Acqua di Parma Colonia

For those with more than a passing interest in fragrances and collecting them, the driving force is often a quest to find perfection ... the elusive Holy Grail. Each of us, of course, will have different ideas about how such a fragrance should smell and perform. Sadly, it’s doubtful we'll find true perfection, but we can come close. By experiencing a wide range of scents, we gain a better understanding of the profiles we most enjoy and can narrow down the search accordingly. In doing this and having discovered Acqua di Parma’s wonderful Fico di Amalfi, I’ve been consistently drawn to the brand’s other offerings. I’ve sampled and reviewed Colonia Futura, Colonia Intensa, and Colonia Essenza. Of these, I found Essenza the most enjoyable, though it still fell short of exactly what I was hoping for. Oddly, I had made a conscious effort to avoid the extremely well-known, original Colonia, fearing it might be just a bit too old-fashioned for my taste. After all, it has been a staple of Italian culture since its introduction in 1916. Unsurprisingly for a fragrance dating back to the early 20th century, Colonia opens with a bright, zesty citrus burst, with a natural lemon note to the fore. In the first minute or so on my skin, it reminds me of Dior’s Eau Sauvage EdT, which is to be expected, as they share key accords: citrus, aromatic, spicy, and woody. It’s impossible to know for sure, but I imagine Eau Sauvage was influenced by Colonia, although the introduction of Hedione in Eau Sauvage does set the two apart. In those first moments after application, Eau Sauvage feels just a touch brighter, sharper, and more sparkling than Colonia, which runs a close second. To my nose, Colonia’s opening is one of the best among the citrus-forward fragrances I’ve experienced, though it is short-lived. Within ten minutes, that early zestiness fades, giving way to warm, soft, mellow notes of primarily lavender and rosemary, initially. Soon after, rose and jasmine join the mix and further in the background I detect vetiver. After an hour, there remains a subtle hint of lemon that gently ties the composition together. As to be expected from an Eau de Cologne like Colonia, longevity is not its strong suit, nor is it intended to be. In the latter stages of its development, around the two-hour mark, one is left with a smooth, slightly powdery blend of lavender, rose, and amber. It’s subtle and perfect for hot days and warm nights on the Amalfi Coast. I don’t fully understand why I’m so consistently drawn to the fragrances of Acqua di Parma, especially since I haven’t overly enjoyed all the ones I’ve tried, but Colonia does border on perfect for me. Perhaps, somewhere in the back of my mind, I feel that this fragrance reflects the effortless grace and studied nonchalance typical of Italian gentlemen from a certain era. It doesn’t try too hard to make an impression. It is sprezzatura, bottled. If you want to smell like a bag of Haribo sweets or a vanilla latte for two days, then Colonia is definitely not for you. If, on the contrary, you're seeking relaxed, quiet, classic sophistication ... then Colonia! Tested: 2ml decant (now full bottle). Seasons / Occasions: Spring and summer. Informal wear. What is going on with Acqua di Parma? Once my favorite house, I feel like they're totally dropping the ball the past few years. They're really doubling down on their endless string of fragrances showcasing a single dominating note, particularly floral notes as of late. Don't forget their exclusive Harrod's fragrance, Zafferano, that no one else gets to experience. Look at the very few reviews of these recent offerings. Hardly anyone is interested in them. They just aren't impressive. Next, spend some time on their social media. They have spent months marketing a special edition Mirto di Panarea that has been on the market for YEARS. It's a fine fragrance, I own the original, but it's not particularly interesting. It's not like the fragrance community talks about it much. Why spend months marketing a years-old fragrance that was simply repackaged in a gimmicky, new bottle? Finally, examine HOW they market their fragrances. They're constantly throwing these swanky brunches with fancy table arrangements which only the smallest percentage of the wealthy class will ever attend. Is that the target audience? Unfortunately, it seems like it. They price their fragrances exorbitantly high but you'll see them on resale websites for a TINY fraction of their retail price. $300 for Lily of the Valley? Are you out of your mind? In what world is that a $300 fragrance? People are having difficulty reselling it online for $50-60. The average person just isn't interested in AdP and won't spend much to obtain one. I'm not sure that this will ever be read by someone at AdP, but, if so, please know that I love many AdP offerings. I own seven. Colonia is one of my favorite of my entire collection. The brand has such potential, I wish AdP would do more to tap into that potential. Please stop with the "ingredients" fragrances and build a modern successor to the legendary Colonia. Not a Colonia FLANKER, put that line to rest. Create the next iconic Italian magnum opus in perfumery for the 21st century. A new fragrance. Something that is high-quality, mass appealing, and UNIQUE. It should set trends in the fragrance world. Finally, the NUMBER ONE complaint about AdP fragrances is that they have serious performance issues. Pull out all the stops. Retain the best perfumer in the world and create a halo fragrance that silences the critics: make it project and make it last. AdP was once at the top of the fragrance world; it has all the potential to be there once again if it's willing to adapt with the times, and focus less on marketing the frills of wealth and status, and more on the perfumery itself.

I have heard what all of you have to say. I know that times have changed, I know that perfumers across the industry are trying to outdo each other in one way or the other, coming up with more and more complicated and supposedly sophisticated fragrances. But the truth is, there is a reason why this gorgeous, gorgeous fragrance has lasted so long. Yes it is a take on the classic cologne formula. Yes it has a similar DNA to 4711. But you need to put it within the context of the time when it was formulated. The standard "Köln wasser" was the start of something good. Acqua di Parma Colonia took that formula and made it into something inimitable. What is "finesse"? It is hard to explain, hard to describe. But intelligence is a big part of the formula. I have heard many experienced chefs describing the experience they had at Michelin starred restaurant, and one common theme that comes up is that the food they tasted was evocative - it brought back memories. How can something you have never tasted before bring back memories? Only someone who has a true, deep understanding of sensations, and a mastery of the alchemy that can evoke these feelings, can provide you with this kind of experience I had never smelt Acqua di Parma Colonia until 2 years ago. I grew up in Italy, my young years were spent on my scooter driving around Rome, and my summers smelt and tasted of the Mediterranean Sea. And yet, despite the fact that I had never smelt this fragrance before, the moment my nose sensed this scent, suddenly memories started to flash back into my mind. Colonia reminded me of that weekend at Porto Ercole where my father taught me life lessons. Colonia reminded me of that beautiful tall girl that I spent the summer of 93 with at the swimming pool. It reminded me of my Grandfather, a Gentleman who only came to visit us in Italy once. It reminded me of my Grandmother, who loved lavender. The citrus. It brings back summer on the Mediterranean Sea. The Lavender. It brings back the old fashioned solidity of my ancestors. The Bulgarian rose. The game changer in this formula that evokes the more delicate and secret memories that one does not talk about. The Vetiver. It brings back memories of aspiring to grow from boy to man. And finally the Sandalwood and the Amber. Bringing an old fashioned gentlemanliness that the world so needs now. I don't care if anyone finds this outdated or old fashioned. It is a true masterpiece.

A classic, legendary, masterclass in the perfect cologne, and it has been teaching this class since 1916. Its first and best lesson is getting those refreshing hesperidic top notes to last so long and well into the heart layer. The opening is chock full of lemon juice and bitter orange that is equally vibrant, sour, and oily zesty. These continue into the heart layer with an inspired use of lemon verbena. It’s here that Colonia really gets into its stride. Lesson number two is the seamless stitching of florals with herbs. Here is how you present rose in a classically masculine manner, which has been imitated on and on for more than 100 years. Place a powdery, gentle, pink rose in the company of soapy lavender, some citrus elements and give it some bitter green energy (in this case herbs, like the verbena which accomplishes both), and you have something beautiful, clean, and classy. Lesson number three is delivered using the heart and base layers, which is that of airy richness without any loud, burdensome, or lumpen characteristics. Colonia has this ability to live vibrantly and richly just a couple inches off of your skin, like the lingering effects of a luxurious soap. Cleanliness shouldn’t shout or sillage like biochemical warfare, nor last an eternity. The transition from the heart to the base is sublime and textbook, as damp and woody mosses, a light brown, dry and loamy patchouli, and a creamy aromatic sandalwood effortlessly link to the rose and earthy herbs before. There you have it. Very simple, but repeated ad nauseum for a century because it’s just that good. With that simplicity there is nowhere to hide any missteps, no dressing-up subpar materials with a bunch of other stuff. This is the cologne that has been the benchmark and the reference point for nearly all other colognes that have come since.

I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed this, even though it was one of the first full bottles on my shelf. I don’t know how closely it resembles the 1916 original, but what’s on my skin now is a masterclass in how to stretch a citrus cologne without losing the plot. The thing about Colonia is that it never quite announces itself. You spray it on, and for a few seconds it’s just “ah, citrus,” like dozens of other things. But then, if you’re paying attention, it starts to hum. Not sing. Just hum. A slow, golden chord that stretches out across the next couple of hours. It’s easy to miss how elegant it is. Maybe because it’s not trying to do anything clever. No tricks, no drama, no modern “twist.” Just citrus, herbs, flowers, and a warm, woody base that you don’t really notice until it’s already made itself at home. A good tailor never makes a point of the seams. The drydown is where it really shines. You don’t smell it and think “nice, vetiver!” or “is that rose?” You smell it and think, someone well put-together was just here. And maybe they left their scarf behind. Sure, it doesn’t last forever. But that’s kind of the point. People talk about it like it’s conventional, but I actually think it’s pretty weird—how quiet it is, how little it asks of you, and how much it gives back in presence. Maybe it’s like a well made chair: not exciting, but if you sit in it long enough, you realize everything else feels off by comparison. PS: Oh and I love the Art Deco bottle, with its elegant crest and geometric sans-serif typeface.

What a masterpiece! Unbelievable. Now that I own it, I remember how many greats were released decades ago. Some of my favorite fragrances came out before the 90s, but many more are to be discovered. TOP NOTES The top notes deliver a refreshing burst of citrus that is invigorating and light. The blend of lemon, orange, and bergamot creates a sharp, pure, and rejuvenating sensation reminiscent of a refreshing breeze from the Mediterranean.These ingredients are iconic in Italian perfumery, offering a zesty and airy scent I can’t imagine anyone disliking. HEART NOTES At the core of its middle stage, you’ll find a mesmerizing combination of lavender, rosemary, and damask rose(waxier with a honey-like texture, unlike Bulgarian, which is jammy). Lavender brings out aromatic freshness that complements rosemary and adds an intriguing, refreshing, herbal layer to the composition. BASE NOTES Residues of the most prominent notes and accords from the top and the mid, combined with white musk, remind me of clean sheets. The woody notes are here, but way back, and the only real one I can faintly smell is the sandalwood with a pinch of peppery vetiver. OVERALL Colonia is a relatively straightforward and slightly more uncomplicated fragrance than we usually see today, but it is done to perfection, and I wouldn’t change a single bit of it. Colonia is a classic cologne, radiant and refreshing, over 100 years old but utterly timeless. It is also perfectly unisex. It is citrus-forward, as to be expected, as well as green and woody with floral nuances throughout. It avoids the astringent quality that some cheap colognes fall victim to, managing to be somewhat well-rounded despite being a light, fresh cologne. Colonia opens with citrus notes, mostly lemon and orange, developing into a lovely herbal verbena note, enhanced by a hint of rosemary and aromatic lavender, bringing it to barbershop territory. The citrus and herbs are quintessentially Italian, a nod to the heritage of this house. The cologne structure remains in place as it develops, enhanced by soft floral notes. I get some sweet, powdery rose and a little clean jasmine, rounding it out. As it dries down, it becomes a little woody and earthy, grounding it somewhat and adding a suggestion of a chypre base. It is also quite soapy here. It fades to become a musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate - good performance for a cologne. One of the best traditional colognes on the market, Colonia gives Chanel EDC and Eau de Guerlain a run for their money. Hot weather elegance. Cologne with an Italian flair. 4.5/5.

You are staring at a photograph of your great grandfather. He is young, elegant, sharply dressed, with a slight haze of time creeping in as a fuzzy deterioration at the edges of the image. He isn’t smiling. He isn’t doing anything but staring straight ahead. And yet you are sure in his eyes you can see what he sees. Infinite possibility. Then, on the small dresser behind him, hiding in shadows made by light or the half life of photographic chemicals long past prime, is a small bottle filled with history. “If I could only reach through this picture and snatch that cologne,” you think to yourself. And so you do. That is the essence of this marvelous and magnificent fragrance. It is dated and that is precisely the object of revelry. One plunges into a world of antiques made new again, and sees in color all those friends and acquaintances you otherwise would never know. This is a barbershop made of time, fueled by rose and musk, somehow evocative still, both gentle and masculine. This is an unmatched citrus by a seaside long built over and run through with eager tourism. This scent is not for the voyeur looking into the window of the past, but for the adventurer willing to step through the door and live inside the house of yesterday.

#719 in my "Tour de Fragrance" It doesn't get more classic and old school than a scent from WWI. This is a timeless aromatic fougere that works for a guy that wears cufflinks to the office and white linen shirts to the beach. It's a standout scent in a time when too many guys sit in mom's basement playing video games, watching porn and smelling like old pizza boxes. If you missed Bill Maher's "Ted Talk" G.A.M.E. in the June 28, 2024 episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" find it and watch it. This is a soapy, citrusy, green, unsweetened and woody scent that announces your "good grooming", with a just hint of musk and amber, and zero vanilla. And aren't we all getting bored with vanilla? I find myself more and more reaching for classic scents like this, Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum, Houbigant Duc De Vervins Extreme, just so I don't smell like everyone else. This is a great scent at a great price that every man over the age of thirty should have on the shelf. Car pool, elevator and office safe, especially for you if you wear a well-made suit to the office, but equally worthy of the waterfront sands. ENJOY!

It's a timeless classic. I bought it blind, even after reading the polarizing opinions on the forum. Fortunately, it was a successful blind buy. It is kinda dated style, so for younger people I don't recommend for blind purchase. As for me, 43 y.o., it suits my style. When I smell it, I feel vintage lol. No wonder it was created more than 100 years ago, although perhaps it has been reformulated sveral times (I cannot confirm as I didnt check). Anyway, it is bright, mature, inoffensive. I dont think it will give polarizing reaction to people around you. I mean, it won't be "nice smelling!" vs "what is this smell???? Awful!!!", but more like positive vs neutral, especially with its polite projection. About longevity, yes, typical Acqua di Parma eau de cologne, gone in 3-4 hours. That's why I rarely wear it to office, more for short errands. For office, I prefer to wear its flankers, Colonia Essenza, which smells more modern and better performance (longevity). Imho, Colonia OG is more unisex while Colonia Essenza is more masculine.

This is a classic! An all timer, in my opinion. Starts out deliciously so with a lemon forward citrus that just is bright and fresh! Some flowery lavender calms that down a bit and just melts perfectly together and turns into a very clean smelling soapy scent with some of the top notes with the addition of a touch of sandalwood to give the scent some “body”. I love it and will be on my shelf until I die or they stop making it. Of course, like everything else, I wish it lasted longer for projection but sticks to the stick fairly well considering it’s an Eau de Cologne. With that in mind, it does fairly well for longevity. I’m in my upper 40’s so this may hit me more than some youngsters out there. This isn’t going to be your spicy vanilla patchouli bomb. But would encourage anyone to try out a sample with an open mind on what cologne can ALSO be about. Fresh, bright, and clean.

Bought a 1.5ml sample of ADP Colonia admittedly due to Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Cary Grant knew class and elegance, and I heard how light and fresh smelling this is. Sprayed some on my wrist and WOW! Exceeded expectations. Fresh hit of citrus, but not overpowering. Very natural and clean. Hint of soap. Hint of lavender, but not overly powdery. As it dried down, more floral, spice, and wood notes come out, but again, very tasteful and not overpowering. Not a brash LOOK AT ME fragrance, but more of man that guy (or girl) smells naturally good and has things together. Ended up spraying it on my neck and other wrist as well. I want to smell like this every day and will order the 100ml bottle. Had 2 men and 1 woman all ask what it was and that they want to smell like that. Definitely unisex and stands out from most colognes and perfumes.

I discovered Acqua di Parma when staying at a beautiful 5 star hotel in Rome that had ADP toiletries. When I got home I ordered the full suite of ADP Colonia products (shower gel, soap, shaving cream, aftershave splash, aftershave balm, eau de cologne) as they are so beautiful. The soaps are some some of the finest quality as well as being infused with the stunning, timeless colonia fragrance. The citrus that dominates Colonia is rich and full, whilst remaining light and airy. It is natural and never has any "chemical" smell. As clichéd as it might sound; the smell transports you to an Italian spring day strolling amongst the citrus trees of Tuscany or Sicily. Often I favour heavier fragrances, but when I want that Spring/Summer citrusy fresh smell Acqua Di Parma is the king and I fall in love with it every time I use it.

Timeless yet nostalgic. I usually reserve it for when I first awake on summer mornings and it brings a smile to my face every time. There's enough structure underpinning the citrus opening for it to function as a good summer daytime EDC but for me this is better fit for weekend a.m. errands and work around the yard stuff. This interpretation is most likely due to the memories anchored by this scent of my late grandfather and the countless mornings I would wake up after spending the night at their house. Maybe it's for those memories as he was a large influence in my life, but I keep an extra bottle on hand at all times. Some will find it dated, but one man's "dated" is another man's "timeless," and I find the former lot to embrace a far more ephemeral nature to their existence than those in the latter camp.

For those who might be looking for an affordable scent like this, the Pirüpak kolonya from the Turkish cologne line sold at Paşabahçe is an exact replica of this (but has no staying power). I don’t understand why this is rated so high as a men’s cologne. It might be cultural, but to my Mediterrenean nose, this is a perfectly gender neutral, in fact even feminine scent, one that encapsulates the spirit of Artemis and the nature she reigns over. This fragrance conjures up a lot of imagery around the goddess of hunt for me in her maiden form, of Mediterrenean summers, and of forests that start right where the clearest, bluest waters end. Floating on the water under the radiant sun, the forest rewards you with a mix of aromatic plants and pines, and endemic cedar trees. One of my all time favorites.

Colonia, a formula almost 110 years old, still thrives and survives in today’s market of diabetic, sugary gourmands and amberwood explosions. A composition so simple, yet elegant and effortlessly classy, sometimes you just can’t beat it. It’s your classic eau de cologne; pronounced lemon and verbena, a plush cushioned lavender, and a soft bitter herbaceousness. As it settles, the green-woody facets are balanced beautifully by clean white florals and soft musks: heaven. There are few eau de colognes that sit atop as the best of all time - a good few from Guerlain, one from Chanel and so on, I truly believe this sits amongst them as the best of the best. A must-have in my eyes, and I hope to own it soon.

Natural, sparkling, effervescent crystalline honesty, and an historic masterpiece. A sparkling sunlit canopy of Sicilian lemon, Calabrian bergamot, sweet orange. A dry, aromatic, shaded path through the Italian countryside, with trails of lavender, lemon verbena and a hint of rosemary warmed by the summer. A whispering base of vetiver and sandalwood and Bulgarian rose. Authentic, old-world olfactory art—like stepping back in time. Really old-fashioned; but I'm old-school that way. Summertime staple, but honestly I wear it all year round for an effervescent boost, and I spray it on my handkerchiefs too. For me, none of the modern flankers even come close; the O.G. is the best! Love it.

Instant love for me. When I first smelled this, a light bulb clicked on. Ah HA! Memories I didn't even know I had came rushing back as if from another life, another time. The perfect golden soapy scent. That opening though... to die for. Citrus and neroli lovers delight. Turns more masculine and powdery as it dries down. Impossible to over spray due to the quality of ingredients. Any age, any attire, any occasion. It has been around for so long for a reason. I wore this in the high heat at the lake for a month last summer. It will forever remind me of sparkling waters, shade trees, and the cooling breeze. So refreshing. 11/10 would bang again and again!

This is of course an absolute icon. I cannot think of a better hot weather scent, and living in Southern California, we have a lot of hot weather. Such a natural citrus blast on the first sprays, I wish that note would last forever. Sadly as with most citrus scents, it fades quickly. The clean patchouli, lavender and sandalwood anchor the citrus to keep this as a nice skin scent for a few hours, though I do have to spray very liberally to get any more than about three hours. Spraying under the shirt helps a bit. Anytime I move I get the soft, beautiful aroma of this classic. Pure happiness to use this in the summer.

The first 30 minutes with Acqua di Parma Colonia are magical. To me, it's a soft, round, creamy lemon. What a lovely fragrance with regrettable longevity; you'll want to carry a decant to reapply. I make sure to spray my suit coat as well as my skin; the fragrance lasts a bit longer that way. It's most suitable in the middle of summer and during the day. It's the perfect thing to apply after you've showered and dressed at the gym, you're going to smell like old money on the way out to the car. There's not a hint of cleaning products, no bitterness...just creamy goodness.

You won't convince me that you're seriously involved with men's fragrances if you haven't a bottle of Colonia on your shelf. I will never be without it. I buy it in the 180ml size whenever I see it on offer. Classic. Fresh. Clean. Versatile. From a floral print tie and a summer suit at a wedding or a symphonic concert at an idyllic summer music shed to a tee shirt and shorts or jeans at a summer outing or a ball game, Colonia completes any outfit. Accept no substitutes. Get yourself a naggin of Colonia. It'll make you happy. Even the yellow box will sweeten your day.

Classy citrus, floral, musk with a creamy, soft and warm depth to it. Beautiful, and actually very reminiscent of parts of Old Spice, and also parts of Caswell-Massey’s Jockey Club. Only a few notes in common on here(but maybe much more since ingredients obviously aren’t all listed here), but the nose knows. I’ll enjoy wearing this cologne a lot. Atomizer gives a generous blast of fragrance. Citrus top notes fade within 15 minutes or less as in all perfumes, but it stays on skin for 10-12 hour's, clothes longer. It’s a very pleasant dry down. Nostalgic.

This smells really good. Very citrus forward and fresh. It is an EDC and the longevity is super duper weak. It's been an hour and I can smell it, but it seems to really fade after that. I really wish someone can do a lenon citrus like this but make it very long lasting. Noted it is the first ADP and is still on the market. Over the years the laws change with what is allowed in a fragrance for health and safety purposes, but surely they could figure something out. I guess it would necessarily need to be more oily, but it would not project well if it was.

I love it! Was bought a bottle about 15 years ago, there were bits of it I liked but it just felt too mature for me at the time. I ended up giving it away. Fool! I “get” it now, and don’t go many days without wearing it throughout the year. Of course it shines in the summer but there’s so much more to it than being just a citrus spritz! The sandalwood and vetiver keep it the right side of freshie for my tastes. I get wafts of it throughout the day but it does not over power even when reapplied. One of the few bottles I keep repurchasing! Fantastico

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Timeless, classic, well balanced, fresh, citrusy, soapy, clean scent. This stuff is pure class. Smells evoke the feeling of being on the Italian coast, walking along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, while wearing your best, and most stylish Italian linens. Definitely leans more mature and not sure if it is for the younger crowd. There is a reason this has been popular with refined fragrance aficionados since 1916. And if you're wondering... the answer is yes. This does consistently pull compliments.

The first time I smelled this, I had an instant recognition. I think the reason is, this scent has been around since 1916, and its ‘DNA’ has been used in a lot of products over the decades. However, no facsimile gets the subtleties of this fragrance IMO. It is not a ‘beast’ scent—-which is one reason I like it so much. It does linger for about 4 hours, and while this is not much mentioned in reviews I have seen, there is a distinct subtle but definite rose note in the lingering ‘dry down’ phase. I love this scent especially for spring and fall.

Acqua di Parma Colonia... ...is a classic soft and complex floral citrus fragrance. It is truly a bottled Italian summer. Bright citrus with a soft floral centre with hints of rose and Jasmine and a soft creamy woody soft sandalwood and Amber base. The citrus is part of the whole journey. It is a contemporary, timeless classic that is very well blended. Versace L'homme from 1984 is sharing the citrus but is a lot dirtier due to some animalic barnshed notes. I would describe it as a dirty citrus leather while AdPC is a brighter citrus floral.

I see a lot of reviews about this fragrance saying it is weak and doesn’t last. I am smelling a test strip I sprayed at Dillards today almost 11 hours ago and it smells insane. Amazing. If I can get some hours out of this and will become a skin scent like this test strip smells I would be happy with 6+ hours. I love the way this smells. If enough to spray before dinner & go to a bar then come home and have a girl smell on your neck I would make my signature. Going to try the other versions and probably buy. Any long lasting clones???

This has been my signature scent for years. Huge opening of slightly bitter Italian citrus, settles down to a lovely soapy powder with enough spice and aromatics from the lavender & rosemary to keep it interesting, and some more soapiness and structural support from the sandalwood, and a late showing of rose. It's subtle, and doesn't shout - it's the confidence of old money. Clean, aromatic, but discreet. Think white linen shirts, coastal retreats, al fresco dining, a soapy shower on a hot summer's evening.

A true classic, and smarter people have said a lot of great things about Colonia before me. I just want to add that I use this often as a base scent on days I plan to move to Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino later on. Since it doesn't last extremely long and it works wonderfully with TFNP, I have no issues switching back and forth according to what I have planned for the next 2 to 3 hours. A fragrance that truly shines on an italian summer day - it's very refreshing.

This is a classic. When I was young I always went to see mob movies. Italian gangsters. I always imagined they smelled exactly like this. Everyone in the movie Godfather smells like this. Even the kids, grandmothers, horsehead. Everyone. I bought a bottle of Ferragamo Colonia. It is not the classic, but it is a pretty close scent. So if you are on a budget, but want to smell like a mobster. You can buy that one too.

I was considering all the citrus fragrances the same till i stumbled upon Colonia Futura. It is my favorite for hot summer because it smells so rich and natural. Then a few more citrus fragrances i can say the original colonia is atemporal, sophisticated and complex. I dont know how to describe the nuances yet but it is growing so much on me. I am glad finding others sharing the same idea.

Ahhhhh.....this is a bracing, refreshing lemon and bergamot followed by a fresh herbal heart and citrus-soapy dry down (reminds me of original Ivory soap). Fresh, crisp and clean. Legend of a fragrance that I absolutely love for spring and summer. There's a reason this has been around for over a century. Tip: Layer with Molecule 02 for increased performance. They go together VERY well!

Classy, but not buttoned up. Sophisticated, but not stuck up. Clean, but not sterilized. Effortless, but memorable. It is weak, but oh, that glorious soapy clean musk + rustic citrus + aromatic chic lavender and rosemary combination is enough to leave an impression for the whole day. I get whiffs of this all day and when I move it does project. Italian class at its finest IMHO.

It's super nice with a beautiful lemon drying into a Bulgarian rose - lavender combination that is fantastic and dries down into very faint oak moss. Performance is poor, and committing to this is committing to decanting it into atomiser for resprays. It's priced too high however, so if you can find a reliable discounter it will be worth it. Retail prices are not worth paying.

I don't know how much this was reformulated since its creation, but the current formulation smells just perfect. It's opens with a insanely good and invigorating blast of citrus that gets more and more floral as times passes by. For me, it is completely unisex. I have surprisingly good longevity on my skin and it also projects very well for 2 or 3 hours. A must have!

Classic. This will never go out out style. Fresh citrus and light, dries down to where some lavender and verbena shows. Very versatile, can wear just about anywhere. Not a statement scent, but a complement to your ensemble. Daytime. Especially lends itself to classic mens wear. Think Cary Grant in 'To Catch a Thief' with Grace Kelly. What's not to like?.

This is such an amazing fragrance, and remains my top 5 ever. It's rather simple, with the primary notes being citrus and spice, but works really well. The citrus makes this appealing as an everyday and casual scent, while the spice works well enough to make it smell sophisticated. Truly a remarkable scent to be worn during the warmer months.

One word to describe this is "Timeless". An Old Classic Summer Day Time Clean Juicy Aromatic Citrus cologne, it smells like mature old money scent . The silliage ok in the first hour and it dissipates to a skin scent for 2-3 hours. Eventhough i am still teenager, i am suprise i actually enjoy the quality of this scent. Overall 7.75/10

I see so little people talking about this despite having over 2500 votes. This is an amazing soapy barbershop scent that isn't too heavy on the lavender. Someone says this smelled like Creed viking which makes absolutely no sense to me. Colonia doesn't smell vintage and outdated, unlike viking.

After sampling hundreds and buying dozens of fragrances, ADP colonia is my favourite, Always puts me in a great mood, This is a fragrance that will instantly make you feel rich, clean, and fresh, classy and timeless. many have tried to make similar dna frags but none comes close to ADP colonia

The classic cologne, the classic barbershop. Easy, simple, and timeless. I've used up multiple bottles of this because of how effortless it is to wear. You can never go wrong with it on a spring or summer day. I wish it lasted longer, but them's the breaks with these types unfortunately.

Timeless, refined all-year round scent. I'd dare to say that this is THE cologne. Perfectly unisex too, great sillage and lasting power. It smells really fresh and dewy one my boyfriend, while on me it leans more on the sweeter side. Can't go wrong with such a well rounded classic.

Amazing citrus openings are a dime a dozen. It is far more difficult to find a fragrance that presents a smooth transition into a well-composed dry down like Colonia does. This is classic perfumery - nothing dated here. For those who value beautiful composition over performance.

I can't believe how beautiful this is. It's old school...yet smells very modern. Citrus opening, but let it dry down for the magic to begin. Soft lavender with the citrus airyness lingering. This has a very similar dry down to Eau Sauvage (1966) which I already love any way.

Fresh, zesty, invigorating. It's a pinnacle of men's summer colognes and truly a timeless scent. If you don't want to splurge on the real deal but try something similar, Ferragamo's Acqua Essenziale Colonia comes pretty close in the opening but dries a bit differently.

Perfect Cologne, I would rather men smelled like that. Not that I wouldn't wear it myself but I do associate it with the male fragrance market. But instead of being overly aftershavy and crass like most men's perfumes, this is well rounded, elegant and doesn't scream.
