Out In The Open

probably my favorite floral perfume. I get a sample a few months ago and finally had to go for the bottle. It is a yellow floral (mimosa and broom that at times produces an effect that reminds me of some perfumes based on ylang ylang) and white flowers, especially at the top, which are combined with sweet notes on an animalistic bed of beeswax, leather and civet. For me a masterpiece by Miguel Matos. The intense violet color of the fragrance (care that stains clothes) is already a prelude to what we are going to find. One of the thickest and most concentrated perfumes I know (reminds me a bit of Francesca Bianchi or Baruti style) that lasts forever and projects fantastically for hours. I see it totally versatile since, despite its power, which makes it ideal for the night and to be used in cold climates; Its floral and fun character makes it perfectly wearable for me with heat (I have used it during the day here in the Canary Islands and it works very well) and for daytime use. Of course, due to its intensity, I don't know if it is the best option if you work with people nearby who may be sensitive to powerful odors. Summarizing a 10/10 in all aspects and in the top 10 of my favorite fragrances of all time. I sincerely believe that the Calaj house is one of the best niche firms that exist today and in my opinion it is placing Romania at the top of world perfume production. This stunner absolutely floored me. Very few perfumes have my eyes rolling up in the back of my head in ecstasy, but this is one of them. I can't expand on all the praise other reviewers already gave, though my experience most closely aligns with those who are in love with this too. I also find it intoxicating. A luscious blend of leather, beeswax, spices, and narcotic florals on an animalic base. Almost has a resinous quality from the beeswax but is airy too. It wears so beautifully giving hours and hours and hours of pure pleasure. There is something about the clear quality of this that makes me think of the great vintage fragrances of the past, though it is thoroughly modern and not dated at all. It certainly behaves like a vintage, as very little is needed to be beautifully perfumed all day. But it is an extrait after all, so be aware of that, as this one needs a light touch. And, as others have noted, be careful as this is a very dark fragrance that will stain clothes, so it should be applied and allowed to dry well before getting dressed. Though it is a little on the pricey side, it is worth every penny for this truly one-of-a-kind creation and work of art, but more importantly for how it makes me feel and all the pleasure that it brings. But don't take my word for it. Get a sample and find out for yourself.

There you are, just the way you are. This perfume successfully conveys being "out in the open", as far as authenticity and standing before the world. How? By allowing its ingredients to exist as they are--both pleasant and unpleasant facets still intact. Yes, sometimes gardenias smell like sweaty feet. Sometimes honey smells like urine. Sometimes orange blossoms and apples can smell like sweet decay. Those facets have been left to shine, and have not been neutered to make this perfume socially acceptable, and yet this scent is utterly wearable, elegant, warm, and lovely. Everything combines to make a singular, distinctive, and beautiful scent. It is bodily-smelling, floral, and big, like the way perfumes used to be. Most importantly, it smells human. It's difficult to detect any individual notes, but I'd say I can imagine dusty pollen on bees' legs from yellow flowers, hot hair on the top of a woman's head warmed by the sun, crisp honeycombs, buttery sandalwood, and a waxy gardenia petal. The sample vial of Out in the Open is a dark, murky purple potion that looks like a blood sample taken from flowers. This is funny to me because the overall impression I get from this fragrance is gold. Enveloping goldness like the glow of acceptance.

Fleshy, balmy, powdery, musky, sunny, golden, and pollen-y all at once, like a stroll through a prairie in full bloom. The florals here blend beautifully into a honeyed, almost marshmallowy cloud reminiscent of both exuberant 80s florals like Giorgio and sultry 40s scents like Corday’s Fame. The dry, leather-sandalwood spine adds balance and keeps things relatively unisex. Can a big, opulent white-yellow floral still be light and airy in contemporary perfumery? Apparently so!

I get the similarity to Lush Lust but once this calms down, it is more rounded and floral. Extremely strong - 1 spray on my wrist was enough to fill the room! Good job as it only comes in 30ml bottles. Certainly not a scent for the faint hearted and not for the office. If you are in the US, I think Lucky Scent has samples, but not here in the UK, so I blind bought & had it shipped from Romania. Don’t regret it - a very unique scent to add to my collection.

This one is for sure a “must have” for anyone who’s into fragrances. This smells so unique and daring and for me was like a time machine to my childhood, my room with a massive wooden cabinet and fresh clothes. I can’t find similarities with another fragrance, but if you like daring, bold and unique fragrances like Zoologist/ Areej le Dore this one is for you. I absolutely love this quirky fragrance! It’s a blast of heady spring in a bottle with a mysterious under note to give it a bit of an edge. Syrupy yet spicy, a bit of leather, a dark wash of herbaceous florals, it’s all happening. I’d like to also point out that this company’s customer service is second to none - if only others possessed the same integrity and commitment to customers. Definitely one to try and a brand to watch.

very intense, very mysterious, very dark, one of the most outstanding unique perfumes, the sillage I think is high (I can smell it intensely) but my partner says he has to get close to me to smell it, my partner and I like to mix this perfume with Vicki Lin - TSVGA (what a great mixture) ... more outdoorsy, perfect for a cold night as it warms you up :P

A13 Perfume smells wonderful. I can't say enough nice things about it. It is one of the most unusual fragrances i've ever smelled.Perfumer Miguel Matos, this is a winner. My nose does not seem to smell the white florals that so many other commenters have spoken about. Keep up the great work.Thank you.

The definition of grande dame. The 80s are back. Probably a masterpiece.

I got a decant of this on scentsplit. I knew the juice was going to be dark, I have perfumes with dark juice but nothing like this. It is the color of port wine. With that being said I do like this but I can see where it could be off putting for some. It is extremely animalic. And the saffron is very strong, much stronger than I expected, and it comes off like cinnamon as well. How it comingles with the heavy apple note gives me the impression of apple pie. Apple pie combined with heavy indolic white and yellow flowers. The orris root gives this a powdery feminine scent and when combined with such heavy white and yellow flowers and strong spices it has a very vintage feel, but it is a lot sweeter than many vintage fragrances. I suspect that comes from the heavy fruits and huge beeswax here. The beeswax makes this fragrance come off like a fragrant dessert wine. Apple, honey, floral wine. This fragrance reminds me of something Gather perfume would do. Extremely concentrated, dense, rich but quirky as well. Unlike most anything else on the market today. Quite Bohemian. Unique. Quirky and delightfully different. Edit as this dries down it becomes very floral w/ a heavy leather accord mingling w/ spices. I think there are more spices in this than just saffron. It becomes a very wet floral of spring in the dry down, the flowers smell like they have been through a rain shower. And there is that after the rain smell in the air as well. I could kind of compare this to Annick Goutal Grand Amour but the flowers here are much sweeter because of the beeswax. My husband HATES this perfume with a purple passion so I may be giving my decant away. I have a good friend here I know I could sent it to and she would take it in a heartbeat. The juice is super dark, be very careful about staining your clothes. Edit again the more I smell this perfume it reminds me of the smell of leather stains. My mother was a leather craftsman and I grew up with those smells. This perfume has a very nice leather accord. Brilliant actually. It is a shame I can't wear this. My husband hates this so much. I will be sending this off to a good friend I met here to enjoy. If you like real leather, combined with feminine spring indolic flowers heavy thick beeswax and warm spices give this a try.

What a unique and special fragrance from its gorgeous plum color to its indolic sweet floral scent. Nice longevity. Great for summer. Hard to find. Not inexpensive but if you love this kind of fragrance worth the search and sample.

An interesting scent — maybe like the extracted essence of dark fragrances, like Black Afgano, a warm little bundle of something rather original. It reminded me of basement hangouts and something very familiar. It’s good, but I don’t feel the need to wear it.

Yikes, this is definitely gardenia forward, but it is just a kitchen sink without theme. It is soo rookie of a fragrance i am surprised that it was even released. I have a set of materials and try various blends as well, and at one point i tried gardenia and came to a similar result as this "Out in the open" albeit it was brighter and had green and honeyed tone to it, but i quickly disposed of it, because it was soooo rookie. Little did i know then that i was "a perfumer" thats on the same level as Miguel..... Dont blind buy it, test first. Todays society that praises any effort without scrutinizing the product first is bound to have a very bad ending.

I pick up the sample, look at it and think: wow what a beauty! Inside a thick liquid of dark purple color like the peel of a plum. It often happens that I fall in love with a perfume a priori, already from the color of the jus, like those who choose to buy a book based on the cover. With perfume, however, everything is faster and it takes little to understand whether or not it can meet my tastes. I spray it on my wrist and again ... WOW, but also a "luckily I didn't put it on my clothes". The wrist is literally painted in the same color as the jus. A bomb definitely not to be worn on clothing that is not black! As soon as it touches the skin, a strong smell of mothballs is released that takes me back many years and makes me smile. Then finally it comes out, out in the open, and I am enveloped in a breath of white and yellow flowers. I perceive an explosion of mimosa, orange blossom, gardenia and jasmine; a very indolic floral bouquet. Then comes the green apple, which I can bear well in this composition although I'm not a lover of it. The ambrette seeds immediately add a musky touch that is strengthened immediately afterwards with the civet, which gives that retro animalic vibe that I love so much in the fragrances. Everything is linked to a leather accord with a splendid beeswax. The feeling in the drydown is a perfect mix of flowers, animal moss, leather and really beautiful wax. The different notes are distinguished although these are linked together in perfect harmony. There is also a scent similar to Marseille soap mixed with mothballs to act as a base for the perfume that does not clash at all but on the contrary, makes it even more pleasant. Clean laundry in the middle of a garden full of flowers. Failed at home but passed with full marks by myself to the point of ending up in the wishlist. Incredible performance with just a sprinkle. One of the most beautiful perfumes I've tried lately.

I got a sample , I like the color of the liquid , that dark purple is everything...the mix is unique, intense , like a mysterious white flower, poisonous but tempting. This perfume would be for an experienced witch or magician. Even tough it’s not captivating for me. I don’t like that it has that soapy-laundry-animalic accord which could be harsh for using it at the office or in crowed places. It is a white floral mature perfume, perfect to use it in the evening and midnight. I wouldn’t recommend it for a date, neither for a night club. This perfume is not about being elegant and discrete , instead , it is about the complete freedom to express your feminine energy to the edge and then see what happens next...

I discovered Out in the open last summer and it was love at first “sniff”. Initially it has a very particular smell, similar to mothballs, and I say this with a smile because it brings back pleasant memories. Then it finally comes out, “out in the open”, and I am enveloped in a breath of white and yellow flowers. I perceive an explosion of mimosa, orange blossom, gardenia and jasmine; a very indolic floral bouquet. I think it shines when it's warm outside, maybe in late spring or early summer.

Glad to be the first reviewer, as this perfume made a great impact on me. I've been dreaming and fantasizing about such a perfume for a long time. Seems that all the heady white flowers of the world conversed in this perfume to give the most extatic, narcotic experience. It's very strong on the orange flower, so a slight naphtalene feel to it, but so intoxicating and addictive. Glad niche isnt dead. Go easy on the trigger as it feels up a room immediately and can offend people.

For my nose, is the queen of gardenias. It is like an atomic explosion of flowers, very dense, intoxicating, voluptuous, sexy and intriguing. It's a ballroom with dusty velvet drapes wrapped with golden cords. It is the star of the opera, singing her last aria before the curtains fall. Although it is mostly flowers, it is very animalic and strong, and that makes it perfect for colder days. It definitely requires a strong personality to wear it and tame it.

Mega-indolic jasmine, very similar to that in Lush Lust, which is rounded by leather and buttery florals.
