Petale Noir

If I look below I wonder if I have another perfume because PH or not, skin or not I find it hard to believe that a perfume that is by definition an earthy one can ends up smelling aquatic or "sweet boudoir", even if it has in theory aquatic notes. Is one to have a note and smell as a wet ground for example, and other to smell "aquatic" itself. This can be easily confused with a Patou's perfumes, but it has a note that Patou avoids, namely tobacco, I admit that I would never have thought that a brand that makes lingerie can produce such a thing, because it has nothing to do with the image of a woman in lingerie, thanks Heaven for that. All the madness with this perfume started when I found it in the boutique from where I buy my wonders, I heard about AP, not a fan, Triumph&Eres forever sorry, anyway but I knew it was a British lingerie brand but one that goes more on the American subsidiary, still I bought it whiteout test it because of the box, stupid reason but true, the box is very charming. I didn't expect much from it sincerely, so I didn't test immediately when I arrived home but when I did...fantastic, it's a Sublime by Patou with something, probably the ylang, from 1000 Patou and a tobacco, but not any, a mentholated one. I'm not a fan of tobacco, I always thought that if you want to smell as tobacco you don't need expensive perfume, just go and stay next to some who smoke, if you don't much better because the smell will practically stick to you after, so no, not for me, but in some perfumes doesn't bother me. In this case the tobacco base is proeminent but still soft, you can feel it but is a light mentholated one like those fancy Vogue cigarette from years ago, under its light rise a very green earthy wet smell, like a wild pasture after a torrential rain, shy from behind emerges a very beautiful lotus and ylang and maybe some neroli, sincerely the other flowers are absent for my nose, but I feel a citrus shadow, some violet leaf and a hint of suede indeed. The scent is not at all like Anais, Anais is a white floral by definition this one not. One over all, I like it a lot and I see this being wore to a business dark green velvet outfit, but the longevity kills me slowly just 30 minutes on clothes and on skin seconds probably, sooo I will try some tricks to make it last longer, but unfortunately this takes from the pleasure of the perfume ritual.

AP Petale Noir is a truly "WOW!!!" fragrance, to my nose! it's unlike a LOT of things, and LIKE very few; very unusual! I didn't really know what to think or say about it, at first, and usually I'm at no loss for words! But here, I turn to another Fragrantica reviewer, who.am.i.you, who said, Petale Noir is a "gorgeous magnolia leather tobacco fragrance (has that been done before?) .... a cigar wrapped in white flowers ..."! It's "bitter flowers," as Enigmatic Scent put it, a "flowerish leather ... a bit indolic, as if flowers started dying ...." (reviewer 4 x 4), with "an intriguingly murky element" (dsty). It has an old school, vintage feel, even if it was blended in 2012. Unusual flowers, leather, tobacco, bitterness, murkiness, vintage vibes -- EXACTLY my cup of tea! Thank you to those folks who so clearly identified what I love about it. <3 I tried it next to one of the perfumes it's frequently compared to above, Anais Anais, and well, nope, not much alike at all, to my nose, nor to Cacharel Eden. So I tried it next to the original Agent Provocateur (it resembles it a bit, but just in the chypre-like opening, and after that, not so much) and next to Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds (!), because there's a sort of medicinal note that reminds me of my childhood dentist (who I loved so it's a positive memory). Finally, I got out my magnolia collection, and that was the only thing Petale Noir was really similar to: Britany Spears Curious (but that one's super clean), Guerlain Idylle, and most of all, Lanvin Rumeur. Yes, that's what it most resembles in my current collection, at least -- Rumeur. Nonetheless, Rumeur is sweeter at the base, while Petale Noir is bitter. Mmmmmmm...! Petale Noir is just SO original and I completely love it. It has that wonderful play of opposites that many of the best, most complex perfumes have: the young and fresh + the mature and almost over-ripe, the light, cleanness of the flowers + the earthy, animal quality of the leather, the metallic, almost medicinal note that comes from I-have-no-idea-what + the dirty sweetness of the tobacco leaf. I'm so impressed with every single Agent Provocateur perfume I've ever tried and now have quite a little collection: Petale Noir, the original, Maitresse, L'Agent, and Blue Satin.

I've decided it's time to do more reviews on some long-loved fragrances. This is a lady. She is a lady with total confidence, and while she is refined, she is not shy. She will hold her own in any discussion, but will opt out once the argument becomes emotional. She simply has no interest in emotional banter. She has a bite to her when it is needed, but does not use it to hurt, only to keep perspective in order. She is confident in every situation, but is not necessarily most comfortable. She thrives with her books and her art. She is hungry for stimulating conversation. She dislikes social pretense and fashion of the day, yet she carries herself with timeless style. I love this scent. For the first hour or so, it is a spicy floral with the rose and patchouli dominating. The range of distinct floral notes in this scent reveal themselves beautifully as it develops. After about an hour, I get the rose, LOV (which is not a favorite note, but here it is done well), hyacinth, musk, patchouli, and a bit of leather. This is feminine and sexy. It is suitable for daytime (as I chose to wear it today), but WILL be detected. I put 4 sprays on (a lot for my regular routine), and it has no intention of letting up 6 hours later. This is such a lovely scent. Certainly it is more suitable for colder seasons, but I have every intention of enjoying my decant when I am in Haiti. It's a pleasantly warm (not hot) day today, and this is radiating nicely. Not sure why it posted twice... once as a guest? Oh well!

I blind bought petal noir about 4 months ago and not knowing what to expect i was really intrigued by it, i liked it but couldn't figure out when i could wear it. It was completely different from the perfumes i was used to wearing (i was new to the vast world of fragrances apart from fruity florals:)). Every day i would spray some on my hand and immediatly could smell aldehydes, magnolia and leather. Soon the tabacco would come out. It's very dewy, modern chypre style but feels a little vintage. Very unique. Eventually i swapped it away and months later found myself craving this perfume, craving all the notes, the dewy sweetness of the florals with the dark leather and tobacco, . I've sampled many perfumes of every kind since then and still proclaim that petal noir is beautiful,unique, strange and addictive. I do find it "noir" i bought this beauty again and will hold onto it tightly and wear it worth confidence. It's very long lasting on me and sillage is wonderful. Dewy,dark,sweet, chypre floral,major leather and tobacco notes all beautifully blended, it's now one of my favorites. I also have l'agent and agree that they are similar in dna, you can smell that they are sisters.

There is no way that I can write a review and describe this incredible fragrance, but I will try. It is exquisitely floral!! As others have mentioned, there are so many floral notes, it almost boggles the mind and certainly the nose. However, I can actually smell the various flowers, if I close my eyes and just inhale their loveliness. All of these flowers could have been a cacophony, but they are so perfectly blended, they are euphoric! The violet leaves, oak moss and vetiver artfully tie everything together. I also smell a spiciness similar to carnation, which is not mentioned, but there is definitely some spice! This fragrance is visceral, sexy, sultry and feminine. It ends up bold, not sweet and shy like the top notes might lead you to guess. This scent has guts for the lady who has the guts to wear it. I am truly smitten with this "provocative" fragrance! Oh! Did I mention that the bottle is just gorgeous? No? Well, it is! Sillage is moderate to heavy, depending on how much you spray Longevity on me is long-lasting

This instantly threw me back to the 80s..Something vintage, I have definitely smelled something similar before, but long time ago, maybe Anais Anais, or Poison maybe? Or maybe it`s the profusion of notes that does this trick.. In my opinion it is not really a noir scent either. It is rather cold, bit sharp, but rich and interesting. I`d rather name it `Petale Cruelle`. It opens up a bit sweet and syrupy, just like AP, and gradually as it starts to dry down as it unfolds. On me there`s not much leather - magnolia and tobacco and musk, then rose, it is hard to point out what I smell exactly cos there are so many notes flying around. . Agent Provocateur totally surprises me, in a good way..Because nether PN nor AP are the type of scents I`d typically go for, but yet I do find them nice and interesting - maybe because you`d expect something sweet or fruity, and what you get is nothing of the sort..Feminine, spicy, complex, with a vintage vibe. Now there I said it..

This was a blind buy- I love florientals, but hadn't thought about what leather would be like in one. So of course, the second I saw the notes in Petale Noir, I had to buy and try! On my skin this is surprisingly demure, with a true leather note at the base that is both restrained and sexy. PN opens with a strong magnolia/hyacinth accord. I get ginger, vetiver, and labdenum in the heart, and then tobacco, leather, and plummy osmanthus in the dry down, with just a touch of rose. This is surprisingly attractive! I honestly thought it would be weird, and bought it for a lark. Petale Noir isn't a biker babe in thigh high stiletto boots, not at all. PN is a leather pencil skirt worn with mid heels, pearls, and a french twist. Restrained, not repressed. Edgy, not obvious. And very, very intriguing. Lasts forever! EDIT: Terribly addictive. I keep reaching for it, and everything else seems boring...

I don't want to get into a debate or anything but in terms of the model as other people have commented on, I personally think she seems to look skinnier than she actually is because of the way she's laying, that's all I'm going to say about that. About the fragrance. I blind bought this, and oh my goodness I'm so glad that I did! I bought it from a shop having a really good sale but they didn't have any testers, however I'd seen some reviews and I thought it was probably something I'd like and I was right! On first spray it's a bit interesting, quite sharp and peppery but once it settles the florals come out. I definitely smell the leather but I really like that quality. And I smell the woods.. The floral part smells quite powdery and the whole lot together just really gels well, I really love it. My only qualm is that I only have a 30ml bottle.. gonna need a bigger one...

i ordered this perfume online, besides other lengerie.i must say that this perfume smells really seductive and unique. i was afraid it will smell something cheap like some of the victorias's secrets perfumes.But i was wrong. Thanks God :) I was always a big fan of fruity smells ,something like ''Jimmy Choo'' perfume or ''La Vie est belle'' by Lancome or ''Midnight fantasy'' and ''Fantasy'' by Britney Spears. Never was a fan of floral scents. But this perfume surprised me. At the beginning it seemed to me somehow similar to Chanel COCO Noir perfume. It's more for a mature, elegant,determined woman ,who knows what she wants.Surely not for a teenager ...It's a mixture of lots of notes. I would wear it just in the evening . I'm glad i like it, cause i'm so finicky... haha.I will purchase some other perfumes from Agent Provocateur for sure :)xx

I love AP perfumes (not all, some I hate) and this one is one of my favourites. It is very well blended, the notes do not fall apart and you feel the whole accord together. As many already said it is flowerish leather. It is a bit indolic, as if flowers started dying. It has a tobacco vibe, not cigarettes, but tobacco leaves. You need to try to understand, as it is hard to say from the notes above. I am now on medication which makes me feeling nauseous, and most perfumes just add to it. Can not use gourmand, vanilla, amber, most of musk, neroli, flowers and anything sweet. I am surprised that Petale Noir actually makes me feeling better. It is not sweet or heavy. Also, it is not "happy" perfume. It is calm and even a bit sad perfume.

This one caught me off guard. I bought it blindly and put it on to test as I was getting ready for my sweetie to come over and watch the baseball playoffs while we cozied up on the couch. The scent started out as a sweet innocent floral, but as the evening progressed, it deepened and darkened, it became seductive and sexy, like leaning over to whisper in his ear. Then it became even darker as my skin heated it up until it was downright naughty. I might have been wearing a tank top and boy shorts, but I felt like I was in a purple lace Agent Provocateur playsuit, batting my lashes. People say it takes a LOT to turn a mans attention away from a baseball game during playoffs, but I say it only takes a few sprays of Petale Noir.

I didn't think that I would find a fragrance from Agent Provocateur that I at least liked. Usually after researching any designer, I will at least find one that I at least a like. I tried 4 from AP before trying one last one......Petale Noir. This is an amazing fragrance on me. Surprised........most definitely! The combination of notes is unusual at best. Not only do I enjoy wearing this, I enjoy the beautiful bottle too. That is a silly reason to like a fragrance, but it doesn't hurt to add to the experience! I am surprised at the people that truly hate this one. I guess it something that needs a test before buying blind. Good luck!!

This is my favourite of the agent provocateur perfumes and the one I receive the most spontaneous compliments about. Despite the many notes listed, it reads as a fresh, uncomplicated ''rose bud in the morning dew'' scent on me and is green and fresh without any particularly woody notes and, on me, no smokiness. It is an innocent, light rosebud perfume that is nevertheless mature enough to be worn by an older woman and has none of the overly sweet, artificial notes of so many modern rose perfumes. The only issue for me is one of longevity as it does not last long on my skin. A very pretty springtime perfume for night or day.

Love at first sniff!!! this is really special and last forever intriguing me because l can smell it around me all the time. In the same family of Chloe love .They smell different but I feel in the same mode wearing them. The name is dark petal but for me is not dark is deep spicy ,maybe the sexy ,dark side of magnolia . RETRO vibe ,but in the same time modern and seductive .White flower, green, soapy vibe with spicy leather . Powerful ,bomb sillage and longevity. If you love retro smells don't miss it ...is a hidden gem...love

I really like this scent, every time I wear it I like it a little bit more. It does remind me of Narciso Rodriguez EDT, but I prefer this, probably because of the woody notes which I love. I haven't tried it in a warmer climate but I can imagine it being lovely on a warm spring day or a summer evening. I wore it to work today and got several compliments and I could still smell it nine hours later without having to reapply.

This years "noir" offerings seem to be a let down across most brands. There is nothing noir about this, it is a floaty floral with no real depth. Suitable for summer in my opinion or day to day office wear. This and Givenchy's Dahlia Noir have seriously disappointed me so they're not on my Christmas list. Edit: Yup, summer is right, the depth has appeared and i love it! It just doesn't work in the colder months for me.

This perfume is like an early morning in woodland during a spring time... Its very musky, woody and green . There is lots of flowers as well but only noticeable after spraying .Its definitely a sexy fragrance for daytime , very long lasting , Agent Provocateur make the most unique scents ever , and Petale Noir is surely one of a kind...

A lot of these agent provacateur perfumes remind me a lot of those from the late 1970's to all of the 1980's and into the 1990's. Which is a good thing. It sort of reminds me of Amarige Givenchy, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Parfum D'or, Animale Animale by Animale. It dosen't really remind me of Aqua Allegoria Flora Nymphea.

This is the best formulated perfume ever! I absolutely love it! I am on my 3rd bottle, this is a perfume for life! If you like, floral/woody/oriental scents you will definitely enjoy this one. I love to wear it during spring and summer, it's like walking to a fields full of flowers and greenery.I also adore the bottle

I bought a sample this sniffee. I have other AP fragrances but they just seemed off so I have never bought a full size. That is..until now. It's a floral mishmash that works. I can tell that it could be overused bomb but I applied it lightly. I smell six hours later on my wrist so it does have some longevity.

Love this. Smelt sooo good I thought people were looking at me. Can only describe it as expensive smelling. summer holiday. Sexy Italian lady. Sort of a very sexy, evening, 4711 mixed with white florals. If you smell it, you will know what I mean.

How is this such a pretty little floral but still naughty and sexy as heck?! THIS is the AP I love. Very beautiful, a little bit of a vintage-feel, and did I mention that's it's sexy? Because it's sexy. Yow.

Britney Spears’ Curious grew up, took up smoking, started dressing up in vintage clothes and listening to old torch songs. A coming of age scent.

Just an fyi to anyone looking at this, the Fragrantica notes are a little bit off. Here's the official list, as advertised on the packaging of my genuine and original tester: Top: Mandarin, Water Lily, Bergamot, Magnolia Middle: Rose Absolute, Ylang Ylang, Neroli, Orris Base: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Amber To me, it smells like a lovely and romantic scent. It's mainly just soft aquatic florals with a bit of powderiness (with a hint of sweetness; almost like smelling powdered sugar from marshmallows faintly in the air, but not in a synthetic way; everything is very natural smelling) in addition to some light musk and gentle woodiness to balance things out. The very beginning reminded me of parma violets sweets with a clean soapiness to it. There's something so beautiful about this scent that makes me keep going back to spraying my wrists (probably the dreamy water lily). It's very playful in an innocent and sensual way. Very pretty and feminine! It makes me think of a picture of delicate water nymphs in a magical garden setting with beautiful water and greenery around. It's something you imagine your 'muse' smelling or looking like. I really cannot understand anyone saying that there are heavy notes such as leather or any sort of smokiness in here, let alone any sort of embodiment of "death" or "decay". I guess it just goes to show that people will smell what you tell them it will smell like. The name is subsequently not very fitting; there is nothing "noir" (black) here; quite the opposite actually. It's very gentle, feminine, soft, even a bit linear which I quite like because it means you're mainly just on the magic of the lovely florals. It would be perfect for spring or summer when it's not too hot, but also even in winter I think it would be so enveloping and magical.

I love the top notes, at first spray. I wish this would stay and dance around my skin and clothes forever... But I have to keep spraying and keep spraying.. It doesn't stay on my skin at all. So, I spray very generously on my clothes. (Mostly my pajamas and bathrobe lately)... Yeah, it's the year of the pandemic! But that aside, because this is about PERFUME, I spray spray spray on my fuzzy pink bathroom and I try different types of fabric because it seems like this fades on clothing too.. I don't know, maybe I've got that olfactory fatigue going on with this scent (after the first glorious spray arrives and fades away). UGH. For now, I can't even describe the scent. I need to take a break from it. I'll try again. For now though, this isn't cutting it for me. A beautiful fragrance but no staying power whatsoever and so so so very weak. But again, it might be my nose... who knows! In the meantime, I've revisited the original Agent Provocateur. Well, not the original formulation (I WISH!), but you know what I mean. And I'm much happier with this vs. the Petale Noir, for reasons said above. Has anyone had a better time with the Petale Noir in regards to it staying even for 5 minutes on your skin? EDIT: She may not last long... but this turned out to be one of my most used/reached for little fragrances. And especially, now that she's a rare find, it seems.. I cherish my Petal Noire. (whether she lasts long or not). She's beautiful. One word, 'lotus flower'. She's all lotus flower, on me. Feminine, almost aquatic, sweet floral. Almost like the smell of sweet pea, to my nose.

This seems to be quite a polarizing perfume -no indifference, it's either a like (love) or a hate. I just had to get it. This is really very complex, mysterious and adult scent, it's very changing, almost like it "feels" my mood, "reads" my mind. The opening is fresh, dewy hyacinth, but then suddenly something sour and quite strong interrupts that gorgeous hyacinth scent. In 5 minutes that sour, strange note is gone, but the hyacinth becomes stronger, aromatic, more adult. The opening could be misunderstood because it's very rich, there's so many notes and nobody knows which notes will be more pronounced on your skin. The base - sensual, sexy in a reserved way, not screaming, just tempting. And I get some aromatic, almost earthy, golden honey, which makes me think about Elie Saab Le Parfum - the same warm, thick, flowery honey drops. It's like the voice of Patricia Kaas, something "smoky", deep, complex and warming. You have to take your time to understand it, to like it. And I think the bottle reflects perfectly the perfume - the bottle is very sophisticated, light pink, romantic,flower drawings, golden lines and there's on the top- a black chain... very naughty indeed. :) A big like from me. P.S. I still keep reading "an old lady smell" ... Very sad about that kind of expression. There are other ways to describe the impressions in English.

Quite a petal here! Usually I'm not a big fan of florals, especially white florals... but this one is intriguing. First of all, it's not overly sweet! In fact, it starts a little sharp, due to leather notes i would think. Then it subsides to flowers, mostly i detect magnolia, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, and something that I'm not quite sure how to identify.. decaying flowers maybe. Is it called indole? Believe me, as strange as it sounds - it is very pleasant! The notes tell you it's going to be a bomb, but it's not! Floral perfume with a twist - that's what it is :) Have you ever walked in the midst of a tropical forest? When i close my eyes and smell Petale Noir, I find myself in this really humid, almost damp forest, so dense and therefore dark. Thickness of the air catches vapour from plants and earth, exotic flowers and tree roots, and most importantly - body heat. Some sultry tropical forest...

I agree with many of my fellow Fragranticans on the total lack of 'noir' here, which is not a bad thing per se of course. 'Petals' however: sure, and lots of them; beautiful ones. This is to my nose big on the osmanthus and especially ylang-ylang, making this a happy fragrance. I don't care much for age or sex in perfumery, but the personality of this perfume is feminine and elegant to me, confident but kind-hearted, cheerful -perhaps even bubbly- but in a subdued, rather demure way. AP Pétale Noire is a well-balanced and rounded fragrance that does not reveal its very modest price tag. Classy? Definitely. Having received it a couple of days ago after purchasing it blindly, I'm just not in the mood for it now. Maybe I will be; maybe I won't. Right now, I'm more in the mood for a tougher cookie, but that doesn't stop me from recognising a nice quality perfume when I smell it.

The notes list seems a mess, instead the perfume itself is very pleasant. I'm glad I could test before buying (in the future?) and I like that it's not widespread where I live. It started very floral and fresh, almost like an innocent floral. My first impression was: "Is this meant to be AP?" I already own regular AP and it's nothing to play around since the beginning. Well... give it 5 minutes and you will smell the typical AP's factor, no matter what it is. It gets deeper and deeper, not too dark and thanks god nor gloomy (like AP L'agent) and in 30 minutes you will smell like a laced lady in an old style brothel though an elegant one. At least, this is the imagery here as a work of fantasy since I've never been in a brothel in my life. It clings to both skin and fabrics.

Ahh today I love you, and you embrace my love with all your floral conjunction. So today is a happy day, because you really are a moody one, sometimes we hate each other and you bite me with your screeches. But today you are behaving, and it is a floriental love. I understand those who don't care for Petale Noir, I guess some of those who dislike it expected a more dark mysterious scent, but instead Petale Noir is a beautiful floral, a classical scent, remminicent of older perfumes which is why I like it is so much. It is not soft, but sharp and quite strong, but as it develops and softens it becomes dangerously feminine. I compare it to Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, not scentwise, but the way it feel's to me, a certain sexy edginess.

The first time I tried this, I hated it. I guess I wasn't ready for such a big, old-school floral. And to be fair, AP scents are loud on me. But after trying Maitresse and L'Agent, and having nearly 2 years in since the first time I tried it, I thought it was worth giving another shot. I really like it! Still not sure if it is a love, but I can see myself buying a FB. On me this is all about the floral notes. I can't pick them out individually, but there's no mistaking that they're there. The leather and patchouli are there, but I agree that it isn't really a dark scent like the name would suggest. Definitely a sexy one, though.

A very confusing first wear. It almost feels like a soliflore, which is hard to believe when looking at the listed notes. A cooling white floral. There's something very nostalgic, almost melancholically beautiful about it for me. But I want that leather and tobacco, so I'll keep trying it out in different conditions. Not meek but has a transparency that makes it quite wearable. Tenacious without being too too showy. Bottle is gorgeous, probably my favourite from AP so far. Edit: The opening specifically is breezy, fruity and dryly sweet. I feel a little bit of smokiness coming through. Very bright.

This was a blind buy for me and at the first spray I hated it. Very spicy and indeed (as some reviews state) a bit masculine. I was surely going to sell it or give it away, but then I smelled my sweater a few days later and thought wow! What's that intriguing scent? Turns out it was Petale Noir and I'm actually starting to like it more and more. It's definitely an extraordinary scent, and something that maybe has to grow on you, like it did for me! I would say it's almost 'somewhat' unisex, but better worn by a woman. It's not the best I've ever smelled, but certainly pleasant and outstanding.

The perfume reminds me of bitter flowers. This bitterness makes it mysterious and unique, and that is what I love about this perfume. I would define the scent as deep, dark florals. In my opinion, the name "Petale Noir" describes the perfume very well. I imagine white and pink flowers, but there is something dark and mysterious about them. And I love this kind of scents. Longevity is about 4-5 hours. I prefer not to wear this perfume to work. It just doesn't create the right mood for work. I like to wear it on the weekend and sometimes in the evening. Love the bottle as well.

So this was a blind buy for me - I recently purchased it as I wanted to try something new as a daytime wear for summer. When you first spray it, you get a rather overwhelming waft of powdery florals and bitter citrus which can be somewhat nauseating in larger doses. Fortunately, once it dries down, it's a very pleasant lovechild of Chanel's Coco Noir and Cacharel's Eden, both of which I'm a fan of. I like it. I'm not obsessed with it, but I certainly do not regret buying it. Will I repurchase it again? No. But I am enjoying it enough.

I had high hopes for this one. I received it along with other Agent Provocateur fragrance samples. It opens with a slightly aquatic note and it is a pretty fruity floral with a dominant magnolia note. I don't find it "noir". The leather and tobacco notes are very subdued. It's pretty. I'm going to see how it progresses. .... I've tried it three times... A pretty scent, but nothing special. The acquatic opening reminds me of Acqua di Gio. A decent one, but there's nothing characteristic or intriguing to make it a FBW fragrance for me.

I have discovered that for me, this is a warm weather scent!!! It was winter when I bought the bottle, and I wasn't too impressed with this "blind buy." It was merely ok. Now that I am trying to pare down my collection, I retested it the other day and discovered how lovely it really is! It is possible that the flowery opening of the scent on my skin makes it feel more suitable for warmer temps than my usual "heavy hitters" that are my cold weather favorites.

I really liked this one! It has a very specific vibe I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's a bit old school? I wore it a lot, but ended up giving it to my best friend because for some reason it just reminded me of her, and it fit her much better. It's a bright, "white" scent, clean but not so much, with a tobacco note. Like if there was flavored tobacco used in a hookah or something? For summer nights maybe? Very eccentric madame.

This has a strong bubblebathy Magnolia note. It's structurally similar to Jolie Madame, but with Magnolia instead of violet. If you don't like that weird, watery Magnolia note, you won't like this - it lasts most of the way through. The drydown is pretty standard patch & vetiver with almost a bit of that burnished edge that comes from saffron. I get no moss. But again, the Magnolia.

sprays on a bitter vanilla in the top opening, some odd sour note but then the sharp aldehydes and florals rise with lily of the valley prominent along with magnolia and hyacinth and lilac. There is some musk in the base. This reminds me of those sharp florals of the 80s and 90s (not the big white floral bombs) like Le Jardin or Anais Anais.

I don't normally gravitate towards florals but this is a beautiful, dewy bouquet of flowers in fragrance form. Even though there is nothing classically dark about it I can see where the "noir" comes from, there is nothing carefree about this. It is deep, serious and almost a bit boozy, carnal if you put your mind to it. Very nice.

This is enchanting! Uber feminine floral with personality and flair. It makes me happy to wear it and get whiffs of it during the day. All the notes perfectly blended, not to overwhelm but to enhance the person wearing it. Just delightful!

very light sillage, modest longevity. After the first fifteen minutes it pretty much becomes a skin scent, but the combination of leather and rose is divine!

Gardenia pops out loud on me but it wraps in herby whiff to tone the sweetness down.

I am finally ready to admit the truth about how I feel about this one; here's my review before I rehome it. I've owned Petale Noir for maybe eight years as part of my robust collection of Agent Provocateur fragrances (some of which are among my absolute favorite scents). It shares some of the same sexy, unabashed, neo-vintage, unique DNA of other AP frags. However, there's some important differences. Like an actual vintage perfume, Petale Noir has A LOT of notes. Its composition is complex, and probably extra sensitive to the wearer's chemistry--as seems to be the case for a lot of vintage perfumes. It has the musky, powdery, vetiver, labdanum base that I LOVE. It has the ylang-ylang, rose, osmanthus, etc. filling out the middle. However, violet leaf (I think is the culprit) dominates the top notes. It cuts through the intoxicating, resinous, essence with something sharp and green--it's jarring. On the drydown, the violet leaf relaxes just a bit, but then evolves into something aldehydic. The green, aldehydic element in this otherwise great fragrance is impossible to ignore. I realize that aldehydes aren't in the notes, but something in the way the notes mix and settle create a similar experience. Petale Noir is not a bad fragrance by any means. I can definitely see why people would like it. But for folks like me who cannot wear certain notes like aldehydes, it may not work. Ultimately, fragrances should make the wearer feel more confident/sexy/powerful/etc. It doesn't do that for me, sadly. So, it shall find a new home where it will be appreciated for what it is.

So the first thing I’ll say is that it is completely remarkable that I didn’t run and scrub this off immediately. If I had seen the number of floral notes before I tried the sample, I might never have tried it at all. But let’s get to the interesting part... I actually enjoyed a floral perfume despite normally avoiding florals entirely. A friend passed the sample to me and it is a reminder to keep an open mind. Some impressions from other reviewers that I agree with: There is bitterness here, a vintage quality, power while the scent lasts but its life is very brief on me. It IS almost like the flowers are dying, and hence a sad perfume... and I usually go for happy scents. Another thing that surprises me is that so many people find the non floral elements prominent enough to call it something other than floral. I perceived no tobacco no fruit no leather— nope, pretty much just magically tolerable flowers and maybe a hint of cedar Anyway the perfume world is a weird place where interesting adventure happens. This was fun for me but I would not purchase the scent.

This sample is my first Agent Provocateur, and my expectations were pretty low: based on the note list and marketing I was expecting one of those comfortably feminine, warm, elegant, sexy scents that I like well enough, especially on others, but can't muster much enthusiasm for. And it does dry down to that, but I was pleasantly surprised by the opening. On first spray, I was unexpectedly, pleasantly reminded of The Different Company's I miss Violet - I guess it must be the combination of violet leaf, fruity notes and leather. They don't really smell alike, and there's an intriguingly murky element added in this one, but they have that same smooth, transparently sweet vibe which I personally like very much. I was googling bottle prices before it turned more generic and more like I was expecting, and I decided it wasn't for me after all. Too bad, but I'm intrigued - I want to sample more from Agent Provocateur, especially their famous rose scent!

Not my favorite from AP. I expected more mystery, going by many a note, but i just got "green". It is wet flower garden and freshly cut green grass. Nothing special nor unique, has been done to death. I have quite a few from AP and this is a first one to leave me wanting.
