Ambrette de Noir

This is extremely bitter and spicy in the opening. The scent pyramid here is lacking for sure. It almost smells like the bitterness of Angelique Noir and I’d bet money Angelique Noir was the inspiration for this fragrance. I’m also comfortable betting Duelle and Vanille Insensee were fresh in the creators mind during the process. This is much lighter, more spring and summer friendly, and a bit more powdery but they are all relatives. In the opening I get a strong, bitter but sweet, spicy, dusty powdered blast to my senses. It’s familiar but not in a commercialized way, I recognize it as the niche style which had become commercially viable if this makes sense? As it wears, it becomes cosier, less bitter. You are left with a sweet vanilla, softened by the ambrette and lightened by the florals. I would say it’s very much for lovers of vanilla with a twist and if you like any of the ones I have mentioned, you will appreciate this one. The drydown is the best part. Very snuggly. Long lasting but close to the skin. Add on: Has a touch of a vintage Hypnotic Poison vibe as well and Luna by Nina Ricci. It’s the immortelle in Luna which shares something with Ambrette de Noir. If I had to take vanilla fragrances from my collection and group them together, this would share a shelf with Angelique Noir, Duelle, Vanille Insensee, Luna and my vintage Hypnotic Poison.

This is a confusing scent for me. It kind of reminds me of Evening Rose, another Aerin perfume. But there is a note that I can't quite get over with. I am not saying it is bad. People have different preferences. And for some reason I get a strong olive note. Weird. Maybe it’s a heavy boozy rose and ambrette. My olfactory sense must be off to smell olive. Unfortunate. Update: 08/09/2023 I tried again in the middle of the summer. And this pronounced olive note I previously got is much more muted. And there’s this rich, boozy rose. It’s obviously not a shy rose but very assertive. It is like Aerin’s Evening Rose but amplified with more complexity. It is not jammy like Evening Rose D’Or. There is a slight Dior Addict vibe, though Ambrette de Noir is definitely unique and, in my olfactory senses, better blended. I am upgrading to love. This is refined, sophisticated. The quality of the perfume is good. It is a parfum concentration. I would wear it at night. It seems heavy for daytime use. I am glad I gave it another try. Dark and mysterious. Update: 08/28/2024. I haven’t worn this for awhile and when I sprayed it, my partner said “divine.” This has over time become an even more gorgeous scent. Such a complex luxurious scent.

This lil baby is finally mine! I have loved it for a long time. This one makes you realize just how great ambrette is, esp when done right and front and center of the perfume. It's never overpowering but it has good sillage(not great, but good) and lasts for 12+ hours on me. My skin brings out the orange blossom and peony more, vs. the rose, jasmine or freesia. I never pick up on the ambroxan. This is the most perfect and beautiful ambrette perfume I've ever tried, and so happy it's finally mine! Edit: 11/17/23 I’ve already added a back up bottle for when my first one is gone. I’m trying to go through it slowly but I do not want to be without this one!

I think I wore this enough to make up my mind. I love love love it! Apparently, this fragrance is quite a chameleon as many see it so differently: “ burnt orange, not purple”, “dark resin that's not listed in the notes”, “smells like Moroccan oil”, “extremely bitter and spicy in the opening”, “musky, vanilla incense bomb”, “perfect flower scent”... I didn’t know what to expect from it, simply bought it because somehow it was on clearance almost half off retail. Boy, am I happy I did! To me this is warm, soft, powdery, musky vanilla with a hint of flowers. Fits the color of the juice perfectly. Absolutely gorgeous, addictive, long lasting chef-d'oeuvre!

Aerin Ambrette Noir is my pick from the Aerin fragrances. I could not believe the reviewer who described it as like the most expensive comfort blanket you will find! Oh my goodness what a put down. Some of the negativity on here astounds me. Anyway on to the fragrance. It is a beautiful creamy soft oriental fragrance. The creaminess of it is so beautiful and it’s warm, a little spicy and very silky smooth. I couid smell it on myself all day. It’s at the high price end of the Aerin fragrances and so I keep it for those days when I want to smell special and wear something quite unique. It is gorgeous!!!

I absolutely love this. It’s a semi-sweet vegetal musk, a haystack of baby heads. Soothing, calming, natural vanillic human skin aroma. It has so little projection though. I have to be within an inch of my wrist to smell it. Nobody will smell this unless you’re being intimate. It turns out that I love ambrette/musk mallow. Slightly smells like oatmeal. Hey, if anyone knows of another scent with a prominent ambrette/musk mallow that actually projects & lasts please message me. I have & adore Kilian Rolling in Love but that doesn’t project either.

✨ Wow! ✨ This one is the perfect flower scent ever IMO. It’s sweet, powdery, a bit soapy, fresh and creamy. This is a gem. I usually don’t like flowery scents but this one isn’t your usual flower perfume. To me this is a unique scent. And the longevity is amazing, on me it stays on for 5-7 hours. I really recommend this 🌸

I found this perfume in The Cosmetic Company Store (Estee Lauder and brands outlet). It was 50% off and I really wanted to try some Aerin perfumes. So it was a blind buy for me, I just reviewed the notes on Fragrantica before checkout. And it turned out to be a good purchase. What is interesting about this perfume, I get ton of compliments from others, but to me it smell GOOD but I don’t go crazy about it smelling it myself. Weird. It is nice perfume, heavy on vanilla, tonka bean and musk. It has zero freshness and feels dusty/smoky. I also get those ambrette seeds, they add a little spice touch. Floral notes are barely detectable. It is pleasant, nice, quite different from what I already own. I enjoy wearing it at night because it can get cloying if worn during day when temperatures are high. Or it can be worn Fall/Winter if you have that season in your area. The scent is really warm, cozy, comforting... Also the performance is interesting, this perfume projects CRAZY, fills up whole room BUT lasts only 5-6 hours max. Also I note some reviewers compare it to Moroccan Oil signature scent. And I agree, there is some similarities. I have to say that I probably not going to repurchase this one but I will enjoy using the bottle I own. You have to be really into heavy vanilla sweet perfumes to love it.

I have been on an Aerin Lauder sampling kick as of late. My husband really enjoys the brand and has encouraged me to try as many as I can. I have been pleased with this brand so far with Lilac Path being my favorite followed by Rose de Grasse Rouge a close second. With this brand being a bit pricey I am being careful about which I will buy full bottles of in the end. That being said I like Amberette de Noir but it isn't a love. I bought a bunch of samples but once they are gone I won't feel the need for a full bottle. This fragrance for me smells like orange blossom candy. I'm not getting as much of the musk as I expected. This is sweeter than I expected as well. My husband thinks it smells like a fancy orange liquor. He loves it. I like it. I got a large lot of samples so I will be enjoying this through the summer months. Yummy and expensive orange blossom infused desert or liquor. Edit; if I found this at a good discount I would buy it. It is a very nice sweet floral with a main focus (for me) on orange blossom and freesia. The more I wear this fragrance the more I like it.

The soft ambroxan of Aerin’s Amber Musk mixed with the playdoh vanilla facet of Dior Hypnotic Poison EDT with a stronger baking spiced gummy vanilla found in Dior Addict, along with a powdery rose and tonka bean. There’s also a burnt, sticky-sweet, caramel mixed with the rose found in Kilian LDBS balancing the powder. Way sweeter than Amber Musk and a completely different scent with all the other facets added. Projects more too but the musk isn’t as prominent even though ambrette is featured in the name. There’s a touch of musk, but for me the sweeter, powdery parts overtake the fragrance. It’s still really delicious but not your typical gourmand, in the same breath.

Ok, so it's not giving me cozy blanket vibes. It is giving SEXY SEDUCTRESS vibes. This turns into sex on my skin. APHRODISIAC. Males will follow you with this on. It's sweet, but not girly sweet. This is grown ass woman sweet. Seductive, playful, mysterious...the floral part is gorgeous, feminine, realistic. Orange blossom stands out. For whatever reason, this performs much better in cooler weather.

dlsmith1985 below describes this vibe of this scent to perfection. This is what I had envisioned CH Good Girl to be like. It’s seductive dark and mysterious. I don’t get the bitterness that others have mentioned, my skin turns it super sweet. It’s an interesting one but it’s just too sweet for me.

This is such a beautiful cozy vanilla scent that is perfect for fall. It has a touch of orange blossom, but I find it is well blended with the ambrette and tonka, it takes on a different shape from the orange blossom in say Love Don't be Shy or Parade.

All orange blossom and tonka bean for me. I wish the other florals would come out, but they don't for me.

On me this is a musky, vanilla incense bomb, very linear, and not very floral. I sense mostly orientals and woods with a dry musk. It's not that exciting but my sense from the Aerin fragrances is that they do about two notes well, the rest gets lost in the mix. What I do like about them though is that they do not feel watered down and they project and last for longer than most mass market EL fragrances.

I have been wearing this for one evening and I’m going back and forth on it. Sometimes nice and soft and cozy, slightly powdery. Other times too sweet. I will need more time with this, but I think some people will really enjoy it.

I've been on a rollercoaster with this one. I've had my bottle for almost three years now and I don't want to get rid of it because I love the scent so much. I keep coming back to it because I want to wear it so bad. Ambrette de Noir is the perfume version of a cashmere blanket. Soft, smooth, fuzzy and cozy. I love it at the atomizer and on paper, but for some weird reason it smells like cat pee on my skin. I don't understand why! I absolutely love ambrette, and most of my favorite fragrances has ambrette (smells amazing on me), so why does Ambrette de Noir smell so disgusting on me? I've tried this so many times now, but I just can't wait three hours for the ammonia note (whatever it is here) to go away before I get to the drydown. Such a shame. This would be my signature scent for fall if it smelled on me like it does on paper. Scent on paper 10/10, scent on me 1/10...

idk if it's my skin or what, but there's an unripe smell to this fragrance. i can pick up the white florals and the ambroxan, but the ambrette combo with cedar turns very very bitterly sour like unripe fruit or u know how flowers smell good but if u eat a flower it's fucking bitter? if that bitterness could be translated into a smell with added musk and ambrette, it would produce this. honestly fucking crazy how high it's priced, it smells like an old bathroom spray imo, just no. an i absolutely love ambrette, this is the first time i've been let down by ambrette 🤦🏻♀️ how's that even possible?

Ambrette is not a note that you see used in fragrances very often, let alone used to carry the scent as a dominant accord. The small number of ambrette dominant perfumes I have sampled in the past, smelt synthetic and oddly like the scent of cereal to my nose. Despite my dislike of ambrette as a note, the luxurious and eye-catching packaging of Ambrette de Noir by Aerin beckoned to me. Ambrette de Noir has a warm, musky, and subtly sweet profile. The ambrette lends a musky aroma, but before it can smell like dry cereal, the vanilla, tonka bean and ambroxan sweeten the composition. It smells surprisingly comforting and cozy, like being wrapped in a warm cashmere blanket. This fragrance is a delightful sensory experience, perfectly suited to cooler evenings and crisp, wintry weather. It also smells of quality ingredients, despite the number of synthetic notes in the scent pyramid. The floral notes are very subtle, with only a hint of orange blossom, rose and freesia. I would describe Ambrette de Noir as a warm, musky vanilla with an amber and woodsy drydown. The sillage is moderate and the longevity is quite impressive, lasting seven hours on my skin. I do enjoy Ambrette de Noir, and it has far exceeded my expectations. The grey-blue bottle with its gold detailing is stunning in person and screams luxury. What I don't agree with, is the exorbitant price. Priced higher than the other fragrances in the Aerin line, a 50ml bottle retails for $395 AUD. Ambrette de Noir is part of the 'Premier Collection,' a line composed of "magnificent flowers and rare essences gently extracted with the timeless art of distillation". Whilst I don't dispute the perfumer's artistry, I do think it is ridiculously overpriced.

31. March 2023 I see these bottles sitting on the shelves of the store at heavy discount 60% and i am tempted to buy one, cause the price of 85eur for 50ml parfum is not bad, but still i am not fully convinced. I try it time and time again, and while i really like it and am impressed by its ladting power (12hrs on my skin in colder weather), sometjing bothets me still. It is quite soft in projection and recently it occured to me that it smells just like the midstage and drydown of original Dior Addict from early 2000's. It is a dead ringer of that one, i even had to pull out one of my vintage Addict bottles, to be sure. It actually smells not much like Nature Millenaire, which i also have and use quite a lot, it lacks the cinnamony spiceness of Nature. So my problem is that i cannot wear the original Addict for personal reasons, so Ambrette noir is also bothering me in that sense. I might still buy it because i really enjoy its perfomance on my skin and overall scent (and heavily discounted price), but will i wear it?

Undoubtedly more elegant than any of these referents, Ambrette de Noir at first gives a strong impression of cedar closet sachets, hot sawdust, the lumber aisle, and clean hamster bedding; which is to say, “woods!” Processed, chopped, heated, and treated — nature’s wood, thick with slightly bitter preservatives. Next, a musky cloud of vanilla powder starts to take over, softening the woody sharpness and settling into a sweet, warm, orangey skin scent — more orange peel than orange blossom. A sexy dreamsicle, if you will, undergirded by a sweet, woody amber. The vanilla has floral nuances, as in VC&A Orchidee Vanille. There is also a hard-to-describe, creamy richness here: an “addictive” factor that makes me move my wrist to my nose nearly compulsively, and this can’t even be said for every one of my so-called favorite fragrances. Ambroxan is an iffy note for me, but when it’s given the sort of shimmery, crystalline treatment I detect here (the sweeter the better), it’s my catnip.

What a unique scent....the presentation of this scent is completely wrong to me. The bottle should be a burnt orange, not purple. It's a unique scent that does indeed remind me of amber, tonka, woods, vanilla, and even Moroccan oil. Nothing at all comes out as a floral in this one. Definitely not finding a bit of similarity to any other scent I have tried or own, which I always appreciate. I don't love it, and I don't hate it. I will use my sample vials this winter and it's unique enough to enjoy for now 😊

Tried this scent on and immediately thought of another brilliant Cresp creation, Yves Rocher's discontinued Nature Millenaire. Made me very happy to find a current perfume that is similar to that all-time favourite. Dark and spicy but with no hard edges. Once I've purchased Ambrette de Noir I shall try the 2 scents side by side. :) If you, like me, are a Nature Millenaire fan, maybe this fine Aerin scent could be a decent replacement.

It is I! I could smell it for a moment and now I can't smell it again. Was nice while it lasted.

This is a really soft, subtle yet deep intoxicating scent. It's really hard to describe it but the Ambrette, tonka and vanilla are the main notes. Tiny hints of floral. To me it kind of has the same vibe as Glossier You. Not the same scent exactly but the same vibe - kind of a natural musk type of scent. Fell in love w it while testing it at Nordstrom (and smelled like it even after showering).

I smelled this perfume the other day, and OH MY. I just could not stop smelling my wrist! It has this seductive, warm, and familiar scent to it, but with a unique twist. It is hard to explain. Also, this is long-lasting!! Every time I would put my hand up, I got a whiff of the scent - I could also smell it on my wrist at the end of the day! Overall, a pretty good perfume in my opinion.

Wow this is different, yet reminding me of something I’ve smelt before I can’t put my finger on. This is strong dusty, floral with a thick almost bitter smell that reminds me of cigarettes or someone that smokes. But in the best way! Lol It smells like money but I’m not sure if it’s for me.

I love this! It smells so comforting and delicate. It’s sweet but surprisingly not really close to anything I have that’s why I bought it at first sniff. This is going to be perfect for date nights or outings with the girls. It’s very sensual and sexy smelling!!

I love this one. It's definitely not a scent for girls. It strikes me as a dark seductive fragrance a mysterious woman would wear in a rich speakeasy kind of place. The kind of woman that could put men in a trance and lead them to their demise in a Noir film.

I think it smells like the entirety of a clean and healthy woman. I’m surprised that Aerin went there, because I don’t think a warm floral can get more provocative than something like this. That said, it’s soft, nuanced, and very easy to wear.

Top notes make me think of a plasticky vinyl doll and heliotrope, with a powdery vanilla and tonka dry down. It is a feminine, soft and cosy fragrance but I feel it needs a little freshness for relief, as it can be a little cloying.

At first sniff, I am getting Tangier Vanille mixed with Ariana Grande Cloud! I plan to wear it all day and see how it changes on me. I LOVE Tangier Vanille for the tonka/musk and was seeking a variant of it.

It actually says in store a note for this fragrance is incense. Despite an absolutely stunning opening - on the dry down I am getting mainly incense. Due to the dry down I won’t be getting this one :(

There is a dark resin that's not listed in the notes. It's very resinous . I don't detect any ambrette or peony. This reminds me of a lot the myrh and tonka by jl. But this is a lot darker....

This smells just like root beer/sassafrass. Dont get me wrong it is lovely, just very expensive root beer smell. Smells a lot like Escada Collection if you remember that one.

If you ever wanted a fragrance that smells like Moroccanoil, look no further. This is it. And it's absolutely beautiful.
