Amnesia Rose

so tired of seeing every rose/patchouli chypre being compared to that dull (once was the) Portrait of a lady. Thus is a classic rose chypre, but with the twist of a fizzy champagne accord and a really silky, full blown, red rose. The composition might seem oo straightforward, or not brave enough, but is the quality ingredients and smoothness that really stand out. If you have to compare this perfume to another outstanding rose-centric fragrance, it would be Rose Tonnerre, and none other. Sometimes one just wants to smell a realistic, precious, elegant rose without the background noise of ambers/cloying spices and dumb fruits. Just R O S E. Red, rose.

Amnesia Rose turned out to be a winning rose for me. After growing tired of rose & patchouli pairings and the countless alternatives that circle around a poal-like territory, this one truly stood out. The rose here is noble. Even with saffron, patchouli, and balsamic notes accompanying it, rose remains the dominant force; much like how oceans outweigh continents, it sits above everything else in this composition. It feels exceptionally high-quality, and it even gives me a subtle aquatic impression, as if the rose were adorned with fine dewdrops. Strong yet delicate and gentle. Think of impossibly thin glass layers, rose petals trapped between each one. The same rose repeats endlessly, until translucence slowly thickens and becomes darkness.... The dry down of Amnesia Rose reminds me of Gold Rose Oudh by Tiziana Terenzi, though it leans more demure, soapy and clean on my skin. I like it — it’s an inoffensive rose oud type of perfume, but also quite forgettable. I wonder if that’s why they named it Amnesia Rose? That said, it’s a wearable and likable rose scent, and I’d consider getting a full bottle if I had some disposable cash.

I was kind of excited to smell Amnesia Rose. With a name like that it has to be memorable right? But while I think this is a good unisex rose (depending on taste, I find it leans male) it does fall a bit flat for me. Maybe because I have smelled so many of these pink pepper and patchouli rose perfumes on my fragrance journey. There is nothing new here. It is slightly spicy as in warm/soft spicy, classic rose, warm resins, soft woods and lots of patchouli. Very expensive for what you are getting. I was expecting a bit more smoke, a bit more mystery. But what I got was a typical and quite generic pink pepper, woody, patchouli masculine leaning rose. My husband likes this. Again, it is a nice masculine leaning rose. very classic I was just expecting more of a wow factor.

Starts like many of the rose-oud-patchouli fragrances that are currently on the market, but within about 10 minutes becomes very sheer/muted. I get a decent amount of woods, including something that comes across as a slightly synthetic cedar note. This isn't bad, but given the number of well-done rose-oud-patchoulis that are available, coupled with the price tag, this is a pass. Glad I tried it, I've been curious about this one for a while.
