Carbon

I haven't yet used this to layer/help with projection, so this is a review of the scent itself: this is one of the most versatile scents i own. it is exactly as described: a musky, sweet, and light floral fragrance. it has a moderate projection and sillage and is sparkling & radiant. I get a lot of ambergris/ambroxan, iso e super, vanilla, amber, and heliotropin, along with a background of those white floral notes. I love heliotrope, so i'm really happy it comes through in this. this is truly an all seasons scent - good for everyday and very inoffensive but still a bit sexy. can't wait to experiment with layering!

My first bottle from ATH, it’s a very pleasant scent and I’m happy that I decided to get the 50ml bottle- it’s one of my most fortunate blind buys. It reminds me of bubble gum but in a positive way, I mainly use it for layering but it also works fine on it’s own when I’m in a good mood and want to wear something to match it.

Great fragrance, well worth the price. Pretty unisex, but as a male I feel like this works well on me. I mostly get the musk, white flowers, skin accord and a hint of vanilla. Performs brilliantly. Not tried using it for layering yet, but it doesn't need to be used for that because it's a fantastic standalone fragrance.

Blind buy. First ATH product that I have purchased. Initially bought it for layering purposes. I love it on its own. Fresh, crisp and slightly sweet. It's long-lasting and versatile. Upon putting it on, i can not stop smelling myself. Original smell. Great product. Looking forward to getting more ATH products.

Carbon is a lovely everyday scent. Clean, light, airy, inoffensive. White floral and vanilla, very calm and airy. Good sillage and longetivity, more than 8 hours on my skin. Aaron says he made this to layer and enhance other fragrances, which does work, but for me it is a great standalone fragrance by itself

Carbon is a sweet, beautiful musky/floral - and the body lotion smells identical to the parfum. 5/5 fragrance that's super easy to wear any time, any place, especially when you're in the mood for a light profile and not in the mood for any overwhelming fragrance.

ok this review might not sit well with everyone, but it reminds me of the scent aura you get after spending the night with a woman. Smells great tho lol

The opening is a strong combination of musk, citrus and a huge bouquet of flowers. The dry-down is more musk-heavy and it smells like you're just smelling a clean skin that has lotions/creams applied to it. I think this is really feminine, but a man could still pull it off. I imagine this is not a great projector and more of a skin scent, but it's a nice casual/everyday/office fragrance. Very safe and inoffensive. Nothing to dislike, but nothing to rave about either. 8/10

Beach musk. Accurate note breakdown 👆. Clean, with a feminine lean. Smells good. Fresh laundry. Powdery, harmonious blend. Not particularly nuanced, but a complex, linear scent that develops quickly. Balanced and on point. The scent overall is somewhere between a 🙂 and 😍.

So I did a layering test with LNDLH 2022, first off yes it projects and yes it lasts. It did change the fragrance a bit though. I did 2 sprays of carbon and 4 sprays of 2022, 2022 became a bit more sweeter, kinda took the spicy edge off the opening, reminded me of LNDLH 2013, where the opening was more well rounded. Not sure on how long you’ll be projecting, I fell asleep, but when I woke up I was still catching whiffs of LNDLH. Carbon has a very neutral scent, it opens with bergamot, but the base smells kinda floral, like Hedione, but I can barely smell it. It’s not till later in the day that I’ll start catching whiffs of something that isn’t my layered fragrance, something like clean clothes. Not too sure on the value of this fragrance. Gonna do more field tests with this, might update if my opinion changes. EDIT: it smells like mostly hedione, white musks and sweeteners. I believe there is heliotropin as there is an almondy quality, not strong like benzaldehyde, but its there. While layered, the fragrance is pretty neutral. It does ad a sweetness and maybe a touch of white floral, but wearing it by itself, I find it unbearable. It’s got a almondy type smell, like almond extract you use for baking, almost bubblegummy, fake candy-like and medicinal. Will I buy another bottle? Probably not. There are a lot of other “booster” type fragrances to try out, and personally, I feel as if it’s just a fad that will come to pass. You can probably make your own booster with high cis hedione, iso e super, ethylene brassylate, Benzyl salicylate etc for a fraction of the price.

Blind bought the 50ml! This is my first and only experience with ATH. This lasts foreverrrr on the skin. After 24 hours and multiple showers, I can still pick up remnants if I dig my nose deep enough into the same spot. The scent itself is pretty much an overdose of a clean-smelling musk. I'll get the occasional hint of something smelling like baby powder, but it's far from the main player here. There's no question about the level of effort and quality put into this. My results of layering Carbon are mixed. One of my home runs with this was Tuxedo—it turned into a beast for me. But I've tried some others that sadly just got overpowered. It's been about 50/50 for me. My favourite use for Carbon is in the gym, either standalone or layered with a freshie. No matter how grimy I get, this keeps me feeling fresh during and after my workout every single time. I'm happy I got to try one of Aaron's creations, and I can now gladly speak to my level of respect for him as a perfumer.

So about a year later after purchase, the ylang note has toned down a lot making this a great Stand alone fragrance. I couldn’t stand the ylang at first but now it’s mellowed out a lot. Long lasting great clean floaty musk scent. Also it’s a great fixative and booster.

Powder + white florals + BHT + synthetic musk

A very interesting idea and executed well, actually smells nice on its own to be honest which is the point, yes you could throw together a poorly blended layering booster formula yourself for the fraction of the cost but would it double up as a stand alone scent that actually smells well crafted? Unlikely When I first brought this in late 2022 I experimented with it, the results were almost always the opposite to what I predicted with the scents I chose, for exsample I paired it with Luna rossa carbon because let us be honest the overall performance is lack-luster at best, in my head this was a winning combo, clean layered on clean, Carbon on Carbon what can go wrong? But... Nope, the result was by layering ATH Carbon first was that Prada's Luna rossa carbon was overpowered by the smell of ATH Carbon and the blend was a little sour together, did it last longer? yes, did it project more? a little, did it smell good? Hmmm not really. However, layering it with Man In Black was another prediction I was wrong about Clean under boozy'n spicy = no thanks.. right? WRONG! the influence of ATH Carbon on the fragrance profile was minimal (maybe it influenced it to be slightly smoother and rounded) but... OH MY... did Man In Black project, it turned as you say "beast mode" for the first hour and was projecting strong for a couple of more hours after that and the longevity was improved, which is lets be honest impressive as Man In Black suffers from projection issues if nothing else, yes Man In Black smells amazing but unless you're spraying it on minutes before you're meeting up with other people no-one will notice it unless they hug you and if you are like me you don't really want to hug everyone you ever meet to just get a freakin' compliment! Not that compliments are everything but it is nice when someone recognizes how good you smell. When layering Man In Black with ATH Carbon for the first time since owning Man In Black I was getting compliments from strangers... because, yeah they can smell it without getting uncomfortably close, finally other people get to enjoy how good Man In Black smells. If you're still reading this well done by the way and to reward you for your patience I will also pass on some "tried and proven" wisdom from my experiments... So here are my tips for ATH Carbon (and more..?) First of all I noticed ATH Carbon works better as its primary purpose with spicy scents as a general rule, but again not always.. yeah I know, confusing right? So that brings me on to the next thing I learned, this works better with EdP concerntration overall, which seems to defeat the point right? Yeah I guess However this is my best tip if you do have a more diluted fragrance try sandwiching ATH Carbon between the fragrance of which you want to improve its overall performance without changing its profile to much, so what I mean is spray a skin area with your choice of fragrance once then whilst it is still wet spray ATH Carbon ontop, then after half a minute spray those areas with a second spray of your same chosen fragrance ontop of that! And... Voilé! Not only does ATH Carbon do what it is advertised to do even BETTER, it changes the scent profile of your favourite weak performing fragrances far less. This tip also works when using M01 and M02 with other fragrances! (you're welcome) The improvement of sandwhiching these 3 booster fragrances like this can't be overstated, try this out for yourself and you may then think it was worth reading this obnoxious WALL of text... Conclusion: As its own stand alone fragrance its very well blended and has a natural smelling profile: Clean, round, sweet, semi-transparent and musky, not the sort of scent I would normally pick, but it is nice 7.5/10 which is down to my taste more than anything, quality is 9/10. As purely a performance booster honestly it is hit and miss depending on what you use it with, so I can't really score it out of 10. I would say this much, try a decant first, if you really like or love the smell of this on its own and it helps improve at least 1 or 2 of your favourite smelling fragrances that lack performance then I think go for it, buy the 50ml. However if you just want a fragrance performance booster I would recommend the Carbon Lotion over the fragrance. The End

To the people who are saying this became a skin scent quickly, or they could hardly smell anything at all: Did you notice this is supposed to be used like a Molecule style fragrance where you are trying to increase performance? If so, what did you layer with it, and did it work? Seems not a single review here mentions the layering aspect?

I love this , it’s just clean and relaxing I give the scent 9/10 no problem but sadly it did not last to long on my skin. I might still buy a full bottle and over spray and try spraying on clothing. Aaron says this is for layering and boosting other scents but I just love this alone.

I literally can't smell anything. Ordered new from Maxaroma so its not a fake or anything, but on spray all i get is like a vodka / perfumers alcohol note - then it just smells like air :( Will update if this changes

This is good, but to me it just smells like a lightly scented moisturizer, like I had just applied moisturizer to my face/body and am catching wafts of it. it's a musky vanilla white floral skin scent.

i love it... but.. i wish to be stronger and more projecting... i have the lotion and the parfume.. maybe, Aaron will make a carbon elixir in the future.. and a shower gel... just love it!

I can only speak for the scented lotion which smells like a carbon ✏️ pencil and clean baby skin. I appreciate it's non intrusive fragrance and good moisturizing properties. ✨
