and the result could have just been like so many of the floral fruity sugary fragrances already out there but no, its a lady like cut above the rest. Very Breakfast at Tiffanys.

To me New York 1955 is all about the violets. It's light and pretty and puts a spring in your step. Lasting power is excellent, and I regard this as excellent value too.

I recently sampled 5 scents from 4160 Tuesdays, and of those 5, (the other 4 being, Over the Chocolate Shop, The Dark Heart of Old Havana, Captured by Candlelight, and Creamy Vanilla Crumble), this was the only one that I actually liked. It's got a lovely raspberry pink chalky sweetness all wrapped up in vanilla, and it's quite delightful to smell. Sadly, it doesn't last long, though. And it soon settles in to pretty much the same vanilla skin scent that I get from all the 4160 Tuesdays that I've sampled. That initial sweet raspberry is lovely though, and I would be tempted to buy a bottle, if it were about 1/4th of the price. Overall, my impression of this brand is that their packaging is super cute, the names are REALLY creative, and their ideas are really good, but their products don't seem to be very well made. The fact that the company has only existed 10 years and yet has 69 different scents is a bit of a red flag, in my opinion. Style over content, or something to that effect. If someone else feels completely differently, then good on you! It could very well be down to personal chemistry. But I had to give my honest opinion.

I'm writing this whilst wearing New York '55 having just filmed my YouTube review. The opening is both bright and sweet, imagine candied rose and violet petals decorated with a sprinkling of citrus flavoured sherbet. There's a red berry compote to the side with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. As the fragrance develops it loses it's fizz and becomes smoother, the ice cream melts and becomes a much more noticeable component. The combination of violet and roses brings to mind Guerlain makeup, meteorites in particular, those pastel coloured gorgeous balls of loveliness. Things get powdery and more vanillic as time moves along but it never loses all the listed notes, they just change in intensity and texture. If you like Chanel Misia, YSL Paris, Malle Lipstick Rose or Dans Tes Bras then this is definitely one for you to try. If this was a mass market fragrance it would be Pour Femme and I can see it in a Lolita Lempicka style bottle. It's whimsical and fun yet can be worn by anyone really in any situation. The projection is average and longevity great (over 9 hours and still not a skin scent).

I have just about given up on finding a winner within 4160 Tuesdays. With my chemistry, it seems like this whole house is a huge "Like - but not love." That being said - this is another big "Like - but not love." I can see this being a perfect fit for somebody's sweet-tooth, but for me it's a bit of a jumble. The opening of New York 1955 is a swirl of bitter sweetness - olfactory overload! The prominent notes are cotton candy, violet, and metric-ton of sour raspberry. Sweet, sticky, dense. The drydown is much more pleasant once the rose notes emerge and create that vintage-cosmetic-bag feel, much more dainty and composed! If you're familiar with the YSL Parisienne "type" of fragrance - that's exactly the territory where 1955 goes! While an interesting novelty in anybody's collection - this seems like something that would be Peg Bundy's signature. Highlights your femininity, but is a bit tacky, brash and in your face. Something about this perfume is amazingly fun and youthful yet it's also ladylike in all the right ways. I get the raspberry most prominently followed by violet. My first impression was of French raspberry bon bons. I don't smell anything super powdery about this perfume, not in comparison to something like Teinte de Neige, anyway. I notice a little cotton candy perhaps in the drydown, after a few hours, where the vanilla also comes out. It probably also contributes to the candy-like sweetness of the scent and is the reason I think of hard candies. I am throwing a tea party for my little one's birthday, and I found my perfect perfume for the occasion. I will enjoy the pastels, plastic tiaras, pretty tea pots and 2-tiered cake, and I will feel perfectly grown-up in doing so.

This is one of my 'happy' fragrances and one of the few 'pink' perfumes I enjoy. Playful, girlish candy floss and marshmallow at first, but its not the cloying, sickly- sweet gourmand thats fashionable right now. This is demure, ladylike and has a lovely lightness about it. The dry down is violet-rose and a dreamy, softly softly musk on my skin. The vanilla here is subtle. Sillage is moderate, longevity is good (as with all the fragrances I've tried from this perfume house) Another 4160 Tuesdays winner!

I am wearing my sample of this today, the weather is warm, sunny and breezy and this fragrance fits it perfectly! A mixture of fruity, floral and sweet but no single note seems to overpower the others, thus creating a wonderful mixture of vintage makeup and candy but it stops way short of being sickly. A happy and innocent scent for sunny days.

i got a sample of this and this is nice. Candied raspberries and candyfloss. Very soft and sweet. Girly and powdery. An easy perfume to wear if you like gourmant scents and want something from an indie brand. I didn't detect any medicinal smell like some people mentioned below. Just sugar and raspberries.

Blind bought this on reviews and notes. I was expecting more candy floss/cotton candy. I can’t really say I notice that at all. It’s definitely powdery, violets. It’s nice but I’m not mad in love with it. I can hardly smell the dry down at all but maybe it’s just me.

Apparently New York 1955 has been discontinued! The one truly decent scent in their whole line and they've axed it. Wow.

Rose and litchi give way to powdery raspberry pastilles. Oh so prim and coy.

This is more candy than Prada Candy, raspberry candy dust.

Seems very hit or miss whether you get the cotton candy; unfortunately I do not. The very beginning is the most interesting, where you get the suggestion of a sundae, though there is something unfortunately medicinal about it for me. Like the gas I received before my childhood tonsillectomy. Shortly it settles into a standard powdery violet, not terribly different from Putain des Palaces. There is just something about most violet scents that I find makes them smell like they came out of an aerosol can. More like mousse than hairspray, but still evoking beauty parlor more than ice cream parlor. The vanilla goes slightly smoky on me, bringing a heating curling iron to mind. If this were instead called "Steel Magnolias" or referenced the 1980's it would still be fitting. Just okay for me as I really wanted something sweet. Pretty low sillage and non-invasive.

On me this scent is straight up Parma Violets. There is nothing unique about this fragrance and nothing stands out. Sadly, like the majority of 4160 Tuesdays perfumes I’ve tried the longevity is pretty poor.
