Buongiorno Gioco del Destino

I tested this at the airport. When I smelled a smokiness to it I got excited, maybe because of the wheat note, but then it turned to be just a sweet citrus. I wish they leaned on the wheat and added something with more body to it to give it more of an interesting smell (especially for the price). If it was cheaper, it would be a good clean everyday scent.

As a public service, I went back to the sampling collection to re-try this one - and was left genuinely puzzled. It has a weird synthetic fruit vibe. If this is supposed to be someone’s destiny, I’m worried for them! There are so many more delightful fragrances in the AdP range.

I don’t get Buongiorno Gioco del Destino - it’s just not that nice. Feels very synthetic and not AdP. Will try again tomorrow to reassess...

This smells like dry lime-zested wheat rubbed between the fingers, then blurring as you lather your palms up with generic hotel lotion. It's sweet, citrusy and musky with that tiny touch of bran, but maybe a touch fabricated. Granted, I get what they were going for. The citrus energises, bright, tart and a little prickly, while the wheat absolute gives that a warm dryness underneath. There is something pleasantly rustic about it, toasted and faintly agrarian, but the composition lands as a bit meh to me. I suppose what I get here is not lush citrus in any recognisable, lovable form: not juice, not pulp, not even a bitter spray of rind so much as a vague yellow-green sourness hovering over the composition. This might give it enough energy but, well, really not that much charm. Offering merely acidity, it's neither vivid, fragrant, nor alive. Perhaps they also weren't sufficiently heavy-handed on the wheat! Instead of a true neo-gourmand tension between tart zest and sun-warmed edible cereal, the scent is simply not quite deliberate, textural and husky enough. For the scent to hit, they'd need to either push the wheat until it becomes properly dusty or tasty or savoury, OR make the citrus more radiant and persuasive. As it is, both sides feel withheld. The tang energises the dryness certainly, but does not redeem it. And the toasted aspect gives a dry cast without ever becoming delicious or truly atmospheric. The concept here is, sadly, much more compelling than the actual smell itself. A potential curiously unfulfilled.

Well, unless the clerk lied to me, Dolce Far Niente actually smells like wheat. It seems like they were trying to capture the sweet scent of alcohol made from such grains, rather than a mix of powdery and grainy notes like wheat. I'm not sure if the scent itself is good or bad. I just think, "Oh, so this is what it smells like."
