Sequoia

It brings back some of my best memories; highpointing (in my case reaching the peak of the highest mountains in the lower 48). It’s fresh and uplifting, but as others have mentioned the longevity is not the greatest. This is one of the best photorealistic cedar/forest fragrance that I own, and I plan to keep it in my collection. When I smell it, my mood is instantly elevated and I love that it's nontoxic. I’ve also tried some of Abbott’s other scents and they are all great unisex options, with my 2nd favorite being Big Sky.

This smells like burning Palo Santo, I love it. Genuine natural woody incense scent.

Abbott New York City is a brand that focuses on "clean, sustainable beauty" and it has that sterilized modern feel that most "clean" beauty does. However, the woodiness comes from a nice cedar botanical extract, but the rest of the notes/ingredients come from the usual lineup of synthetics you'll find in Sephora's "clean" fragrances. While I like it just fine, I am exhausted with the phoney marketing of so-called clean beauty that poses as natural when it is the literal *stripping away* of all natural ingredients because natural ingredients don't smell "clean" and because the natural world can cause reactions in some people. I guess we better eliminate everything real and replace it with flat, lifeless synthetics as though they're actually better for you. Don't be fooled. Clean is fake. If you like this scent, buy it, but just know you're not getting the purity of nature, you're a tiny bit of cedar because its so benign, but the rest has nothing to do with nature despite the marketing.

This was a totally intuitive blind buy– another successful one at that! On a cold day, after the first winter storm of the season, this incensey, cedar-centric scent is perfect. The wood is pure and photorealistic. The incense, especially in the chilly winter air, adds a mysterious, cool fog to one’s vibe. It paints pictures of wintry/foggy deciduous forests in my mind. The sandalwood is subtle and the pepper adds a bit of scent texture without being overpowering. I’m actually surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed wearing it especially after reading others' reviews and seeing the comments on its longevity. I suspect that folks may go noseblind to it or it doesn't last long on everyone. It isn't a beast mode scent, by any means, but I do catch whiffs of it for several hours. It doesn’t evolve much and lasts for a moderate amount of time. It is as unisex as the scent of freshly cut, fragrant lumber.

I recently found out about this new US based niche house from my friend below picknenders. They are offering samples of all 4 of their scent for $5 with free shipping so I figured why not. Antoine Lie created 3 of the 4 who's well known for his various ELDO creations and Wonderwood so it was a no brainer. Sequoia reminds me of the CDG Incense series so much that it really could be the 5th frag in that series. It opens up with a pine smell that quickly translates to a woody incense vibe with a touch of pepper. It's sort of coniferous but not completely like Lutens Fille en Aiguilles. It's minimalistic in a way that diehard smoky/incense fans won't fall head over heels for it but it's very wearable and approachable. Can be signature worthy and I consider it a safe and likeable scent. This is the 1st that I have tried and can't wait to try the others!

Ever since visiting Yosemite and smelling the bark of the Ponderosa pine-I have been on a hunt to replicate that scent. It is a complex warm, vanilla, resin. This is very nice, I'm getting a warm woody citrusy scent, minus the deep vanilla, very close to the Ponderosa. Very disappointed in the sillage and longevity, it was barely there after only about 2 hours, and does not project at all. I would consider purchasing a full sized bottle , but I am not willing to pay perfume prices for a body spray. Update: I wore this over an unscented body lotion and layered it with The 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods. That is the scent I was looking for! Much better projection and lasted at least 6 hrs. Now it's a keeper-for both scents.

In keeping with Abbotts theme, very fresh and pretty complex for simple ingredients. I don’t chose any Abbotts as go-tos or daily colognes, but I LOVE them to help me set my vibe, or create a background for my day. So invigorating and interesting. This is definitely more on the mountainous side of a summer scent. The cedar is definitely prominent but softens nicely. I like the fact that this doesn’t have any overly sweet notes. Most woodsy colognes are sweetened with vanilla or lavendar. This is unapologetically woodsy. Definitely not an inside the office cologne. Be tough , eat a steak and chug a non ipa beer.

Tried from an Abbott NYC Exploration Set. The opening is definitely unisex-- balanced between woodsy and sweet. After about ten minutes I could detect the smoke and pepper a bit more. The projection dropped off quickly after that. Considering my favorite fragrances are citrusy, I'm surprised at how much I liked this woody offering even though it's only moderately sweet. The notes are harmonious and well-blended, nothing chemically. I think this could work for either the office or a date. Though it could stand to be a little more powerful, I would certainly wear this again.

Realistic hike in the woods fragrance. It's nice and it lasts a decent amount of time, and leans ever so slightly to the masculine side of unisex. I have a small sample bottle and enjoy it, but honestly I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking or spectacular enough to warrant $88 for a 1.7oz bottle IMO. I'd buy more and wear it if there was a great sale.

This reminds me of walking into a Christmas Tree Shoppes in the mid-2000s. It's like a pile of freshly chopped firewood in one of those old colonial reenactment villages. The pepper bring the freshness of a freshly-snapped branch to a background of pleasant mustiness. It'll be nice for the winter, but there's not enough depth for me to want a full bottle.

Smells like the redwood incense you can buy from the Sequoia National Park, which is one of my favorite home fragrances. I don't really pick up on sandalwood or cedar, it's a very well blended smoky sequoia. Longevity is 2-4 hours, but it sticks well to clothing. Fairly linear scent, the smoke fades a bit and the woods get softer.

I agree with Chicago Tony T's comparison of this to the CDG Incense series but the incense is toned down here in favor of the pine, pepper and sandalwood. Has good silage for a couple of hours but becomes a skin scent after that. I like it but didn't love it.

Agree with sentiments from the reviewers here. Mellow pepper and incense emerge and last for a few hours. Would add that this strikes me as a casual weekend wear frag, maybe leisurely hike/walk, or hanging around with friends while a pit fire kicks up.

Sweet wood... Smells more like oud with sweet undertones. My initial thought was that this would be pleasing to the under 20 crowd. I'll stick with that. 6/10

This one is woodsy, reminds me of a men's perfume or of the Maison Louis Marie Le Long Fond. Could be a room scent for a woodsy spa. That said, I don't love it with my skin chemistry. It's harsh upon first spray though it softens with a bit of time. The softer version of it doesn't feel "pretty" - it's interesting, but I'd rather have it as a room spray or candle. Good for an indie "it girl" in NYC or LA perhaps, but doesn't feel feminine, which is how I like to feel when wearing perfume. Definitely get the cedar, and maybe even pine needles or a very dry parchment.

I used to like this but after while I got tired of the "powdery" aspect of it. I've learned to avoid frags with the incense note because they often carry that powdery element. Unfortunately I still have half a 50ml bottle and an unopened 50ml bottle of this that I'm not as inclined to use as I thought I was going to be a few years ago. Overall it's not a bad frag. I think if it were a bit more open and fresh and not stifled by that powdery note I would like it better. I definitely like the sequoia / redwood notes in frags, but it seems like it's not very common.

Hmmm...no interest in wearing this one. I don't get much citrus or floral, but a very clear and woody blend with lots of pepper that isn't hard on the nose (so like wet peppercorns). I would say this is a sunny fragrance with depth. I get no incense but something slightly creamy in character on the skin; most likely what was to be jasmine in there, along with the sandalwood. Try if you want an aromatic woody perfume, and that's about it.

Warm, dry wood with a smoky sweetness. I like wood and incense, but the type of wood note and incense notes used in Sequoia are not for me. It's hard to articulate why. Maybe the resinous aspect?Reviews seem to be mixed and my impression is a resounding "meh". It's not bad, but I don't even want to use up the rest of my sample.

I think there must be something wrong with my sample (got it in a set packaged by Abbott). It smells like vintage perfume that's gone off. The cap smells good, something like what the notes here say it should smell like, but when I spray it on my skin and clothes, it has that sickly smell of old perfume that's way too oxidized. The bottle is clear and the juice has no color. Rating N/A

I liked this a lot more when I first bought it. I just don’t like it now. I think it’s just too masculine even though it is marketed as unisex. My daughter loved it too at first and got her own bottle, now we both sort of just don’t like it. Very woody and smoky and not a disgusting scent, just not for me!

The name says it all. Wood and spices. This is not a scent I gravitate towards, but I got a sample. I think for those who like woody scents, this is perfectly fine.

Did not like this one. I’d wanted to try it for a year, snagged it half off on the Sephora sale along with Big Sky (that one was an impulse buy). I did not respond well to Sequoia at all. To me, incense was overpowering and the way it was done in this fragrance was not to my liking. Ended up returning it, but I kept Big Sky.

Very light (i could see a lot of people complaining about the performance given the price, and even though i prefer things on the light side i think those would be valid gripes), mostly a clean musk than anything truly woody or natural to be honest. But it is a really well done clean musk, they are really hit or miss for me and my interest in fragrance is not to smell clean or put together- but i actually kinda like this one. I think its bc it does feel like a cleanliness that leans naturalistic instead of leaning synthetic. I can pick up on nuances up close soon after its sprayed-It does have a slightly woodsy air about it- more like sagey to be honest, maybe even something slightly peppery, but really this is all fleeting and i think the main scent impression this gives off overall is primarily a clean musk, unisex right down the line, and it doesnt achieve what its marketed as in my opinion, but i actually really like this and find it signature worthy- especially if you want something light that just gives you a breezy clean slightly naturalistic aura around you instead of feeling like you doused yourself with a fragrance- someone below described this as a “pleasant mustyness” and i second that summation. As someone who actually lives amongst a lot of nature and not in a city, i do think there is some kind of natural beauty to the way this is blended- i dont think this is just made for young urbanites who want to evoke a natural image as someone else below said- though i did feel that way about most of abbott’s other offerings, I got a sample set of a bunch of other abbott fragrances and this is the only one i could see myself buying

I think Abbott NYC achieves what it aims for, which is to create very streamlined, easy-to-wear, masculine-side-of-unisex fragrances for young urbanites who want to evoke the outdoors, but in a minimalist and modern way. None of that equates to innovation or individuality, but that's really not what this label seems to be aiming for. Sequoia is a smooth and airy incense and sandalwood creation. It's soft and a bit sweet. I imagine it would make a great everyday fragrance for a twenty-something guy working at a startup. It's a bit more affordable than Malin+Goetz or Aesop, two brands that fit a similar brief albeit in a slightly more sophisticated form. I respect that this fragrance accomplishes exactly what it seems to aim for - a clean, modern, approachable weekend or casual office scent.

This was my first Abbott, coming off a sample set I got on sale. It's nice, just not very unique. It's simple and woodsy. It's mostly cedar, with a little bite of spiciness. What I like about this one is that it's extremely versatile: it does feel like a day or night scent, or one that could be worn during any season. I do mostly agree with the unisex descriptor, but I also find it to be certainly masc-of-center. It has a medium sillage and longevity. It's not remarkable, but I don't think it would be a regret purchase for many people. I wouldn't buy a full bottle of this, but it seems like the type of a perfume to give a younger person who is getting into perfume for the first time.

Surprisingly, this scent gave me the first compliment from a stranger ever! Sequoia is a simple fragrance that starts with spiciness and dries down into pure woods. I also get some acidity in the woods notes, almost like it is woods mixed with some citrus. I like it, it is very fresh and elegant and you certainly won't smell like every other person. However, I am very disappointed with the sillage and longevity. I had to spray a lot on and even after having it on all my pulse points and hair, the scent was gone within 4 hours.

What a pleasant clean smelling woody aroma... it almost smells like a house essential oil and or candle.
