Shakespeare in Love

Lovely lovely beautiful gorgeous rose!!!!

The rose in this fragrance reminds me so much of the rose in Elizabeth Arden's True Love - there's a powdery, makeup smell to the fragrance as a whole. It's classic, romantic. I smell the pear and the rose in equal amounts at first, then the powder factor grows in prominence. I am going to guess that it's the vanilla combining with the rose and pear even though I don't recognize the note as actual vanilla. I had to have this perfume because of the name (I adore anything Shakespeare) and the bottle... The fragrance is nice, but I like other offerings from A Dozen Roses much better.

This brought to mind a gummy bear rose. It starts off very sweet, yet more rose then fruit. The drydown is a soft, still sweet but no longer candy, bouquet of roses. This is young and innocent, fresh roses and sunshine. The longevity is amazing, 10+ hours and I can still smell traces of it on my wrist. The sillage is good, a couple feet for the first few hours. Not a loud fragrance but present. In my 40's, this is a bit too young for me. Still, it's a pretty, happy scent. Juliet before the tragedy.

Thanks to a traveling box I was able to give this one a try. The company seems to be out of business, and the bottles are fairly expensive, so it's unlikely I'll ever purchase this. In any case, SiL has a lovely fresh rose note, free of dusty potpourrie hints. There are hints of sweet fruits, a bit of citrus, too, the perfume changes rapidly on my skin. Sillage and lasting power are modest, I have to reapply it often. All things considered, SiL is beautiful but has serious flaws.

This is a very soft, light rose. On the drydown I smell jasmine which is reminding me of Alien. Lasting power is really short on me, maybe only two hours. It smells similar to the mini roses growing in my yard, light yet noticeably a rose.
