Buongiorno Dolce Far Niente

So ridiculously, this was the scent I was least interested in smelling from the notes, and then of course it turned out to be the one that made me go OH, MY GOD. Its pyramid may seem boring, but on skin those notes really do paint a full fledged scenery. What struck me most was this starchy rice-like smell that absolutely should not have made sense from reading the note pyramid, but there it was plain as day. Unlike the toasted basmati typical rice-scents sport, this is way softer, slightly stickier, and even a little sweeter. It's actually very glutinous and warm! Almost like a pale sweet treat wrapped in leaves, those delectable clouds of steam catching in citrus light. I get the fig wood note quite strongly too, diffused by airy hedione and smooth musks. There is a touch of coconut to my nose, like coconut husks and green wood in the open air. Very subtle. Very weirdly addictive. It deviates a fair bit away from your typical Italian citrus cologne and is more like some elegant in-between thing. You've citrus and bark and cool floral light alright, but also comforting humid starch and milky musk. Funnily enough, I actually get Orphéon EDT vibes, despite this fragrance being comparatively much less sharp. It's not because they smell the same but because both master a spectacular harmony between citrus-polished greenness, and cozy rounded haziness. Scents that evoke an aura rather than simple perfume. It is so hard to explain this properly! You really do have to smell it in person. It has that expensive trick where it has you rather aware of what you’re smelling, but not quite aware of how it is making that effect. Very evocative. An instant buy if not for the pricing so steep it almost makes me want to bite someone.

People say they can smell CEMENT?? What cement?? I smell citrus and vanilla. I’m super surprised there is no vanilla in the notes but that is what i’m getting. Maybe I can smell even rice that people are mentioning, but CEMENT?? No. It is a nice scent, fresh and a bit sweet which is so weird since it is supposed to be green and citrusy. No detergent-like scent. It is weak though, you have to re-apply. All in all, i like it.

I just tried this as part of my sampling set and frankly it’s not very pleasant. I get all of the weird cement vibes. I’m a big fan of AdP but it is not worthy of the name. Who thought this was a good idea?

Sorry people but: Cement + rice = not very nice And as a massive AdP fan it hurts to post this. But - there are better highlights in the new Buongiorno range...

It definitely smells like citrus and wood, but there is also a cement-like smell coming up. And along with that "stale" smell of rice stored improperly, and the distinctive spoiled odor of rancid oil.
