Saltburn Driftwood

At first it was the marine freshness that struck me and then the smoke of a driftwood fire took over, so woodsmoke but still with a subtle tang of salt water. The only perfume I can think of that is anything like this is from another artisan British house: Naples by Gallivant, although in Naples,you get the fresh air of the coast but the woodsmoke is from a woodfired oven. It really is astonishing how Sarah McCartney and Luca Maffei tell us stories including woodsmoke and the freshness of a sea breeze but they are distinctively different. They are both, however, very lovely. Today I'm getting a medicinal note as well. It's a bit balsamic, a bit mossy, a lot gorgeous.

I can see the marine I guess. I will say, I like it for something else: on its way down the throat, it catches and you just sense this beautiful sweet smell. Almost like fresh dirt. You don't think that's a good smell but it's one of the most beautiful ones in the world. A direct sniff of this is like swallowing a sip of a nice drink, and that's a quality I really like it for. I can't say this is as salty and oceanic as I would like it to be, because I kind of wanted to be skullfucked with sodium, but this is a pleasant disappointment in that regard. Definite like.

This was actually like a driftwood camp fire on a rocky coast to me. Very nice, sort of tamer version of Chanel Sycomore or Lalique Encre Noir. I didn’t get much salt or marine notes. I think the addition of a more intense oily salt note would have made this completely fabulous, but I did enjoy it. This would be great for someone who would like a friendly smoke fragrance. For some reason I started thinking of s’mores on the beach while wearing this. How about a flanker with chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers?

Never have I ever felt so completely consumed by a scent. I initially purchased Saltburn Driftwood as a 10ml bottle from Hoohaa, as I'd heard so many people rave about 4160 Tuesdays but never had the pleasure of sampling any of the range. First sniff was "Mmmm, yes. Seems very well put together. Very nice." Then I forgot about it for a while. Somewhere between then and now, this fragrance has become my obsession. I very quickly ran down my 10ml bottle and started CRAVING it. Saltburn Driftwood gradually dug its wee, salty claws into my soul and it's not for shifting! It's the most beautifully addictive thing I've ever smelled. It's so evocative that I... licked my wrist, so convinced was I that it must taste as delicious as it smells. It does not. Please don't tell Sarah McCartney that I did this, as I imagine she would not approve. Whilst I awaited delivery of my first 50ml bottle, I was already planning when I could order 100ml. In the meantime, I ordered the Room Spray. Words cannot express how much I NEED to be enveloped in this utterly glorious aroma. Saltburn Driftwood is like nothing I've ever smelled before. It feels perfectly balanced and constructed. I can't even find the words to describe how calm and comforted it makes me feel. It's like a bracing walk along a freezing cold seafront on New Year's Day, with the people you love best. I want it surrounding me at all times. I've built up a nice wee collection of fragrances this past year, but this is the only thing I really want to wear at the moment. The Official Blurb says: "A walk along the beach on a breezy day, watching the surfers flying along the cold North Sea waves." I'm new to all the perfume patter (this is my first review), but I can confidently assure you that Saltburn Driftwood is flawless. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Everything this one claims to be, it absolutely is. Breezy, salty, oceanic, wonderful. It's fresh and marine yet woody, with a touch of sea vegetation; and there's the impression of herbs being burnt and the aromatic smoke being wafted in the distance. Somehow it's warm and cool all at once. It feels comforting, and the mid notes evoke a feeling of peaceful calm that arises when you spend time in British nature, particularly near water. Not something I would wear myself, but I would love to smell this on my man! There is a hint of warm, salty skin in the dry down that makes this one very nuzzlable!!

Dry sea salt, driftwood with a hint of seaweed. Slight rubbery edge but it lends to the melange rather than detracts. I started by not loving it as much as I thought I would, but it’s so much of a real tide pool PacNW feel that I really do like it a lot. Stays marked all day long and still smells like a salty tide pool at the end of the day. Nice. REALLY reminds me of something though. Will have to figure that out. I’ve smelled this before. Second try: dries down much more as a dark woody scent, still salty, but more almost oud-y. Still great but less salty sea.

Holiday on a Saltburn beach summed up in a bottle. I have been to Saltburn several times while wearing this scent. This is a grown up salty seaside version of WIDOMH with no ice cream or suntan lotion. Saltburn seaside misty salty dampness. Instant love from me @Sarah McCartney!

I'm getting smoky calone up front, with a sweet woody aftertaste (aftersmell?). Quite nice! But I'm not sure I want to smell like it.

A nice marine. Seaweed tang with a bit of sweetness.
