Do not for one second pass up my review for this reason because this is my true review and it’s worth reading! First impressions? This fragrance is luxury in a bottle. I have to say, I’m completely in love with Acqua Di Parma Zafferano Ambrosia. The more I wear it, the more I appreciate it. I like that it sits perfectly in that 'unisex' space that anyone could wear and make it their own. I actually received this as part of an educational promotion, BUT, I will be very honest with my review, and NO it is not AI. The longevity honestly blew me away. On my skin, it lasts over 12 hours, which is kind of amazing! I’ll put it on earlier in the day and still catch little hints of it at night, especially if I spray it in my hair or on my clothes. It’s not one of those scents that disappears after a few hours, it really sticks around and evolves in a beautiful way. It’s definitely on the stronger side, though, so I’ve learned pretty quickly that a little goes a long way. Just a couple sprays is more than enough. I actually like that about it, because it feels a bit more intentional, like you don’t need to overspray it to make an impression. The opening is gorrrrrrrgeous! Right away, I get this really bright mandarin note that feels fresh and juicy. Then the ginger kicks in, and together they almost remind me of neroli. Sounds crazy, I know, but there’s something about that mix that feels slightly floral, a little zesty, and really uplifting. It’s a beautiful first impression and honestly kind of addictive. Not long after, I start to notice the saffron and patchouli coming through. They’re pretty prominent on me and give the fragrance this warm, slightly earthiness vibe. The saffron adds this richness that makes the whole scent feel luxurious. The patchouli helps ground it so it doesn’t feel too airy. I’ve been wearing it in cooler weather, around 45 degrees, and it really shines in that kind of temperature. The crisp air seems to make the citrus pop while still letting the warmer notes come through. It feels perfect for this time of year (early spring in NYC). That said, I’m really curious to see how it performs in the summer. I have a feeling the mandarin and ginger might feel even brighter and more refreshing in the heat, so I’m excited to try it out when the weather warms up!! Overall, I freakin' love this scent. Let me start by saying that Acqua di Parma’s latest offering – Zafferano Ambrosia Extrait de Parfum – has the greatest sillage I’ve experienced in quite a while. Most fragrances of late lean toward minimal or intimate projection, which is absolutely fine unless your goal is to be noticed by those around you. I wanted to experience Zafferano Ambrosia because of the higher concentration of perfume oil (a whopping 30%). I’ve written extensively for an Italian beauty brand and have grown to appreciate Calabrian Bergamot as a top note in fragrance, so Zafferano Ambrosia appealed to me on many levels. To be cautious, the first time I wore it I sprayed it from 6–8 inches away from my forearm right after showering. I was immediately struck by its intensity and waited 10 minutes before leaning in to catch my first whiff. It was quite spicy initially and hot to my nose (a phrase I use to emphasize alcohol among the top notes). An hour later, I checked it again and was pleasantly surprised that the sweeter notes had begun to shine through. The jasmine and orange flower softened the spice, and the scent took on a distinct floral note. I detected a hint of patchouli and waited for the full base notes to kick in. Two hours later – yes, really – the “ambrosia effect” came full circle. The spice was no longer evident, but an elegant sweetness lingered just near my wrist. Clearly, this has real staying power, but what interested me most was the way it matured over the course of hours. Even though I spent the entire morning at my desk, I could always smell some of its notes without seeking it out. That’s rare in my experience. Closing Thoughts: In today’s market, premium perfumes come with a premium price tag. In this case, the price truly reflects the quality of the fragrance inside. This Extrait de Parfum has wonderful intensity and longevity, so you’ll use less, and it will last longer. As a whole, the fragrance runs quite warm, so its intensity is best appreciated in cooler climes during autumn or winter. This scent exceeded my expectations! At first wear I thought it was great, but the dry down and way it lingers/changes over time is really interesting, and each different phase gave another positive experience. It's mature, yet modern, and I feel the only season it doesn't really fit into is summer, because it is a bit warmer on first application. BUT here's the catch, the dry down is pretty sweet/fruity, so it could work for summer... The first application is interesting, but after a few wears I realized that this is a YES from me! The longevity is strong and reasonably decreases throughout the day. I get notes of amber/leather/floral right away, and then after a bit, it evolves to a citrus/sweet for me. The projection complements its longevity: stronger at first -> still solid but softer throughout the day. It lingers for me well into the 8-12th hour mark. I'm slightly torn on specific events to wear this for, but its the type of scent that I don't think you need to overthink it too hard. I wouldn't wear it to the gym or anything where I'd be in close quarters to someone... So specifically an airplane. Dinner, a date, the office, a work event, or a birthday/wedding party... all of these would be appropriate. This is a gender-neutral fragrance, in my honest opinion; however, I'm pretty liberal with that term. I could see how it may lean more feminine. With the right styling and environment, this could be a masculine scent, too. I highly recommend trying it! I'm surprised at how much I love it -- I received it as an educational experience product, which I'm grateful for! I'd give this an 8.5/10!
