Onyx Pearl

This smells like glossy comic book paper, or trading card hard plastic encasings. I keep thinking about GL Kyle Rayner when I smell this. I reserve this for the windy nights of contemplation. In essence, I really like the quality of notes used and the way they stack is 👌- I think when I empty the bottle that I'd need to replace it with another OP because is there another that's truly superior in what this is conveying??

A very vivid and daring fragrance! Cedar, leather and musc give one a cool sensation. But one doesn’t perceive it as to chilly since the decent floral notes and amber soften that impression. Due to the touch of agarwood the scent becomes full and rich. It seems as if behind the cool top the scent has a warm heart. A very interesting scent with charismatic character for a person with corresponding personality.

Alfarom has given a review with which I agree 110%. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 10/10 Sillage: 8/10 Cost ratio: 4/10 Overall: 7.5/10 I'm torn because I could have liked this fragrance yet something is missing. Oh well...

The opening few seconds (actually make that 30 mins or more) was a massive rush up my nose of migraine inducing laundry musk - I seriously thought this was going to bring on a massive headache! The opening reminded me so much of when I was very young and I and my friend would wait for her older sister to go out so we could rush upstairs to raid her make-up drawer and liberally douse ourselves in her White Musk perfume feeling all 'grown up'! But wait - after around 30-60 mins I suddenly smelt a gorgeous oud-based floral drift past my nose - very similar to something that Al Rehab would have on sale and at this point I was thinking that this is very much like an Arabian attar in that it grows in stature over time. I wallowed in this delightful fragrance for around an hour and then asked my son what he thought of it - he said it was wonderful but couldn't smell it unless he put his nose to my wrist; which was odd to me as I could smell the projection quite strongly and I was at that point thinking some here had lost their olfactory senses! Clearly my nose was picking up the oud and floral notes (more along a rose than a mixed floral) far more than others here and my son as well. Drying down, gradually the patchouli came pushing through and alongside the oud reminded me of the early 70's - when I would buy a 'Red bus Rover' and set off for Carnaby Street on a Saturday for a look around - it just smelt so much like all those little boutiques did back then - heady, achingly heady, to be honest. I detected a little suede in the background and some sandalwood (soap?) but nothing much else. The further down it went the more I began to smell patchouli and sandalwood (soap?) and nothing else. 10 hours later it is still there - not projecting - but merely sitting on my skin and still the same. I can't say I would pay so much money, even for the cheaper flacon, as for me this perfume went no-where but a quick trip down memory lane which was a dead-end street! I think that even if one loved patchouli and sandalwood (soap) there are far better and far cheaper compositions out there. Even for the fleeting moment of wonderfulness I could just dab a little of Al Rehab's Taif on my wrists. I'm just going to add that I did only spray a tiny amount on my wrists so using a larger amount might just have a different effect - although I'm quite thankful that I only sprayed a little and avoided the migraine-effect! I've never, ever, had to resort to scrubbing a perfume off my skin but I came quite close this time - so I dabbed over a little of Fifi Cachenil on top to neutralise the scent as I was getting a little 'annoyed' with it - and do you know that within 30 mins the damn thing had overpowered my little Fifi !!!!!

A really beautiful bottle with a boring content. I have collected arabic perume oils for almost a decade now, and have tryed a lot of different scents and combinations. But what I don't like is posh perfume houses that try to reinvent the wheel. I have smelled a perfume not unlike this one years ago called Mukhallath Madinah by Haramain Perfumes (the loose kind(yellow), not the pre-bottled(white/clear)). in the Haraman case 3 ml. concentrated oil for 5$ that will last you a month (like 30 mls spray). Agonist Onyx pearl cost around 200$ for the ordinairy spray. SAY WHAAT!! well that been said.. What do I get out of this fragrance? A floral oud and leather type fragrance that i well adjusted and is balanced. Say what about the musk? where is it? But amber is present, no doubt. An ok fragrance, with nice quality ingredients, and that I like. But the price tag is not equaly likeable. Overall Rating: 5/10

This is a light & slightly salty tamed & safe oud with florals and musk. It gives a vibe from mens shaving products but overall it's decent. Its structure is so neutral and boring. It's from those scents that you smell them and in a minute you forget them forever. There are millions of better niche than this. Anyway, all I get is a soft & safe woody oud, very soft and faint leather, flowers and cedar. All notes feel light and mild. A totally forgetable fragrance but with great versatility. Soft projection and sillage, moderate longevity.

Archivist is spot on. The initial blast smells just like men's shaving cream to me. Just. Like. It. Men's shaving cream is great and all, but I expect a little more for these outrageous niche prices than what I can experience by buying a can at Target for 5 bucks. It does evolve eventually to something heavier on the cedar and what basically smells like a dusty, generic men's cologne.

This is truly unpleasant, ugly even. Discordant. Sweet, powdery, woody, amber-y. Gave me a headache. It is too close to fabric softener dryer sheets.

While the notes are "nice," there's nothing going on here that's unique or different. To me, the heliotrope and the suede are the most noticeable, with a little extra depth coming from the amber. The sandalwood is clear, but I really can't pick up the oud at all. As with others from the agonist line, the blend is appealing and balanced and it's somewhat of a clean scent (almost watery) with a little sweetness coming through, but projection is a big issue here. I've struggled with Agonist's longevity in the past (under 2 hours), but here the real problem seems to be the sillage -- I can only smell it with my nose literally pushed up against my skin, and even then it's very weak. Ordinarily, this would appeal to me as I'm somewhat adverse to scents that "inflict themselves" upon others, but this one is just too close to be effective. So, bottom line: it's nice, uninspired and safe, but far too tame. Agonist would benefit from stepping up the volume on this one -- not necessarily to eleven, but at least to a two or a three. Disappointing from an ordinarily great house.

I agree with some of the previous reviews, there is definitely discordance in this fragrance. When I first apply it there is something almost offensive. Heavily powdered musk with a sharp unpleasant undertone, that I suspect is the cedar. It does settle down to a more creamy musk, I suspect helped along by the heliotrope (which is a note I generally love in fragrances). After an hour or so I am left with something that smells powdery and floral, yet there is a heaviness provided by the patchouli and oud that, in this instance, does not work. However, whenever I wear this, I always get compliments, always. Even late in the day, 7 hours after application, I get compliments. So I'm at a bit of a loss with this perfume.

I would classify the "new" Onyx Pearl as probalby the most masculine fragrance in the Agonist range. After the brand's claim of having reorchastrated all of their fragrances with 100% natural ingredients and relaunching the whole line in cheaper, regular 100ml bottles, you know what Onyx Pearl smells like? Synthetic woods around a leathery-fougere-y structure. Very fougere-y. Despite the absence of most of the typical fougere elements, it still smells like a classic fougere. It has a STRONG deja-vu vibe. The fragrance turns, during the drydown, intensely woody and oudy in a bad, uninspired way. Not much interesting. Pass. Rating: 4.5-5/10

When it comes to oud, Agonist doesn't succeed imho. Both here and in Dark Saphir, the oud seems odd and badly blended with the other ingredients. Here what we get is a loud mix of oud and musk that smells like the cheap deodorants for men that you find in a supermarket a few hours after application. I am sorry, for in the first minutes there seems to be hope for a more interesting take, smelling of warm fruity lollipop, but musk and oud take over pretty soon to dryodown into an animalic acrid odour that I wouldn't like to smell around really.

I went back and forth several times for this one. I disagree that it leans masculine, I feel it is totally unisex. A warm and soft oud in the opening, which lingers into cedar/heliotrope in heart notes running on liquid amber. Luckily for me, no pachouli is noticed. I find Onyx Pearl as "nice", good enough if given as a present and "not interesting" enough for an investment. I got an offer to buy BIB for 1/3 of the price, but still convinced myself not to buy it. I prefer Histories de Parfums This is not a blue bottle 1.1 instead.

Based on the notes, I had expected something deep and sensual, but it turned out to be surprisingly crisp and floral. The oud scent fainted quickly and doesn't seem to blend well with other notes. Mediocre longevity and unfortunately doesn't develop much on my skin. So I would call this an okay unisex scent at most.

Super powdery musky opening, a fabric softner type vibe with a heavy touch of woods as it dries down the oud becomes apparent. I think the 'floral notes' are a mixture but there's definitely rose in there, it smells high quality but again not my scene at all. It's okay but I wouldn't wear perfume like this.

finally this was added to the encyclopaedia!! I cant wait to sample it. apparently available at Harrods 2nd floor with Roja Dove. :)

i tried this today and it is floral velvety is good!!! i wouldn't buy it but i am so happy i got to check it out
