Agua Fresca Vetiver

Ramon Monegal is the nose behind this and nearly all the Adolfo Dominguez fragrances. To be honest, I am not familiar with him and his family’s long tradition of perfumery, as most of his creations by him are for his own niche collection or Spanish brands unknown to me. Agua Fresca Vetiver captures the core values of elegance and strength; courtesy of a reinterpretation of the exquisite scent of the vetiver root. The ingredient in this composition has been well worked, not too earthy, not too grassy, and not too soapy. I feel a charming note, an essence that brings freshness, elegance and herbal nuances that draw attention. If you think it’s one of the many copies of famous vetivers, for example Vetiver EAU DE TOILETTE or Grey Vetiver EAU DE TOILETTE, well, you’re wrong; apart from the name, it has almost nothing in common with them. Similar to Encre Noire Sport? Not at all, but never in your wildest dream. The dark, inky root mark is totally absent here. Instead, Bright Neroli is more about notes of neroli and vetiver is just a whiff. Aromatic and slightly metallic nuances open the dance. The composition looks lemony, soapy and clean right from the start. There is something smooth, delicate, and silky despite all the dark to intense base notes. Citrus peel oils are noticeable, yet light and comfortable, with a lemon twist. In the air, I can breathe the notes of damp foliage during a late autumn day. Someone rightly says those of humus. I like this juxtaposition between soapy, clean accords and earthy, dirty accords. That's a very good start. Once the citric component has weakened, a soapy and clean accord expands thanks to orange blossom and neroli supported by a vetiver background. I get this soft and soapy, refreshing vibe that extends throughout the duration of the essence. The opening aromatic notes magically blend with the herbaceous essences of lavender and unripe rhubarb. The latter is not dominant, certainly not invasive like in Zara Emotions N°09 - Jo's Rhubarb or Rabarbaro that I got to wear and review. In the heart, neroli is the primary actor, and blends perfectly with green vetiver. I receive obvious notes of citrus white flowers, while I hardly hear those of jasmine or lily. As the dry-down approaches, the animalic and slightly filthy notes of the oakmoss come out, which is not mentioned but can be perceived close to the skin. I get that smell of green moss that forms in shady, humid areas. Perhaps I also catch the patchouli leaves, which add further dirtiness and a veil of sweetness. Alas, the leathery accord and the salty side of the amber are a little dull on my skin, a little obscured by the vetiver and neroli masters. It is a different interpretation from the classic vetiver; here it appears soapy, flowery, very aromatic, with woody and herbaceous features. It’s a pity that they are going to discontinue it in favour of the new Vetiver Terra, which is another story. Ideal to use on a dayly basis, even to go out to dinner or on an elegant date. It is appropriate for the warmer months of the seasons, ranging from spring through autumn. It is a perfume that seems strong at first, but soon becomes a skin perfume. I would therefore say that it has a moderate projection and duration, and after half a day, it needs to be applied again. Like all the other perfumes in the Agua Fresca collection, this one too was a pleasant surprise, with no disappointments or disapprovals. It doesn’t matter if it’s a little weak, its price is not exorbitant and you can spray it profusely without breaking the bank. I'm formulating my thoughts on a bottle I've owned since July 2018.

Long story short, my mom told me how 30 years ago my dad bought Agua Fresca and women were literally stalking and harassing him to get the name of the fragance. Needless to say it is the first fragance I got. At first I was disapointed because it opens as little more than a very good soap, and I was quite the novice. But oh my god did I quickly understood what is it about. After the 40 min mark the fragance has cooked in your skin, the vetiver and woody make their entrance, and becomes an absolutely melting aroma of sheer sensuality. Elegant as can be. One of the other comments below nails it, becomes not a fragance but a delicious smell. It can completely pass as if it were your natural aroma. Of course there is great elegance and soothing impression in it, but to be 100% honest it is sheer overwhelming sensuality. Its literally only con would be its sillage since it is moderate at best. But it doesn't matter. This isn't the fragance you use to shock the whole room, it is the one you use to completely melt your intimate partner away. Can be described as a perfected human natural aroma. For the same reason might also work for some women but I would say it is mostly masculine in a subtle way.

I Remember way back 50+ years ago when i was about 8 years old, we used to make the long treck down to a camp site on the Costa Brava in a small fishing village called La Fosca. The Camp site manager was called Miguel and he used to wash every morning in the cold water where the pots and pans used to be cleaned. I always had the breakfast stuff to wash up and i remember this fantastic smell that would permiate the wash area after he had shaved. to this day i never forgot it and to be honest i never smelled it again until a couple of years ago when i blind bought Aqua Fresca Vetiver, and there it was i was so very happy to smell this again after all this time, clearly it wasnt Adolfo Domingues but what i had never forgotten was the smell that i now know is Neroli. I can easily say that this fragrance can be worn all year round. its uplifting and will brighten anyones day. I also own Neroli Intense and Bight Neroli. both very similar to each other but i think Aqua Fresca Vetiver has the edge because of the equaly Prominent earthy Vetiver note. All year round use but really shines in hot sunny weather

More proof that niche doesn't necessarily mean better or even higher quality. This is a very fine, refreshing, earthy and floral take on vetiver. Real effort was put into this beauty. The first blast is all about crushed neroli petals, gently squeezed bergamot, mandarin peel strips, and freshly pulled rhubarb stalks. The vetiver is clean but earthy and moist with hints of subtle smoke coming from a combination of cloves and soil tincture. The dry down is smooth as butter as lavender takes over the composition, and maneuvers the scent towards fougere territory. A gorgeous scent that unfortunately, suffers from fleeting performance the same way the original Agua Fresca does.

There are many fragrances in this scent profile: the neroli-vetiver combination, that is, but few if any are superior to this one. The balance between the two main notes is perfect, not too soapy, not too grassy or earthy. It just smells clean and gentlemanly without some of the nagging old tropes that might remind some of some past relic granddad wore. However, granddads and grandsons alike will feel optimistically dignified wearing this beautiful timeless scent. Being generous with sprays gives good longevity for a fresh scent.

This is an amazingly long-lasting neroli-forward fragrance, with vetiver back up. The neroli is as you would find in TF Neroli Portofino. The vetiver is an echo of Encre Noire. Neroli fragrances, or summer colognes, are often terrible performers, but I put this on yesterday evening, and could smell it in the shower this morning. Remarkable. It's a great summer fragrance - but it makes me look forward to trying it in autumn/winter, to see if the vetiver can carry it...

Agua Fresca Vetiver by Adolfo Dominguez is a woody, fresh and aromatic fragrance. The output is slightly citrus, but with persistent vetiver from the first application.During the first minutes its aroma feels a bit ripe, but with the passage of minutes it becomes softer and more wearable for almost any age. The aroma is very pleasant and is relatively affordable. I recommend it to vetiver lovers. Its duration was about 6 to 7 hours, with medium projection.

If you love Original Vetiver without its outrageous expensiveness, this is closer to it more than most of the choices out there, including the former beloved Eau Cologne by Thierry Mugler, several times reformulated. A clean, fresh, manly vetiver for just 30-35 bucks 200ml. A bargain. with the sign of Ramon Monegal, one of the best Spanish atelier.

I actually blind bought this after reading Social Assassin's review below and he was 100% correct in his assessment and description!!! Agua Fresca Vetiver is amazing and is extremely inexpensive!!! If you want a clean, neroli, soapy, citrus, grassy and woody vetiver then grab this fragrance and you will love it!!!

This is just a fantastic fragrance. Its fresh, mature, formal, informal, unoffensive, unannoying, uplifting and relaxing.. Im note the greatest note cracker, but immeadeately the wood is there and the vetiver makes a great drydown. This would do as a one-frag collection with a freshie on the side :)

Very refreshing and uplifting smells very nice. signature scent worthy. I can spray to my heart will, it never overwhelms me and the price is really cheap. Definitely a fantastic frangrance.

The scent is really beautiful. BUT it does not project! Does not last. It smells delicious. A concentrated smell of new tenis balls poped up open from the can.

I love vetiver! This will always be in my top 5 for life.

AFV is much better than its counterpart Agua Fresca Extreme. It’s sort of a soft, linear mix of citruses, neroli, vetiver and rhubarb. The vetiver starts out with a pretty decent intensity, nothing that’s too strong. I find that it’s primarily paired with the rhubarb in terms of what I notice most. I’ve only smelled rhubarb a couple of times and this is the most I’ve liked the note. But, I’m not overall familiar with it enough to say how well it is in and of itself. The neroli also adds a pleasant, but noticeable softness. Everything sort of dries down over time and at the end of the day it seems like I get some lavender and wood notes. A sort of velvet or silky feel is a nice summation to this scent. I will definitely give this one a try sometime. It’s perfect for wear in many situations for most seasons, I’d say.

Cloudy sky, maybe after rain, lots of trees and....green. But you're inside a luxurious hut or something, in the middle of the woods. Vetiver punch on this one, but not of the "dirty" type. Instead you get this soft and soapy, refreshing vibe that extends throughout the duration of the frag. Neroli is a major contributor here to the feel, and that combo is very, very good. If this lasted longer, it would be a gem-pick for Vetiver lovers. But for the price, you should definetly check this out anyway!

A very pleasant scent. Certainly reminds me of the certain scent I used to smell whenever I board a Thai Airways International plane decades ago. Scents do actually bring back memories. This is a sweet refreshing scent I will certainly enjoy.

I love vetiver. Agua Fresca Vetiver from Adolfo Dominguez is a vetiver-centered EdT that allows vetiver to shine! I really like it. I do wish it lasts longer, but for the price it is a good buy!

Appears to be discontinued? Anyone heard anything? I bought my bottle for like $20 bucks a few years ago and now it's pretty rare and I am seeing prices of $80+

Vetiver bomb if you ask me. Opens up bright and fresh from the bergamot (like an eau de cologne style fragrance) but after 10mins you get a dirty vetiver mixed with strong neroli and an slight orangy background. Not bad if you like perfumes like Guerlain Vetiver, this is in the same ball park and muuch cheaper. Projection and longevity could be better.

I found it at USD11 in a local discounter in my country, and blind bought the whole line (Agua Fresca, Agua Fresca Citrus Cedro, Agua Fresca Vetiver). While the original Agua Fresca is a great fragrance, I deeply disliked the Vetiver variant, and my wife has asked me to avoid wearing it when she's present. After reading that more than 60 reviewers gave this fragrance a very high note, all I can say is: Don ́t blind buy this fragrance!

Sucia! The neroli is even dirtier than Jeanne en Provence's Neroli Intense. Vetiver reminds of ENS. But this is not fresca, but sucia: dirty, earthy vetiver & neroli. It's light so must spray a lot. 2nd wear. Soil tincture. AFV is apparently a rename of another fragrance which has "soil tincture". No wonder it smells dirty. Not sure why I'd ever wear this. Colonia Futura, TdH and ENS are all much better vetivers. Passing this on.

Metallic and smoky vetiver with lavender over a woody base. The composition feels rough and very woody but still maintains a clean scent. I think it’s suitable for daily wear, though honestly, I find it a bit overrated based on its Fragrantica rating.

Not a single bad review. Wow! How often does that happen on Fragrantica? I just looked up his gem and can buy it for 20 Swiss Francs. Looks like I find my new Spring/ Summer vetiver cheapie.

This was originally named Vetiver Hombre by the same house. They are similar but the OG is a beast and extremely natural smelling. Its a must for vetiver addicts.
