Amber Wood

Your slumbery stupor wears thin as you find yourself nestled in warm herbal embrace of a monolithic tree. Still dull from what felt like a lifelong slumber, you begin to drink in the sensory feast that pulsates around you - the tree's branches are as thick as bridges and the heartwood is as intricate and massive as a small city. A gentle breeze carries the scent of apples and lavender from some far off branch, or maybe from the earth which must be beneath the thick cloud cover several hundred feet below. Curiosity begins to crawl into your muddled thoughts...you are compelled to climb. You drive upward into the heavens - the higher you climb, the lighter you feel almost as if the the majestic tree is aiding you. Each layer of atmosphere brings new wonder to your journey - as you climb, pieces of the trees bark and sap cling to your body. Over time you become one with the majestic wonder as your skin soaks in the agarwood and cedar essences while the sun, high above the clouds, ignites the prickly aspect of the patchouli that grows in lush waves. You ascend into the heavens coated in the thick essence of the wondrous tree - the air is so thin up here that you can hardly breathe, yet everything is weightless. A freezing wind rocks your delicate perch as you look across the sea of clouds and the continents below. You lose your sense of self in the awe of what lies beneath - no longer restrained by worldly fears or frivolity...you simply are. The cheerful chirps of nearby birds rustle you from your slumber. You blink the sun out of your sleepy vision - it was just a dream, yet you still feel light and full of life. A new day begins. 101 - Arborvitae Listening to: London Grammar - Interlude (Live) Notes: So, this was a sort of impulse buy as it isn't readily available in the US (that I can find) and I know of nowhere that allows one to test it. I know Ajmal is a decent brand and I was intrigued by the positive reviews the high end line was receiving. I saw this in an auction and went for it - I am definitely not disappointed! I need to state that this fume consistently lasts 18 to 24 hours on my skin and usually outlasts a shower! The opening is a sweet and tart apple with just a touch of herbal lavender, but this is brief as the heart of prickly wood and patchouli dominates completely after a few minutes. The wood note is quite intense and can be off putting of you can't handle agarwood and patchouli - I have received mixed feedback, but I personally love it so I won't stop wearing it! After a good 12 to 14 hours, the prickly wood note begins to fade and a warm, dry amber begins to shine through. It essentially remains a mix of the woods and a dry amber until it quiets to nothingness. Truly beautiful and magical if you favor these notes!

Update: So, I stand by my last comment on this smelling like Michael Malul Jet Black Reserve, but this fragrance opens up as it dries down, thankfully. The JBR on the other hand kept that rubberiness throughout the life but doesn't add anything to it, so that accord got annoying as time passed. Amber Wood starts to open up the apple in the middle opening and that's when this fragrance gets good for me. The amber in here is different from the one in Amber Povire, but just as effective. The amber in this fragrance isn't as warm, but more of a cool amber in temp and slightly dusty...which gels with that apple note perfectly. On the drydown, I picked up woods, amber, cardamom, and musk lightly wafting about. Last thing I'll mention here, is that this fragrance actually smells better in the air than skin. In the air, I actually pick up this orris in that powderiness that helps the sillage. The projection is good the first 2 hours. Longevity is clocking at 8 hours off skin. Also, keep in mind, I just got this fragrance last week...so it’s maturing. I was skeptical when I first tried it because it smelled like a fragrance I didn't get along with in JBR, but Amber Wood has a bit more going on in complexity and that has made a big difference. I sympathize with those that are having performance issues with this one, because the smell is really dope. This is my 4th Ajmal fragrance from this kind of line (W(ood) and A(mber)) series: this one, Haktora Wood, Amber Povire, and Amber Santal. The only one I'd strongly caution against is Amber Santal...sample all fragrances if you can, but damn sure sample Amber Santal before committing to a full presentation. The smell and performance just hasn't worked for me. Scent: 9 Sillage: 7 Longevity: 8 Price: 7 (I think at $60 this is a great deal) Versatility: 9 Seasons: Fall and Spring are best. Should hold up fine in Winters. Use something else in the dead of Summer. Occasions: Business, date night (not the 1st date though), casual, business casual, semi-formal. Overall: 8

Warm, fizzling (Or effervescent) fresh and just a hint of sweetness layered atop bitter and floral wood. Image: A dark night sky above the border Rub-Al-Khali desert and the western mountains. You and your party pitch your tents and start a a series of fires in the campgrounds situated far away between small and medium sized sand dunes and cliffs. An oasis and with a few tall trees is spotted a two minute jog away. As you pitch your tents, a few of your friends start digging a hole in an area of compacted sand. They lower freshly cut meat and vegetables wrapped in foil placed on a rack into the hole, after having set a fire pit within the hole itself. After tonight's dinner has begun preparations, a rug and tea are brought out and served. You smell some burning wood and spiced fruits. An amber tray is brought and lit as incense. You can smell its freshness, its sweetness, accompanied by subtle notes of stones, flowers, and fragrant woods. You feel happy, appreciative of the beauty of life and what it offers when the amber hits. You go to the oasis and savor every drop of the cool water. Once returned, you notice the aroma makes its way through the windless night, you doze off into a peaceful sleep, your tent overlooking a golden moon. I only have the sample version, 0.7 mL. It does go through quickly and lasts for days. It degrades quickly. On arrival, it lasted for around 2-3 and a quarter days. After spraying again after two weeks, longevity and sillage have decreased significantly. It ha become a skin scent, but has not lost any of its complexity. I quite like this fragrance. It is my first experience with what I believe to be oud and amber.

I discovered this fragrance long time ago on a duty free airport shop. I hesitate then to buy it and latter I regret. Now, after the winter holidays when I travelled abroad I rediscovered this fragrance. The price on the duty free is so high and I don't understand why. Anyway I purchase this one from a safe site and I can't wait to be delivered. Guys, if you want to know how angels are smelling then try this one. It's so smooth, soft, warm and cozy that it's very difficult to describe it using words. You have to smell it so you can understand what I'm talking about. If you know Angel Share from Kilian, then take out the cogniac from the ingredients and you will find a colser fitt to this one. And yes, as many other reviewers said the longevity is medium, about 6 hours, and the projection is moderate, basically it's a skin scent. But I understand the producer, if you want to produce such a nice and high quality niche smell, you must cutt from the performances. You can feel the high quality ingredience in this one, nothing hars or synthetic. I know why this one and Angel Share and Naxos from Xerjoff are not monstrous performance fragrances. If you want something powerfull then go to cheap synthetic perfumes such as Ameer al Oud or Badee Al Oud Amethist, where you cand find extremelly powerful scents, but not for everybody. Otherwise, for me, this is one of the most gorgeous smelling fragrance that you can smell, and buy, amongst Angel Share, Naxos, Layton, Atomic Rose, and Creed Aventus Absolute, pure divine.

Ajmal Amber Wood, while released by the UAE-based house in 2014, seems to be getting a lot of buzz currently, and for that reason, I picked up a decant. It's immediately pleasing, a cold-weather-leaning mix of amber, woods, patchouli, and iris, with subtle hints of apple and lavender fading quickly into the main blend. Amber Wood reminds me immediately of Mugler A*Men Pure Malt, but just a bit more powdery and sharp via the inclusion of iris, but the amber and wood with patchouli in Amber Wood more or less recreate the base of coffee and patchouli mixed with the booze in Pure Malt. Performance is great, well above average in terms of both projection and longevity, especially the former, since it seems to project well off of skin for 4+ hours. Retail pricing is higher, I imagine, but the best pricing I see for this is $140 on Finescents' eBay store and $185 on MaxAroma for a standard 100ml bottle. Overall, this is a nice perfume, one that I like a lot, but Pure Malt is reasonably close and done better, without the sharp, powdery edges that render Amber Wood a bit challenging. 8 out of 10

So, I just sprayed this and noticed a striking similarity to Michael Malul's Jet Black Reserve...VERY similar. The main note that brings these two fragrances together is this rubbery nuance in the opening. That nuance lasts throughout the life of JBR. I'll report back on the drydown of this to see if that's the same here. The projection is promising. I now have two from Ajmal's W(ood) series and two from the A(mber). Haktora Wood started out with good projection and ended up being excellent in longevity after maturing, same thing with Amber Povire. The one that seems like a flop is Amber Santal...no projection or longevity. So, this fragrance has a lot of promise but only time in the dark will tell on the longevity. Out of the 4, the best smelling one is Amber Povire with Haktora Wood being VERY close...maybe tied. Amber Wood needs to sit to see if this blends a bit better. Skip Amber Santal if you're considering that one...just get Hayba from Ajmal, which is much cheaper, smells better, and perform better.

Great scent but a bit synthetic (which I don't mind but I know many people do). This could have been a scent from Escentric Molecules. It does smell like bitter amber, to be more precise in aroma-molecule terms: Ambermax and/or Ambrocenide. I'm pretty sure there's tons in this, which are very strong synthetic amber that doesn't only last but also projects like crazy. It's easily the best of the wood line, and the only one I consider full bottle worthy. The opening and drydown are not much different - the scent just gets lighter and more musky. A good alternative which is not listed on this site yet is Arabian Oud - Signature and I prefer that one too. If you travel to UAE, you'll find many more local brands with almost identical scent. I think the name Amber Wood is a bit misleading because the amber note in this fragrance is not the heavy amber resins which is the common one. I always find that note too feminine and mature. Drop dead gorgeous Oriental ambery beauty. The perfume is the stuff of opulent Arabian Nights dreams. The perfume has a brief opening where one can detect notes of apple, lavender, cardamom and pepper. The heart (also brief) is a woody orris and cedar. The perfume settles fast into a dense powdery base of amber, patchouli and sandalwood. The amber is pronounced, warm, and the perfume as a whole beautifully blended and very sophisticated. This fragrance can be classified as unisex (slight masculine leading) with moderate sillage and projection and very good longevity. Completely underrated and underappreciated, this one is truly worth seeking for amber and Oriental lovers. Enjoy!

I do love this one, as almost all of ajmal perfumes. However the smell is beautifuol, the perfume behaves in a very special way on my skin . After even an hour I do not feel it anymore on myself / againsting f e all MONTALE Perfumes that I feel for the whole day / and I ve been affraid of being quite wick fragrance. Than suddenly a woman stopped me in a store asking me about which fragrance I use as it is such nice. So I please let me know if any of you experienciing the same. I know that most of the time you don t feel the fragrance on you self, but a bit it always there. Exept this one, but that doesn t mean others do not feel it as well. Any other experiencing the same?

I own most of Ajmal's higher-end series and really love most of them. My bottle of Amber Wood is a beautiful woody amber blend with smooth spiciness and a smidge of powdery orris. It isn't terribly evocative, but it is very lovely. The only downside is that my bottle is a 6/2021 batch--which was not a great year for many Ajmal scents, it seems. The W Series fragrances I have from earlier years are POTENT. Ajmal Wood is not a massive performer. The projection is slightly less than moderate and the longevity is so so. On the bright side, unlike the beast mode Ajmal scents I have, the Amber Wood batch I have is wearable to the office.

#1449 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is exactly the same scent as a Flavia scent that came out last year called "Amber Elixir", which isn't that widely available yet. I got this as a decant, and I love it. Good quality. But I have so many scents in this category, including Ajmal's own "Evoke Gold" and "Cashmere Wood", so this really doesn't give me anything new. But if you don't have a woody amber and orris, or woody amber and iris, and you don't want to drop the cash for Amouage "Interlude Black Iris", this is not a bad call. Good quality, versatile, completely inoffensive.

I have a special relationship with this perfume. First bought it about 10 years ago, then again 5 years later, and it still sits on my shelf. I’ll wear it for a week straight in the fall before switching to something else. I often layer it with Escentric Molecules 020, it elevates the woody amber facets, which makes it an incredible combination for me. The scent is rich with amber and spices yet remains discreet. You notice it without knowing exactly where it comes from that I would qualify of, mysterious but powerful. Ideal for evenings out, dinners, or a date.

The perfect amount of sweetness, creaminess, woodiness and a nice full bodied ambery core. You can overspray it if you want and it never gets annoying. It' just so good. I wish it had better performance though. It's more for close encounters I think, because it lasts a good 10 hours, but projection is really soft after one hour. My bottle is a 01/2022 batch btw. It's an EDP but is not that oily like many other arabic fragrances from my collection. The perfume concentration is low which is sad. Amber Wood with better performance would be a 10/10.

There is something about this fragrance that I really love. The notes mix in a way that it creates one of the most enjoyable luxury woody Amber scents I’ve smelled, I know the sillage is not great but it is felt, and on clothes it lingers for days on end. It feels mature but it does not feel old school, it’s like a very well pereserved woody cabin smell, dark but fresh, aromatic, smooth. I love it even if it’s not a mass appealing scent, it’s not a cheap smell, it’s beautiful, earthy, ámbar, woody.

Two years ago when I got it, I wrote a comment about how it has moderate/average performance. Now I have to take it back. Yesterday I tried 3 sprays and I was choking for 30 minutes then after 2 hours, everyone in the meeting room commented how strong this perfume was. 12 hours later, changed my clothes but still getting constant wafts of this perfume. It is gorgeous but, believe me you don’t want to wear that in a warm climate or any closed room. It turned to a silage monster in 2 years.

I love this perfume- alone and blended. I've actually come up with a "signature" scent of three of my favorites which I've blended in a decanter. Marc-Antoine Barrior's "Ganymede", Botega Veneta's Parco Palladiano "Pera." and "Amber Wood." Sounds like a mess but honestly, a few quick spritzes and I get compliments all day long when I wear this blend. Its my perfect chemistry perfume for my body and very rich and elegant but also light and fun.

Its my favourite fragnance. As u said ,its nothing new , but a perfect balance from a scent, sillage , longetivity and luxurious base note that lasts on my shirts collar even after washing them .... an european fragnance in this quality range would cost twice .... and the smell is really quality , non synthetic . Be aware of overspraying , with me 2 sprays are best , not wearable in hot sunny days as it is a night fragnance.

One word to describe Amber Wood: sexy. This one may not be a niche fragrance in terms of ingredients, but it is in terms of uniqueness. Its not daring, its not very complex, but as soon as you spray it, you know that this is one of a kind. The amber is gorgeous and addictive. Don't sleep on this one. Try it at least. The performance could be better on my skin, but the smell makes me forgive any flaw. Love this one.

7/2021 batch -- smells amazing. I'm reading a lot that this has lost potency, I would tend to agree with that based on my wearing's over the last week or so. It reminds me of Tom Ford Oud Wood. Would I recommend it, yes, if you can find a good deal online. The smell alone is worth it, just don't expect it to perform like an EDP should.

The opening reminded me a lot of Rasasi Darej (V Valentino clone) mixed with Prada L’Homme I have both and I get the same when I layer them. I prefer this one over the rest of this series, as it doesn’t have the syrupy sweet vibe you get from many of this W line. However, the performance is average for new formulation.

Starts off with a quick spritz of fruity spicy woods.Then more woods with more spice and pepper. The dry down is a well placed powerdy amber sweet accord. Unisex for sure. Nothing new but gorgeous and expertly done. scent 9, longevity 6hrs. sillage 2 feet..Love it.

Remember folks, not everything has to choke others and last 12 hours plus. Sometimes smelling devine for an intimate three-hour date is all you need. :) This is definitely sexy and classy. Very happy. Hopefully I get better results by the time it gets cold again.

This smells like walking into an old library in the best way. It smells classy, like a professor of history at an elite university would be wearing this. It's woody but not too heavy. It is unisex but it leans male. I absolutely love it.

I've never disappointed with Ajmal. I bought this "Amber Wood" at the Ajmal shop in Deira. If you love woody base, You will love it for sure. I often wear it a bit on my wrist when I go to sleep.

This is my go-to scent for cooler weather! It's warm, spicy, and just a little bit sweet. The amber note is really prominent, but it's not overpowering. I get compliments on it all the time.

Beautiful scent after 5 mins....... Where did it go? This is my first Ajmal I hope all their frags aren’t like this. I thought they were a semi-luxury brand.

Perfect work of art for layering, totally addictive and soothing. Blind buy as a layering agent and also very well made as a stand alone fragrance.

Great scent but very weak even with heavy spraying. This is a copy of Boadicea Imperial IMHO or Boadicea Angelic which is way overpriced.

One of the best Ajmal Perfumes creation , i recommended specially for the cold weather countries.

For your information this came out 2014 and Layton 2016.... Arabian Oud signature 2017...

This is one of the best perfumes anyone can buy. It’s a must have.

smells like mancera black prestigium without oud and citrus

This is a very pleasant sweet ambery scent slightly spicy for fall/winter, day and night. This is not a new smell for me. It reminds me various scents. Just to name two of them. Adnan B. Ambre Noir Boucheron Ambre D'Alexandrie It has similarities from both of them. You can feel the quality, nothing synthetic here but I prefer the Hatkora Wood which has great versatility. The sweet amber with here feels gourmand. It also has a vanillish character. Vanilla is not listed but I can feel it clearly. Quite simple scent but very pleasant. The main difference between Amber Wood and Adnan/Boucheron is the noticeable cardamom and lavender which makes it slightly different from them but still is a sweet unisex scent, almost a gourmand. If it was less sweet it would be a love for me. But now I just like it which means that it doesn't worth a fb for the moment.. Performance is good. Long lasting with heavy sillage and moderate projection.

A like not a love, unfortunately. Nothing wrong with this scent, it’s pleasant and lasts very long, but smell is after all so subjective and I find the smell to be a nice “story” but just not my thing. I definitely prefer the one (edt or edp) for an amber based fragrance. The woods are really more apparent to my nose than the amber, and almost have a slight campfire vibe to them, like someone just stuck his lighter in the pile of wood in front of me. The amber IMO is more of a supporting role, to soften and sweeten it a bit. Not too sweet though, and dry, maybe even a tiny bit powdery. The aromatic ingredients really lift it too. It’s like the perfect texture for me, just not the best smell. Shame. Very well done. Edit: yeah, just not enough amber in here, leaves it kinda flat

Tried Ajmal Amber Wood recently and it’s honestly a really smooth scent. Starts off a bit spicy and fresh, then settles into this warm woody-amber vibe that feels quite classy. Not too loud but still noticeable, which I like. Lasts pretty well on me too. It’s not super unique if you’ve tried a lot of woody ambers, but still a very solid, easy-to-wear fragrance.

Idea of Sauvage edt and parfum mixed, renditioned in a different way with natural lavender etc, hefty dose of ambroxan in the base. This wasn't my cup of tea but it was pretty nice, didn't move me enought to call it a love, its a like. I wore it at the summer it wasn't nauseating or something i think this is 4 seasons besides extreme heat.

However, I have one complaint: its longevity is worse than I would expect for that price. The smell is nice while it lasts, but I would like it to last longer. The projection drops quickly for me. Despite this, I still love wearing it because of that unique, sexy scent. It's a real shame it doesn't last all day.

Beautiful frag! Took it just to test, but really liked. In general, it resembles wet foliage in dark woods. It’s close to Maahir Black Edition, but more wet and deep. Spicy, yet not dry or stuffy. A good masculine frag for mature persons, on my choice.

A good one but stays on skin level... and I mean literally nose against my skin. A bit of a shame as my other Ajmals project well and last long, but sometimes there’s also a use for this kind as well. Buy PDM Layton instead for this profile.

I've tried it at a DXB store and personally I like it. It's woody and floral. I've tried it briefly but what I can tell it doesn't last long. Or it does last long and I haven't really given it the chance

Fantastic juice. Fades after 10 minutes. Disappointing. Going to give it a few good sprays and park it for a few months before I review it and rate it.

Paid retail for this one at a middle eastern duty free. Beast mode, last all day and then some. Ambery, smoky, oudy. Night and cold season only.

My signature winter scent right now. Absolutely lovely, refined opening... vaguely sweet, amber-y/woody goodness on the dry down. Performance is really nice or really meh depending on what you're looking for. As a guy in a committed relationship, it's perfect. It lasts quite a while on skin (a solid 8+ hours on me) and literally days on clothes. Days. That said, it doesn't project aggressively or have much of any sillage. It's really a scent for you and the people who get intimately close to you, and I love that. My girlfriend said she could even smell it on the jean jacket she wore to our date days later... and it wasn't sprayed on that jacket at all. This stuff is a cheat code for "she'll think about you every time she catches a whiff" Scent: 9.5/10 Performance: 4 or 8/10 depending on taste. Edit: This has recently been smelling quite synthetic and unappealing to my nose where it originally didn't. It's certainly not the scent that captivated me when I first smelled it at a store. Not sure if my batch went bad on me from travel/bad storage... or if recently buying PDM Layton, a perfume this is often compared to, my nose has come to realize how inferior this is to that. I really want to believe it's the former, because I really did like this a lot at first.

Opens somewhat aromatic, like a generic lavender open. The rest of the composition is a linear Iso-e-super & Ambroxan concoction. In case you're wondering what that smells like, it smells like a woody ambery like scent. Hey that's in the title! So now I understand why this thing got as much hype as it did! Around the time that this was released those single molecule perfumes were all the rage. This fragrance strikes me as one of those; not a single molecule, but more like a combination of two or three single molecules. I would use this for layering, but not wear the fragrance by itself. Projection is very weak, you'd have to be intimately close to the wearer to smell it. Longevity is actually pretty decent. This fragrance may have been unique when it came out, but nowadays it's pretty bland and boring. Been there done that! If you're going to wear it for layering, don't pay more than 50 bucks for this thing. You can purchase iso-e-super and Ambroxan for 20 to 30 bucks each, then layer them together with your choice of fragrance to give it more oomph. So don't waist your money on this.

So this is pretty good. i have long developed tastes for unusual fragrances, but if i was still into designers and "compliment based purchases" then i would think this is pretty interesting, and it smells very good and non offensive. Performance isnt crazy, from the comments it appears ajmal usually has stronger juice compared to this. But...if you happen to own both Ajmal Dahn Oudh al Shams and Ajmal Amber Wood....do yourself a giant favor and give one spray of the dahn oud al shams over the amber wood. Tell me that doesnt smell incredible with the addition of that funky oud

Smells unique, but unfortunately, the performance is not up to what I expect from Ajmal. Minimal sillage, low projection, and the scent fades after a few hours. It becomes an extremely close skin scent after 50 minutes. Ajmal makes some quality fragrances. If they can improve the performance, this is a fragrance worth having in any collection. Overall 6/10

Latest badges are crap. Really it projects literally 5-10 minutes, then - a skin scent. Got another perfume from Ajmal and it is great in both scent and performance (Eau D’oud). Can’t tell bout older batches but current isn’t worth it.

Amber fragrance with spicy woods. The fragrance opens with a fresh crunchy apple note and right away the woody amber starts kicking in, the amber is the spiced up dry-woody version at the beginning. Among the notes listed, I also detect traces of leafy variety patchouli and lavender. At the dry-down, the amber opens more of the benzoin's creamy facets along with the woody heart holding the scent together. I definitely smell some sweet-spicy oud at the base which IMO is a nice touch. A well-blended juice with great 8+hrs longevity. Unfortunately, the scent is not unique and I think the same would be felt by others who are used to other niche blends.

Well, I blind bought it after being very impressed with Ajmal Amir One (also a blind buy). This one however turned out to be an epic fail, lol. Going by the name, I was expecting a strong and opulent fragance but boy was I wrong. I even gave it two weeks to macerate but it hasn't made any difference. This is such a soft, skin scent. The projection is so poor that the longevity does not even matter. In my opinion, it's definitely not worth the price. I even started to think that I might have got a fake bottle until I watched the YouTube review of this perfume by 'A fragrant glance'. Can't agree more with that review.
