Acqua di Parma Profumo 2008

I got curious about this fragrance simply because of the cost. I was lucky enough to find a gorgeous mini online and... I really didn't think I was going to like it. The first time I tried it my initial impression was, "Gah! That's strong!" and I was afraid it would give me a headache. However, I was really busy that day and must have washed my hands up to my elbows 10 times or more and guess what? The scent was still there. Since this is almost a miracle when it happens to me, I decided that I had to give Profumo a second chance. I'm so glad I did! Once it settles into my skin it's such a soft, classy, warm and feminine scent. It reminds me of 50's glamour and an age when women wore dresses and heels daily. I can definitely see myself investing in a large bottle of this in the near future.

What a lovely fragrance. Kinda old fashioned with its floral, slightly powdery notes but absolutely very feminine and classy. I don't smell too much bergamot or anything sharp and didn't find the drydown too woody. But that could just be how the scent works with my body chemistry. Really worth trying. Too bad it's so outrageously expensive.

Nothing short of perfection. Happy to add it into my collection. Such stunning honey laced with labdanum.

To me the amber is the dominant note here. Unfortunately not all amber based fragrances smell good on me! I agree that it's from the same family as mitsouko etc. Classy old school you can say.

This smells like class, luxury and elegance. It's a truly stunning chypre, oozing with old school opulence. I'm usually the first to complain about crazy expensive perfumes, but this one is worth the money. Maybe it's just me, but I find that the chypre label is becoming like the oriental label - perfumes are calling themselves that but not really being true to the genre. This one is a true chypre and I appreciate that. This opens as a powdery, citrussey, jasmine and rose. The citrus doesn't last all that long and then it becomes all floral. The rose is restrained and dry, but still lush. The jasmine is such high quality. There isn't the slightest whiff of anything synthetic here. The dry down becomes a little woody, a bit sharper than the powdery and ultra feminine florals that precede it. The moss is gorgeous, so rich and earthy. It finally becomes musky, but in a very feminine way. This is old school movie stars holidaying on the Riviera, dripping in jewels and arranging secret trysts away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. If this perfume was a movie, it would be To Catch A Thief. Grace Kelly would have loved it. It's got moderate sillage and the longevity is stellar. I put this on in the morning, showered later at night and could still smell it on me when I got into bed.

I tested this yesterday, but I'm not sure if it was the new Profumo or the old one. Probably the new one. I really like it! It's a complex, sophisticated, extremely rich refined scent! It may suit old fashioned tastes or a need for a deluxe night out! It's warm, multi-layered fragrance with many nuances and a strong woody full body drydown. Very classy and suitable for a grand dame or a grand dame at heart! Well, nothing forbid to wear it everyday, but the price is just crazy for my budget! For sure you get lot of kickback for your money. It is long lasting, with good sillage and always changing on skin as old perfumes used to be. The florals are mingled together and the drydown is rich in oakmoss. Absolutely a beautiful complex chypre that many would tell suitable for mature elegant ladies not under 35. Anyway the choice is left to personal tastes.

A truly wonderful scent, the price is justified and money is well spent when you get so much in return. Better just one bottle of magnificence than a thousand bottles of mediocrity. This is what I said to myself to stop my credit card guilty feelings. The scent is wonderful as I said, it comes from an age when scents were made with passion, dedication and art. Wearing it today is a hommage to good taste and the hope it has not completely gone lost. In certain moments it reminds of Mitsouko, maybe only for being a chypre but I would also add also for being a masterpiece that stands the passing of time without wrinkles on skin. Buy it if you like lovely scents that lasts a lot, if you like wearing something special, if you despise those modern scents which smell all the same.

Very exotic aroma. The simplified description of the predominant chord in the opening is rubberized and very dated deodorant. This awful strong opening lasts for seconds though. The relief comes quickly with a very smoky, powdery, leathered and rubbery chord, aided by a very loud, strict and carnal floral chord: this pair delivers a mature and dirty leathered-floral aroma - comes to mind brothel or mature luxury prostitutes. I don't recommend interpreting my review as negative, because I really liked it, I just think it's too challenging for very young man or women. Very restricted versatility: nocturnal occasions that provide the necessary freedom to use something so challenging. Very high performance, near beast mode.

QUESTION : how can this one be similar to the other one ,with violets ,as this one does not have violet in its formula ??? Can anyone explain how come they are valued as being similar ? Looking left and right for infos about Acqua di Parma creates only confusion.Looking at the notes and at reminds me of ,the confusion will only be greater. A reminds of B and C. But B does not remind of C,only of A , and so on :-))))))))))) Looks like they make it on purpose to confuse the buyers. Have already encountered the scheme in other brands .

Juzme, a fragrance doesn't have to have every single note as another to be similar. That is why it is "similar" and not "exact". Plus, not every note is listed on Fragrantica or even in the brand description on their own website. They mention key notes and that's all. This isn't some scheme against consumers, AdP reformulated Profumo to make it a little brighter and fresher and therefore a little more modern. I own both fragrances and they are for certain similar, but different enough to where I still wanted to own both.
