Wash Me In The Water

This is gorgeous! And I don't think there is anything else on the market quite like it. It's the way that the neroli and green notes are followed by incense, like having a cool shower when you're feeling grubby and then going to church. I'm not in the slightest bit religious but appreciate going into the dim, cool quiet of a church and inhaling traces of the incense that has burned there over the years, which is the journey Wash Me in the Water takes you on. The fresher notes quietly dissipate, allowing the base notes to steal to the fore, so there's a gentle continuum from start to finish, all of it cleansing, soothing and healing. It doesn't project much, so it's an ideal perfume for the office or public transport, and it it isn't all that long-lasting on me, so I get to keep on enjoying it as I top up at intervals through the day - pure pleasure! P.S. Why doesn't the Fragrantica database include 4160 Tuesdays's Take Me to the River? Wash Me in the Water is the Sunday morning to Take Me to the River's Saturday night and it's an extraordinary perfume, like nothing else I have ever come across but in a radically different way to WMITW. Wash Me in the Water is a silk shirt. Take Me to the River is a battered leather jacket.Wash Me in the Water is Evian. Take Me to the River is whiskey, no rocks. You get the picture. Edit - P.P.S. The inclusion of mint really put me off this perfume until I was given a sample to try. From all the sniffing and sampling I've done over the years, I think mint must be a really difficult note for perfumers to handle. It can all too easily take over and you end up smelling of toothpaste. In Wash Me In The Water, I can't pick out the mint as a separate note; it contributes in a very subtle way to the green freshness. I have recently had the opportunity to try this on the morning after a heavy night and it was perfect. Then again, it's also perfect on days when you're feeling bright-eyed and perky. (I love this - can you tell?)

A perfume for a Zen monk. A watery herbal fragrance that also incorporates warming elements and musk. Straight out of the bottle it’s almost like a classic men’s cologne, but quickly the warmer notes rise to the surface of the watery and herbal top notes and it becomes something else entirely. Subtly spicy, Restrained, calming, and beautiful. Very classy. Intimate sillage and fairly short longevity. Unisex. If I owned a yoga studio where meditation was taught, I’d love to have this as our signature scent. Just wafting very subtly in the background. Or if I was a mediator for complex and difficult agreements, I’d pump this stuff in the room. Everyone would walk away calm and happy. This is beautiful.

I wore this at work today, in 27c heat, with patchy aircon. I was still getting wafts of it as I moved after 6-7hrs of wear, I think from what was on my clothes or hair rather than skin. Either way, a nice, clean and refreshing scent that was very welcome. Not sharp like marine aquatic scents often are but light and refreshing without being too strongly herbal, cottony, aromatic. Different enough to be interesting but not enough for it to be a risky choice for work. Similar vibes to saltburn driftwood from the same house but different enough that I could justify two small bottles of each rather than one large bottle of one.

This one surprised me. It doesn't feel "fresh" in the way I expected. It does have a kind of airy blend of aromatics, but it doesn't feel aquatic to me. It really warms on the skin, and it becomes really smooth and a little bit powdery. Nothing sharp about it. I've been struggling to find an aromatic herbal fragrance that didn't feel too much like essential oils, too strong or biting. This is just right.

Possibly the epitome of delicate, it's not fresh in a grassy way, it's not snappy and peppered... no it's watery, not marine, more like a creek. Running, fresh water. Slightly salted skin from the sun, washing your hair and hands with plucked wild sage and rosemary. Stepping wet feet onto wild mint. It's dusk, the sky is lavender and periwinkle, the world around you is washed in these shades.

I adore this. It is like a long cool drink of water on a hot day; a hug when you are a bit down. This is one of my favourite bedtime scents - just so relaxing. Not long lived sadly on my skin, but that's ok, I will continue to enjoy its fleeting beauty

Very very clean 'fresh laundry' sort of scent, 100% unisex, perfectly pleasant, quite 90s retro - reminiscent of a less citrusy CK One. Interestingly doesn't have any trace of the sweet slightly dusty DNA (I think of it as second-hand bookshop smell) a lot of the 4160 scents have, at least to my nose. Doesn't project much but lasts well enough. I like fresh clean scents and this one is undeniably very well done, but I think considering the difference in price point between this and say CK One or Cool Water, the fact that it does such a good job of being an under-the-radar non-specifically clean sort of smell isn't going to make me go for the full size. I'd rather save my money for their weirder scents, although I'd consider ordering it in their room fragrance blend.

Herbal aquatic. Hanging laundry to a clothesline in a meadow beneath the setting sun’s shine. The grass blows in the evening wind, carrying with it the sweet scents of an herb garden or maybe a tea tray. I smell tea, hay, and honey. The musky and citric notes of clean laundry float in the air, as soft woodsy notes emanate from the clothespins. Faint watery notes drip from freshly-doused cotton. Decidedly softer and sweeter as it wears, after a greener opening. Maybe that’s when the clothes are being reworn?

From official website: 'Rosemary and clary sage for your memory, frankincense to calm your soul (what's left of it), the smell of green grass meadows and wild water swimming in cooling fresh water, a drop of mint and a lightly floral clean new bar of soap aroma.' That just about sums it up. This falls into the skin-scent category, and a very nice one at that, but it's far too short lived for my liking. 'Temptation' (from the same brand) does an excellent job as a musk-skin scent.

This fragrance is not as light as some people are saying. It's very heavy on the tree resin. Incense headiness for the first 30 minutes to an hour. That definitely dries down to a beautiful musk. Aquatic not in the traditional fragrance context. But aquatic like the dry plants on the side of a riverbed. Extremely bright. Very clean. Like watering your herb garden in a freshly laundered t-shirt in the warm sun.

I smell resemblance of SL L’orpheline- similar woodiness with musty dusty pews in an old chapel, still visited but just slightly forgotten and half asleep in the centuries long dream. I’ve seen one like that in Northumberland, that is north of UK, off the beaten track, among old twisty oaks and nettles. Charm and Middle Ages, and this is how this smells 😊.

Watery herbal is not my jam at all, so this (free sample) was never going to be a winner for me. However, for what it’s worth, it was marine fresh and herbal, which made for a nicely relaxing scent. It lasted a fair while on me (a couple of hours) and the journey was pleasant. I can imagine enjoying this on someone else but it doesn’t match my personality, sadly.

A nice fresh slightly herbal marine scent. Turns musky in the drydown. Fresh without being citrusy.
