Copal Azur

Something close to mystical perfection: a truly individual, daringly original take on smoke and incense, for those who want to travel much further in search of enlightenment than the usual pastiche-Catholic or pseudo-Zen schools to be found on the usual "best incenses" lists. New World sacred rites instead - no blood or sacrifice, just wafts of enlightened insight and a genuinely natural feel. This one is dry as a bone, lifted with the tang of salt air, and genuinely built around copal rather than any other resin as its spine. It simply smells of truth - but beautiful rather than ugly. Though wading near to the tropic marine shores of Armani Bleu Turquoise or Zoologist Squid in aura, it has none of their banging black pepper or very present vanilla; this is a more organic, woodier, much more adventurous ride. While it has that special resin tang and less wood, what it comes closest to for me is the (equally rare and exclusive) Wienerblut Ex Voto, another shimmering slip of reverence-worthy delight; or that same hyper-arid feel, from a different continent altogether, of Armani Velvet Incienso, with much less spice and a more minimal aura. So: it more than justifies its existence, takes you higher, and gives new feelings. Absolute love for me: worth worshipping at its altar any time. However: VERY sheer and airy - so much so it'll frustrate if you want robust, room-filling performance, even if it does have a uniquely classy and upscale-savoury feel to it. Like all Aedes products, has a scary price tag and a discreet presence; it's about integrity rather than intensity. Dies back, heartbreakingly, after 2-3 hours on skin, though it'll survive longer on fabrics and sometimes does suddenly waft back from the land of the dead (the great beyond?) when you least expect it. I'll adore it forever, and would buy again in a heartbeat if spotted for less than the cost of a dynastic kingdom. But explore around before you buy; one of its analogues mentioned above might be a more real-world proposition.

Copal Azur is a frag built around the Incense note. Bertrand Duchafour is a Master when it comes to Incense accords as anybody who has sniffed Timbuktu will tell you. Again like Timbuktu, these fragrances have a slight raw, rough edge to the incense and are not sweetened in any way so if you are not an incense lover, definitely sample first. Copal Azur as the notes indicate has the Incense as the spine of the fragrance from top to base notes. Initial notes have a salty vibe to the incense before taking a herbal, spicy turn with the patchouli and cardamom notes in the heart. The myrhh and amber flesh out the fragrance and add a bit of smoky depth but by and large, this composition is linear. Once the top ozonic salt notes fade, this stays a spicy herbal incense for the rest of its scent life. Projection is kinda on the softer side, stays within arms length and longevity likewise is average, around the 5 hour mark. Final Thoughts. This is one of those frags I love for the smell alone. Being a fan of balsamic incenses, this is right up my alley. The performance could have been better but is good enough that it's not a deal breaker. Definitely a large decant or a Full Bottle of this in my future.

Delicious caramelly exotic oriental opening. Spicy - drinking a rootbeer by the seaside. Immediately tones down to an unusual but appealing combination of incense and salt. This is my second Aedes de Venustas fragrance and both share the quality of being surprising, delightful, and luxurious. I just looked at the description and saw Bertrand Duchaufour's name again! Yesterday it was his sublime Timbuktu that I fell in love with. I need to track down more of his creations obviously. When I looked at the notes I thought this was going to be a very warm, winter-y frag but it's incredibly cool. As I keep smelling I get a cool, green, almost watery note. If this is marine it's more like a thirst quenching spring running through the shaded undergrowth of a jungle. This isn't the smell of a temperate forest; the exotic incense keeps it from being familiar. Dries down into a cool, fruity incense reminiscent of Aedes Signature, also by Duchaufour. Has excellent longevity; 7 hours later it's still pretty noticeable. Shangri-la: the hidden paradise nestled in a cool green forest.

Firstly let me not beat around the bush - this is a challenging fragrance. But challenging doesn't mean bad. I know each person has a different way they process fragrances - for me personally it has to tie to or remind me of a mood, an emotion or a memory. For this particular fragrance I needed to read the story of the perfume - the copal and incense, the tie in to a culture of spirituality. And then I got it. It reminded me of the temples here as well... This is a holy perfume. I know I'll be wearing this the next time I go to a temple. And for that I really appreciate it. I will continue to sit with this perfume - it's already grown a lot on me. I hope I can truly and fully appreciate for the art of storytelling it is.. 7/10 for now... to be revised EDIT: This has now become my favorite scent to wear at home - when I'm alone. This is a spiritual fragrance and gives me great peace, creates an almost meditative air. It's wonderful and continuing to grow on me. 8.5/10 .... it's getting up there

What a beauty of an incense centered fragrance! This is supposed to represent the scent of copal by utilising a blend of other incense extracts, which it manages to pull off quite well in my opinion. Bertrand Duchafour seems to be very proficient at creating such scents as this. I use copal myself at home in my incense burner and there is just something so refreshing, relaxing and purifying about this unique material. This perfume is stunning the whole journey through, opening with a sparkling resinous incense note of mainly frankincense, along with a deep green mentholated notes and a zingy pepper profile. The frankincense gives way, melding with the other incense notes, to become a rich balsamic green perfume. This keeps the slightly salty and sparkling effect, along with some fresh cardamom, before drying down to a sweet amber and tonka base. I need to own a bottle of this one, as it's a real delight to wear and a great pick me up.

Is it a smoky aquatic or a salty myrrh scent? Or the fragrance of a luxurious spa? Somehow, it’s all of that – in the best possible way. I came across this scent during my quest for the perfect spring incense and was instantly captivated by its uniqueness. By now, I’ve experienced many incense fragrances: From camphor-like incense à la King Cobra to bright church incense like LAVS, opulent Christmas cinnamon smoke like Notre Dame Notte di Natale, metallic resins like Moon Dust or Craft, and pine-like incense such as La Liturgie des Heures but also the deepest, most sooty smoke Beaufort has to offer. Yet this one fills a niche I hadn’t encountered before. Currently my number one on the wishlist as a fresh, salty spring incense.

a good salty, slightly calone-ey aquatic accord that meets an absolute powerhouse of a frankincense/copal foundation. On my skin the frankincense is the star of the show, and it's flanked by the supporting notes as it progresses. The ocean notes stay for a little bit, but the opening is mostly a deep ambery, sweet and cool smoke. The cardomom shows itself and makes everything a bit spicy and woody down the line. Theres a solid mix and tug-of-war between that obelisk of frankincense, maybe also myrhh, and the brighter, bitter, perhaps cool notes: salt, camphorous patchouli, cool spices that are almost mentholic and refreshing. It really is a great play on this incense/aquatic vibe.

This is pretty much a perfect scent. The drawbacks are the price,originality and the time frame that it came out. This came out a year before ADG Profumo but ADV is not a known house such as Armani. Most niche heads will reference Heeley Sel Marin as their go to salty scent and TBH I do as well. Albeit this is original,the house is not known and the price tag is 3 or 4x as much as the Armani and pretty much gives the same effect. Salty.aquatic with some incense. This has more spices than the Armani flanker but it just does not warrant the price tag. Personally, I love it but will never even think of buying it.

Copal Azur evokes the aroma of Copal, a resin used since ancient times in Mexico for religious rites. Its smell is very similar to incense and, as it cannot be used in the perfumery field, its smell has been reproduced with three different types of incense. The place we want to recall is the archaeological site of Tulum, sacred to the Maya, which is located on the sea, and here we have an incensed, fresh, salty, at times marine scent, which I personally like a lot, as a lover of the genre. Nature and sacredness coming together, truly beautiful.

I was gifted a sample and wore it without looking up the notes and my first thoughts were that it was a dry tobacco leaf and spice fragrance. The incense, myrrh, tonka, and amber give it a tobacco accord to my nose. But after looking at the notes it does seem a little incensey. Also, I think they use something vanillic to creat the amber accord. I kinda would place this as a blend of Interlude man blended with Tobacco Vanille thankfully without the sweetness due to the salt note. 4/5

I've sampled five creations from de Venustas, and this one easily ranks in my top two. It's a stunning, unique, and transportive blend. I used to think incense only carried a "dark" quality, but this fragrance completely changed my mind. Here, the incense feels incredibly fresh an I find this fragrance to be the perfect companion when raining on a relatively warm day in the beginning of autumn.

What an incense fragrance! Stunning salty incense in the top, that will be rounded in the base by myrrh and cardamom. Masterpiece, but the price is a little steep imo given its performance, and in particular its projection that I wish was better. Spring/Fall days, 25+ Edit: wearing it in a hot Spring evening. The heat makess it competely bloom, and performance is now moderate/good!

This fragrance is nice. I think it's more for spring and summer because I get a beachhead vibe from it. I think it is very good. My only complaint is the price. $245 is a lot to drop on a fragrance. If this had a price tag around $180 I'd probably pick it up. Until then I will just have to settle with my sample. A definite try in my book. 8/10

I love the salt. It’s rocky and bracing but somehow also warm and deeply inviting. The Amber is making this absolutely melt into my skin. I love salty fragrances but struggle with finding ones that aren’t flat and synthetic, and this is a beautiful salty, warm, aromatic scent.

Stunning salty, slightly herbal, dry incense with some amber and spice in the dry down. Hints of chinotto and root beer in the opening. Lighter and slightly fresher than you'd imagine considering the notes. Perfect for Spring / Autumn. Unusual, beautiful, and mysterious.

Wow, wow, wow!! The most delicious incense perfume I've ever smelled. As odd as this sounds, this is a fresh, creamy AND smoky scent. It's such a unique combination The opening is quite smoky and spicy but it dries down into a mouth-watering, incense and cardamom combo

Great opening with ozone and salty. Then sweetness comes out but not too much: may be thanks to myrrh,amber and tonka mixed with incense. Very particular scent, little incensed. I would have preferred more longevity and sillage, also considering the price. Recommended.

there’s an amazing menthol quality somewhere around the salty myrrh, especially when sprayed on hair and clothes. another perfect duchaufour incense; sinister, sexy and worth it (longevity issues and obscenely ostentatious bottles aside).

Main Notes - Special coolness - bitter incense - red date (jujube)+pickled plum+beef jerky In Short A special type of resinous coolness shines through like twinkling stars, followed by a dried fibrous-root-like bitter incense, which neutralizes the starry coolness like a black hole, then finally, a balsamic base with a soft sweetness buried all the traces. In Details A coolness, a very special kind of coolness is in the air: Not the clichéd toothpaste smell of mint, not the pungency of green pepper, not the artificial sizzling bubbles of aldehydes, not even the green resinousness of pine needles, certainly not the razor-sharp tone of camphor, this particular coolness has some resemblance to thyme sans all the messy herbaceousness, and shares some similarity with the slightly metal-like hard tone of nutmeg , but without the unpleasant "molten solder" scent; it also come with the high pitched wet-paint-like tone of natural frankincense, but managed to keep a low profile. Somehow it remind me of new tea leaves slowly stretching out in cold water , and silver thread embroidered on white linen . - The "fresh"/"cool" scents in perfume usually cannot last long, except this time: after an hour, this specific coolness still lingers on the skin. Then, a sort of transparent, slightly sweet greenness flashes for one second, then smothered by another very lean "incense" (frankincense?). This bitter scent kind of smell like some dead, dried fibrous roots , it stretching out its withered fingers, extinguished the sparkling coolness, and embracing us with its ashy grey arm. - Fortunately, the bitterness is not the end - the base with an ambiguous sweetness finally revealed itself, after you almost lost hope in waiting: Myrrh? Amber? Tonka beans? I never know the difference, and the scent is so faint now it doesn't matter anyway. They smelled a bit like sweet red date, with a touch of pickled plum, a bit of chewy spice on beef jerky, and perhaps all these things combined. This faintly sweet base is like the elusive smile of Cheshire cat, before you can figure out whether or how or why it could exist, it has already dissipated in the air. Smell good ? 9/10 for me, 4-6/10 for the majority of normal people Smell Interesting ? 7/10 Ingredients Quality F*ing Awesome.

A slightly aquatic background covered with an incense more like frankincense. Less intense than cardinal this is almost a daily incense if ever there was one. But who are you that’s looking for a daily incense? Also wearing this kind of incense I would avoid it if you’re anywhere near a boys’ elementary school. It’s long lasting incense note is half decent however overall this is a repeated incense theme with a slight twist. This scent gets better with time so give it a full wearing. I strongly feel that Kobraa by Bvlgari is the best frankincense within the incense genre closely followed by LV’s nuit de feu. MP’s encens suave is a little gourmand and Amouage’s Rose Incense is good but that has a huge rose dose and vanilla base with an incense which opens intense then mellows. Both this and cardinal are too churchy for my taste. Scent 7.5 Sillage: Incense for office wear Value: Strongly depends on your use case to me 3.5/10 I would rather get the Bvlgari Kobraa 30ml (Emirates First Class toiletries). Found at discounters for around $30 i’ve seen as low as $25.

An amazingly beautiful fragrance for the first hour and a half. Incense combines with marine elements, amber and ozonics to create something with a wild and naturally smoky feeling that is reminiscent of the sea side but not in a sea weedy, overly salty way. It’s like a fresh breeze on a cliff side overlooking the sea with elements of stone and smoke. This top phase of the fragrance is gorgeous and brings a feeling of calmness and peace. As Copal Azur dries down, it becomes incense dominant, but it’s a sweet sort of stale incense, at least on my skin. This incense loses the dark and smoky qualities that were hinted at before, and becomes quite tame. There’s a generic woodiness in the background. This part I didn’t love as much although it’s not bad, but it keeps my rating on this to just a like. The fragrance lasts a long time on skin, up to 12 hours, and about ten hours of it is the dry down phase.

Copal Azur was marvelous for the first hours. A fantastic intoxicating mix of clean incense with warmness of amber and just the right nudge of sweet, elegant tonka and resins. I have never enjoyed saltiness in perfume, būt here it is just spot on, adding a refreshing masculine twist. Unfortunately 2 hours in, it turns to a generic polished wood scent, lasting strong for good ten hours. It does have a slight marine scent, making it a tad More interesting, but it is nothing compared to the first experience. Worth a try for the initial beauty, būt not Worth the price tag, in my opinion.

I’m conjuring up a pine forest which I think is a result of the myrrh, incense and patchouli blend. In the drydown I pick up more sweetness, and a salty ocean note. I get about 1 hour of projection then this turns to a skin scent. Interesting, but like others I’m balking over the price and the average lifespan it has on my skin. For the price I’d want that first phase to be twice as long. Overall a thumbs up for a very natural leaning, unisex creation from Duchaufour.

I really enjoy this fragrance. The incense is there but it isn't center stage for me. The myrrh and resins stand out more. Some have compared this to Squid from Zoologist. If I were to pick, I would go with Squid. Although, for the price this is a better deal. Squid has a darker/richer feel to me. Overall, I still like this fragrance. Second sample from the line. Cafe Tabac was the first and that is a favorite of mine. Certainly worth a shot.

quite a pleasant scent, a salty incense , inoffensive, safe and fresh . a scent to remember ? sadly not, for the price I won't be investing in a full bottle anytime soon .

This is a great incense resinous fragrance. However for this price, its not worth it especially when there are cheaper ones that are just as good or better.

this is my second review. I have to decide whether to buy it or not. after a strong initial confusion, well I must say that I feel an incense not too clerical, but more smoky, with the smell of sea and salt. so if it stopped here it would be fantastic. the problem is the after. for the price it becomes too sweet a perfume for me. in summer it would be too sweet, in spring ... I wouldn't wear it as I associate floral scents more with spring and autumn ... no ... I would put more. at one point there is an incredible contrast between the background salt, the almond note that is there but not listed, the saltiness, the resinous sweetness of cardamom, a sweet and not dark patchouli, not earthy, the sweet cleansing and not soapy of myrrh, a cloying vanilla amber and precisely the sweet almond tonka bean. after 20 minutes, the incense is barely perceptible and the background of salt which is pleasant and continues to be present, however, is overwhelmed by an almost caramel-like sweetness bordering on gourmand. I'm sorry because I just don't know when to wear it except on some cool summer night. it also has something lactonic in the finish and fishy at first. longevity does not exceed 2 hours and projects only one arm, leaving however a sweet trail. if it had been less sweet I would have bought it. but it is one of those perfumes that I would really find difficult to place. I would have put more copal and more salt, avoiding the sweetish side dish. 6.5 / 10

Hey .. At the opening I have a very sparkling refreshing chinotto, floating liquid incense, fresh green, and dark peppery which, as it evolves, becomes like a sweet can of Pepsi left open. This is a sweet marine amber accord but still full of bubbles and co2 that you can find in combination in the ambergris attars. It gives calm, freshness, depth as in the seabed. Meanwhile, liturgical incenses make their way through banks of cardamom, clear patchouli,labdanum, medicinal myrrh and sweet tonka bean almost pulverizing into a salty, naphthalene drydown of ambrette, perhaps currant leaves and clary sage green with a crystalline amber, hard and glassy candy. A forced finish, with a more powdery and spicy texture with a retro flavor. Anyway liturgical, Mediterranean, afternoon, from open spaces and good weather. Engaging and fun in the first phase but tired, simple, indolent, sweet and serene as hot cinnamon, in the second. It's like celebrating five o'clock afternoon mass in a sultry summer. Very pleasant incense and a bit more feminine on my skin.

opening of incense that slams in your face. ecclesiastical but less sweet even if sweet it is. then if I put my nose in a salt shaker I feel that smell of stale salt. while the incense thins out ... in the meantime the perfume becomes even more sweet but even stronger than megamare which many say is exceptional in performance. surely there are ozonic notes. after myrrh and cardamom round it and I feel a lot of patchouli. it seems to pass from the sea to a maritime pine forest. I feel resins. a light cardamom concludes the whole. little amber and little tonka bean. the drydown is very flat. refreshing but I don't like it. excellent performance, too high price. better than megamare but I wouldn't buy it. 6.5 / 10 excellent quality of the incense but it would have been nice to last longer.

Not present in the reviews I’ve read here is how very citrusy this is. Copal can be quite citrusy, and it’s pretty prominent throughout this fragrance. I like incense that smells LIKE incense (Tauer is one of my faves), and while this undeniably smells like copal, it also undeniably smells like lemon/orange. I wouldn’t call this churchy or really smoky in any meaningful way. Sure, the salt/incense thing people mention is present, but I can’t overstate that it smells citrusy. It’s a weird combination, and I’m not super into it, I smelled this like 10 years ago in a store and thought it was amazing, but after getting a 10ml decant I would definitely not buy a full bottle. Scent: 5/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 7/10 Full bottle? Not for me.

It seems as though the perfumer struggled to decide between an aquatic or a myrrh-focused scent, resulting in a somewhat incomplete composition. The initial opening blast is dominated by myrrh and incense, but then the ozonic element emerges that I find somewhat screechy. This could just be the case of the olibanum fighting along the ozonic accords for attention. After an hour, the dry down reveals a noticeable patchouli accord that's a bit reminiscent of Profumo. While the overall impression is not bad per se, it does not reach a level of excellence either. This could have been better executed. It's one of those fragrances, that I find myself revisiting every now and then, expecting it to 'wow' me.

An incense-forward fragrance with some salty and lightly creamy notes. On the one hand, it's not bad as a relatively airy take on incense. On the other hand, there's an element to it all put together that smells a little like baby spit-up. Not overtly offensive, per say, but enough to make myself ask, "do I like this?". In the end I'm ambivalent.

This stongly reminds me of Tauer Perfumes Incense Rosé with the way the incense note is done. Interesting fragrance but nothing super original here. More for Fall/Winter, pretty strong.

According to AdV at the time Copal Azur was released, copal resin was an incense that was not found in perfumery. Native to Mesoamerica, I suppose this makes sense since perfumery was never really a major part of that world but the burning of incense certainly was. AdV and Duchafour sought to finally capture it in a perfume. Did they succeed? I honestly have no idea. I've never smelled copal before. What I can smell is a resinous and green combination of myrrh and olibanum. Tossed into the top of the perfume are some calones to give an ozonic, salty, sea water type effect - which is odd for an incense perfume, so perhaps we are to assume that copal has a natural watery and salty facet to it. There seems to be some spice, perhaps cardamom according to the brand, and some earthy notes playing very, very quietly in the background but they are quite meek and imperceptible to what is being presented as entirely incense. The final skin scent is a near invisible balsam and tonka amber base, flecked with - you guessed it - incense. This is going to be a very brief review, dear reader; I have three final points to make. The first is, is the incense any good? The incense accord is lovely. If you love incense, you're going to love this incense note. The second is, is the perfume itself any good? In a word, no. It's boring as hell. Incense, incense, and incense, and very little else besides. If you want and love a completely linear incense perfume that does nothing else, this is for you. I don't want nor love that, so it's a "no" from me. The third is... well... how to do I ask this.... I suppose the question I'm reaching for is: what is the point of it? Copal Azur is now more than 10 years old and was composed by one of our great perfumers. There might have been a point in the perfume's past, unbeknownst to me, where this was actually much better than the formulation I'm wearing today. As of today, for what it smells like, what it does, and how it performs, for an EdP commanding its high price tag, you'd have to be bonkers to buy it. It's boring, it doesn't do much of anything, it doesn't say anything new, and its longevity is absurdly poor. AdV, as my new bottles of Signature and Iris Nazarena confirm, used to be much better; I have a feeling Copal Azur is what it is today because, just like my new bottles of Signature and Iris Nazarena, it was made insipid and wan to improve the business's bottom line. This is purely conjecture on my part, but I have ample evidence and experience with AdV over the years, and with several other AdV perfumes, to hazard that I am making a very educated presumption. To answer my own question then, what is the point of Copal Azur? As of today, it doesn't seem to have a point; in fact, it seems to be solidly pointless. Moving on, then....

Opens like a spice bomb: cardamom and myrrh hit straight to the face, with waves of salt, unburned frankincense, and an odd ambery sweetness. It honestly smells like a spiced lemon broth from some distant Eastern kitchen; the opening wrecked me, a bad start, but I decided to wait it out... As it develops, patchouli begins to assert itself: salt + patchouli + incense. That misplaced sweetness keeps twirling and laughing in the background. I almost reached scrubber territory before the drydown even arrived, yet I kept waiting. Not comparing notes, but the vibe feels akin to Dans le Bleu Qui Pétille and Squid: salty ambergris, a misplaced sweet accord, and incense. This whole dark-beachy category just isn’t for me: every single one hides that same sweetness that throws the entire composition off balance. dark-beachy, frankincense, salt, amber sweet

Nothing special, I could hardly smell the incense. Poor performer on my skin. Received a sample and not bottle worthy imo.

Bertrand Duchaufour has created many memorable incense perfumes including Aedes's own eponymous scent and the famous Avignon by Commes des Garcon.Here he creates a new genre.I'd call it "Tropical Incense" or "Oceanic Incense".Too often these days are the launches of perfumes accompanied by marketing drivel and florid descriptions that rarely live up to the hype.Descriptions of exotic locales, rituals and rare ingredients fall flat as the reality is far different from the promised journey.Copal Azur is one of the few perfumes I've found that indeed does take you on the promised journey and what a journey it is.Designed to recall the juxtaposition of the scared Mayan incense Copal,the lush oceanic locale of Tulum,and the verdant Mayan jungle,Copal Azur starts with a powerful blast of incense apparently constructed from 3 different extractions of Frankincense as Copal itself is not used as a perfumery ingredient.The opening is eye- wateringly strong.Behind the incense lurks a marine like ozonic note but don't worry aquatic phobes there's no Calone like note here.Because of that the incense has less of a Catholic or liturgical feel. It's more of a dry/bitter green ozonic note,almost chlorine like with a salty element.It has an airy and crisp feeling like staring into the depths of a deep blue cenote.Since cenotes usually occur at a fresh and salt water interface this makes perfect olfactory sense.Think of it as a salty fresh note,maybe Floralozone?.After a few minutes a tropical note begins to creep in.This is the note of the Mayan jungle.It is the scent of a distant jungle rot with a spicy sweet green accent provided by the Cardamom.Bertrand Duchaufour used a similar note in his excellent Aurore Nomade for The Different Company.In Aurore Nomade the floral element was turned up and accented with rum and spices.Here it's much drier and airier.It's like the distant humid veneer of the jungle made drier by the incense and ozonic notes.At this point Copal Azur really does provide a remarkable realistic feeling of being on the beach in Tulum surrounded by a cloud of burning copal resin.As the perfume reaches it's middle stages it becomes slightly sweeter as the notes of Tonka bean and Amber make an entrance. The amber is meant to represent the fire that burns the sacred Copal. That sweetness is tempered by the patchouli and the Myrrh and the resinous smell of the Copal still swirls like a sweet smoke holding everything together.As Copal Azur dries down the notes meld seamlessly into each other into a resinous salty/fresh tropical blur.With a polite sillage and excellent longevity this is a must try for incense lovers and those that enjoy fresh tropical salty scents.It's a new and daring take on incense.I truly enjoyed the journey.Bravo Bertrand Duchaufour and Aedes De Venustas!

اعتقد الكثير محبين لنوته البخور الذي من انواعه اللبان وبالتالي ان كنت محب للبان طعماً و رائحةً هذا العطر أعتقد انه سيكون له شأن معك، يرتكز على بخور اللبان بأسلوب رائع روحاني فخم بامتياز بعيد عن تلك الرائحة التي قد تجدها لاذعه او حاده في اللبان والتي تجعلك تنفر منه احيانا، بالرغم انه يرتكز عليه في عطرنا هذا الا انه مقدم بطريقة دافئة انيقه باعثه للتأمل والاسترخاء المكونات الاخرى ليست بذلك البروز الذي يجعلك تتخيل انه عطر مليئ بالضجيج او انه عطر شرقي حاد أبدا، الهيل والعنبر والباتشولي والتونكا كلها عناصر مكمله وموظفه بطريقة ناعمه وهادئة لترويض اللبان و لرسم اجواء ارادها المصمم ومالك الدار الذي يملك متجرا لبيع عطور النيش مع خط عطوره هذا. . تخيل معي أنك على سفح جبل تنظر بتأمل عميق للبحر وتلاطم أمواجه الزمردية مستمتعاً بصوت تلاطمها وبترانيم الطيور من حولك في فترة ظهيرة بعد أن سدلت السحب ستارها عن السماء لتعلن معها هطول المطر،حتى تأتيك نسمات الهواء العليلة ببعض من نسمات المطر بعد توقفه وشيئ من تلك الغابة التي تقبع بالخلف منك لتصطحب معها نسمات بارده مصحوبة برائحة التربه الخافته المبلله ورائحة بخورية (لبانية) دافئه روحانية اشعلها مجموعة من شعب المايا القاطنين في تلك اللغابه في احتفالية مقدسه لديهم، مع لمحات من نسيم البحر المالح الناعم المصحوب برائحة هوائية بارده لتجعلك لا أراديا تغمض عينيك مستمتعاً بذلك الشعور ومتنفساً بعمق معلنا أنتشاؤك بتلك الاجواء ومحلق بخيالك مع نسمات من بخور يدعى كوبال copal by Bertrand Duchaufour. بالمناسبة بخور كوبال شديد الشبه برائحة اللبان واراد Duchaufour تجسيد ذلك البخور الذي يستخدمه شعب المايا قديما... ولازال يستخدم حاليا في بعض دول امريكا اللاتينيه في احتفالاتهم المقدسه وكذلك في مراسم الوفاة... إلا انه لايمكن استخدامه في العطور! 8/10 . . . هذا من العطور بالنسبة الذي تصفه حسب أجوائه التي يوحيها لك. العطر ذكرني بلمحات طفيفه جدا من عطر جيبلويشن من امواج العطر يحتاج تجربه اكثر من مره .. اتمنى ان تكون الفكره وصلت وابدا ودائما وصل على النبي ولاتنس ذكر الله

For me this pulls very masculine, and it wouldn’t suit me personally. But I have a couple of samples and I spray them on an envelope or something from time to time just to appreciate the smell. The sillage is powerful and just spraying it on paper like that fills a room easily. There aren’t many Aedes scents that I would say have beast properties but this absolutely does. Myrrh is dominant to my nose, on paper and on skin. It gives this a decidedly barbershop vibe somehow which is why unfortunately I can’t pull it off as a personal fragrance. But the myrrh is exceptionally warm, clear and stunning. The cool incense is here too for me, but it’s the camphorous patchouli that pulls most obviously against the warmth of the myrrh. The result is a fascinating tension. I understand why some would call this challenging — I think it absolutely is. There’s something about it that doesn’t ever feel quite “still” because of the way these notes play against one another. It begins almost too sweet, but for me this sweetness abates and this dries down into a saltiness that is beyond words. I really almost feel I can taste salt. This is just a beautiful, beautiful fragrance. I don’t tend to enjoy balsamic, resinous fragrances much, but it’s hard not to admire this.

Copal Azur from Aedes de Venustas is a prophecy rustling on the wind, woven from copal and frankincense fumes that billow from temples guarding secrets older than gods. A taste of eternity, a sticky fever dream forgotten ritual, clinging to your ribs long after the final swallow. The jungle itself seems to hold its breath as explorers, trespassers who believe they understand the weight of the past, navigate its sun-dappled heart toward the source of the scent. The air hangs heavy with it, a fat, golden sigh that twists through the foliage--which, wary of the intrusion, whispers not of secrets but of warnings from the dusty pages of history, hinting at unknown chapters these interlopers were never meant to be a part of. A golden condor soars overhead, its wings brushing against this intoxicating residue; it, too, is aloft on a dream of following the path of the setting sun.

Stunning juice from one of my favorite perfumers. This is somewhat in the same vein as Xerjoff 40 Knots in the sense its ambery and salty but this has a certain mystical quality about it that evokes images of vastness and grandeur that almost no other fragrance I've tried can come close to. Warm by the fireside in an ocean grotto under the starry night of the milky way with no light pollution basking in the fully glory of the heavens and cool sea breeze creating a perfect balance of hot and cold, sweet and salty, clean and smokey. This evokes a meditative state in me whenever I wear it. Perfect for that transition from summer to autumn where the dry air really draws out the salty notes. High quality and unique scent profile executed to perfection. Long lasting, good projection. Would give it a 9/10 but given the high price and somewhat artistic profile that falls flat often in drawing positive attention, while inoffensive not quite a compliment puller I give it Overall rating: 8.5/10 Check out my full review @tzfragrance on YouTube!

It smells like a bathroom cleaner, but a really good one. This is an incense fragrance that opens with a bang — a “blue” flame kind of effect carved from a snappy combo of aldehydes that gives it a feel not too far removed from one of those “blue” CdGs. From start to finish, it’s clean — like OCD clean — which seems odd against incense, but it does work somehow. What bothers me about it, though, is the slight herbal tinge that seems sage-like — a note that I’m jut not a fan of. Even though I don’t think this is something I’d wear by choice, I am impressed by how daring the approach is. I must admit, though, that it’s a very poor performer; all the good parts are gone within 20 minutes, and what’s left an insipid shadow of what came prior. If I were to sum it up in a just few words, I’d say it smells like someone just mopped the floor of a church with some top-shelf bleach.

Other special work on the incense and its peculiarities by expert incense: Douchaufour for Aedes de Venustas. The fragrance is truly spectacular and is inspired by the Mediterranean Sea. Considering that copal is the highest quality incense, the fragrance has three types of incense placed in different arrangements to mimic this high quality. Most interesting, that makes it different and original Copal Azur are opening it feels fresh, ozónica and salty that when combined with incense cardamom and patchouli transports waterfront and imagine the breeze on your face, is very special this fragrance. Drying resins with myrrh, amber, tonka and incense brings a hot spot that overwhelms and complete perfectly balancing the fragrance. High duration and average projection makes this special fragrance for everyday use. Rating: 7

When I originally heard the news of Copal Azul, I immediately thought about a cold / bright incense....well, this is not. At least not completely. It opens with a sparkling and extremely clean incense note joined by a subtle ozonic accord. In this phase it vaguely brings to mind of other similarly themed incenses such as Liquide Imaginaires Sancti, Heeley's Cardinal and, to a lesser extent, Andrea Maack Craft or even Comme Des Garcons Blue Encens. This phase doesn't last long though and the fragrance morphes pretty quickly into a competent, if not completely deja-vu, sweet ambery incense middle-phase and drydown which are both comforting and boring at the same time. Not bad after all. It's absolutely pleasant and well done but, in my opinion, redundant and kind of formulaic too. Rating: 6.5/10

8:40 - Incense, salt, and amber. All the other notes too. I'm liking this more than I thought I would based on the reviews. Reminds me of Christmas in Texas. Not very strong. 10:30 - Settled into patchouli and salt on top of a subtle balsamic base. I wouldn't call it unisex, more that it could lean either femme or masc depending on the individual. I wish it was stronger. On a side note, when I opened the box the Aedes samples came in, everyone near it drew back and I was told not to wear these where they had to smell them. Stinkiest box ever. Smelled like By Kilian's Vodka on the Rocks gone off. Luckily, the individual scents seem to be okay. 12 - resprayed, three spritzes. This was a mistake. Now it's a strong, semi-masculine, patchouli bomb. Smells pretty good, though. Just not for me.
