Tangier Vanille

I absolutely ADORE this gorgeous perfume!!!! I fall more in love with it, every minute of every day (I got it a week ago, a blind-buy, and I CAN'T wear any other perfume now!!). At first, with the very first spray, I thought it was very nice; lovely. But as the day went on, I found myself liking it more.....and more.....and HAD to wear it the next day, and the next.........ad infinitum!!! It's so beautifully and mysteriously oriental, soft, creamy, delicious, rich dark vanilla, deep rose, a crisp tangy bergamot, soft comforting musk and sandalwood, and meltingly smooth amber, melding the whole glorious, simple but fulsome concoction together. It definitely has a mysterious, secret, hidden-depth feel, and all the ingredients come to the surface in various ways, at various times, giving one a gentle thrill each time. My husband adores it too, and can smell me a room away. Anyway, it now permeates our whole house, beautifully, gently, which we both relish. It has a delightfully gentle but far-reaching sillage, and lasts and lasts so well!!! I spray it on around 4am, and can still smell it beautifully in bed after 11pm!!!!! And everywhere I go, people tell me how beautiful I smell!!! It's my favourite perfume at the moment. By far. I think I'm addicted to it!!! And God I also adore the cute little bottle! It's such a lovely, aesthetically pleasing, well-crafted design: so solid, and has such smoothly rounded edges; the label is exquisite; and the cap is fabulous! Lifts off and clicks on in the most perfect way, and is the perfect colour representation of the 'feel' of the fragrance - it looks like a beautiful chocolate-coloured gemstone - in fact that's also apt, because the perfume does have a softly chocolate smell!!! Everything about it is perfect!! God I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tangier Vanille!!!!! I never want to be without it. Ever!

This is an expensive fragrance that smells like an expensive, rich, deep, warm, nuanced vanilla! Very smooth, cozy, enveloping scent. I will say it right from the beginning, I love Aerin Lauder’s collection of fragrances. In all honesty, not all worth the high price simply because of how poor they perform. But if would perform better, I would have more of them... With all that out of the way, Tangier Vanille is an exquisite example of how to create an excellent, elegant, vanilla perfume with a good performance! It’s not a beastly scent but on clothing is long lasting. Projection could be better, but it’s not terrible for the first hours. And it’s very addictive smells... How does it smell then?? Like the most gourmand, moderate sweet, expensive vanilla cake. But it has facets. In Tangier Vanille I can say that I distinguish all the notes listed throughout the fragrance lifetime on my skin. Opens with a burst of bergamot and fresh rose, then slowly transforms into a full on warm vanilla with smooth, creamy sandalwood. It’s a super rich and dark type of vanilla, tincture, probably better sourced than other vanilla forward scents currently sold. I would say that it’s fairly comparable to Kayali’s Vanilla 28 or YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, but smells more natural, realistic and refined! It’s not a dupe of this two, but if you’re looking for something more elegant smelling, maybe sample Tangier Vanille. I am aware that it’s more expensive than the other two, but in my opinion it’s worth. This is an old money kind of vanilla! I would like to project better for the price, I am not going to lie but I am satisfied with the performance. What lacks in performance, compensates in quality and smell. And luxurious presentation, it’s a notch above the others two..

This is my very favourite perfume of all time!! I Love it - so much! It has become my signature scent. I fell totally in love at first sniff (which was about a month ago), and have been falling more and more in love with it ever since. It has completely taken me over - all other perfumes have become NOT right anymore - even the most favoured. I just can't wear anything else now. It's completely me. It's the one I feel the most happy and comfortable in. I feel at peace - at rest. At home. But I keep thinking, surely I need a change? Usually I change perfumes often, as I get bored quickly, but, no! Every time I put something else on.......nah! I want my Tangier Vanille!!! God! It's never happened to me before! I love it sooooo much. It's so smooth and creamy and delicious. So yummy, so comforting, and has such fabulous smells of rose and bergamot, and amber and musk and sandalwood - they all show themselves beautifully as the day goes on - but it's the heavenly Madagascar vanilla that is the angel of this wonder! It gives me such a feel of the Orient - Morocco - the fabulous bazaars, and the palaces and gardens, the splendour of all the smells and colours. It's such a rich and chocolately vanilla; so sweet but not at all sickly. Deep and sensual; slightly spicy. Warm. Womanly. It's simply the most perfect perfume!!!!!

UPDATE: What I love in here is clearly tonka, though it is not listed as a note. Perhaps amber and musk create the same effect? Two to try are Commodity Tonka and Solinotes Tonka -- see if you smell what I do, if you love Tangier Vanille! === My sister has expensive and good taste in fragrance and loves vanilla. She told me she wears this, so I ordered a sample. I was so surprised and delighted to experience Skin Musk all the way, baby! Just much more expensive ingredients and a tad more vanilla. I wore Skin Musk as a college student, and the smell is very dear to me. And yes, back then, I felt a 1 oz bottle was on the high side at $7 at the drugstore, lol. People told me my cat smelled of it, aww. You can still get it, made by a different company than Bonne Bell but a pretty good reformulation. Said to be beloved by Sarah Jessica Parker whom I hoped would make something in this vein, but alas, she did not. Aerin Lauder was born in 1970 and HAS to know of this scent. I beg you to try them side by side and report back. TV dries down to a lovely spicy vanilla musk. Why is a big bottle almost $200? The mention of PlayDoh and plastic notes are a plus for me (does that make me weird?), so tell me other scents that have this.

(Mostly copying my spreadsheet notes here in hopes someone else finds them helpful!) How many vanilla scents do I really need? I ask myself this every time I try another, lol. This is another dry vanilla, a bit close to my Diptique Eau Duelle (of which I own both the EDP and EDT), so I don't think I'll purchase a full bottle. It has a bit more cinnamon/cloves than Diptique, and perhaps a boozy note that Diptique doesn't have. It's a very nice vanilla, but I'm not sure I need another spicy, dry vanilla scent. Instead, I'll keep my rich Guerlain SDV as a contrast to Eau Duelle; later note--this is really pretty. I love how this is a vanilla with spirit and how the amber emerges, warm and woodsy. Sooo . . . who knows what I'll do, but this is pretty, for sure. I was surprised that rose is in the scent profile, as I didn't notice it at first; now in the dry down, I can find it, floating gently in the back of the scent. This is a lovely vanilla with a bit of spirit, but so feminine, soft and lovely. I suspect it projects poorly, but I have a dabber sample instead of an atomizer, so hard to know. I do not get the play-dough scent others noted. I smell each note and find this to be wonderfully complex and interesting.

Tangier Vanille is so exceptionally beautiful. I love it. And I didn't expect much of it, I suspected it would be some simple overpriced vanilla, also I often read Aerin's fragrances were all thin and weak. Oh, what a lovely surprise this was! I already loved it on the test strip, and on my skin it smells almost a little better. I can smell all the listed notes in Tangier Vanille. Vanilla and sandalwood are the main players, musk and balsams round the scent and rose and bergamot add some fresh and uplifting notes. But the whole is more than the sum of its parts. This is very warm, creamy and balmy, deliciously vanillic and very feminine. It's sweet and alluring, not like baked goods and candy, but like a really good vanilla oriental. It has a great projection without being intrusive. A very refined scent with that certain clarity that makes it smell expensive, like high quality ingedrients that are blended together virtuosically. It doesn't have a huge developement, but it doesn't need to, it just smells lovely from the start until the end. Sadly this is not exactly a bargain, but I will definitely get a bottle of this elegant beauty one day.

This is a great perfume. Very elegant, demure, rich and smooth. It's very lovely, simple yet complex in the feelings it evokes; it has an air of mystery - of things hidden - of secret places of pleasure. The vanilla is deep and dark, softly spicy. The rose is rich and smooth. The bergamot offers a crisp refreshing lift. The amber binds everything together beautifully. And the sandalwood does it's usual sensual and comforting thing. I don't agree at all that this perfume shows that Aerin doesn't like vanilla; in fact I believe it actually expresses quite the opposite - that she highly respects the essence. She has shown it in a very romantic light. It's exquisitely womanly, exotic and alluring. It draws people to one. I find I'm always having people come close to sniff me, and saying how attractive and gentle and captivating my perfume is. I think it's quite perfect.

This has been my signature scent! I love it so much. Almost every night, one spray is enough. Even in the summer I used it as a night scent. Clean amber, bulgarian rose and vanillamusc femimin scent that becomes a beautiful madagascar vanilla after a looong drydown. I spray 1-2 sprays a couple of times a day or before night time. It does not last at skin much but I have to capture it under clothing, between clothing and skin. This way it stays until clothing is washed. I like it best as a night scent. It can be really Vanilla heavy if I wear it at daytime. After owning this near a year the top note of the scent has changed. It is less vanilic in top note. A little mens barbercream smell to it at first. But after that it is better than before. my little daughter say it smells sooo good, like you mom.

Tangier Vanille is superb. It's my second favourite of all perfumes. I think it's so beautiful. It's so soft and creamy, lovely Madagascan vanilla, softly spicy and dark, with the most elegant rose, tangy bergamot, luscious sandalwood, smooth and light musk, and dreamy amber. It's a lovely oriental, with a hint of magical secrets. It lasts gently on my skin and in the air around me forever, and everyone loves it when I wear it. I get heaps and heaps of compliments all the time. More than most of my other perfumes. It's amazing. It's such a dream of a perfume. I also have the body cream, and it's also divine. So soft and very creamy. It makes my skin feel ravishing. The scent is soft, delicate, and comforting.

I have two sides of vanilla perfume: one is Tangier Vanille, which is (to date) my most expensive perfume purchase. This perfume is vanilla that doesn't let you know it is the vanilla that you find in sickeningly sweet candy shops. No, she's not like that. She is the vanilla that you will want to chase after ever so subtly. She is the vanilla that makes your nose have a mind of its own to follow the trail. She is subtle, a little flirty, and suave. It's the perfect vanilla for me (so far)! I love the combination of powdery floral and vanilla, which are a few of my favorite notes. The other side of the vanilla perfume is Eilish but I will get to that in that perfume.

I like floral scents in general. But I like this vanilla scent a lot, maybe the most sophisticated one I have smelled for the accord. I don’t get the play doh scent. It has a slight bitterness to keep the vanilla in check. Very well formulated. I love that it’s not a gourmand. So, so nice. Update: 09/15/2023. This layers so well with Aerin’s Limone di Sicilia Update: 11/15/2023. Estée Lauder and Aerin online no longer have this on their websites. It may have been discontinued. How unfortunate because my partner and I both love this. Today, he told me this is the best one he has smelled so far, and I have dozens of perfumes.

I saw this in the department store and sprayed some on as I was walking out. A few minutes later I turned around and went back to the store as I needed a bottle of this in my life. I tried to purchase the 100ml bottle but they only had the 50ml so I bought it straight away and ordered the 100ml. This is a gorgeous vanilla, very easy to wear and so elegant and stunning! It reminds me of Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang (which I think is discontinued now??)... so if you liked Amber Ylang Ylang and you miss that one, you have to try this new one from Aerin. It is worth the money! LOVE IT.

I'm really loving this one. Straight out of the bottle, I definitely smell the Play-Doh vibe that others are mentioning. I even get a Play-Doh smell on the skin for about the first 10 minutes, but that is short-lived (thankfully). This turns into a delicious, and slightly boozy, gourmand vanilla. This is a fragrance where I can't stop smelling my wrists...it's so good! The lasting power on me is fantastic, I get about 10-12 hours, with a moderate sillage. I'm not a huge fan of the price. As much as I love this, I'm not convinced that the price is justified. Even so, I want a full bottle!

This is a lovely vanilla amber! This was love at first sniff for me. The down side is that this does not last at all. I over spray and it's a skin scent that fades away. This is the type of fragrance that if you really love it, you'll have to carry a travel size or decant with you to touch up multiple times through the day. Otherwise, I have nothing but good things to say about this scent. It's absolutely gorgeous.

This is an intimate perfume like most of this brand.It is comforting and it sits very close to the skin.Amber is the star in dry down and vanilla ... what can I say ? ... true to the name, nicely done but maybe too pricey for that only. I like the aerin line ,but I don't own any bottle just because I am not into this intimacy kind of feeling with my perfumes.

Absolutely masterful. The opening is a powder citrus vanilla. I can see the playdoh comparison, but to me it is more like taffy gum. Extremely refined, the rose is not overpowering and the bergamot is just beautiful. Smells languorously exotic to me even though it has no hint of spice or incense. It has me completely captivated definitely bottle-worthy.

I really love vanilla, and have so many perfumes that are either vanilla dominant (like almost exclusively vanilla) and others where you can smell all the other ingredients too. I’ve never gotten the Play-Doh smell others talk about-until now. It was overwhelmingly JUST Play-Doh on me and reminded me of when I used to work at a preschool.

A perfume with a beautiful addictive dry down of a mixture of musk, vanilla and amber. But it sure take its own sweet time to dry down. I was about given up hope then it kicked in. Lovely. Personally didn’t enjoy the bergamot and rose opening much. Edit: my shirt came back from the laundry smelling of vanilla musk, guess which perfume.

This is a very nice soft vanilla scent that I really, really think is growing on me in a big way. I normally don't go for vanilla anything. I got this in a coffret set and I love this one! Its a very soft, sweet scent that is just so cozy and nice. Like a warm, creamy desert that is not too rich. I need this.

I can’t believe I have been sitting on a bottle of this for years. I have recently got really into vanilla fragrances and rediscovered this one. It is so beautiful. Warm, cozy, powdery and comforting. If you love vanilla this is a very safe blind buy.

A rather simple but delicious warm cozy vanilla with a mix of sweet, woody and resinous notes to make it elegant. Nothing childish or candy like here. It’s so easy to love you can’t help but smile and enjoy the enveloping cocoon.

This smells so lovely, cosy, and warm.

On me, this is the longest lasting Aerin perfume, with about 8 hours of soft vanilla. I get the sandalwood, a bit of citrus, and the occasional whiff of plasticky vanilla, like a child's toy or play doh. However, that plastic smell does not last and thankfully this is mostly pleasant. I like my sample, but Aerin's prices prevent me from buying a full bottle. ETA: After a spray at about 8 pm, I woke the next morning with my cleavage smelling of a citrusy vanilla meringue. My body heat and chemistry turned this into something spectacular. Still won't buy a full bottle when I get the same effect from Atelier Vanille Insensee, but I can appreciate how nice Tangier Vanille can be. ETAA: Wow...12 -15 hours...okay I may have to change my mind about this one. My ginger cat, Leo, was just licking my wrist, so longevity and cat magnet, this one has it all. :)

To me Tangier vanilla smells like Youth Dew in the farthest dry down. In other words like if you took all the spices, aldehyde, excessive woods, vetiver, and florals out of Youth Dew and what was left was the base and then you added more sugar and vanilla you would end up with this. I can see this compared to Creeds Vanisia as well but I like Tangier vanilla better. It is more elegant. The coca cola vibe is toned down here. I can see this being an excellent date night fragrance. You will smell sensual without being overt or appearing like you are trying to hard to impress. This is the type of vanilla I am attracted towards, vanilla doesn't have to be foody to smell sensual. Tangier vanilla proves this.

This is an arid, paper thin, vanilla (in a grrrreat way!) I find this intriguing & unique, even as I’m becoming vanilla fatigued, sadly. Because it’s *not sweet* it really does call the desert to mind. This makes for a great alternative to Amber Musc, especially for those sensitive to ambroxan. The ambroxan is restrained here: a departure from Amber Musc. (I don’t mind ambroxan, but A.M. is a bit much.) T.V. is less woody. These two are different enough to own both, if you like ambery vanilla scents. Soft projection, but above average longevity, if that meets your preference. A delightful, but pricey treat. My want list is too long, but I realllly like this.

An easy reach: vanilla, sandalwood and musk scent. It smells like a lot of others, most notabley YSL Cinema. Done before and better; like it but don't love it. Edit: 8 hours later...... I can still smell this scent, albeit faintly. it’s very simple, but also more appealing. Dammit. I think I’m a sucker for good quality vanillas.

Testing my sample; this is a fluffy & musky vanilla-amber, a lot like cosmetic setting powder. Opens a touch tangy and rosy, but those notes recede fairly quickly as it develops. Sits slightly above the skin and while not a major projector, definitely sticks close. Autumn & winter-appropriate, I'd wager even cool spring days.

I got so excited during the first couple minutes because it smelled enough like PCAYY to be a suitable replacement, but then it quickly dried down to a simple vanilla-centric, citrus-ambery affair. Disappointing. In stark contrast to PCAYY, which is a complex floriental with an ambery base.

totally wasn't expecting! extremely amber vanilla in thr opening but dries down to reveal the musk, kind of powdery nutty to me. Unfortunately doesn't last on my skin, but performs better on clothes. Recommend! very well-blended as in Guerlain l'Art & la matière

I like this fragrance, but for some reason my nose doesn't detect strong vanilla in this. It's mixed with other warmer notes which dominate - must be the sandalwood and amber. I am still pleased I bought it. I feel mature and classy when I wear this.

This literally does what it says on the bottle, its a tangy vanilla, but don't be at all put off if your not overly keen on citrus fragrances, its very much a beautiful vanilla with a mild tang, lovely

I get a play dough scent on the paper strip but it's probably better on skin. Update: it smells identical on my skin but its also very pretty. It's just a little vinegary.

For me, this fragrance reminds me of opening a bag of loose leaf, black, vanilla tea. The spice is present, yet subtle. It's pleasant, but not particularly remarkable.

Tangier Vanille is the cold season version of Cinema and I love it! It’s a sweet musky warm vanilla and amber bomb with a soft bergamot and rose. Stunner.

A sweet, cozy amber vanilla. Pretty linear. Good sillage and longevity, but I wouldn't pay Aerin prices for this.

It’s a sweet lovely vanilla with rose and a little extra from the bergamot. A nice summer perfume.

Crowd pleasing soft smooth vanilla.

I was eager to sample Tangier Vanille and very happy when I had a decant in the mail today. I was hoping for a cuddly but not cloying relaxing scent, maybe for bedtime. While this is not bad, I am not overwhelmed. After a very short tangy opening, the top notes almost immediately dissipate. The vanilla is there but is being overruled by the amber. After an hour or so, a tiny hint of sandalwood comes forward, but the amber and musc are predominant. The fragrance is missing an edge to make it more interesting and yes, I said I want cuddly but that doesn't necessarily mean boring. The musc gives it a little synthetic touch which I am not too happy about, given the price. Some folks here have compared Tangier Vanille to YSL Cinéma. For me these are two totally different scents. Some notes are similar but Cinéma is scintillating and elegant and Tangier Vanille just... not. All day I have been ruminating where I've smelt this before, and now I have it: "Calypso Vanille" by Calypso Christiane Celle. I had Calypso Vanille in 2006 and I loved it back then but I somehow grew out of it. Porcupine Tree's "Love In The Past Tense" comes to mind, and Tangier Vanille is giving me this song's vibe: melancholy. Not exactly what I'd been bargaining for. I am keeping my decant for now, I have to sample perfumes a few times before deciding upon them and will try it again in colder weather.

Starts as Playdoh-like vanilla, dries into Dua's Booze and Honey (not actually a boozey scent, more like soft, slightly oily spices/ incense like you might get in a New Age shop). Fairly unisex, maybe a little feminine, but I couldn't get past the playdoh so I sold it.

Slightly spicy, a little bit soapy, very powdery, and smelling of Play-doh, this is not my favorite vanilla scent. I much prefer the straightforward vanilla of Tihota.

Got this from my mom and i thought that i liked it, but its kind of sickeningly sweet on it`s own. Probably amazing for layering tho. Lasts a long time too:)

This is good vanilla smelling perfume but very strong on me. I gave away my decant because I got a bad headache of it. I got headache every time I tried it.

I’ve seen reviewers describe fragrances as having a “play-dough” quality pretty often and was never really sure why. Then I smelled this perfume. Geez, it really does smell like play-dough. Nevertheless, I know some people have said they enjoy a play-dough like scent and salty vanilla accords. So, fine. I will also note though that I found the quality of the vanilla note in here to be very poor and that usual harsh designer musk was present as well. I didn’t get the impression that this was a high quality fragrance. I would say even if you like a play-doughy scent, you can find something better than this.

You can tell immediately whether a perfume maker loves or hates a particular note, and this fragrance screams that Aerin Lauder doesn't particularly like vanilla, but felt like she needed a vanilla scent for her line. The scent itself doesn't stick around long, and the vanilla, which is buried under rose, musk, and amber is around for an even shorter time. Fades so quickly, it seems embarrassed to have showed up in the first place. As an unapologetic lover of gourmands, I don't like vanillas that hang their heads in shame. And with the longevity of a body spray, the price is ridiculous.

There is a gentle, smokey, ever so slightly herbal powderyness to this rather non-sweet vanilla that gives off a refined and intriguing vibe. Yet for me these pretty layers can't win against a serious, suffocatingly dry vanilla, which overall reminds me heavily of the vanilla type drugstore scents I shunned 15+ years ago. But, you don't share the same memories, and if you like dry vanilla, maybe you do find a new favourite in this. Great performance, multi-layered smooth quality and all.
