Chinotto Gourmand

This was a blind buy at a niche perfumery. I hadn't experimented much with gourmands, mostly reaching for smoke or fire in the colder months. The closest I'd really gone to gourmand was Atelier Cologne's Vanille Inscensé - which remains the only true vanilla I wear. For some reason this struck me as so joyful, like the AC Vanille, there's a citrus note that brightens the caramel and vanilla - preventing it from turning that sickly sweet most gourmands suffer from. I don't think I would've gotten this were it not on sale and such a small bottle, but it's been a go-to this winter and opened the doors to playing with more gourmand and warm, sugary scents after years of being jaded by vanilla body sprays and other cheap sweet scents. Chinotto opens with an almost boozy amaretto and dries down to a luxurious almond caramel popcorn and candied orange peel, there are whispers of woody, white floral - almost powdery which mature the fragrance and provide dimension. It's long lasting, about 8hrs, with arms-length projection. Doesn't transform much, but the caramel and woodiness sticks around longest.

Purfumesniffer does a great job describing Chinotto Gourmand; starts off as a powdery floral soap-like scent (probably due to the addition of orange blossom), on top of a bread-like gourmand treat. It’s similar to Jeau de Peau in structure, another perfume I own and love, but Chinotto has the bitter orange note, making it a wonderfully unique perfume. I have never heard of the brand Abaton, and had never known about the small bitter Chinotto orange. And I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon, this is lovely. My friend just bought this yesterday and gave me a sample, so I’m wearing Chinotto Gourmand for the first time today. Impressive performance considering this perfume is an EDT. Overall a solid, interesting spring-time floral gourmand perfume.

I love this and I don't know why. It's a delicious gourmand without being a nauseatingly sticky mess. My attempt to explain what it smells like is so unappetizing, but I'll give it a go any way... Up top is a blast of pithy citrus, it sweetens and dries powdery. The orange blossom is sitting right ontop of a creamy, lactonic note that reminds me of slightly scorched milk. Toss in some burnt sugar, vanilla, almonds, tonka bean and something ever so slightly balsamic. Why does it make sense? I have no idea but it's lovely, unique, wearable and fresh...what the heck. I ordered a bottle today. For an edt it wore a good six hours on me, so I was very impressed. Totally unisex, and there is a edp version in a 30ml bottle.

First blast of orangey freshness, followed by caramel, then a powdered sugar doll head dry down. I love it.

Sweet unisex gourmand. After being wowed by Chinotto Dark - in quality and longevity I scrambled to get a bottle of this too. Unlike Chinotto Dark where Chinotto is the star, I feel here this is a slightly salty caramel with vanilla filling the middle, blowing out the sugar intake for the day - the orange blossom is detectable but it is more so complimentary to help bolden the caramel. The Chinotto seems to sit behind all this brightening it and giving it an earthy base at the same time. Over time the Chinotto becomes stronger as the other notes fade. Quite strong (as you’d expect for an EDP) but Dark was also strong and it was and EDT. For daily wear or business this is easily for ladies though the darkness helps make this a great mature novelty scent for men. Much better than say Shay and Blue Salted Caramel. After trying it a few times it’s won me over and I hope to see more releases from Abaton.

I’m really kind of diggin this. Yes, Chinotto Gourmand is in the same family as Poopoo Pidou and Serge Lutens Jeaux de Peau. All of these I love. Chinotto starts off with an odd blast of BITTER soapy aldehydes. Then as it dries down it sweetens up quite a bit and has a strong cereal/wheaty quality. You could imagine SL Jeaux de Peau with a ribbon of soapy bitterness thats present, but lessening with wear, becoming more cream of wheat with some sugar & milk after an hour. It’s very unusual but also compelling and so comforting. I used my 5 mL decant very quickly. Enjoyable. Moderate longevity & sillage. I might end up with a FB. Currently trying to decide between re-purchasing SL Jeaux de Peau (bottle nearly empty), and a FB of this.

Haven’t worn this since I acquired it in perhaps September or October of 2019. Shame on me and my collecting habit, it is too much. This reminds me also of Poo Poo Pidoo by Ego Facto. It has a warm, cozy vibe due to the lactones, and that reminds me of PPP. It has a slight citrus, the chinotto, and slight aldehydes, but they are by no means overwhelming. Underlying it all is something I can’t quite put my finger on. A cereal vibe? Maybe that’s also where the resemblance to PPP comes in for me. More people should wear this. Not only would they smell good, they would smell unique. To me, it is like a warm hug. Longevity is fine. Five hours on and I was still getting whiffs. The website says edt, but not the specific concentration.

Oh my... baby! This is a lustful gourmant! Start that reminds me of a wet bar of soap Dove .. cit. "with a quarter of moisturizer". Then .. on the skin I have the bitterness of the chinotto and orange blossom contrasting a vanilla caramel with that tempting hint of lemon that makes you clench your jaw! It continues to improve by pulverizing itself with a salted caramel that emerges even more in the bottom. I would say perhaps maternal. Lactonic, acidic like a regurgitation of a baby's milk near a breast, next to a Dove stick deodorant and baby wipes. Quite interesting, well done and "modern-contemporary" for the genre. It works best in the evening, after a hot bath, between pajamas, pillows and blankets. God night!

This opens up smelling just like caramel popcorn with a slight soapiness- I know, it sounds odd but this is absolutely delicious!!! The chinotto comes in, giving it a citrus and slight sweet smell. As it dries down there is a bit of florals, and I also get something nutty. At some points I even get a slight amaretto vibe. The performance on this is fantastic, especially for an EDT (which I've tested). I find this to be unisex, especially as it dries down. It's a hard fragrance to describe, so one you've just got try, but I really love this one!

I really, really like this. Aldehydes, dirty warm ones like powdered panties. Sweet. Smells like Liu edp by Guerlain, but stronger. More specifically, I realized, it reminds me of JAR Fermes tes Yeux. Thank god it's so much less expensive.

it's a gorgeous, strange, beautiful niche perfume, quite warm and heavy, not for every day

I loved Chinotto Dark and got this one as a sample with my order from Abaton. They are completely different fragrances with almost nothing in common but the name. I love chinotto: the taste, smell, that bitter citrus with a hint of balsamic darkness. I’m just not sure it works well with gourmand notes like caramel. Well, it might, but throw white florals into the mix, and it’s a bridge too far. It ends up smelling to me like a milky soap, lotion or skin creme. I can detect the caramel vanilla down there somewhere but it’s too much overshadowed by the orange blossom. The combination just misses the mark for me. I’m left wondering what could have been if the note balance was structured a bit differently. I wish the orange blossom was left out completely, but I respect the perfumer’s artistry. Of course it may work for someone else! I still am enthusiastic about Abaton and hope they produce more perfumes!

I liked this more on paper, it didn't work well on my skin. It's a really powdery citrus that smells more and more like soap as time goes on. If I smelled this on someone, I'd just assume that they took a shower in one of those modern hotels that's kind-of-trying be creative. I wouldn't even think that they used a perfume actually. I don't totally hate it but I'm glad I just got a small sample

Like the opening which is fairly rich and interesting. But after a half hour it goes all bake shop-meets-baby powder. Not worth more than a sample for me--may actually give that away.

This is a weird citrusy burnt kettle corn. Not for me.

Like eating popcorn in a movie theater bathroom scrubbed with orange cleaner.

The notes seem promising enough. Nothing could go wrong, right? Wrong. Despite the attractive composition, the smell is certainly not for me. It smells like you’ve stuck your nose into a container of vitamins, and sprinkled baby powder and orange peel on top of those vitamins. While it is not for me, if this description sounds attractive, this perfume is for you.

My first thought was popcorn, salty popcorn. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Caramel is in there but not dominant. And I am not getting anything citrussy, not sure what chinotto smells like. Turns powdery and a bit soapy with the popcorn salty taking stage throughout. Maybe even some iris? Nice scent, interesting, unique, but not one I can see myself wearing.

Frangipani/almond sweet bomb, reminds me of "Remember me" from Jovoy. Beautiful, deep, ultra gourmand fragrance. It feels like entering in an almond cake box. Definitely evokes Italy, sitting on the roof top enjoying an amaretto dropped in a cut of tea at 5 pm.
