Cedar Violet

I went into the Cosmetics Company Store after finding out its an Estee Lauder store that carries their brands and Tom Ford is 60% off. I sprayed this Cedar Violet on my hand. It was so beautiful immediately. It seemed to sit close to my skin with no sillage. Still beautiful nonetheless. Im not typically a woody girl. This isnt the typical woody perfume. Gosh this is so warm, sultry, inviting and enticing. It was 50% off but I left the store to see how it would wear. As I left, a young lady 5 ft behind me stopped me and sd, "Ma'am...WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?" I asked her had she ever heard of Aerin? She sd, "No, but Im about to find out." She took out her phone to take down the information. Sounds like this is a winner for sure!

Finally! Added to the database so that we can provide our reviews. This is truly unisex. Reminiscent of some male forward cedar perfumes such as Loccitane Cedrat. Perhaps a couple of others, I cannot remember. It is fresh, opens up with green floral bouquet then turns into sandalwood and I smell cedar on the dry down. No spice, no sugar, nothing intense or overbearing to my nose. The notes listed here are incomplete. The are more notes than what is listed. We have a fresh floral start that is somewhat feminine, then turns into woods/cedar which is more masculine. This is a well balanced perfume. Perfect for warm weather and early fall/late spring.

Oooh wow I really really love this one! Not my usual notes of preference but I might have to start expanding my tastes. This smells like the most sophisticated soap, it's so creamy and well blended I can't stop smelling my hand. I get some woodsy notes too but mainly violet. If this perfume was a place it would be taking a shower in a very fancy moden bathroom, stepping out, and looking out the window with a view of mountains and forests. Like a mountain resort or something. Also love the bottle, I think the color of the cap really matches the weird scenario I imagine smelling this fragrance

Two years ago I got the candle for free when i bought another perfume, I loved it, but didn't buy it. A week ago I tested fleur de peony and cedar violet. A spray on each hand, I kept coming back to cedar voilet, it was soft and warm and floral but woody. It seemed to really come alive in the heat of the sun. On my skin it's lovely and lasted a full day. Even with washing my hands, I want to believe this is an all year scent but i won't know for sure for a while. I also think it's both a day and a night scent. I bought a full bottle today.

This fragrance was a love at first sniff for me. I was shocked at how much I loved it! It is very soft and it feels like MY scent but better. May sound weird, but it makes me feel safe and understood. I never knew that was even a thing. I get lots of migraines so I tend to shy away from heavier fragrances. I feel like this would be appropriate anytime, anywhere. I know it's hard to tell in the early days of a brand new relationship, but I feel like this is the beginning of a beautiful one. Could be a lifer?

I love this perfume so much. It's such a beautiful and expensive-smelling woodsy floral. There's a comment that describes this as expensive violet soap and a wood-paneled steam room, which I 100% agree with. Sillage is pretty weak, but that's something I usually prefer. It's the kind of perfume that you would grow to associate with hugging someone. The longevity is all right, maybe 2-3 hours. For the price, I wish that it lasted longer but it's so gorgeous that I can't resist it.

On me, this is more cedar than violet. It's reminiscent of a clean sheet of expensive scented stationery, paper and pencil shavings with a touch of white floral and amber. It's lovely, understated, and clean - the scent of a calm, organised woman who speaks her mind, but never raises her voice. Sillage is weak, but the basenotes last for a while close to skin. I can smell remnants 6-7 hours on. I love it. I will be wearing it all autumn.

Why is this so underrated? It’s gorgeous. I only have a tester but I need a full bottle like yesterday. I like it more than Hibiscus Palm. Edit: I now have a full bottle. I love it. One of the best fragrance I’ve ever tried and I think my current fave i my collection. So fresh but still deep and sophisticated. Very soothing. I’m in love.

To me this smells very fresh and green, but the green scent is a ”sweet green” type of green it isn’t sharp at all. The drydown is very white floral and woodsy. To me this has a masculine touch to it even though it is more on the feminine side. The bottle is gorgeous. I’m glad to have this as a everyday scent for fall/winter

It smells as the notes describe. The perfect balance of floral and woody I absolutely love it! This could honestly be worn in any season. I like to spray DS & Durga Radio Bombay over top to amplify the warm cedar notes. It makes me feel grounded and confident with just the right touch of floral feminity.

A cozy spring retreat to your cabin in the mountains. Not overly sweet, gender neutral (though leans feminine in my opinion), and quite delicate. Not quite enough staying power. My go to fragrance for now. Perfect for in between seasons just as the leaves are starting to fall or bud.

I really enjoy this perfume. It is simple. But that simplicity is very impressive with these notes. It sits close to the skin. It is a great daily perfume. Safe enough for work but beautiful enough to be a signature scent.

Pretty little soft delicate powdery violets with semi sweet florals floating on top of sweet dry woods. I love this especially in warm weather. A small scent cloud that simply beautiful!

This is so lovely and very comforting. I sniff it and feel myself calm down. Doesn’t project as much as I normally am looking for in perfumes but it doesn’t bother me.

The nicest soap I've ever smelled. That's what this reminds me of. I was expecting more violet, but it's not disappointing as a softly woody floral scent.

As Estée Lauder suggests, layer with Aerin Amber Musk. Beautiful and long lasting. Woody with smoother edges. Gardenia and Amber add the polish.

Such an underrated scent! It smells just like fresh linens-- super clean, soft, warm, and floral. Definitely recommend!!

Cedar violet smells like expensive woods at a lumber yard with touches of violet and spice. Unisex IMO. If you like Ormande Jayne Woman you will like this as well. But instead of black hemlock cedar is the star here. I get images of a cedar chest filled with dried flowers, old love letters with faded perfume still clinging to them. And lots of memories. I really like this one a shame it was discontinued. If I can find this for a good deal, I will pick it up. It really makes me feel like I am smelling a hope chest full of memories. A perfume for those quiet contemplative days. Serious, but calming. Edit: If you like Blocki For Walks you will like Aerin's Cedar Violet. All 3 are woody violets but they are different enough that they fill a nice spot in a woody violet lover like myself collection. Edit:4/20/25 I wear this fragrance all the time and I have a big collection. I honestly don't get the complaints about performance. This fragrance performs very well and it is a beautiful creamy floral wood. Elegant yet casual enough for everyday.

Cedar Violet is very pretty, but like all the Aerin frags, it seems a bit overpriced to me for what it is. I don't regret my purchase of the travel spray, though. It's a beautiful woody (sandalwood and cedar are most prominent on my skin), soapy scent with just the slightest hint of florals. It brings to mind a very clean person who has just scrubbed her (or his--this is very gender neutral) skin with an expensive violet-scented soap and is sitting in one of those fancy wood-paneled steam rooms. A luxury spa scent more than a perfume per se. This would be a great choice for someone who works in an office or with the public because it wears very close to the skin and might be mistaken for residual soap. Update: Just go ahead and get Violet Eyes by Elizabeth Taylor if you want a violet-cedar fragrance. The sandalwood in the Aerin is nicer, and the overall effect is quieter, but I don't think the Aerin is appreciably superior, despite the enormous price differential. Update: Also quite similar to Sheer Violet hair perfume by Kitsch.

Strangely, I got almost nothing at first - as if I've just sprayed water or maybe unscented hairspray on my arm instead of perfume. As it dries down, the slightest bit of a fragrance comes through. It is so light, however, I had to spray again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. I checked the reviews and read rosequeen's experience with the same 7 ml tester I purchased. Then, for science, I sprayed a bunch into a container just to see if, like that user, the scent would intensify after more was sprayed out. Long story short, it really didn't seem to make much of a difference. Truth be told, it is super, super lightly scented. If you are someone who is easily overpowered by fragrances, maybe this is for you. I've tried most of the Aerin line, and while some are somewhat subtle, I own full bottles of others (Evening Rose and Wild Geranium) that have decent projection and lasting power. This could be lovely if it was ten times stronger, but otherwise it's just kind of a tragedy that it's so weak that it can hardly be appreciated.

The first week I had this, this perfume felt incredibly nostalgic to me. It brought to mind crisp white shirts, cathedrals, old books, and hidden gardens. Turns out I was remembering my high school days, because this smells exactly like the violet soap the nuns supplied our bathrooms with. Now it smells like demerits and math homework, and falling asleep during Friday mass. Edit: I must have severely oversprayed this to get such a strong aquatic violet note that last time. Sprayed in moderation, the soapyness is still notable, but the woody cedar and creamy sandalwood really tone in down a notch. Definitely still evokes memories of my school days, but now it feels more grown up, elegant, and slightly resort-y. Still figuring out when to best wear this (I don't think humidity helps with the aquatic violet note) but I'm definitely keeping my bottle. That said, I don't think this is a perfume that will ever atract compliments from others. This is a scent that one wears only for themselves- definitely test it before you buy it.

This is the least cloying Aerin perfume I've tested. It has a soapy-floral scent on my skin that reminds me of soaps from the 1990s. I might give it more tries. Update: After a few days of trying, the soapy violet smell started to annoy me. You may understand my feelings if you try to constantly sniff a violet-scented soap. Longevity is quite impressive to me both on my skin and on fabric. I can still smell it after wearing it for a whole day and never got nose blinded. Update Oct 2024: This smells exactly like my laundry after being washed by Tide with Oxi liquid laundry detergent sold by Costco. That explains why I found it soapy!

I spritzed this yesterday while at the mall. This is natural, pleasant, has a freshness about it. This is unique - I really like this style of fragrance, particularly after realizing that I like Calvin Klein's Beauty. This smells familiar - (I cheated and looked at the reviews)... but yes, I think they are absolutely right when they say that this is very similar to Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Seasalt. This is one to explore further. I didn't pay attention to how this developed throughout the wear, but I really loved the way that this first smelled.

I like this. At first spray I get unisex vibes as the cedar is pronounced and peppery and the violet is lightly sharp and clean smelling. Once it dries down, the violet note turns more purple flowery and sweet, but the cedar remains brisk. One has to enjoy a cedar based fragrance as there is no missing the cedar here. It ends up being unisex lean feminine, but as I guy I could see myself wearing this to the office. I nice, expensive smelling fragrance that is one of the better offerings from the Aerin line. Thumbs up

i definitely thought i liked this scent more in the store than i did when i brought it home, but it's grown on me! it's very ozonic, almost leafy and green, but at the same time smells like a powdery violet candy? i wish there was a bit more emphasis on the woody facets, it definitely reads more fresh/aromatic to me. a good work fragrance though, it's soft and not screechy, slight projection and moderate longevity. not the best aerin frag imo but pretty lovely!

First spray of this has notes within it which remind me of Versace Chrystal Noir, there is a fresh shampoo type smell which is slightly less potent than Versace Chrystal Noir. I just briefly tried this yesterday at Nordstroms. I liked the initial spray, but this dries down fairly soft the longer this wears. I will need to sample this one again, this has potential, but may be one of the perfumes which I can only detect - 2 to 3 hours after spraying.

Just got my travel size last week and I adore it. Creamy sandalwood with a touch of violet, just a perfect fall fragrance. And then everyone in my family started asking why I smell like dill pickles. I still love it though... Edit: Wore it yesterday when I saw my 70 something mother who told me I smelled like her dead grandmother. Pretty sure she just meant the fragrance she must’ve worn lol, but it’s official — the entire family hates it.

Lovely combination of flowery and woody notes. Lily-of-the-Valley, gardenia and sandalwood are the most prominent ones to my nose. The sandalwood adds a calming creaminess to an otherwise very powdery fragrance. Once dried down, I mostly smell lily-of-the-valley and gardenia, which makes this a great perfume for white flower lovers, but who prefer their scents on the more powdery than indolic side.

I received this as a gift and wore it for 2 weeks straight. One night I spritzed this on myself before going to bed and as I laid in bed I kept getting whiffs of Mojave Ghost by Byredo. That is when I realized that they smelled similar and explains why I was addicted to this scent for those 2 weeks. It reminded me of one of my favorite scents in my collection.

Im not a big fan of cedar or violet but I love this! Its so smooth, creamy, comforting but at the same time smells classy and put-together Sandalwood definitely plays a big supporting role here and I love that its the creamy type of sandalwood One of those fragrances you stop smelling on yourself but others will definitely smell on you

This definitely pulls predominantly cedar on pmy skin. Middle notes dry down to a little more floral, but you really have to like cedar in order to appreciate this Fragrance. This was a blind buy for me as I typically enjoy all a Aerin fragrances. I don’t dislike it, but not sure I love it either so undecided on if I will keep it.

Honestly really glad I blind bought this. Cedar Violet smells green, woody, soft, and quietly elegant. The violet leaf keeps it fresh while the cedar and sandalwood make it feel clean and cozy at the same time. It’s not loud or overly sweet, just very effortless and classy in a “cool woman with her life together” kind of way.

I've been wanting to smell this ever since I saw the notes and the name. I am a violet fanatic. Immediately when I got a whiff of it, Mojave Ghost by Byredo came to mind. I feel it is a softer, less sharp version of it. The blend of wood and floral is done so well. Super elegant and classy.

Makes me think of the color purple . It’s a lovely slightly soapy floral with a warm amber and sandal wood. It’s almost a bit powder but a fresh powder but it’s still comfortable and warm because of the amber.need to layer this with Amber Musk as it’s suggested in the Aerin site

Very light and elegant. Starts out sour, but dries down a warm, woody scent with a very natural violet- the kind you can smell in the woods, not the violet-candy-kind. Very classy, barely there kind of scent (like many Aerin perfumes are).

Very cedar and violet. Simplistic but pretty. Rather close to the skin. True cedar scent. Natural violets. Innocent. Travel spray is enough, for I do not imagine needing such a scent in big bottle.

Lovely woody violet. Yes, those are modern "molecular" woods, but here it works. I really like the creaminess of gardenia here, just a touch, somewhere on the background.

Definitely stronger on the cedar than violet. Dont love it. Much perfer Hibiscus Palm from this brand.

I like many of Aerin fragrances. They tend to be soft, elegant, or gorgeous. Nothing loud, screechy, or soapy. Definitely not heavy or strong, which I prefer. But there are three that really don’t work for me: this, hibiscus palm, and agea blossom. Individual notes in the three are fine. But for some reason maybe some of these notes in combination just don’t work for me. As for cedar violet, it just repels me. Maybe I just don’t like a certain accord combined with cedar, I am not sure. Cedar on its own, I don’t find it objectionable. Thankfully I only have a travel size of CV. AL recommends layering this with amber musk, which I like. I have not tried the combination. I will see if it makes cedar violet more tolerable. I hope it does. Update: 2/6/2023. Two sprays of amber musk and 1 spray of CV actually work pretty well. I think this is the only way I will use CV, not on its own.

Wanted to try Cedar Violet because I love violet/violet leaf and woody and amber fragrances, and recently got a sample. CV opens as a very green scent, with a soft cedar-ness lying underneath. However the green note is closer to fig/fig leaf than it is to violet leaf - it has that coconut-like quality that I always seem to get from fig. Soon afterward I do start to smell a violet-like floral note peeking through. Somewhere between one to two hours, it had dried down to a soft woody-soapy scent, and the best way to describe it in my mind was that it reminded me of shampoo. I never did notice anything that reminded me of the resin-vanilla scent of amber. Overall, CV is a nice and unisex perfume, clean and not overbearing. Just not one that makes me happy or interested enough to wear or add to my collection.

I love this one on paper, and I love it in the air, but once this perfume dried on my skin all I could smell was sour-ness. On paper it smelled sweet, powdery, and beautiful! But on my skin it turned sour&bitter... Hopefully you all have better luck with it

I’d call this a clean mild fragrance that leans more woody then floral, very gender neutral. The soapy sandalwood in this is the one thing I don’t like, both the cedar and the violet are lovely. But the soapiness of the sandalwood pushes them out of frame.

Straight from the beginning, this is a strong sandalwood (with very little cedar). A sweet white floral is hided behind and shows itself more and more with time. Too sweet for my taste. The drydown is better : still sandalwood but with a clean floral note.

I don’t smell Lillies, I don’t smell Gardenia, Violet? Where? This is a barbershop musky cedar wood. That’s it! I bought a small size blindly because I love Violets and it was 50% OFF Regretted it immediately

Cedar Violet is clean and quite nice. Agree it’s more cedar than violet as others have mentioned with a little gardenia poking through. I don’t get any Lilly. Sandalwood is soft and smooth. 100% unisex.

Violet scents can feel too mature for my taste, and this scent is almost too strong for my nose. It overwhelms.

Scrubbed it off when I got home. It’s ok but way too strong for me. I prefer skin scents. Personal preference
