Agent Provocateur

I'm not one for writing reviews! I usually just enjoy those of others when I peruse. But after reading such a mix on this I wanted to add a couple of things to note. Depending on where you buy this fragrance I.e in high street store or on resel market! There are different versions. And I believe it is the kind of perfume that evolves distinctly in the bottle too... I've the original porcelain original juice! That was bottled in lonodn (I live in a London Borough and the original shop in Soho was where I first fell in love with it). The origin is all the heady rose and musc and "corrinader" dirtyesque smell that people say it is. It was inspired by the provocations if a woman! And I was told the bottle is both the Egg and a bomb! The seduction of a femme female (one of The originator of the company is V.Westwood son! Whose mum opened a shop selling latex clothes in the 80s and went kn to make Boudoir which she said was inspired by the smell of afterglow! Or some such basically sex. So If you re not in touch with this part of yourself or that of a woman! You are definitely not going to get on with thos scent. Lol The first reformulation (i think in USA which kbvs after being concocted in EU originally ! It was bound to be different) was a disaster and is still around on the resale market! The third reformulation was in taly I believe ! And although the initial spray was not as heady! It did mellow down (It's starts screerchy) but all the bas notes are there and it ages super well to ease off screechiness. Around this time a re edition of the porcelain bottle was launched as a limited edition. And I have to say I wondered if the bottle does something because the "Italian juice" in the new limited edition porcelain actually smells pretty close to original right out the spray. (originally all bottles were porcelain md the ability had "London wx1 on bttom) . All bottles are pale oink btw! Other bottle colours in same shape are different smells apart from the Diamind Dust (Dd version! Which was a single time issue and is original juice also). Strip was a limited edition that played up some of the notes and made it sweeter and more wearable for summer) God knows why they didn't re do that edition again! It was very well received at the time. Then finally there has been another reformulation! Which I think k maybe be under a completely different company as by this time! After Italy ! Mr westwood and friends sold off the whole company or relinquished most amd no longer is the perfume now made as intense and sexy as it originally was and perhaps due to The New restrictions about formulations etc! Prices of saffron! Etc.. it definitely is a lot less body amd sex that before ! Yet still manages to pack a punch for some skins who don't absorb much of the Ingredients. I use a little of my old original london porcelain or Italian issue limited edition porcelain, mixed with the modern bought 3 years ago to get the umph. And in summer I can spray a little of the most recent edition! Very lightly and mix it with a fresh rose soliflore (I could only ever wear it in the evenings in summer ! The original and Italian edition). So how to know which yiu have? If the bottle is porcelain amd has a very basic black label that has London wx1 on bottom. That's the first edition amd depending on when it was opened it may have out top notes and been very dense nd musky and dirty coriander (my last bottle is just this and needs to be mixed with a rose soliflore or a magnolia or the Italian edition! ). Then there is a made in USA version which is the second edition and I believe maybe the recent edition also but by 2 different companies. I'm not with the bottles but I'll try to get better details on the USA thing soon and edit. Then you may come across a porcelain limited edition boxed bottle thatentions Italy! Thos is also good and I often wo drr if it was the original juice just rebottled. FYI the original porcelain was not labelled as a limited edition box it just was as is. Amd there are also non porcelain bottles made in Italy! Glass ones too. The distinction is lso in the way of the writing. It became more swirly after a time. And then more recently pared down again. Just to co fuse us all. Lol Don't get me started on the Maitresse provocateur bottle changes! Lol I hope this clear it up some of the confusion I read about the degree of funk that one sense. Lol. It really is dependant on the formulation. As others have said this is not a blind buy! Amd it can be used sparingly to pleasant effect although I would not call this office/work wear at all. It gives some people headache! Even me at certain times of the month! Although less so original formula (less synthetics I believe). Of you like the Juiliette has a gun! If you like the intense 89s houses and older niche perfumes (Gurlain pre 2000 btw, ! Not recent atuff), If you've ever wanted to know why some perfumes have that odd notes yet can smell amazing on YOU! Then try this. If you are a sweete caked up oceanic lover (amd I love my gourmand too in the summer), definitely ask for a tester ! I really loved the person who said about fetching cleopatras milk in a leather jacket! (They wrote much more! Look further down), I'd say that captures the spirit of thos animal very well, I'd include an erotic dance for her Queenship too!After filling her bath!

WARNING: This is NOT a safe blind-buy for ANYONE! Period. It doesn't smell "like" anything. It might smell like a few different things, but even that is difficult since this is one that appears to come off so incredibly differently from one person to the next. My notes to myself from a few years ago when I got this in a swap read: "I really like this even though it's a little weird. Strong musk. Animalic and beautiful." At that point, I had this down as a like. Now, it's a love, even though I struggle with this. My first bit of advice is, if you do not like shocking scents, or you don't like a vintage feel, leave this one alone. You'll just be happier that way. Trust me. Secondly, spray this LIGHTLY, ONE TIME (how I wish I could bold AND underline on the reviews), and on a place that's not next to your face. I recommend the back of the hand or the ankle. Yes, the ankle. If you spray this where there are few body hairs, it will be easier to remove should you abhor it. And while it can smell magical from a distance, it is most likely to come off as sharp and overwhelming when sprayed by the fact. Next, give it a moment before you go in to sniff. Let it come to you. And it will. Like a big spoiled cat that always MUST sit on your lap, no matter that you have a laptop, book, or a cup of coffee there (I'm thinking of my dear Chester). Just see how you like that before you get into her bubble and sniff right at the place of application. The fact is, if more people had followed these steps, there would be far fewer dislikes. So how to describe this scent. Well, I'm not normally a huge fan of rose, and so that initially threw me off. The rose in here is bright, sharp, and a bit skunky. Sort of like Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose, but not as bad as that one, I don't think. Or maybe this is just blended better. But at the beginning, the rose definitely dominates. Later that note mellows out into a lovely true bouquet of roses. Secondly, as someone else mentioned, you have to appreciate vetiver to love this. I have a bottle of pure vetiver oil on my dresser that I use regularly in my natural skin and hair care (I live in Haiti, so we get the REAL stuff). It's a magical scent. But it's on the sharp side here. As the scent develops, it mellows out and smells a bit smoky. I actually get incense in this one, almost from the start. The musk in this is present and a clean, white musk. It's really what pulls this composition together. So overall, this is an extremely edgy scent. It is apparently inspired by classic vintage scents, but it is more modern than that (likely the substitution of vetiver for oakmoss). It's skanky to my nose in that it can easily smell fecal or of urine or body odor. It's extremely sexy in moderation IF you can take it. I wouldn't classify this as a floral scent, even with the dominant rose. The softness and powder that comes in the drydown doesn't come off as especially floral to me. It could be masculine to the right nose, but it's definitely a STRONG woman (or man) who wears this. For those aspiring hardcore frag-heads, smelling this is an experience. For those easily intimidated, it is probably one you should pass on.

L'AGENT PARFUMEUR - A VERY SEXY AGENT [Short review] A man's opinion about a woman's perfume must mean more than just a little... I offered my wife this oddly shaped pink bottle. The scent of Agent Provocateur tends to provoke polarised reactions. It took her a while to decide which side she was on: love it (and keep it) or hate it (and give it away)? I particularly liked this scent and I'm glad she loves it and uses it now. You get a few notes of saffron and rose, but a pungent musk is the key note that plays an important role in this fragrance. As it evolves, there's a bit of dust or powder, a certain aggressiveness with an animal accord that I think is civeta, and a mixture of petrol and antibacterial soap (!). It's not really a safe blind buy. But it's nowhere near as unsafe or dirty as I've heard some people claim. The threshold and sill are high, so be careful with the trigger. In my opinion, my wife smells much sexier and hotter with this perfume and she knows it. She has another perfume that gives the same sensations and results. It's Coriandre for Women by Jean Couturier, but it doesn't have the same 'punch' as this provocative agent. This is the kind of fragrance that makes the difference between an attractive, adult, emancipated woman and "mademoiselles" who smell like Lolita and Brittney candies and don't really attract a man's attention. Feeling that your wife or girlfriend smells sexy and different makes all the difference in the world. If you are a grown woman, remember that when you spray Agent Provocateur. You will smell unique and in a very good way. Ther passing by people will surely notice you. It starts with a pleasing spiciness that comes from coriander and saffron. This combination may seem old-fashioned to those used to sweet scents, but to me it's what makes this fragrance interesting and beautiful. The coriander and saffron linger, but wonderfully unsweetened roses slowly come to the fore, accompanied by gardenia and a lush, warm ylang ylang. The musky warmer base is spiced up with crisp vetiver, so that the piquancy is not lost here either. Agent Provocateur may remind you of some perfumes from the 70s or 80s. In my opinion, it's a fragrance that's totally in tune with XXI century attitude. NOTE: Agent Provocateur's master perfumer, Christian Provenzano, was also responsible for Penhaligon's LP No. 9 for men. This is the perfume my wife elected as the sexiest men's perfume. Sorry ladies, you are now going to hate me this time as Agent Provocateur is supposed to be the mistress of seductive, uber sexy and ultra feminine perfumes and once again, me a man, I'm stealing it from you. Since the first time I smelled it I was fascinated: not because of the sexy marketing image it is supposed to convey, but rather because of the unusual combination scent layers this powerhouse masterpiece produces. To me AP is the precursor of all the oud scents that are produced nowadays and by essence it has a rather androgynous image. Whether a woman with legs as high as the Eiffel Tower wearing suspenders, stilettos and nipple tassels, or a hairy muscly biker with tattoos all over could wear it is not really important. It is simply a masterpiece. I read some comments that AP smells like dirty underwear... Really? If my underwear when dirty smelled like this, then I would not need to wash them and I would make a fortune by selling them! All this rubbish is pure sleazy marketing that does not serve this beautiful and sophisticated fragrance. The lingerie-kinky connotation has nothing to do with this perfume. If it was made by Chanel, Dior or Guerlain it would be noble, beautiful, mysterious in people's mind. Because it is a lingerie scent, people see it as sex in a bottle running the risk of being a tad vulgar. Sorry but all perfumes are supposed to contribute to seduction, open up personalities but mostly make those who wear it feel good inside and outside. AP has nothing vulgar and is not sex in a bottle. It is understated by its marketing concept which is unfortunately contributing to its downfall. I bought two 200 ml eau de parfum for £29 each... Ten years ago, it would have probably cost me £100 each. Why? Because people probably see AP as vulgar. I have been asked what I am wearing by some people who are miles away from thinking it is AP. When I tell them, they don't believe me. I don't care if some people hate it or associate it with dirty knickers. I only hope that I'm the only "gay in the village" who wears this beauty as it make me feel really unique, and I will continue receiving lots of compliments when I wear it! Long live Agent Provocateur!

A favourite of mine for many years, this is so unique and classic and unbelievable value. I do think for about £20 a bottle in the U.K. it’s worth a try for any fragrance fan, a truly gorgeous, classy chypre. It reminds me of vintage perfumes, but I mean that as the highest compliment. The rose in this is beautiful, tart and not sweet in the slightest. The saffron, vetiver and cedar give it a dryness. To me it could very almost be like a classic Middle Eastern perfume too (it is not oud-y though, just to be clear), I just find that Middle Eastern perfumes seem to capture rose notes beautifully. There is also a soapiness and it reminds me of those rose pomanders you can buy. I have an original formula of this, a Diamond Dust edition and a Porcelain edition and a new bottle from Amazon, because I’m obsessed with this tbh. The new bottle is a teensy bit more saffron and cedar heavy and not as long lasting. The Diamond Dust and Porcelain editions are more rose forward but I do find that letting this sit does bring the rose out, so maybe that’s it. That being said, my new bottle still smells great, so don’t let that put you off. Sillage and longevity on me are average, which makes me a lil sad, but given the price not a huge issue and to be expected. I’ve tried some more expensive “reminds me of” from here but nothing on earth smells like this, it’s a beauty. If this was from a niche house, people would happily drop £200 on it, I’m sure. It’s a divisive perfume, my mum always compliments me on it, but my friends don’t like it at all! However I’ve worn it during the day in all seasons and it was my office perfume for many years without seeming to cause offence (my colleagues are vocal about scent) 😂 It does turn a little sour on me in the heat. There is something in the AP fragrances that men seem to like, my ex partner loved this one and Maîtresse on me and he never really noticed many of my perfumes 😂 If you love rose perfumes do give it a try.

MOROCCAN ROSE is the star of the show in this beauty that opens with a spicy floral burst of magnolia & saffron with floral, metallic & aromatic nuances, that deepens into the Moroccan rose heart supported by multi-faceted vetiver with creamy, velvety, rosy, warm-spicy, fluffy & powdery facets, all resting on a musky base with earthy & woody touches. Overall I get a fluffy, whipped & spicy MiddleEastern leaning rose, that is almost a chypre with trace patchouli (not listed). Although there is a timeless quality, some might find it to have a slight vintage vibe. Requires a few months of dark storage after first sprays to develop the true scent. Well above average performance. Contrast to Coriandre Jean Couturier: These are different, but there's a similar vibe, and similarities with a spicy, leather-y chypre-rose. Coriandre has a characteristic coriander note in the top, and oakmoss base, while Agent Provocateur is more rose-forward, and has a prominent metallic saffron note in the top. Roughly equivalent performance, or slightly better for Agent Provocateur. Contrast to Portrait of a Lady Frederic Malle: These are different, but there are similarities with the spicy MiddleEastern leaning rose. Portrait of a Lady is warmer and richer, while AP is more fluffy & musky. Contrast to La Panthere EDP Cartier: These are different, but there are similarities with both having a creamy floral heart and an earthy base with leather facets. La Panthere is a lot sweeter with a gardenia heart, strawberry accent and oakmoss base, while Agent Provocateur is a creamy rose-leather with saffron accent and musk-vetiver base. Both have excellent performance. Overall: Well above average performance, with a beautiful spicy Moroccan Rose scent profile. This is the perfect scent to wear on a motorcycle trip down the Western Sahara coast. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

I am so pleasantly surprised by this. My exploration of chypre fragrances begun about 10 years ago when someone at a concert wore Rive Gauche and I had to try it. On me it didn't mix with my body chemistry. Growing up in the late 70s and early 80s I have been shaped by chypre fragrances. I had a teacher who wore Aromatics Elixir. But in my mind I had this imaginary scent that maybe I have smelled before, was green, maybe dry?woodsy/chypre, but I just didn't even know what direction to go. Rive Gauche led me to Caleche, which I absolutely adore. Caleche led me to Portrait of a Lady which led me to Coriandre and Agent Provocateur. When I opened Coriandre and AP, I knew I was home. It's the scent I have had in my head. Not to say that Coriandre and AP are identical, but they show some similarity. Where Coriandre is somewhat mysterious, more woodsy and herbal, with oily lipstick and oakmoss dry-down that reminds me a bit of the natural oily scent of hair and skin, AP remains sparkly and clean, even in it's dry-down. I do not find AP dirty or overly sexy. It's more feminine than most fragrances I like but I think of it as having almost a sparkling sort of "pulsar" effect that lasts a very long time. To me the rose stands out the most, it's rounded and in harmony with the other elements and softened by eternal musk soap. On initial spray it's very strong almost spicy, but it dissipates very quickly and changes into a less pungent, more radiant and rounded soft scent that is worth the wait. It's also very reasonably priced. I have tried AP blue silk and black lace, but I do not care for them.

I honestly didn’t expect this fragrance to affect me the way it did. It has been a long time since a perfume truly surprised me. From the very first spray, I get a distinctly medicinal impression — almost like iodine or antiseptic soaked into a piece of cotton, but softened and blurred by rosewater. It’s a strange contrast: sharp, slightly clinical, yet floral at the same time. And the surprising part is... I actually love it. As it develops, that initial “pharmaceutical” edge begins to settle. The rose becomes more rounded, and the whole composition transforms into something deeply nostalgic. It suddenly takes me back to the 90s — like walking into an old-school cosmetics store, filled with powders, creams, and classic perfumes. What fascinates me most is the emotional response it triggered. It unlocked a very specific childhood memory: my grandmother’s wooden cabinet. She used to keep her personal belongings there — medicines, small treasures, even sweets. The scent reminds me of that exact atmosphere: wood, remedies, and a faint sweetness lingering in the background. It’s not a straightforward “pretty” fragrance. It’s something far more complex — unusual, evocative, and deeply personal. The kind of scent that makes you pause, think, and feel. For me, this is not just a perfume. It’s an experience.

I got this is part of a sampler of chypres from Surrender to Chance, so this was an unexpected surprise and very, very pleasant and welcome amongst several other regrettably matronly (venerable! classic!) fragrances. This one is immediate strong rose...fucking fun. Most rose turns to powder on me, but in this it's young, juicy, flirty, and bright. Strong jasmine & florals, animalic musk. I really like this. Possibly my new signature "sexy" scent—I usually go for bitter herbal, green, woodsy and musky scents, so this may be my favorite floral I've ever tried. Rose is made almost citrusy from the spice, and the throw is very pleasant, light and sweet. I could imagine this being kind of a head-turner. Super femme. Not BDSM sexy but romantic sexy. Definite amber emerging too for warmth. Synesthetic color: Blush pink & coral, but in a GOOD way (I usually hate super-femme pink things, but this is...welcoming pink, like sunlight on a warm-toned wall). Going SUPER jasmine soon, almost sour, woodsier and soapier. This would be a great everyday bodywash scent. As it's drying down it's actually maturing—still not BDSM sexy, but elegant sexy, more deserving of its name. Ultimately pivoting into a straightforward nice light woodsy/amber. Unexpected and a real pleasure!

Not a modern style of rose perfume, Agent Provocateur is a classical take on rose. A deep, peppery, green rose chypre with patchouli and oakmoss. Spicy, herbal, woody, the patchouli goes in a medicinal direction. The base also has woods, sensual musks, and some amber. It starts out smelling cold and slowly warms up with time, but it has very little sweetness to it. It is never a boring experience, I am appreciative of the unique progression. I prefer this dark, brooding interpretation of rose to modern rose perfumes, many of which smell watery and/or sour. AP is more sophisticated and unique than the majority of the rose perfumes I've tested. It punches far above its modest price point. I have nothing but praise for this perfume. Actually I have one small complaint. The bottle is strange, it looks like a large, plastic Easter egg. If you love FM's Portrait of a Lady, but find it difficult to wear, or you want a less pricy alternative, this is the perfume for you. It is less sophisticated overall, but far more affordable; it still smells lovely. I haven't tried the 70s formulation of Jean Couturier's Coriandre, but I will say the modern formulation bears very little resemblance to AP. It is a watery rose perfume that smells soapy and green.

There's something so melancholy about this scent. It reminds me of beauty long gone, faded into yesteryear and not understood in today's world. To me, it's like the Anaïs Nin of perfumes. Erotic, shocking, and dated all at once. Like the artwork on a paperback romance novel you'd find in a goodwill or estate sale, it's feminine, highly suggestive and packed with innuendo, and gives you the uncomfortable realization that our parents, grandparents, and all ancestors who came before us were sexual beings who fantasized, loved and seduced. I got this perfume last year after watching a lady on YouTube review it and affectionately refer to it as a "slutty grandma scent" which I can say is %100 percent accurate. At first spray all you smell is the pink, shell shaped and rose scented novelty soaps that take you back to being a kid and washing your hands in your grandparent's bathroom. Only after fully blooming do you notice the bitter saffron, and the fleshy animalic accords that can only be described as shower sex while covered in aldehydic soap. It's filthy, it's not for everyone, but it's damn beautiful. It's a perfume that would be well loved by Blanche from the Golden Girls, or Chandler's mom on Friends.

Through the years I tend to shift through my roses in fragrances and this is the dirty elegant one. The kind of scent that you wear with an amazing evening gown, stunning lingerie underneath offcourse, at the opera, a fancy dinner party, some event where you want to be the glamorous, elegant woman in charge that turns people's heads just by entering a room or silently passing by with confidence. And confidence is something you definitely need in order to wear this scent. It screams "take me, but you have to deserve it because I can flip your world in ways beyond imagination". No need to show a lot of skin, or try to hard because this scent radiates sofisticated sexapeel and vintage glamour that you can feel on your skin for 12+ hours and with more than two sprays can fill up a room with it's presence. If this is the vibe you are willing to pull off than this nectar of roses smothered in smoky musky powdery woods is the perfect scent for you. For the woman ready to hold the world at the palm of her hand but be cautious about overspraying because it can be a bit overwhelming for some. Try to find your perfect dose of this fragrance for your skin, the perfect occasion for it.

I bought Agent Provocateur captivated by its retro bottle and evocative name. I wasn't quite sure what to expect since the reviews were so mixed: a polarizing scent for many. After testing it for a while I can confirm that I like it very much. At the first spray, the uniqueness of the saffron note stands out, temporarily pervading the entire fragrance. As it warms on the skin, floral delicacy emerges, with the prominence of Moroccan rose dancing on the hints of saffron, creating a sensual interplay between harsh and warm notes that alternate. The base notes mute the fragrance as the hours pass, making it woody and musky. It is a fragrance that exudes a secret and deep sensuality, the allure of old-fashioned elegance, of a lady in a carriage wrapped in refined lingerie. It possesses many facets and it is not for everyone, but only for those who love to live their sensuality in a hidden and intense way. Agent Provocateur bewitches the senses like an ancient elixir. Its complex floral and spicy notes are a hymn to the secrets of the heart. To wear it is to release one's daring spirit, to savour femininity from behind the veil of timeless elegance.

I was really put off by a previous bottle I had of this (2017) because it had a really strong violet note which actually made it seem too similar to the MAITRESSE version for me. I already had that so this seemed extraneous. It was just a cacophony of notes vying for attention, rendering a disjointed violet-rose-woods mess. 🙅🤦 The bottle I've got now (2015) doesn't smell like violet and instead smells of rich, woody, sweet, powdered, thorny roses and tobacco. 🌹 It seems higher quality, better blended. I feel it's more in line with, say, LUSH's Imogen Rose. I've only got an old stick version and one 30ml bottle of that so having a big ass bottle of this Agent Provocateur is totally 😍😍😍😍😍 I think the bottle I had before was a reformulation that had changed the scent completely, whereas, I wonder that perhaps the version I have now might actually be closer to the scent as it was originally intended, only... perhaps watered down and made less... Animalic? (Basing this observation on other reviewers' comments) Possibly changes made due to restrictions in perfumery and cutting costs? This one is fabulous, whatever the reasons. 👌

It is such a nicely blend rosey powder perfume, not a complex one though, which relaxes my mind tbh. I remember my mother wearing it in Moscow in 2010! Its not sweet, not ambery, not warm, I decide to wear it in the colder seasons. Things that come to my mind when I spray the perfume: Dry roses that have a sourness to them, minutes later I smell sth really woody and also spicyy, like a sharpened lip pencil or a spice bazaar with dry spice flakes in the middle east. The sourness does not leave the picture but it goes from a sourness to a powderness, which stays for about 6 hours on the skin. I would say the powderness is the one that the colour of the flacon stands for. In the beginning I imagine/associate the smell to be pupur red/wine-ish purple (like the saffran picture maybe?) On your clothes and hair it will stay forever. I am a 22 year old female but enjoy it to the fullest, even though I understand people that are scared away by a grandma’s smell. For my liking it could leave a better sillage, its not a beast mode but for sure a signature scent.

Out of all of the scents I’ve tried so far, this one has taken the longest time to figure out. It also performs very different based on the time of year I’m wearing it. When I wore it this summer, I noticed that the beginning was more spicy but it vanished pretty quickly. Now that the weather has gotten cooler, it’s not spicy at all but it lasts longer. The rose is more prominent, and the dry down is more tart and powdery. I also had a lot of fun experimenting with layering options for this scent: I wouldn’t layer this over Diamonds and Rubies again because it ends up smelling like ground-up Flinstones chewable vitamins 😑 However, it works pretty well when layered over Halston Classic, Jōvan (White) Musk Woman, Obsession, or the lotion for Cabotine. I also got good results layering it over the last of my Little Pot of Energy lotion. It’s not the vampy sex goddess scent I initially thought it would be, but I am still very glad I got to try it out. I may get another bottle down the line when I run out.

AGENT PROVOCATEUR can be a unisex fragrance from niche perfume perspective. I smell bunch of sticky pungent roses, slightly powdery jasmine and a little bit of saffron, too. Coriander isn’t listed but noticeable. When it tones down, vetiver and musk really shows. Is it because of the ingredients such as INDIAN saffron, MOROCCAN rose and EGYPTIAN Jasmine on the Perfume Pyramid ....a vast image of historical exotic tradings from Arabian Sea comes to mind. I noticed the stinky nuance at the top slightly resembling DIPTYQUE OUD PALAO and OUD ISPAHAN by DIOR. This perfume is perfect for any rose lover who also enjoys retro-smelling fragrances. This scent is very... grandmother-oriented, but in the best possible way. Think lace doilies, cozy handmade quilts, and freshly washed, soft white hair... ok I may be specifically, mostly thinking of my own grandmother when I wear this. I was surprised that this was only made in 2000, it smells like it could be from the 50s or 60s. I want to say that I can smell some of the other notes, but to my untrained nose she smells just like rose, nothing more. She's truly lovely, and the fact that she lasts all day AND can be worn day and night makes me love her even more. I can see how some would think it just smells like rose soap, it is very one-dimensional and doesn't evolve much, what you smell at first spray is what you get. All this being said, I wouldn't label this my most seductive perfume, but definitely one good for bedtime and cozying up. I'd repurchase this for sure

When I first bought this at launch, it was the strongest smelling scent I possessed (and I'd worn original YSL Opium in the 80's) with the greatest longevity. In recent years I've gone all in on some powerful beauties which should, sometimes, been seen only as the occasion fits (ahem, I'm looking at you Papillon Salome) This has a strong opening that may sometimes come across as too much, blasting Saffron, Magnolia, Jasmine and Rose. Dry down takes a looong while, but soon the musk and amber bed in to soften the symphony, and allow the rose and jasmine to shine. Not as Animalic as some, such as VW Boudoir, Salome, Nectary etc. This works hard, 12 hours, or more on fabric. I'm currently using a bottle from around 2010, with another still wrapped. I don't use it often as I have an expansive niche collection, but I come back to this time and again over the decades. Always fashionable, and very inexpensive.

Very good. The rose stands out (on me at least), it's a fantastic recreation of what a rose smells like, which slowly turns powdery. It has a slightly vintage/decadent Moulin Rouge vibe, so I can understand the sensuality here. I also feel that "skin" they talk about. It's very particular, they say you love it or hate it. I don't understand why you could hate this beauty, unless you were expecting that dolce, trendy "commercial" perfume. and this is not. I find myself smelling my wrists a lot:) i guess it shows how much i'm loving this fragrance! EDIT: it stands out in my frag collection. It is long lasting. I love when i feel the fragrance, and this one really embraces me. I showed this gem juice to a friend of mine and she loved it too instantly. Deep, gorgeous, unique, retro-ish in a great way, perhaps turning into my favourite in my frag collection! btw, that pink bottle is heavy and beautiful!
