Pélargonium

Simply brilliant, reminds me of the Lancome powder my grandmother used, but this is far from a "Granny scent". This perfume lifts you up, is radiant and aromatic and will generate many compliments. I love how versatile and unoffensive this is, but it still is strong enough and noticeable to stand out in a sea of dreadful drab and dull odors.

Citruses, cardamom and pepper in the top. Woddy/vanillic geranium in the heart, laying on a vetiver bed. What a beautiful and delicate blend... my favourite of the AdV line, but it's hard to rank them as these are one more beautiful than the other. Very sadly, this one is now a unicorn... Simply stunning. For warmer days.

The opening smell great! Zesty lime and sweet mandarin with subtle spices. As it develops, a nice peppery vetiver note is growing together with the geranium which brings a herbaceous/minty aroma. In a way it reminds me a bit of a mojito. 8/10

Opens with geranium, a minute later I can clearly smell cardamom and pepper. There's an elegant touch of elemi in there and a great blend of woods in base. Very versatile and amazing fragrance. But what a shame - it's already discontinued :'(

There's something bewitching about this fragrance, I've not seen anything like it from other brands. It's a balsamic fougère with strong floral tones. It's calming and office friendly.

Gorgeous summer scent, genderless, a clean geranium/vetiver. As with most offerings from this house, it is elegant, refined, and interesting.

I’d call this fragrance a super-aromatic geranium. From the first inhale, geranium and herbs take center stage; clary sage especially vivid and dominant. A ribbon of citrus brightness runs through the composition, keeping it luminous and alive. It conjures the sense of a fresh forest breeze: green, resinous, touched with clarity. A faint dusting of black pepper hums in the background, adding subtle warmth. Cardamom too. Perfectly unisex: serene, foresty, and quietly resinous; a study in balance, where herbs meet woods, and serenity hums beneath the green. As it dries down, cedar takes the lead, blending with the remaining notes to create a harmony that’s at once floral, aromatic, and woody. Tag(s): geranium, forest, woods, fresh, citrusy

A delightful aromatic blend of citruses, peppers, cardamom, and sage laying on a bed of comforting geranium, vetiver and musk. Mellow and earthy carrot seed. Very office friendly for any gentleman. He will smell classy but friendly and approachable. Easy going confidence. I wish male designer releases were all this refined and pleasant. This fragrance is just the right touch. Noticable but not obnoxious like many male aromatic fragrances. Highly recommend. Easy everyday elegance for any man.

NOTE: My nose is terrible, I can't make much out of a perfume :D It definitely starts with a strong bergamot, and then the spicy notes appear almost immediately, which last until the end. Because of this, for me, it's very similar to Creed Viking. The undertone, however, is different; for me, the vetiverish scent is dominant in the background. I like wearing it, it lasts long enough and the smell is pleasant, but I do not enjoy it enough to make a full bottle purchase.

Nathalie Feisthauer doesn't get enough credit, and certainly to no fault of her own. The houses and creative directions she has been working with over a big portion of her career are subpar to the talents she possesses. It's very pleasing to me that Aedes de Venustas gave her a good brief and then let her just have at it. The result is Pelargonium, one of the best from the brand in the last decade; I would be hard pressed to argue against it being the best of the last decade. So, I ended up laughing at myself when I found my nose being reductive when I first sprayed Pelargonium to my skin and gave it a big sniff: grapefruit? A few more sniffs: grapefruit? I laughed. No, that's not right. I changed my breathing, swirled the aromas around my palate... and still came up with grapefruit, but noticed quite a bit more going on besides. Bitter, very oily and zesty bergamot, sweet and juicy orange, herbal and earthy - even a touch sulfuric - sage, and the tight piquancy of pepper gave me this impression of a very elegant, very aromatic grapefruit. It is sunshine and playful happiness. Then the green, camphoraceous, and spearmint notes of geranium arrive, backed by sweet and oily carrot seed to take over the fruit notes from the top, and a new player, white incense, arrives. The transition from the heart is seamless and gorgeous, a shifting of gears without losing a bit of the vivacious momentum. The white incense note is superb; it is elegant and evocative without taking the fresh and happy opening down a path of deep and cloistered meditation. In the final dry down, I sensed a woody base taking over, and I got worried - wondering if this is where the brief would lose direction or the accountants would step in to cut costs, and force Ms. Feisthauer to sacrifice the base. But not so. The base is indeed woody, but it is well blended with solid materials, and maintains the energy, lightness of being, and cohesion Pelargonium displayed in earlier stages. The mix of cedar, vetiver, musks, and tree moss are stately and elegant but stay on message. All of this is great. It's a lovely perfume, indeed. However, the strange part is that with all of this energy, vitality, and confidence Pelargonium remains very close to you and shy. Don't ask me how, but I got this image of Charlize Theron, and then found myself asking "would Charlize ever sit in the back corner of a room hoping to never be seen, heard, or talked to?" I obviously don't know Ms. Theron, but someone of her talent, confidence, charisma, and striking good looks, does not seem like the type; she's going to walk into the room and own it without really having to try. Pelargonium has that person, but it stuffs itself into the room's corner, choosing to keep its radiant light hidden under a bushel basket. Aedes de Venustas seem very committed to this "style" these days. Regardless of the perfume, it needs to be quiet, meek, and completely unnoticeable unless you put the skin it was applied to six inches or less from your nose. For the fact that they are applying this approach to all of their perfumes, new and the reformulated, makes me wonder if this isn't so much a creative mandate as it is a cost-cutting initiative; accountants don't care if it fits the creative brief of the perfume, only what the final numbers look like. Pelargonium falls victim to whatever directive is at root, and it really shouldn't have. Some perfumes need to be quiet, meek, and skin hugging, but some don't work well that way. So, despite what I said in the beginning paragraphs, Pelargonium makes me a bit despondent. I wish I could lift the bushel basket and see the glowing light that is only peeking through at me. But, for the fact that I am trying to get at it through the basket to be able to experience more of it says enough.

I don't know if I'm asnomic to this geranium note or what, but I get nothing. It's all sharp, sharp bergamot — all peel, no flesh — and then straight to vetiver-cedar woods. It feels like they "yada-yada"'d the best part of a perfume. I think some of the Aedes fragrances are quite nice but this one is not very special in the green-citrus field.

Let me save you a lot of money and aggravation; don't fall in love with the idea of this fragrance. You love geraniums? Go right ahead and continue to love them. Just don't think you're going to get a great, strong, unusual geranium fragrance here. You love the Aedes perfume shop in New York? Go right ahead and keep fantasizing about having a life where you could go there once a month and buying at least one of the exotic perfumes they sell. Just don't bother with their name scents. All of them made since about 2007 have been very weak....and very expensive. Fortunately I gleaned my opinion of Pelargonium off one of their name brand samples, not someone's watered down decant. Might has well have been a watered down decant. Very weak scent. And it is a dab on sample too, not a spray, and with a stopper that is almost impossible to remove. They must have known it was hard to open because they chose a stopper with little parallel lines etched along the side, for that fortunate 1% of the population who can grip something that is literally 1/8 inch high and pull it up and out in one swift motion. The rest of us though..... Fortunately I have a set of 6 stainless steel tweezers, and I had to use the one with the little file-like notches on the tips to drag the stopper off. Almost as hard getting it back in. Yes, I have arthritis, but this stopper would be a problem for nearly anyone. And with a fragrance this weak, you want to spray it everywhere. No chance of that. I considered literally pouring it on myself, but didn't. I might yet. This stuff is very faintly geranium, a skin scent on me anyway within 15 minutes. Why do they bother making this?

The opening on the smelling strip was mindblowing; I had never smelled this accord in perfume before. It reminded me powerfully of the bead shop in my hometown, which was full of incense and fragrant woods. It smelled ancient, like an Egyptian tomb. On skin, I quickly lost the spices and incense, along with any possible geranium, under an overwhelming, choking dose of Too Much Pepper. A little bit of sweet mandarin pokes out, so candied I almost thought “peach” at first, and offers a nice contrast to the pepper. But I get ALL PEPPER for two or three solid hours before I notice it’s gone down to a nice soft woody-incense scent. I like it, but I wish it could have come out earlier. At no point do I get anything I might even speculate could be geranium. A pity, since I love geranium. But: pelargoniums are not exactly geraniums! One day I crushed a pelargonium leaf and it did have the dark, black-pepper-like, painfully dry smell of this fragrance! I’m impressed by how true to the plant it is; I guess I just don’t like that particular plant so much. The Aedes de Venustas line have the most wonderful deeply colored glass bottles and satisfyingly weighty stoppers, btw. I’m sure it’s a joy to own one.

Viste le note avevo paura di provare l'ennesimo detersivo per pavimenti/repellente per zanzare... Questo in parte e'cosi' ma piu versatile,di buona qualita' e un po sofisticato rispetto ad altri profumi simili. C'è una bella nota di salvia e buon legno guaiac. Bello il vetyver nel finale. Ben miscelato.Non cambia molto,rimane frizzante e agro a lungo. La mia pelle apprezza,il mio naso un po meno.

An absolutely gorgeous aromatic fragrance. So realistic and natural smelling, it was in instant love for me. Only issue: It practically evaporates on the skin once applied. It literally vanishes within minutes. As much as I love this, I'd go though a bottle in weeks, if not days. Too bad...

A very nice scent. I had a liberal application from a sample, it spilled a bit, and even with that I had to have my nose pressed to my skin to smell it. I don't want to fill a room but yikes. Pass unfortunately because I really like this

More crystalline, lithe version of The Beat by Burberry. Waxy, powdery, comforting, sweet. Surprisingly long lasting with assertive sillage. Beautifully blended with high quality ingredients that justify the price.

In the opening I get Lemon verbena and lemon balm slightly floral & woody, reminds me of a Donna Karan perfume I bought my mom for her bday one year Fresh grassy clean floral, no indoles or sweet billowy nectar

This is so beautifully aromatic, floral, and fragrant. Not quite sure what I would have done without picking up such a unique and gorgeous fragrance.

I'd mistaken it for an Ormonde Jayne. Lightweight, but painstakingly well-crafted. A nano-chip made of crystal, transparent but complicated.

Picture Déclaration by Cartier as part of Hermès’ ‘Un Jardin’ line. Definitely a very good fragrance.
