4711 Lilac Eau de Cologne

Evolving Lilacs... First Impression: Smells nice, but it's not realistic lilacs...I agree with other reviewers that this does not smell like real lilacs. The colour lilac, or soft purple soap maybe.... There's a prominent freesia & soapy sandalwood. To me it smells more similar to other 4711 scents like 4711 Magnolia with a musky-soapy-woody freesia and a licorice-leaning jasmine. Overtime something close to a cocoa-powdery tonka-bean comes forward. I wouldn't recommend this if you're looking for a realistic lilac scent. Performance is EDC level or maybe slightly better. Enjoy! Update 06/22/24: Ok, so there is some lilac there in the top notes, although this altogether wasn't what I was expecting for a lilac scent. Quite powdery, soapy, woody in the base in a way that reads close to tonka-bean. It's growing on me. Update 05/05/25: Wow! I don't know what happened in the bottle after more than a year, but this has turned into a beautiful sweet lilac. The musk has retreated and the lilac has popped forward in a realistic but intense way with sweetness underneath. Amazing. Love it.

This is good. To me it starts with a « purple » reinterpretation of Pleasure EL. Violet, lilac, lavender, very crispy and green, in an aromatic and floral explosion. Fresh. Maybe even a little bit bitter ? A bubbly vivid springtime bottled. But almost immediately you can feel the milky sandalwood, in a delicious contrast with the greenness. I’d swear there is some cashmere too, and the lasting power is rather long for a 4711. The complementary is great to wear right now in April. It’s not utterly complex, the original healthy cologne is not very far away, but it’s exactly what I was looking for.

At first i thought the smell was a bit off, that lasted for about 10 minutes. After those 10 minutes the scent evolved into something very pleasant. A realistic one, but not liliac, its a realistic violet scent, mixed with some powdery notes. Very sophisticated and soft. So if youre looking for a liliac scent, this will disappoint you, but if you like violets, you will love this.

I find myself reaching for this fragrance often. It is not obtrusive but lingers with a sweet fruity tang. I can't say this is a true Lilac but a fragrant mix of Peach and Bergamot, with an underlying Musk Rose. If you are looking for a true Lilac, this is not it but a very wearable perfume none the less.

I’m on a hunt for the perfect lilac, and while this is not it, I love this. Sweet, powdery, lilac-scented plasticky dolls head. I happen to love dolls head accords so this is a win for me.

The only problem I have with this cologne is the NAME. This does not give me lilac at all, not even a hint. Nor is it powdery. It is rather the opposite- this is actually what I wanted Clean Rain to smell like! It is a slightly green ”rain on a beautiful garden” kinda scent. This is very nice, it just has a very misleading name in my opinion, such a shame. Sidenote: the peach in this is VERY similar to the non-sweet white peach in 4711:s Aqua Colonia White Peach & Coriander, just without the coriander (thank goodness).

4711 Lilac Eau de Cologne, fresh fragrance, the opening notes are a joyful accord: citrus, floral, fruity with great balance and charm. The citrus notes of bergamot dance an unexpected minuet with the intense notes of freesia and a pleasant, timid, fruity note of peach. At the dry down the prevailing fragrance of lilac emerges, surrounded by lighter notes of rose and bolder notes of jasmine. The base becomes enveloping, reassuring, talc. An evolving fragrance that evokes reminiscences of other times, of great effect.

I didn't notice the name "Lilac" until writing this review, I tested it based on the purple label, thinking probably it's a violet cologne, and it was, a violet cologne...Not sure where the lilac name comes from but this is a nice musky, powdery vanilla-violet scent. It's a walk around the territory of Armani She, Prada Candy, Guerlain L'instant Magic etc. but with the 4711 cologne style both in terms of scent and performance.

I am not a floral fan but when I smelled this for the first time I was very impressed. As many people said it is not Lilacs, but more like Freesia or Violets. It is powdery, feminine and romantic. It ́s great as an every day scent.

I do get fresh and very feminine. It’s powdery, a bit green and on my skin it turns milky-sweet. It’s beautiful in a simple, pastel, girly kinda way. Affordable, so great for collectors .

This one is really nice, does not last to long but its projection feels pretty wide. Its worth as a blind buy without really thinking. Really solid.

The best out of the three new releases! Quite feminine and modern. I can't detect the 4711 DNA, but it's one of those uncomplicated colognes for day wear with a pump of Powder, more towards a violets scent, but still elegant. Longevity: 2-3 hours.

i had high hopes because i love 4711 classic and nouveau, and i am looking for a nice lilac and freesia fragrance. now i wear it on my wrist: heavy, voluminous, with the dna of the latest Acqua Colonia releases. noseeating. i get headache and the scent won't disappear... help! should i dare the other two? edit : second try on paper still no 4711 original Echt Köllnisch Wasser dna to find. but there is a lovely heavy warm vanillic lilac in the first 10minutes. After that opening, it is as described above.

I hate to say it, but it really smells like play-dough to me, the sort that dries out if you don't keep it in a sealed container

It's not true lilac, the mixture smells a bit strange, medicinal. Not fresh. Comes on very strongly the first 15 minutes, dissipates quickly, after 90 minutes I can barely smell it, thank goodness. 3/10.

I got this today, and find that I enjoy it a lot. The first 10 or so minutes smell strange, like a real flower that I just can't place. I used to go for long walks and pick up fallen flowers to dry out and decorate my room with. It smells like one of those that I used to see all the time. After it dries down... I still don't know. It's lilac adjacent, but not starring lilac to the point where you could name it after the flower. Powdery, "purple", true floral. As I said above, I do enjoy it. It's delightful, and not something you commonly smell on people. It's not strong in how it projects, but I am finding it lasts quite a while. Not as strong as Lily of the Valley from the same collection, but stronger than the Jasmine release. I'd say it's probably the best in the Floral series. Edit: I agree with suzanne_ronald. There's a faint licorice/jasmine accord there.

Powdery, incredibly feminine and dreamy. At the initial burst it envelopes you in fresh bright florals which develops into a powdery soft creamy and woody skin scent. Very comforting, addictive. It stays well and I can still smell it on my clothes the next day. Reminds me of those classic beauty scents of fancy soaps, vintage face creams and body powders. Pressed flowers and potpourri. The woodsy undertones create an unexpected dreamy quality. It's my new favourite and can't stop spraying it, plus it's such a cheapy I don't feel bad about over spraying. I've almost gone through the Rose in this line, but this one is a lot longer lasting at about 4 to 5 hours and a lot more intense though I wouldn't call it overpowering. I would definitely be getting this again after I've used it up.

very feminine and unusual interpretation of lilac, i am used to the fresh-green more natural versions, but i really enjoy this creamy and sweet one. a little bit similar concept as Amouage Lilac Love

Does not smell of lilac at all. I'm glad I tried those mini bottles first. I'm a bit discouraged to try the rest of the set now.

Unfortunately not a true lilac scent. Pleasant to use as a room spray while I continue my hunt for a true lilac scent.
