First Instinct Sheer

This fragrance live up to its name. It is SHEER. You know when people say about a fragrance that it’s « a transparent one ». Like a beautiful veil. Yes, it is exactly what it is. I can totally compare it to a bunch of other perfumes. It has that typical dna (white floral, beachy, lotion, sun tan etc.) but what I very much enjoy about this fragrance is the way everything is blended. Nothing heavy, nor syrupy. It’s feminine & sheer. Like a breeze of warm air during summer. Most of the time, this type of dna will go too hard on the vanilla, too much coconut, too heavy on the white/yellow floral. Heavy on the basenotes. But, First Instinct is so so simple, that it makes it beautiful. Bottle is also quite simple, liquid fits the warm & sunny scent. [So basically, if you’re looking for something deeper, sexy & sultry, don’t buy this!] It’s linear, not very sweet, not to floral, not too soapy. It’s a warm veil that screams summer, elegance & breezy mediterranean vacay! Both longevity & sillage are moderate at most. Actually, you might need to reapply troughout the day. Office friendly.

Abercrombie and Fitch's First Instinct Sheer is beautiful and has an undeniable sunscreen scent to it. You also smell the floral lily and faint citrus note, and the dry down becomes a little musky and warmer. It is blended beautifully. Perfect for summer or daytime use. I had way to many 'sun tan lotion / sunscreen' DNA perfumes like First Instinct, Bobbi Brown Beach, NEST Sun-kissed Hibiscus, Jennifer Anniston, etc. I am keeping Bobbi Brown due to the smell bringing back so many memories, and this one for being so balanced and nice.

This is driving through one of the canyons in SoCal in spring. It’s orange blossom, and the salt-heavy air around the rock faces in Topanga Canyon as you head into Malibu, and the almost invasive oleander that blooms wildly next to every fence or wall once it’s warm enough. It’s a green floral that on its best day, smells like plumeria and tuberose instead. What a nice nostalgic blind buy this was. Nothing cloying or overly sweet about it in my opinion.

Liked it upon first spritz, then I found myself sniffing my hand over and over again and loved it! Summer. Mediterranean. Reminds me of Coppertone after sun lotion, but a tad more citrusy. It's a soft orange blossom perfume. Wish the longevity was longer, but that's the issue with most of these kind of perfumes. Will be buying it for summer months.

Beautiful. As a child I used to eat black locust flowers. They were sweet (honey) and scented like orange blossom with hidden note of lime/lemon and sweetpea. This is it. (maybe except the citrus note). You feel like eating black locust blossom. It's warm floral girlish perfume.

I was suprised how much I loved it. Of course it is fresh but with some added interest, maybe due to red pepper and orange flower note. Great for office and casual wear. This one was my favourite among the First instinct line.

10/30/19 - Top notes: bergamot, pink pepper, air accord Mid: orange flower, hibiscus, Lily of the Valley Base notes: musk, creamy woods, amber I’m terrible at extrapolating single notes. All I can share with you is what it smells like as a whole on my skin. TBH some aren’t going to like this, BUT... it smells soapy-florally-clean. It’s exactly what * I * wanted; I came here specifically looking for a frag I could wear to work as a healthcare professional that would be safe with my clientele who are not feeling their best. I wanted something completely safe and unobtrusive - something those around me would pick up as light and fresh and clean. That’s exactly what this is. It reminds me a LOT of the powder “Shower to Shower” original if you’re familiar with that. If you’re looking for something deep, complex, and sultry - this ain’t it. I do think it could be sexy in the right circumstance though. I am one whose turned on by others who smell clean, and when I get my nose right in to all that... oh, lawd! 🔥🥰🔥 So it just depends on what trips your trigger 😉 Sillage is about 4 feet... longevity is poor - an hour at best but spraying it on your clothes and in your hair will boost it. Still, expect to carry it around with you for reapplications. Don’t spend more than a few dollars on this is my best advice.

Got this for $15 US. I was being discreetly obnoxious at the discount Ross store- trying to get a cell bar so I could check w/Fragrantica & see what the consensus was. I’d never heard of it but was drawn to the pkg & $. It’s clean, sunny, effervescent, & warm, & I can’t fathom wearing this other than in summer. It reminded me of Greece & Italy in July. If you like: Issey miyake l'eau d'issey Shade of Sunrise, TF Neroli Portifino, TF E’au Soleil Blanc, Liz C. Mambo, any of the summer release “Eau Fraiche” series f/Jean Paul Gaultier, D&G Light Blue Sun, Cavalli Aqua, E. Taylor Love & White Diamonds, I feel confident that I can recommend this one to you. It’s sweet/floral f/Neroli, salty f/the “air accord”, & I’m not sure if the musk mixed w/bergamot/citrus is what makes this type of scent “soapy”, but it’s done well & doesn’t “sit in your mouth”. I get zero blue lemon scented dish soap vibes (as in Dylan Turq), & I can tell it will smell stronger/ throw further on warm skin. Tested in 80* w/slight humidity & it’s gorgeous. My husband couldn’t stop smelling my forearm! That’s good enough for the 32+ years married smitten old me.💕 Cheers! Sheridan~

March 2020 As I am transitioning to spring/summer frags, I found two that I put in the light-pleasant-indistinct-summer category. One was this and the other was Philosophy's limited ed. Snow Angel. Comparing the notes for both, it was no wonder! Both open with an Air accord. Both have Orange Blossom middle. Both have Musk in the base. In the Philosophy, the melon is pretty distinct. In this, the OB is more prominent. Both are kinda lotion-y. I wouldnt say - soapy. I bought this at Marshalls. a safe blind buy, altho it wasnt blind for me since I had tested it before and remembered that it was pleasant.

Very lovely and elegant summer fragrance. Easy to wear and appropriate for all occasions, in my opinion. Longevity is lacking, unfortunately. It has an old school vibe to it, reminds me of something I used to smell in my childhood but I can't quite put my finger on what it was exactly. It's nostalgic to me. I will update if I figure it out. It's going to haunt me for days now.

This has always reminded me of a high end hair spray, but in a good way. I do not understand the connections to Tom Ford Eau de Soleil Blanc as I have both and they are not similar at all. This is a much more floral-heavy orange blossom fragrance with almost no sweetness whatsoever. Perfectly light and breezy.

Lovely! Its pure bergamot & orange blossom! Its like the other notes doesnt exist. But i think its identical to La vie est belle eclat edt and edp, also Alien Flora Futura. Spring/summer frgrance. Great longevity (moderate) and sillage (moderate)

smells like a y2k summer, very sunscreen soapy clean girl, i kinda imagine the girls from h2o wearing something like this. it is pleasant, and a really good scent for a beginner. It is a very young scent. beach day vibes.

To me it smells sweet, warm, cozy and womanly. It's nothing special or exciting, but pleasant.

This is not my favourite scent. I think it’s for younger democraphic, but to me it has somekind of vintage feel to it. I can smell powdery notes, but maybe it is just my skin. It reminds me so much of my grandmother, she use to wear something that smelled like this. I only have sample size and sometimes I spray it, just to relive some memories with her. Bless her and her stinky perfumes ❤️

a citrusy, musky summer scent. pretty heavy on the orange blossom note, it's all I can smell, so if you're into orange blossom, try it out, but it's definitely not for me, the more I smell it the more sick I get of it.

Beach sunscreen. Too sharp to be pretty but it’s pleasant in a generic way, like the no ad version of Coppertone lotion.

Dear, this is so weird! You'd expect something fresh and crispy but frim the first seconds you get somethin sickeningly sweet and cloying, almost sticky (musk and amber). The combo is broken by the bitterness of orange blossom but the bitterness is conditional too - it's sort of round and warm. After 5 minutes the so-called "mountain air" note (pretty artificial here) disappears and what remains is this weird, artificial, warm and salty orange blossom note on musky/amber basis. I don't think I'll ever become a fan of this scent...😕

I can't put my finger on it but I just don't like it. It smells chemically, insect spray, and hairspray mixed with amber. I got this from Ross 3.4oz for $13.99. Good deal but I don't like it. 1st Instinct and first Instinct together smells better than this.

Tried yesterday and had to scrub it off. For me smells like dish wash liquid soap.

I saw this at discount at Marshalls and after spraying it, I realized its super heavy on orange blossom note. If you a fan of the flower, you will love this, if not, not so much. I get very fresh soapy spicy scent, not like typical detergent. And I knew it reminded me of something-when I looked on here-bingo, Neroli Portofino. I liked NP but didn't think it was worth the very large price tag and that stuff didn't last. First Instinct does last several hours and its a very inexpensive scent. So if you like fresh orange flower soapy vibe, give this a try. This is not my normal type of scent, but I am liking it right now because its summer and its hot as blazes.

This is a soapy-soapy fragrance, to that extent that it reminds me very old perfume from my grandma's shelf or some expensive soap bar which was held among pullovers to bring moths away but really pleasant smell . I like it , I like the cleanness of it, it's fresh and uplifting.

On my skin, it smells similar to D&G Light Blue Eau intense. But I love em both though 😁

Heavy orange blossom, fresh, young, unique, soapy.
