Patchouli Oud

#1256 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is an absolutely great Laotian oud scent. If they'd tossed in some Palo Santo they'd have me buying a lifetime supply. Acceptable performance. Very manly in a smooth, barbershop shaving cream way. It's a more masculine version of Giardino Benessere's "Titans" collection scent "Teia", though Teia is half the price of this stuff, so you may want to consider it. Teia leans more unisex with lavender and saffron, though I wouldn't call it feminine as some do. I also get the resemblance to DS Durga "Bowmakers", but to me that scent comes off like pancake syrup and shellac in the opening. This scent is not cheap, but you need very little of it. Projects arm's length at first, but is an intimate scent in an hour. Unlike a lot of the more animalic oud scents this is mild in the dry down and thus safe for any environment, including for business wear, but primarily a good scent for date night as for an oud scent it's very approachable. Primarily a cool weather scent I think. It's definitely a bottle buy for me.

For me this is a heavy-fresh fragrance, the Patchouli and Vetiver in this makes it lighter. The Oud along side with the Incense, Elemi, Oakmoss and Guaiac Wood makes it heavier. It starts out with a blast of Patchouli, Oud and Incense. After the opening it starts to become a little more heavy, (its not so heavy that you can't ware it on a cold summer day) and it really just kind of stays there for the rest of the fragrance. This fragrance is Earthy, Woody, Balsamic, Smoky and Ambery. On my skin it lasted around 7-8 Hours with mid to low silage. Really a high quality fragrance that smells natural. Overall this fragrance gets a 8.5/10 from me.

I like this fragrance alot. It smells strong at immediate spray but as stated previously by others it settles quite quickly and is seems mild to the wearer. I agree it is well blended and reminds me of the 70s and some of the more refined patchouli oil fragrances you could buy. I wish it wasnt so expensive. I would like another bottle but just cant do that price.

Love this, it's beautifully composed and the raw materials seem to be of exeptionally high quality. If I could buy it abroad in London and get my tax back maybe I could afford it but I want the Affinessence Musk Ambergis as well. 600 bucks is a lot!

Absolutely gorgeous!!! So rich and enveloping. Strong; divinely strong!!!!! It's incredibly potent and woody and smoky and powerful. I adore it!!!!

Beautiful fragrance but is it worth that price? I don't think so.

I love what Patchouli Oud is trying to do however in all honesty it does feel slightly unfinished. The blend has made the oud bland and one dimensional. It is still however beautiful in what it does present. For me it does smells like an overly westernized rubbery oud composition that fails to satisfy my oud expectations or sell me a convincing use of the material. Patchouli Oud is pungent and bitter, with a low hum of berried booziness in the background created by patchouli, guaiac wood and elemi resin more on this later. Patchouli Oud is quite smooth and I guess makes sense in a "base-notes" collection because it smells more like a typical accord used to build oud in higher-quality western fragrances. Patchouli Oud does at least deliver both patchouli and oud in equal amounts for a portion of the wear and is competent in doing that, so for this I can excuse it. In the end however, in my opinion, this is more of a patchouli and guaiac wood composition posing as a patchouli and oud. Synthetic oud whether they be newly manufactured captive molecules or blends of oud derivative ingredients such as cypriol, castoreum, tobacco, patchouli, norlimbanol and safraline have probably become convincing enough to trick real oud users. There is sometimes still a dimension missing to the profile when it is done synthetically but it is usually hard to tell. Here in Patchouli Oud it confuses me because it is too smoothed out to remind me of the gamey realness, fermented, bacterial or smokey burnt qualities of the material. If anything Patchouli Oud delivers only partially the quality of Laotian oud that is characteristically leathery, smoky and sometimes fruity. But it is smoothed over and domesticated, made rubbery, by a coat of damp earthy patchouli whose fruit-like qualities are exaggerated by the elemi that comes across boozy, lightly sweet and and citric. Despite the hint of sweetness this is generally a bitter perfume. For the rest of the wear after 30 minutes, this is no longer a patchouli-oud fragrance but instead a patchouli guaiac fragrance where the guaiac imbues a slightly bitter A1 sauce facet with some leatheriness for the rest of the fragrance's life. Incense, and vetiver, try to do their part in making the oud realistic by imparting nuttiness and smokiness but their efforts are almost nonexistent and only succeed at further rounding the composition into a slightly bitter "brown" perfume that is adjacently related to rubber or leather. It is not one of my favorites because it does not convince me or truly excite me and I found wearings of it slightly lackluster although it is still well-made and seamlessly blended. I felt nagged a bit by Patchouli Oud's sweet bitterness which made my stomach upset and slightly queasy. It is a relative in profile to one of my favorite leathers The Scent of Banat by Wesker, Patchouli Oud being the more behaved and sweet fragrance. I do not prefer this to the less expensive and richer offering from the indie brand. I find The Scent of Banat satisfies me better with more rough and dimensional ingredients that come together as a complex smoky, gamey and woody leather. It does not cause me the slight dizziness that this fragrance does. Patchouli Oud is fine perfumery but it makes me hesitant to reference it as Oud even though it does contain the ingredient, probably in the most minuscule amount. This is rubbery and more so the leather of the line than Cuir Curcuma. Patchouli Oud is a daring release from Affinessence and a refreshing departure from the typical rose oud boots that most Western brands feel necessary to fill when making an oud. For that alone the brand deserves its credit. A very well done patchouli forward oud offering whose leathery bitterness should succeed at being a decent stepping-stone for those interested in getting further acquainted with oud. It is masculine leaning with decent longevity and projection that sits in your personal space. I will not be considering this one. I suggest you try it! 8/10

This took me back to the days when every house and indie perfumer was making an 'oud' scent. It reminded me of so many 'ouds' that I tried back then, but not one specifically... I too doubt that this is a real oud, or if there is indeed any oud in this, but it smells quite dark, woody and basey enough. I could possibly wear this once every so often, but probably would not seek this one out, I would say. It reminds me of 9 or 10 years ago when I went on a huge synth-oud hunt and tried a few dozen different ouds. Maybe something by Montale? Possibly the Gucci oud? Either way, for me, it feels 'retro', so it doesn't work for me. But I can see how it would appeal to others. The vetiver, labdanum boots the oud accord and sets the scent up. I like it, but it's not what I normally like and wear...

Wow!!!! It's strong. The last time I smelt anything like this was when I was testing the Olympic Orchids dev series. This is only wee bit less strong. Thankfully I love a bit of intensity. I immediately get walloped with patch and oud. I really do mean walloped! They are closely followed by the vetiver and Elemis resin. Gradually, thankfully these notes ease a bit and allow the woods, incense and resins to surface. It's a wee bit softer now. My favourite stage. I already have OO Dev IV so this is not going on my want list. It has good longevity and sillage. A fab, unisex warming scent to wear on a chilly day.

A good patchouli genuine, raw, super fruity, never dusty and a bit 'hard candy with a sour and crisp vetiver. Elemi, oud and incense in equal proportions close the circle of this elegant, mature, dark, sometimes pointed but always pleasant and very versatile blend. Quite simple with a few notes but well mixed. ...and finally a oud without roses around!

This is Oud Wood in its pro version. Oud Wood Intense, or rather a refined take on M7. A superb interpretation of a well-loved Oud type — unlike Malle’s The Night.

شروع ای کاملا دارویی_بالزامیک که حس تُرشیدگی و تخمیری داره و این روند حداقل 20 دقیقه ای ادامه دار هست عود با فضایی بالزامیک و کمی میوه ای _آجیلی به اضافه پچولی خاکی_علفی_گزنده و کمی رگه های شُکلاتی که در انتها رو به شیرینی میره کار خوبیه اما اون قدرت و صلابت رو نداره ضمن این که پرفورمنس کاملا ضعیف ای داره و اصلا با جنس رایحه هم خوانی نداره و تقریبا بعد از 2 ساعت اسکین سِنت میشه و پخش اش از بین میره که تو این مَقطع وجه پچولی و عودی عطر کم رنگ میشه و فضایِ چوبیِ شیرین و ساده ای پیدا می کنه در لحظاتی که باد گرم به عطر برخورد می کرد و بوش بلند میشد؛بویی شبیه به برنج خُشک و خام ازش بلند میشد که این جذاب ترین قسمت عطر بود برام :) و تا حدودی یاد سانتال باسماتی از همین برند افتادم ****************** scent:6.5/10 longevity:5/10 sillage:4.5/10 purchase value:2/10 ******** overall:4.5/10

*I'm a woman who enjoys the occasional men's fragrance * This is just so scratchy to my nose. I really tried to enjoy it but it's just not for me. There's a strong note of resin that I disliked personally. This wasn't one i was looking to try but I did add on a whim during a decant purchase and I am thinking of passing it on to someone else who may enjoy. This was just not it for me.

I've decided to start boycotting companies that churn out extortionately priced "oud" perfumes like this. It's an insult to people who love perfume that they make these synthetic duds and claim there's laotian, or any other specific, oud inside. This smells like straight up akigalawood, the aroma-chemical du jour, with some cheap vetiver chemical. It's cheap-smelling and uninspired, and I'm completely done with Affinessence. If you like this profile, check out any cheap perfume by Quentin Bisch from the last ten years and you'll most likely get an akigalabomb that's more interesting than this.

First and foremost this is a patchouli dominant scent, and a strong performer. A super strong performer. After my initial single spray, two hours later my partner walked into the room I was in and commented—some 10 feet away—that he could smell me. So even though the only person close to me gives this a neutral rating, I like Patchouli Oud quite a bit. You have to be a patchouli fan though. This is natural and earthy, and if you are wanting to get a sense of the Oud you’ll have to wait for the base, many hours later, where it finally makes an entrance. The only other note I can clearly pickup throughout is vetiver. Patchouli Oud is too strong for summer or warm weather, I would think this works best in the Fall. It’s on the masculine side, but a woman can pull this off too. So the final question: price. At $375 for 100ml, it’s on the upper end of most people’s budgets, and this brand—as far as I know—does not sell smaller sized bottles. So it’s not something for a collector like myself as I would never pay retail for it. Probably a good thing in the end.

Warm perfume dense dark resinous aromatic woody smoky ambery. I feel a medicated ‘oud intertwined with the excellent and striking chocolatey woody patchouli the stars of the composition [as it could not be otherwise]. With a very present earthy vetiver giving a “dirty” in the fragrance, it goes on to a mossy green base by elemi and moss and slightly smoky by incense with a very discreet amber facet as a backdrop but noticeable throughout its evolution. Despite the dense and theoretically heavy ingredients, the fragrance alternates between moments of freshness of raw wood and warm hours of smoky wood, which makes it very versatile. Excellent perfume with exquisite natural ingredients, delicious.

It's a patchouli sour oud fragrance which is quite fair to be honest, but with extreme dozes of patchouli for patchouli lovers. Again, BUT, does it worth the price of 300 Euro!? Edit (21st Oct 2023) 7+ years, and today i realized that Laotian Oud is quite obvious and dominant and it is going strong with the help of patchouli. As it calms down, the elemi rises high with some hints of vetiver, and i started to sense some hints of sweetness accompanying the roughness of the Laotian Oud. And sort of sensing traces of oakmoss within as well. The blend is quite oudi and quite beautiful but the price is still quite overpriced.
