The Apartment

When I smell the apartment what I visualise is: a dense chocolate cake with a rum drizzled overtop, heaps of tart cherries covered in icing sugar, and then fresh jasmine on top of the cake. It just smells so good, not a medicinal cherry smell too! It definitely isn't a juvenile gourmand, it feels pretty sophisticated. Perfect for date night or to just to wear out to dinner!

this has lost cherry vibes, in a good way. i agree with the reviewer below @Sannesans who said it feels like red wine and old books. It's the mix of cherry and rum, the tropical florals give it a bit of a mai tai quality, and powdery, rich tolu balsam. Love that it's not too overpowering or headache inducing, but still addictive. Very cozy as the name suggests.

It's hard to describe. This is an olfactory replica of the weird jelly car air freshener my mom gave me in 2011 which I stashed in the drawer of my oakwood desk for years. It is a complex scent that smells really natural and appealing. I would buy a full bottle of this. It is a unique scent that imitates real life in some odd way. It was an instant favorite.

Really enjoy this one. Different than the usual profiles I gravitate to. Lovely for a day-to-night situation. Not to heavy for daytime but loud enough for the night. Reminds me of Chanel's Comete but less powdery. Wood and cherry liquor, no cough medicine or candied cherry here. Dark and rich. Intense in scent but not suffocating in projection. Exquisite.

@thatgirl27, I wonder whether the staff in the shop sprayed you with the wrong Abel perfume? Their Pause is all about the hay (and narcissus and mimosa) where this one ... really isn't. If there is any chance that you did not try the same bottle on both skin and paper, it might be worth doing a re-test of The Apartment.

A beautifully blended, sophisticated gourmand for grown-ups. The cherries are sweet and juicy, the rum and cacao dark and delicious, and the white flowers, balsam and incense provide a satisfyingly complex setting. I am always glad to find a good chocolate note in a perfume, as they can be over-sweet or overwhelming.

I love everything about this fragrance and about Abel as a brand. I don't usually gravitate towards this scent profile but I knew that if I were to like a dark gourmand, Abel could sway me. I'm so glad I tried it; it's in my top 3 favorites of all time.

I absolutely love the scent! I adore it! Cacao, rum, cherry...a wonderfully cozy gourmand. Perfect for a cold winter day. However, the 6ml bottle doesn't seem to be very airtight, and sadly, more of it evaporates than I use.

First impression: Not overwhelming cherry which is nice if you find Lost Cherry by Tom Ford to be too sweet. The cacao and rum note is so evenly balanced with the cherry that even though as a woman I wouldn't wear this, I'd prefer it on a guy but women could also pull this off. The drydown however is a different story; it dries down like cherry sweets which I'd appreciate more on myself

I’m getting dusty chocolate, powdered sugar, and a hint of coconut. Something about it reminds me of the powdery rocket candies (smarties in the USA). I don’t get too much cherry on my skin besides a slight marzipan sweetness mingled with the chocolate, but you have to look for it. Moderate projection.

The opening features a soft, natural cherry—never sharp or acidic—that gracefully transitions into a lightly sweet heart. This sweetness is akin to a well-balanced cocktail, airy and refreshing, rather than the heavy sweetness of dessert. While the cherry and powdery chocolate notes might suggest a gourmand profile, I perceive The Apartment as more of an aromatic scent with gourmand nuances. The name is fitting, as the fragrance evokes a sense of cozy intimacy, like being surrounded by well-loved books in a warm, inviting apartment. A resinous wood base provides a grounding foundation. Perfectly unisex, The Apartment is well-suited for both men and women, particularly during the spring and fall seasons. While I appreciate the fragrance's composition and find it pleasant, it doesn't quite resonate with my personal style. However, I can easily imagine enjoying it as a sophisticated room fragrance, adding a touch of quiet comfort to any space.

It opens with a chemical nail-polish-remover smell, but in 5 min becomes softer and sweeter. What remains is a very light, soft black cherry scent that sits close to the skin. It is perfectly fine for layering, as it is subtle and not particularly outspoken, at least on me. If you spray a few layers on top of each other, it does gain a little more depth: a tiny bit more rum, cacao and resin start to come through. Not FB worth imo though.

This is a sweet rum/cherry gourmand scent that manages not to be too sticky or dense

I was in a department store and they had this pumping through the vents. It smelled amazing. I asked what it was and on paper it was still good. Tried it on skin... it smells like hay! If I were a horse, I would gladly wear this perfume. Alas, I am not. I don’t eat hay so I would never call this a gourmand. Not blind but safe, you MUST try on skin before purchasing

This one is really not my speed but I recently came into possession of a travel size. It’s gourmand while still being somewhat delicate. Boozy, chocolatey, with a little bright cherry. The chocolate is a little dusty. I can definitely see the inspiration although it doesn’t necessarily smell “French.” The gourmand components do go slightly play-doh on me. At the same time it’s much more delicate than one would expect, and smells almost airy. Definitely “The Apartment” rather than “The Black Forest Cake.” I don’t really get the other components but I think they are helping to keep this balanced.

I love this! When you read the notes you expect it to be something that smells heavy, but to me this is not at all heavy. It has this airy lift quality that makes you feel like you smell nice not because you put on a nice perfume, but because your home smells nice, do you get what I mean? It's more like an aura. Definitely on my wish list!

This smells like cherry slices, which just so happen to be my favorite candy. There is a synthetic-smelling element to this, which I think is what makes it lean more cherry candy as opposed to cherry fruit.

Beautiful warm spicy fragrance that stands out from the gourmand crowd. It does smell like walking into a beautiful old Hausmann apartment with old books and red wine. Love it!
