Gardenia

In my opinion, Gardenia by Ahmed Al Maghribibfeels is more unisex, leaning slightly masculine, rather than a typical feminine scent. It’s a leathery–fruity–floral composition, smooth and luxurious, with an intriguing balance between sweetness, depth, and elegance. I’m not sure if it’s a direct dupe of any specific fragrance, but typologically it sits in the same family as Oud Maracuja, Khadlaj Oud Noir, or Wow Oud—bold, sensual, and unmistakably Middle Eastern in character. The quality, projection, and longevity are absolutely fantastic, easily rivaling far more expensive niche perfumes. And when you factor in the price, this becomes a truly outstanding deal—a perfect example of affordable luxury done right. Ahmed Almaghrebi is presenting really balanced and affordable options for perfume enthusiasts. I was a bit apprehensive while buying it considering it might be considered a female fragrance and I generally tend to go for proper male fragrances. However, it was such a pleasant surprise to experience a scent that is not a typical masculine perfume. Most people are reviewing it as more Leathery however I found it to be Patchouli heavy with freshness. It is very stable and has a nice smooth opening. Enjoying it and will recommend other men and women to try it as well.

Very interesting (w)oudy-fruitchouli-leather-chypre. Unisex, cold-season and very different from everything I own. Difficult and strong, where will I wear this was the first question that popped into my mind, but it is worth sampling for the sake of novelty

A perfume that surprised me the most this year ... super long lasting, ultra niche and high-quality transitioning juice. The dry down is so beautiful and hard to recognize that is the same floral scent. Oud Leather Oakmoss all beautiful work together

Ahmed al Maghribi did themselves a great disservice by marketing this fragrance solely towards women- it should have been under shelved as 'unisex', because this is very appropriate for gentlemen as well. What I perceive is light leather, clean patchouli, slightly clinical saffron, clean aoud (not animalic), green oakmoss and white/purple florals... in order of notes prominence. In warmer more humid weather, the floral notes make a more persistent appearance, almost standing head-to-head with patchouli to make the fragrance a little bit more feminine. This is a perfume I struggle to understand, in truth. It is definitely not a crowd pleaser. Oh no, there is something quite niche about this. It is not heavy, not airy, not light, not dark either... I can't quite understand it. I suspect my bottle will be long depleted before I am able to, however what I can tell you is that this is a clean expression of the above mentioned notes - everything in moderation. This fragrance is not to be blind bought if you are not a lover of patchouli, oakmoss and aoud combinations. And that's all I have to say.

Nose Note #916 One of the most dazzling pick up as of recently. This is just something else. Imagine a leather scent sort of in the vein of Irish Leather, but minus the tea and take away the nuttiness from the leather. Now amplify the green accord and add a feminine aquatic floral accord. Now you have this. It's nothing else but "beautiful", literally. Like a classic watercolor painting. I don't know how Ahmed managed to combine so naturally this leather accord with all the florals and green notes. Doesn't smell old school, but it definately has something classic about it. I'm also getting something fruity-oudy in the very core of the scent like in Blu Oud by Ahmed (Imperial Valley dupe), but distantly. The floral accord definately dominates the composition which makes the scent a bit feminine leaning to my nose. I wouldn't call this "long lasting". Definately better than average. I'm just losing the trail of it rather quickly, maybe in 2-2.5 hours. Can work all year round. 7.5/10, I'm not quite connecting with it to the fullest, but this is objectively very beautiful

Wait, No gardenia flower in the notes breakdown? This smells hella gardenia like a real gardenia garden with a leather ottoman in the foreground. Beautiful flower fruity with suede leather to soften everything

I like the smell. Fruity, floral, and a backbone of soft leather. But you don't really need this if you have marj. Marj smells better while being the same dna.

It’s too overpowering for my liking

Me likey! What a pleasant surprise. I would’ve never thought that I would come across a far superior version to Ajmal’s Wisal Layl. While I did enjoy the scent profile to Wisal Layl, the execution was atrocious at best that resulted in a violently discordant, screechy, synthetic and stinky perfume with one of the worst ouds I’ve ever experienced, and I love me some oud. So much so that I tossed it directly into the bin. In fact I was sorely displeased to the maximum with the Ajmal. However, I found Gardenia from Maghribi and wow what a pleasant surprise. Gardenia pulls off perfectly what Wisal Layl wishes it could’ve done. And both scent profiles are strikingly similar. I do understand why this perfume is appropriately named ‘Gardenia’. The opening hour truly does smell of fresh gardenias. But this is short lived because Gardenia soon makes some drastic changes directly into a wonderful oud accord, oak moss, black currant, leather, iris and patchouli with a final dry down of musk, patchouli, oud/vanilla. I’ve never experienced a perfume before that has such a wide berth from overtly feminine head notes only to end on the most masculine base notes imaginable that smells like a perfume designed exclusively for men. This is a very complex perfume that feels wet, juicy and alive. And the slightly animalic and heavy oud is just amazing from opening to very long close. It is remarkable how the perfumer achieved this feat. The changes are so drastic that one would have a hard time believing that this is even the same perfume that they’re wearing. Gardenia is an awesome perfume. The quality is top and at a mammoth and wickedly powerful 44% volume non-denatured alcohol content (that’s nearly 60% fragrance oils!), Gardenia is beastly to say the least. One only needs a tiny spritz and that’s it because at this concentration, it can become overwhelming to others in the vicinity. Surprisingly, longevity on skin is around 12 hours only.

Apologies as this is not a review, but I'm shocked that none of the reviewers below have mentioned the fact that the titular gardenia seems to be MIA. I'm very curious to know what this fragrance as to do with gardenia??
