Almost Transparent Blue

Opens with a bright, effervescent blast of Lime and Yuzu. This one sizzles along the top, buzzing at a high frequency and leaving a trail of fresh candied citrus in its wake. It is completely uplifting and bright, almost crystalline in its clarity and overall effect. If you look hard enough you can find something reminiscent of an ‘ink’ note within the composition, but had it never been mentioned in the ad copy, I don’t think I would have noticed it. When I apply ATB I’m immediately reminded of shooting stars and Fourth of July sparklers, burning with bright tenacity in a pale, blueish white light before suddenly fading into the void. Almost Transparent Blue lasts about four hours--the first two a dazzlingly fresh expression of lime and yuzu, and the last 2 hours a quiet, sweeter conclusion of white musk and soft woods, leaving just a trace of what came before. I find this very addictive. Housed in A Lab On Fire’s standard 60 ml bottle, both clinical and futuristic in appearance, ATB has an excellent atomizer that sprays generously and disperses the fragrance well. Projection is moderate, longevity on the short side. This is a fragrance best suited for spring and summer or perhaps right out of the shower during the colder months. It is casual and appropriate for daily wear or any time that you want to put something on to refresh yourself. Two thumbs all the way up. For citrus fans and lovers of all things fresh, this is a must try.

Just did a review where the marketing hype didn't live up to the promise. ( Shay & Blue Framboise Noir and Kings Wood). THIS HOWEVER DOES! Peaceful, serene - not in your face but always pleasant. A summer refresher after the shower or beach or whilst sitting on the porch after a long day ala Cool Water or Aqua Di Parma Colonia Club. Reminds me succinctly of Lime Cordial watered down - though thats green! Very airy, light but well made so a subtle but long lasting scent. The musk and cedar combine to create an unusual effervesence or sparkle that I have not experienced before. Not designed to blow others around you away - just transport you when your mood needs it - having said that it is unusually linear on me for many hours and I often get a waft to the nose even whilst seated. My only issue is the price as this is for me novelty territory and realistically there are others such as Cool Water and ADP CC that give me the same feel (but not smell) - having said that its just unusually quirky enough for me to keep a bottle amongst them. Still - great intro to A Lab on Fire so it looks like I'll be trying more! Happy Smelling!

This is my first time trying a yuzu & hinoki mix.I love the scent and it reminds me of a mixture of Turkish and Finnish baths.The herbal aroma is so so good.There are too many citrus smells around and I really do not like many of them except jean claude elena's special mixes.Many of the citruses when mixed with neroli turns out to be traditional Turkish kolonya which in the past we used to pour to the hands of guests to welcome them.Because of that, Turkish people are very familiar with citrus smells which are like cheap kolonya.A good example is john varvatos citrus smells which are cheap kolanya. But this one is really beautiful and not like any cheap kolonya.This is elegant and very masculine.

Sparkling but peaceful,urban and trendy. This scent whispers changes,is a positive parfum... the notes of yuzu and lime are amazing. After the sun and crisp opening, in the drydown it softens in a beautiful and pleasant feeling of clean and serenity, with a light "aquatic" undertone. It is ideal for summer... it is very beautiful! Sillage: 7./10 Longevity: 8./10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10

Changed this to a love... Frozen pepper, ice cubes and blue slushee turns into cool sweet musk... Extremely refreshing - one of a select few products that truly embody refreshing uplifts for summer such as Montale Aqua Gold or Marine Fougere, Cool Water, Aqua Di Gio Profumo or Gendarme EDP. Very unique and striking performance.

With so many citrus scents out there, it's hard to find one that really stands out from the rest. I have several in my collection and they're all great for Spring and Summer, but none have wow'd me until now. Transparent Blue is unique, both citrusy and fresh, but then, it slowly becomes warm and inviting. It also manages to have a slightly clean, cool, almost metallic-ness to it, that makes it very modern as well. If you like citrus and wood scents, but want something different than the usual Eau De Cologne old world offerings, or you desire something more sophisticated and cosmopolitan than the usual commercial brands, sample this and give it a try. I made a joke about Givenchy "Pi Neo"in my review of it, that Neo from the Matrix wouldn't wear that fragrance, but if I had to recommend one to him, then Lab on Fire "Transparent Blue" would be the one I'd suggest.

It could have been a beautiful perfume—a pop and sizzle of yuzu and aldehydes, grounded by hinoki and herbal thyme. It’s all there, sort of, but what it amounts to is more of “Another Designer Blue.” The whole thing teeters a little too closely to generic duty free, when I was hoping for Japanese-inspired spa tranquility. The aldehydes admittedly do a great job here: they radiate out from all sides, and feel alive and captivating without being overwhelming. But the citrus lacks the acetic punch of yuzu, and I don’t get much, or any, woods or herbs besides an occasional earthiness set against an otherwise nondescript fresh, clean, and vaguely ozonic sky-hued backdrop. I’ve revisited this sample many times over the last two years, always hoping to find something I’m missing. Unfortunately, this perfume just doesn’t have a lot to say.

Wearing this one today. It's a great fresh citrus smell with a slight background of very light aromatic/spice. This comes out a bit more in the dry down as the citrus fades away. This is a very safe scent and a natural to wear in warm weather. It smells quite similar to D&G Light Blue while also maintaining some more complexity and a lack of the linearity that most designer scents tend to have. I'm on the fence about this being full-bottle worthy. It's a enjoyable fresh scent that is very safe to wear, but its similarity to D&G Light Blue makes me think twice. Unless money is no object, there is always a trade-off, and I would tend to spend on something that is less likely to have an alternative available. 7.5/10

From the reviews on here, this one seems to be getting a lot of hate, but I REALLY enjoy it! It's a crisp citrus that leans masculine. The opening and mid remind me quite a bit of D&G Light Blue Italian Love pour homme/ D&G Light Blue Forever (both I love), but this one smells slightly less synthetic than the D&Gs. The yuzu combined with the hinoki give this a slight creaminess, which cuts back on any sharpness from the citrus. Performance is really great- lasts nearly the full day on me. This would be great for summer, or lifting your spirits in the dead of winter. Glad I tried this!

buysblind nailed it! I just wanna say this is probably my favorite scent with the name blue in its name. I also layered this with Cedrat Everat and it smells like a blueberry slurpee with gin!!! WEEEE!!

The aldehydes in this hit me like a train. I sneeze every time I try on this sample. This reminds me of the Calvin Klein perfume all the boys wore in the 90s; I get frosted tips, wraparound sunglasses and exposed boxers above sweatpants. But on a hot guy. That's the visual this perfume gives me when I first apply it to my skin. The dry down is far more appealing. The yuzu and musk are more apparent after 10 minutes, and the aldehydes take a back seat (thankfully) I was really hoping to get more of a citrusy-green-thyme scent from this, but it feels more like a typical cologne sample torn out of a magazine. :/ I think I would love it on my boyfriend, and I'm not rushing to try it on myself again.

It started off beautifully and I fell in love with the soft and sweet citrus scent. Then it turned into stale musty scent and I was turned off by it. I could have been a love but only for that long lingering musty scent.

This is an unnecessary perfume. This scent profile has been done a thousand times already, many times for less than half the price and many times better than this. Very unoriginal and with a terrible performance. No projection whatsoever and then it disappears (even on clothes) within 2 hours.

Extremely dissapointed.The name is so beautiful, but the scent is quite generic.

What an appropriate name... fits perfectly. Aldehyde's are the main note in this, the fresh grapefruit/yuzu is really beautiful of all the citruses out there this one stands out as it's not immediate what's going on. Reminds me of lemonade ice lollies and nothing is more refreshing than that. It has a strange watery quality, again with reference to the name which doesn't come off as deliberately aquatic. All in all this is a strange fish. This lab on fire lot love their Hinoki wood huh? Kinda equates to a clean cedar/fir/pine vibe to my nose but again the way it's incorporated into this scent is clever. Anyway... what lets it down is that it was 'almost transparent...' on my skin after a hell of an opening it dies a death remarkably quickly. I like the quirky fun branding and bottles from this house just wish this juice gave off more of an air of quality. I did only use a tiny amount so another wear is definitely necessary. If you like Aldehydic, fresh, light, citrus fragrances and thought you'd smelled everything this will give you something to think about. I reserve final judgement. Update: Upon my second wearing I was really taken with the bright opening of yuzu which has a real Mandarin quality I didn't get so much on the first wear. This is like a classier more subtle version of Clinique Happy which really energizes. It has a slight juniper feel to it as well but really it's straight up citrus/aldehydes and fresh cedar for me. I wore a lot this time and the longevity is okay but not great it's a clean fragrance for summer and if you're prepared to spend the money I'd go for it. Not for me though.

If you have some random, extreme fondness for lime in perfume, you'd be wise to give this one a shot. Almost Transparent Blue opens with a soapy, citrus blast reminiscent of squeezing a fresh lime into a Corona bottle. The citrus soon subsides and is followed by aldehydes and clean woods, creating an almost sterile, indoors type of atmosphere. It's slightly unique, but the pretentious description of futuristic, Battlestar Galactica esque, urban landscapes is quite the stretch. Personally I don't think the average Joe would be able to decipher this from your typical, run of the mill aquatic. Undeniably of quality, but ultimately underwhelming.

Almost Transparent Blue is my favorite A Lab on Fire fragrance. I love citrus fragrances and this one opens with very aromatic & delicious yuzu mixed with green, herbal and woody notes. Its bright and fresh thanks to aldehydes - perfect for summer. Unfortunately the fragrance disappears very quickly, doesn't have lasting power at all.

Cool airy citrus. Modern cologne style citrus, not photorealistic. This is what light blue could have been if D&G didn’t make it. Smells like the cool air you’d bathe in while skydiving. Clean, smooth, and unisex, though contrary to popular opinion this leans a touch too feminine for me.

An excellent kitchen cleaner detergent technical perfume - lovely aldehydic as well. Came across it while looking for an ersatz for Soda and very glad I came across this - together with the latter, Eau de Rochas Homme, Chanel's Eau de Cologne, a citric favourite!
