Rose-Reglisse

"Réglisse" translates to Liquorice.

So underrated it actually hurts. This is the gothic dusty rose perfume of my dreams. There's no heavy balsamic resins or juvenile dewy accords, just a thin veil of soft spices from the liquorice and anise, as if a single incense stick is burning in the background but it's far away enough not to overtake the aroma of dried dark red roses bouquet. Smells almost identical to the rosary I received from the church in Italy! Potent and pretty long-lasting as well, I only put a few dabs on my arm and I got strong whiffs of it for the rest of the evening. Best worn in colder weather. Do keep in mind though, you have to love licorice to enjoy this, it really intensifies as it macerate. An alluring scent for a grown woman.

On the card, the anise note appeared very sharp. On the skin, this fragrance is a much smoother licorice rose, softened by the violets in the background. The litchi note is not really detectable per se but brings some freshness to the whole. Then when the gourmand base takes over, there's still enough of a trace of anise in the mix to keep things interesting. Unfortunately that whole experience is over within an hour, after which all that remains is the faintest skin scent. As I sniffed, I was faintly reminded of La Fille de Berlin, even though the two are in no way identical. Just a similar rose, and perhaps a similar mood. Extremely enjoyable, but very poor longevity.

This is very rose dominant, with a sweet lychee and violet under that. The licorice/anis are VERY soft.

Icy red rose. Interesting juxtaposition between cold anise, licorice and juicy florals. Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the attempt reinventing yet another rose frag. Feminine leaning. Average sillage and longevity. Pretty presentation.

Eeeeuuuuu, Way too sweet for me. The "gourmand" note must be a big piece of raspberry pie. Not much rose or anise either, or even licorice. Disappointing.

Rose Réglisse was one of the easiest fragrances for me to decide against, but strangely, not because it was offensive. In fact, the opening gave me hope. For the first minute or two, I was greeted by a lovely rose note. It felt fresh, slightly dewy, and more realistic than I expected. I remember thinking that perhaps I had finally found a rose fragrance that leaned into the romantic, floral direction I was hoping for. Unfortunately, that beautiful rose disappeared almost immediately. As the fragrance developed, the rose became harder and harder to detect. The lychee was faintly present, adding a touch of sweetness, but nowhere near enough to create the juicy, watery fruit effect I was hoping for. Instead, the fragrance gradually transformed into something much sharper and more abstract. The promised licorice never truly appeared for me. Rather than a sweet, candy-like anise or a Turkish delight-style rose, I got a sharp floral profile that increasingly reminded me of generic perfume. There was a powdery quality running throughout the fragrance, likely from the violet, but it wasn’t the soft cosmetic powder I sometimes enjoy. Instead, the fragrance developed a synthetic, musky sharpness that became the dominant character. What disappointed me most is that this fragrance never evolved into anything particularly interesting. It remained linear and lacked the depth I expect from a niche perfume at this price point. The opening suggested complexity, but the drydown felt generic and dated to my nose. Throughout the wear, I kept thinking that I had smelled similar fragrances before. Not because it was inspired by a classic, but because it reminded me of the type of floral perfumes I might encounter while browsing discount fragrance shelves. It lacked the artistry, realism, or emotional pull that usually makes me excited about a niche fragrance. I wanted a rose. I wanted lychee. I wanted licorice. I wanted something that felt romantic, jammy, sweet, or even mysterious. Instead, I got a sharp floral musk that slowly lost the qualities that initially attracted me. The opening rose was beautiful. Unfortunately, it stayed for only a couple of minutes before leaving the party entirely. Final verdict: a promising opening followed by a generic, sharp floral drydown. Not offensive, but not memorable enough to justify a full bottle.

The only issue with this fragrance is the longevity. It's so weak after only 1h. Otherwise the smell is great Sometimes I wonder what brands have in mind when they ask perfumers to create perfumes. Put some Ambrofix in it or something damn it lol

I've had a sample of this for some time and I really like it. It's very rosy but the licorice is always present in the background, turning down the sweetness. This is what I would categorize as a unisex or even masculine-leaning rose fragrance.
