Turathi Brown

So, off top, I've never smelled Tuxedo from YSL that this is cloning, so just going off my experience verses comparing this directly to anything. I had to let this fragrance sit awhile, like several months before all the notes came forward. It felt like the fragrance was done after the top notes had expired. After maceration, the main notes I got was a prominent patchouli, balsams, some woods, a warm amber, and vanilla. This group of notes play off each other extremely well. The patchouli is chocolate cakey and it sets off a wonderful chain of accords until the far drydown. That patchouli blends so well with the woods, amber, and vanilla. The balsams is what held this scent back before maceration because it was a tad bit too dominant. So, maybe the patchouli rounding out is what tamed those balsams? I'm not sure what's creating this powdery feel in the mid to the drydown, but that was also a pleasant surprise after maceration. So, all in all, I get a equal parts patchouli and balsams in the immediate top. As it dries to the mid, the patch becomes more chocolatey, creating this semi gourmand feel (my favorite scent DNA) as it blends with this warm amber, slight woods, dusting of rose, and vanilla. This is where the fragrance shines the best to my nose. From the mid to the base, the woods get stronger, along with the vanilla and amber. The projection is very good. I got about 2 hours projection when I wore this. Silage is good at about an arms length or just beyond that. Longevity has been between 8-9 hours; that's a full workday for me. As I mentioned earlier, my preferred scent DNA is gourmands, along with darker sophisticated, unique blues, and etc. This scent hits the spot like a bullseye in a darts tournament. I didn't expect this fragrance to be as good as it is after my first impressions. Far exceeded my expectations. I was looking into Rochas Moustache, but I'm more than satisfied with what Turathi Brown delivers. Highly recommend, but be patient if it doesn't smell up to snuff on the first impression. This stuff is amazing. But it comes with a major caveat to my nose. The first few hours are not that great, and I mean hours......then it comes into its own. I don't want to wait up to 4 hours to get to the end game, particularly for a cheapy. It's really good on the long dry down but if you want to get that Tuxedo scent, you'll get a very good high % of it but if you're going out at 8pm, you'd need to have a shower at 4pm and spray the hell out of it and you'd be fantastic when you're at the event. But to me, it just takes too long getting there. I'm still going to wear it but it's just something that could have been but you may have already left the event! And for the ones that need instant gratification in the scent format, it's not for you. Update 8th April - it's still much the same but I will let it sit for a few more weeks as with all my Middle eastern fragrances, they get better with time. It's in the cupboard for now.... Update 23rd April - the drydown is much quicker now, around an hour. I sprayed this on one arm and Arabiyat Nayel Oud on the other and after 2 hours they are very much indistinguishable from each other and up there as the best clones I have of Tuxedo.

I purchased Afnan Turathi Brown a few months ago based on my wonderful experience with Turathi Blue. I've worn it many times now since winter has reared it's cold, icy head. Turathi Brown is a luscious and intoxicatingly beautiful experience from the smooth opening to the warmer dry-down. I adore this fragrance. I'm an older gentleman who prefers masculine scents that aren't overly sweet, unlike the really sweet unisex frags enjoyed by younger men. Although it is definitely sweet, and near my sweetness threshold, it isn't cloyingly so. The performance is moderate and it is inexpensive enough to re-spray as necessary without hesitation. I like Turathi Brown SO MUCH that I'm going to get another couple bottles and hold them in reserve... just in case. I'm hooked. I own neither of the OGs that inspired Turathi Brown (YSL Tuxedo) or Turathi Blue (Bvlgari Tygar) , so I can't speak to the accuracy of either of these gems. I highly recommend this one!
