Real Oud can be funky, but generally on skin they change, evolve, and that's when the magic happens. Type, Quality, distillation purity, supporting notes, skin chemistry, and perfumer skill in blending all play a factor. Oud used here is Indian IMO, and is supported by animalic patchouli, and further boosted by camphor. The strong camphor opens up your sinuses, and allows the this pungent juice to go straight to the brain. Just like some rogue chemist figured out how to make cocaine more potent in the form of Crack, Oud Caravan No.1 is made more lethal with its supporting notes. This potent concoction smells like concentrated barnyard manure mixed with B.O. This fragrance is NOT a pleasant experience. Everyone I've let smell is repulsed. 🤢 The fact that someone can wear this in the Middle East heat is beyond my understanding. Now before you tell me I have a western amateur nose, let me say that although I am American, my father is Middle Eastern, and I have many Middle Eastern relatives. I've smelled genuine oud burned and worn, many times. This fragrance does calm down to an extent but only gets better on drydown because the smell fades. It is discontinued and I can see maybe for that reason or the type of oud is scarce. Even though it punches you in the face with grossness, it seems to fade out pretty quickly (I haven't been able to keep it on for extended periods of time to fully test) or I become nose blind. I keep my decant as a novelty to let people smell if they want the "fecal barnyard oud experience". This is hands down the most challenging fragrance I have ever smelled.
