Blu Oud

Blu Oud by Ahmed Al-Maghribi is a bit of an enigma. It is a strong, spicy, leathery, fruity, fresh, musky oud. Yep, all of it. The overall impression is sweeter than you expect and it opens with a crack of slightly smoky leather. I get some pink pepper and some aromatics in the background to freshen it up, although it is fair to say the bergamot in the top does most of the heavy lifting here. The oud in the base drifts in slowly, filtered through some musk and a heavy, cloying whack of a fixative (Ambroxan? something that smells synthetic) so it isn't heavy or animalic in the slightest but cleverly retains just enough of its sourness to peek through the clouds if you know where to look for it. For the first twenty minutes or so this leans too much into the Ambroxan-type fixative that characterises many of the local "fresh" ouds here. I call it "Mall Oud" because there are stalls every few yards in every shopping mall in Dubai all offering untold hundreds of different varieties of oud fragrances in every shape and size bottle imaginable. They all smell very strongly of the exact same synthetic note we see here. It always makes me laugh to see the hustlers waving tester strips under the noses of all the tourists who have all heard of the wonderful oud perfumes in the UAE and want to try some. Tourists associate the smell of this Ambroxan-type fixative with "oud" here. I always wonder what they would think if they actually tried something with a real oud accord in, like Black Oud by Taif Al Emarat: a much harder sell for them, but not for me. Blu Oud does improve a lot after twenty minutes or so when the Ambroxan-type note starts to recede as the synthetic oud accord warms up and comes out to play. Along with it the Cuir Infrarouge-lite kind of leather heats and softens and it all starts to make more sense. I do like this a lot, but I do still think there is too much synthetic fixative in this for me to truly love it, as it does still give me "mall oud" vibes. It is nonetheless very pleasant, very unisex and way more wearable than the notes may initially suggest. It is impressive that such a heavy fragrance with leather, musk, oud and some incense in still manages to play in the freshie domain, which in itself makes this a very interesting fragrance that is definitely worth checking out. Three Word Summary: A Heavy Freshie Layering Suggestion: Some Cambodian oud oil over the top of this to accentuate the oud vibe and cut through the synthetic edge quicker. Blu Oud (Extrait) opens on bergamot and cypress, with a slightly herbal, faintly fruity freshness. There's also a floral facet, which reminds me more of professionally cleaned laundry: crisp and slightly metallic. As the opening burns off, the leather reveals itself as the real spine of the scent. It's dry, slightly incensy, and it carries the composition long after the fresher top has faded. Personally, I don't get much actual oud here, especially since I have a few real oud gems for comparison. To me, this reads more as a smoky leather with some animalic edge, which is probably why some people interpret it as oud. What makes it interesting is the contrast: that darker, leathery core is set against the first half of the fragrance, which leans into a familiar clean aquatic blue accord. Even so, this is not the usual kind of blue fragrance you find at Sephora. Performance is excellent. Longevity is incredible, and projection is strong enough to fill the house with just a few sprays. One morning, I put no more than eight sprays on my shirt before heading out, and my girlfriend, from the other end of the house, told me to come closer so she could enjoy it properly. Of all the reviews I've read, I agree most with kaycee1: this is very close to Hawas Fire. From the same general family, I also know Ra'ed Oud and Khair, and when I sprayed all of them on test strips, it was genuinely difficult to tell them apart blind at first. Clickfish is also right: Ahmed really does have many nearly identical fragrances. That surprises me, because they're not presented as though they are meant to overlap so closely, yet once you read enough reviews, you can already tell they will be almost identical. There's also something here that Ombré Leather and its clones share. In the end, Blu Oud comes across far less as an oud-centered fragrance than as a fresh blue-leather composition with an oudy accent in the background. It belongs to that category of oud for people who don't really like oud. Everything here is exceptionally well done and easy to wear. I also think it works as an Arab fragrance for people who are not usually into Arab fragrances. It's a daily-friendly, domesticated take on the genre, greener and a little deeper than the similar fragrances I mentioned, with quality to match. It even smells more expensive than it is (and it's really cheap), with a distinctly glossy feel. Firstly this is a review for Blu Oud. Ahmed Al Maghribi has another scent that is just called "Blue". Comes in an Extrait and an EDP I believe. As for Blu Oud, this is a really versatile fragrance that carries a great quality in general, and for the price the quality is almost absurd. The blending is superb. As far as scent profile, the leather really is very reminiscent of Tuscan Leather. There really isn't much incense in here but there is a very slight smoke in it. This balances well against a fruity note (I don't think its Bergamot like listed but I could be wrong). This fruity note is really what gives the scent its versatility because this note is slightly playful. Its not a super serious, sensual fruity note, and its not very bright, but its bright enough and really friendly. Combined with the other notes of a warming oud, the whole scent just comes together really well. Its a nice fresh, but warm, clean scent with a good base. I rarely blind buy (and I rarely like anything) but this was a super pleasant purchase. If you are good with leather, I would say this really is blind buy friendly. Just aside, most people who review this house tend to like Oud Ignite ahead of Blu Oud. I completely disagree. The two share the same quality, but Blu Oud really outshines it, and has way more character with its leather. It has gotten slightly better with Maceration (~4 months), but I don't think people should expect a huge change if they let it sit.

Absolutely phenomenal creation by AAM. I just got my bottle and right from the first spray it smells amazing. You don't need to mature this one, I have a feeling they macerated this before bottling. This is a huge upgrade over Cinder which they released a free years earlier. I have never gotten the original under my nose, but I have tried this, Cinder, and Hawas Fire, as well as a few other lesser known interpretations. This is fresh, yet earthy, with some beautiful animalistic undertones. It's well balanced, so those animalistic bites never become overbearing. This would make a great signature scent. Performance is great, 8+ hours on skin, days on clothing. Huge room filling projection. I spray this on earlier, went out to the garage to work on my car and when I came back in 2 hours later, I could smell it strongly in the room I sprayed it. Unfortunately I go noseblind to this one, but it's presence is noticed by everyone else. Four season safe, although I may stray away from it on the hottest days where something lighter is needed for some respite from the heat. Definitely a more masculine scent to my nose, the smoke, oud, and leather are brilliantly balanced against that fresh opening citrus and florals. Mind blowing composition. I can't imagine Imperial Valley or Reef 33 smell this good. AAM has been creating some absolutely incredible stuff. 96/100

like every aam i own - and it's a few - what you get straight out of the box is only a clue as to what's to come. all nearly useless until three months on the shelf and they get their shit together. this one isn't too complicated and all the better for it, it's the kind of frag that's built to be a daily driver or the dumb reach when you can't make up your mind and if there was a list for 'one frag for every situation' this would be on it. toys with the idea of being a blue frag but the elemi and transition to smoky leather give it a boundary that keeps it from going too far in. there's a floral sweetness than gets dangerously close to being a little too much but it rides the line of 'fine' before then timbers settle in and keep it dry and a little generic. it's a very good frag, not a great one, and given the swiss-army versatility it has it'll never be a dud in the collection, whether or not you buy a second bottle is personal preference.

First I want to start with WOW WHAT A FRAGRANCE 😍 This is such a beautiful smell, it has a lovely cypress opening like Jo Malone Cypress and Grape Vine (JMCGV). Super fresh and inviting, mass appealing. Then you get this depth from the leather and the light oud underneath.. it’s not a stinky oud it’s a very nice oud. This honestly gives me like a middle eastern Dior Savauge / JMCGV. I could smell this after a full 12 hours at work. I got complimented on how nice I smelt and a female colleague was walking behind me about 7 hours later and said my scent trail was so nice.. well her words were “the wind that follows you when you walk smells nice” hahaha Overall im going to rate this a 10/10 and I will 100% be reaching for this more often. If you want to stand out and have the savauge effect but be different to her ex this is this key. This is better than savauge IMO

Im very familiar with the smell, it's giving a Dylan vibes in the opening (typical fresh blue fragrance) and Arab oud vibes in the dry down, the leather and oud itself really level up the scent, I also got a little nose blind and can't smell it properly when I wear it on myself (maybe because I've smell this kind of scent too much). One day i saw my dad wear the perfume, and it smells so good! The oud are dominant, and it's a light oud, very versatile to use at day or night, smells light and premium, it is giving an Arab vibes which in Asia are identicly to wear at a religious event, and I dont think so, it's pretty good for daily. And also, i find this weird but it smells great on skin + dry down + get splash by water (i discover this at rain). I can't comment much about the performance since I got a nose blind, hahaha.

In my personal opinion this fragrance in a way reminds me of Paco rabanne invictus edt in the opening. It's definitely a strong freshy blue fragrance that will make you noticed by everyone in the room. Managed to get for £30 which is a steal. The dry down is pleasant Update 1: So I've had this fragrance for a week now and so far I've got no issues with it. It's a helluva fresh fragrance. I don't know if the projection goes quick or I'm going noseblind because this is nuclear stuff. Imma macerate it for a bit and see if I can improve the performance. Update 2: So after maceration I can say hands down my favourite blue fragrance. Performance became better as it projects further and lasts a lot longer. Had to get another bottle because imma be using this quite a lot. Can't beat how cheap it is too

The drydown settles into a rich, captivating, and long-lasting foundation. It's not a typical "blue" or aquatic fragrance; instead, it has a deeper, oriental, and woody character. Fully synthetic, it boasts strong projection for 4-5 hours, effectively filling a room. The fragrance offers exceptional quality and performance at a competitive price, making it ideal for cooler weather and various occasions.

The contrasting fresh, somewhat floral and darker 'Middle Eastern notes' (leather, oud etc.) work really well together and it overall feels very well-blended and luxurious, nobody would expect this to be a 30 Euros fragrances when they smell it in the air. It's not a very common smell where I live, but the reactions have been very good so far from the people around me - kinda gives you the vibe of a freshly shaven gentleman in his 30's or 40's in an expensive leather jacket who had a shower half an hour before and is on his way to an upscale casino or something. Performance on point as well, but will probably improve over time. 9.25/10

I'm now officially a fan of Ahmed Al Maghribi because of Blu Oud! It opens up with bright & sweet citrus then dries into woody, leathery, earthy vibe. It's so damn good, very easy to wear and I don't find the oud to be skanky or animalic. More like a more mature version of Dylan Blue or Zara Navy Black but nothing's scary about this perfume. It's a more unique take on blue freshy perfume. If you like blue leathery scent, get this one. Solid 9/10 blind buy worthy! PS: There are 2 versions of Blu Oud : Eau de Parfum & Extrait de Parfum (mine is the EdP version). Does anyone know the differences between these two?

This is a Niche quality scent DNA done with designer tear materials. It blue in the sharp way that vintage Cool Water is. Clean and Oceanic with a dark blue aftershave freshness with a designer leather jacket texture. It's modern and classic at the same time. There is an Industrial note that comes off metallic and clean. the opening lasts for two hours and then it becomes darker and woodier. The Dark Blue becomes turquoise that fades into the background and you can smell the faintness of the smokey/ fiery geranium. It dries down into a clean oud, patchouli masculine powerhouse that lasts for days. Enjoy Boys!

It took fragrantica WAY too long to add this frag. It opens fresh with bergamot, herbal and floral notes and drys down to the most immaculate and elegant leather base with a hint of oud. Work safe, date night ready, signature scent this definitely can and will be. Fantastic longevity and sillage, and this just smells so incredibly well blended. If this were to be sold in department stores for hundreds of dollars a bottle, people would not bat an eyelid because the quality is just that impressive. Pressurised atomiser, frosted glass bottle, and great presentation at a very cheap price. An absolute must have.

Incredible. Fresh, crisp, sweet slightly metallic opening reminiscent of a gummy bear with those sour sprinkles nothing too synthetic. 5 minutes in the middle eastern incense and leather come thru, if you’ve smelled imperial valley and blue Laverne it’s that DNA through out, but fresher. I have the extrait and this lasts projects crazy. I could hear people behind me talking about how I smell. Ahmad Al Maghrebi knows how to do their leather accords well. This is a banger for Barely 15USD. Packagings seems like it’s worth triple the price. Scent 8.7/10 Longevity 8/10 Projection 8/10 Overall 9/10

Yo, Blu Oud by Ahmed Al Maghribi is lowkey a hidden gem 💎 it starts off all fresh and zesty with bergamot vibes, then boom, it hits you with that clean leather swagger 🧥💨. It’s like if TF Ombré Leather or MC Oud Maracujá went on a chill tropical vacation 🌴. Not super oud-heavy despite the name, which is kinda a flex tbh. Let it sit for a couple weeks and the performance gets wild — lasts longer, projects stronger, and smells even richer 🔥. For the price? Straight up steal. Smells luxe, feels classy, and won’t wreck your wallet 💸. A big W for your collection, no cap.

Seeing several mentions in these reviews of an extrait version, I searched in vain to find a single product listing or even a picture of an extrait bottle. I ordered from the Jomashop listing for eau de parfum and received a bottle of extrait. 🤷 The scent is quite pleasant with powerful projection for roughly 8 hours. It reminds me of a slightly sweeter and longer-lasting version of Armaf The Falcon albeit without the Falcon's opening pineapple note. Both are apparently based on Imperial Valley, so this shouldn't be too surprising.

It does remind me of imperial valley, and it does have a good staying power... It's really long lasting... But i think it's a bit sweeter than imperial valley.. also i honestly don't know how it has oud, it comes off as a sweet fruity leathery scent, not sure if oud can be detected. I am conflicted as to give it a rating of 4 or 5... It's a really good offering, if you like this scent you have gotten yourself the best performer, but the sweetness along with how common this scent has become in the gulf makes me choose 4.

Blu Oud walked into my collection like it already had a reserved parking spot. The oud is so smooth and well behaved that even people who claim they don't like oud might accidentally become fans. The performance clearly missed the memo about leaving early because it sticks around for hours and refuses to clock out. Ahmed Al Maghribi is becoming one of those fragrance houses where blind buying starts to feel less like gambling and more like good judgment.

Honest Review of this fragrance: I must admit this is the closest interpretation of imperial valley by gissah done by Ahmed al maghribi. I've smelt the OG and this is 95% similar. Its crazy strong and lasts ages like the OG with strong projection. Definitely worth buying. I did leave the fragrance to mature and the performance did improve a lot. Definitely will be repurchasing once it runs out

AAM Blu Oud - One of the most under appreciated middle eastern perfumes! Woody bergamot with patchouli is definitely a well blended creation which is both unique and very versatile, could be worn in any occasion yet I would strongly suggest to be easy on sprays if worn to office/indoor settings, because it is a “beast mode” fragrance. Smell: 8/10 Performance: 9/10 Price: 10/10 Quality: 9/10
