Miraceti

This oozes complexity and confidence that stands out from the conventional designer DNA suites that are currently commanding the space. The fragrance takes you on a journey from its fresh, intoxicating opening notes before settling into a warm, luxurious and moody undertone for the remainder of the day. If you want to stand out in a way that has people wanting to get close to you as you exude subtle but confident natural warmth that's both calming and sensual then give Miraceti a try. I'd say it definitely leans masculine but firmly within the unisex range. If you want compliments then this is the range you want to be in. I will admit, the projection is not great after the initial 1-2 hours, and after that it typically morphs into a luxurious skin scent that becomes reserved for those who want to be more intimate with you. For this I actually don't mind - it doesn't overpower those around you but provides a lure for those who do want to get close to you. Would definitely recommend if you want to stand out in a confident, warm and alluring way.

This isn't the scent for the impatient. You gotta sit with it a bit to reveal its soul, which is a surprise departure from the initial blast. So, take that as your journey, and a bit further down the road, you'll arrive at this delicate balance of freshness and sweetness that lingers on for hours without giving into either direction. It is actually pretty interesting in that aspect, because a freshie typically either vapors away or turns into some sweet base to latch on--not the case with Miraceti...! So my two scents, either practice patience, or just go with the mall freshies that will capture you in the first 10 seconds, then turn into something indistinguishable from everything else. You just need to lean in to stand out! ;) And for those that say it turns into a skin scent, it sure does, but never stops in its threads. It's actually like a cooler, lighter, breezier extension of you, on the skin. It doesn't feel like you're wearing a perfume, but have this breeze oozing out of your skin into the ether...

I love the smell of this fragrance but I can understand how it may not be mass appealing. The reminds me of an old wooden boat full of herbs and spices way out at sea. The silage is not massive and the price point is definitely on the steeper side. I would say this is generally a more mature fragrance and would not recommend it to a younger audience.

Iiiiii neeeeeed iiiiiittttt. Gorgeous animalic amber scent. It's so sexy and alluring I couldn't stop smelling my skin. Body-like and feral. UPDATE: I got it and I'm so glad I did because they are discontinuing this from the line. I feel like this scent really dances around ambrette seed and labdanum in a really pretty way.

This reminds me of a college job working below decks on restored tall ships with tarred wooden casks, next to the wharf stones covered in barnacles and seaweed. Best college job ever and a very evocative fragrance. My favorite of the Aesops.

love it so much! feels like orthodox church :) honestly i don’t smell any marine or seaweed, but it’s definitely salty and warm, but not in a beach/coconut way. very unisex which is great for me

It smells quite austere at first, with a bitter seaweed note combined with myrrh, which can be quite dry and dusty before it warms up. The pepper accord (probably based around ISO E Super) provides some clean woody spice and familiarity. When it does eventually warm up on your skin, it gets a warm glow. The salty note does remain, so it never turns sweet, but it does become friendlier and more approachable. I wear it on rainy and foggy days when I'm in an introspective mood. Purely for myself, as I don't think it would be much of a crowd pleaser. It's the only Aesop fragrance I own, even though they have others which, on paper, should appeal to me more. This one is their most intriguing fragrance to me. It kept calling me from the fog, so I had to buy it.

It's a unique spicy marine fragrance that definitely has the Aesop aromatic DNA in it.

Despite the heavy-sounding notes list, Miraceti actually goes on light and cool, sort of bluish white, with softly herbal or marine vibes. Reminiscent of smooth white stones at the beach. It has the slightly musty hippie-ish essential-oils smell of all the Aesop scents, which usually reads to me as sexy and faintly disreputable; but as Aesop goes, Miraceti is one of the cooler, lighter, cleaner offerings. Refreshing on a hot day. Comfortably unisex. Like The Mariner's Rhyme but even more so, it's one of the rare marine scents that actually smells a bit like a sun-baked beach or a breath of fresh-salty air, without any harsh chemical aftertaste. Instead, the aftertaste is earthy-funky-herbal, which isn't for everyone but is ok by me.

Spicy/ambery/musky marine green thing. It's nicee, and the new trend (green/woody marine frags) if I have to pay Miyake price at discounter for something like that (of lower quality) it's one thing. But at Aesop pricing, it's a big no.When it'll be priced 3 times less (not 2 times, I said 3 times!), I might rethink it. Pass.

Artsy, slightly animalistic, kind of reminds me of a wet dog, or a muscular man who worked up a sweat fucking you silly while being his big spoon and you smelling his glistening armpit odor. 6.5/10

went to the store to smell Hwyl, but ended up liking this way more. The top accord listed here is "amber", but I don't get that at all. It's more spicy, fresh, and resinous. Projects for a couple hours, then sits on skin for several more. Lasts a long time on fabric. Really love it but it's quite pricy at 200$/50mL. Edit: bought it on sale. However getting horrible performance. And occasionally smells like urine.

It smelled so good I went back after spending a few days smelling the test card to get a better idea of how it evolved on the skin. I almost bought it to just test knowing I loved it so much but MAN. It turned so animalic and dirty I got nauseous on the ride home. Im so glad I didn't buy a whole bottle. Starts so clean and beachy but like in the mineral way. Super sad (but I guess my wallet isnt)

Spicy herbal seaweed disaster. Way more artistic than wearable. As mentioned numerous times longevity and price is a big issue. It's now around $100 for 50ml and that's still too high IMHO.

the entire othertopias collection (Miraceti, Karst, Eremia) is honestly a flop that sets Aesop fragrance back by a few steps! scent wise, they are pretty much unmemorable and unintentional, so random that they smell almost pretentious! Oh and they lack the signature Aesop DNA, nowhere near the level of artistic discernment in Hwyl, Rozu, or Marrakech. And after years of making fragrance and studying your formulation, it’s embarrassing to make something that can’t even last past 3 hours on the skin. In fact, the older releases like Rozu and Hwyl have exceptional lasting performance. And last but not least, the marketing/storytelling for this range is so mediocre and makes the whole thing even more pretentious! Really disappointed!

Turns out I do not like seaweed :) If you're expecting it to be a supporting note, fair warning, it's bigger than that.

Smells like a public restroom to me??

Sweet and spicy, resinous labdanum and myrrh sitting in a very close scent bubble, with longevity you'd expect from the mentioned notes - most of which are long-lived base notes. Nice - but not nice enough to be an essential buy from even the most rusted-on Aesop fans. Needs some warmth to get it going, but I'm still detecting Miraceti's faint, sweet, cosy, boozy embrace from my elbow (through my woollen jumper) about 8 hours later. There's a tame and fleeting animalic edge present in the opening but nothing that would make this unwearable. At most times, the closest analogy I can draw is Christmas cake batter (rich, sweet sultanas and boozy) but overall it is pleasant and complex - albeit completely lacking a top and mid section. It feels like an idea that could have been expanded on The beautiful musk which came into its own at about the two or three hour mark is probably this perfume's most interesting selling point. Otherwise, it is hard to recommend due to the extreme asking price of $220AUD. This entire Othertopias line is a rare misstep for Aesop and I prefer to think of Othertopias as a limited and temporary collection of fragrance concepts for the perfumer's artistic expression, designed for personal appreciation mid-pandemic. As a group, the trio are weak fragrances which I feel were missed opportunities when sitting next to their established stablemates. I fail to see how they fit into the wider Aesop offering, and I hope they will be discontinued when a worthy addition is brought into the main line of fragrances to join Marrakech, Tacit, Hwyl and Rozu. I feel like the first time I tried this in the Aesop shop, it was stronger, had greater projection and was more complex - or was it just the power of suggestion, and the contrived tales of rum barrels and pirate ships slavishly regurgitated by the hive-minded Aesop sales assistants? Either way, it worked, and I had a much more complex impression of this fragrance than what I am experiencing today. This first impression is what made me curious to revisit and spend some time on my own with this, and while not completely disappointed, I now have a much more accurate picture. It's a dressed-up labdanum fragrance. Tested from a take-home sample vial picked up at the Aesop shop. I wore four (tiny) sprays in the crook of my elbow.

I recently had a love affair with Aesop's fragrances and I had all of them except Eidesis. I didn't plan on getting Miraceti because the top note is not my favorite among Aesop's line. But after a couple weeks of going to the store, trying Miraceti on just for kicks, I started to appreciate the imagery this fragrance evokes in my head. Rarely any fragrance can achieve that effect on me. But with Miraceti, I get seaweed, salt from seawater. But when I was wearing it, I thought to myself this must be what Dragonstone smells like in the Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon, this is what the stone castle by the sea in a medieval fantasy smells like. This is not something I want others to smell on me. This is something I want to enjoy myself and to myself only.

This is a Polaroid photo of a church by the sea. Woody and resinous, this has an incense quality, complimented by the distinctive seaweed note that adds a briny tang. But it's all at one step removed, maybe too curated, and not quite natural. I do pick up on the mate note, and I wish it had been amplified slightly as this would have given the whole composition more of a Silk Road feel, like a ship laden with herbs and spices. But as it is, it's a pleasantly rugged scent. The issue, I think, is the price. I bought a lightly used bottle for around a quarter of the asking price, and I'm satisfied with the fragrance at that price. But those spending $200 for 50ml might rightly expect something more distinctive.

There’s an initial briney opening that quickly becomes warm and resinous. It’s a cousin to Eidesis in the best way possible. The pimento leaf and mate add some interest to the warm tones of the myrrh, labdanum, and styrax. I don’t get the horse scent that people are describing. It has a dry herbal scent perhaps one almost akin to hay. Medicinal in the best way. I love how this doesn’t smell like a typical fragrance. It’s its own thing. Resinous and dry medicinal herbs. This is a very dry fragrance. I imagine an old apothecary cabinet with glass jars of herbs all mixing and forming a complex new aroma. Maybe I do smell the seaweed. But it’s distant. Crystalline salt caves come to mind.

A marine fragrance! Surprisingly, it's the one I like the best so far in my Aesop samples. I think it's successful because it's got the most character of the bunch I've sampled lately. I mean, it still has the Aesop clean, herbal, spicy, spa-like DNA. But Miraceti is darker and more figurative. It's not hitting you over the head with a marine accord. Instead, it hints at the smell of the sea. It's also very leathery, and has a peppery greenness that's almost like wasabi. It's a little bit foreboding, this one! Very cool. Not a rich, heavy fragrance by any stretch of the imagination, but it has more heft than the others in this collection.

i honestly can't decide if i like this or dislike it but it's intriguing for sure. on first sniff from the bottle it drew me in, but when i sampled it on skin it took a slightly strange turn, i think perhaps due to the seaweed? however, about half an hour later i kept catching really pleasant whiffs, although i'm unsure how to properly articulate the smell...it was certainly warm and a little smoky, but i couldn't place particular notes, unfortunately! i personally think this would be a great transition scent into the fall —pricetag stops me from purchasing a full bottle for now

Smells pleasantly like nothing in particular. I can see why people below are saying it smells like a public washroom...it smells like a background fragrance that is briefly appreciated but not seriously contemplated. Think: freshly laundered clothes, new furniture, a clean bathroom. And yet, somehow I cannot lose the sense that under all the forgettable dullness, there is perhaps a person waiting to be discovered. That is the sense this scent conveys, to me.

i went to aesop to smell their lineup and this was probably my favourite on paper. on skin however it leans way too musky and dirty for me. my friend said it reminded him of how a horse would smell and i weirdly have to agree. it might be nice on the right person but its a bit too bold and not as nuanced in the way i like fragrances to be.

Somewhere between tf oud minerale and a cdg fragrance, maybe kyoto. Opens with an almost BO-level stinky marine smell which makes it somewhat unpleasant at first. TF oud minerale by contrast has a pleasant freshness to it. Dries down to a comforting and familiar incense and cedar scent. Not sure what they were thinking, honestly.

I see what others are calling BO stink in the opening, but on skin that quickly goes away and melts into an austere yet warm, ambiguous, slightly sweet musk. Kind of unique and I do like it, but the sill-age and longevity is very weak and doesn't match the price in any way shape or form.

-Miraceti is the refined older brother of Rozu. -A refined, woody herbal scent with a hint of smoke. -i'd say it leans masculine. -I can see how this might remind some of Shinto shrines or similar places of worship -Unfortunately Miraceti leans a touch too herbaceous for my liking. (-)
