Mukhallat Dahn Al Oudh Moattaq

one of the most beautiful mukhalats by far... a MUKHALAT means a mixture..or a BLEND ... each perfumery has many mukhalats or mixtures or blends specific to their noses ! a mukhalat is a traditional mix of certain notes used since antiquity.. each region has its preferences in choosing what proportions to use in their mukhalats.. but generally speaking all mukhalats contain ROSE.. MUSK.. AMBER.. OUD.. AND MAYBE SAFFRON.. depending on the proportions used and the types of oud or musks or ambers makes all the difference ! i perosnally enjoy wearing mukhlats because they are alot more wearable ..than pure ouds ..which tend to be sometimes offensive to the non oud users.. mukhalats can easily be worn by all people ..from all over the world ..they are just blends of different notes.. beautiful resiny smokey honey like facets.. in small quantities this works as an excellent base for layering ..it adds amazing longevity and silage.. now about this iconic mukhalat i am glad to see it being added to the database i have this stunning bottle which comes in a stunning crystal falcon and an impressive wooden box amazing for displays it also looks exactly like its oud sister which costs a whopping 1000 us $ this costs one third of that and smells amazing .. this bottle easily lasts a decade or a lifetime despite its small quantity ! the name is a bit misleading for for non oud users don't be afraid when reading OUD it has very little oud so the final smell is more of a fine frenchy/mideastern type of oud rose concoction.. it has rose.. musk.. amber.. a bit of non fecal non barnyard.. sweet molasses like oud.. and some tiny amounts of saffron and maybe ambergris or an ambery honeyed accords it blooms of floral ambery goddess its stunning in cool weather it lasts for days on clothes and hair.. it truly envelops one in velvety dreamy 10001 nights goddess as if it transports one to the mysterious nights of arabian nights if you smelled the sahara lie by guerlain the desert one his has some facets from these and layers stunningly with them its round full melow velvety sweet smokey ethereal its sophisticated and fine and has a round fulness a honeyed like almost sweet floral facet its warm yet enticing and uplifting its not a dull accord its a deep mesmerising mukhalat fit for a princess !

This is a reward for the patients. For western noses it will be challenging for, at least, the first couple of hours. After that, it's just pure joy. When the perfume is first sprayed, in addition to the animalic attribute of the oud, there's a strong medicinal aspect for a considerable amount of time and this could be the most offputing nuance for most noses, in my opinion. After this medicinal smell dissapears, it's all about a very dry animalic leather and beautiful roses. Maybe a bit of amber and musk when you smell it very close. I love how the darkness of oud and the brightness of roses is combined in this beauty. Overall it's a very simple composition, however, the exquisite blending and high quality ingredients creates a pretty complex and gorgeous smell. Stunning bottle. It lasts 12+ hours on my skin. Projection and sillage are modest, but to be honest, I don't think you need more than that. Ajmal is becoming my favourite brand when it comes to oud.

On card this smells very similar to Mukhallat Al Shams and Khallab, but on the skin there's really a huge difference. I love them all, but this one has a sort of fizziness to the oud, and then a dark, petrol facet to the (other?) oud, and the rose is more prominent yet more delicate than in the other two. I can definitely perceive different types of oud in here, and they don't resemble the more common Ajmal oud I'm used to. This perfume more restrained, more regal, more refined than the others mentioned above. It's absolutely wonderful, and if you want a rose + real oud which doesn't smell like anything else and doesn't cost an arm and a leg this is possibly your holy grail scent.

Loving this one. It's a quintessential Arabic fragrance. I don't get any funk in this though. It is a stunning mukhallat in my opinion. Sillage and projection are beyond your average designer fragrance. Though it reminds me of Oud Mukhallat (oil) from the same house, this is more refined and regal. I get excellent longevity and the drydown is a lingering smokey woody ambery rose. Just wow! I think many reviews for this gem are on a different page and the votes here are not reflective.

I love rose oud combos and this one is different than most. You can tell the oud is animalic but not in a stinky way. It has an underlying rose sweetness that is not overly sweet that takes over the entire scent. The scent evolves alot and if you can get it under 150$ then it is a steal for the quality. The scent trail it leaves is very majestic and will for sure turn heads. 9.5/10

I have the spray and oil versions of this mukhallat. The oil is nearly exactly the same, just more intense and concentrated (of course). Right off this smells like there are high amounts of natural oils blended in, smells very fresh and alive like blooming roses in the countryside, amongst other thriving plants basking in the sun. Yes there's a bit of an animalic note but blends very well with the old-country sunny summer day visiting the small farmlands of long ago. Very diffuse at the start, wearing down through the flowers as they fade away, moving into a more dry, almost baked clay, tame animalic scent, ending with clean laundry as if it were dried out in the sun. The oil lasts much further ending with mostly clean white musk.

My old review (before I had more exposure to ouds): At first I thought it smelled like The Night (Frederic Malle), which would've been an amazing buy for only a small portion of the price, but after comparison, they turned out quite different. The oud starts out fecal (or REALLY bad breath) and then steps back for the rose to shine while still present. It's not smoky like The Night and doesn't have the warm fuzzy sweetness I love so much about Indian oud. It's good and worth a try but has something sharp and metallic that prevents me from loving it. Now I think it's whatever: The oud is stinky without payback (the dry-down) and the metallic aspect is off-putting.

my cat goes crazy for this perfume. cannot stop sniffing my arm and rubbing her head in it. she does not do this with any other of my numerous perfumes. whatever is in here is not synthetic :-) oh yes, and i like it, too. very good oud-rose mukkhalat. i have some very good oils and this is like those (which i haven't introduced my cat to, yet. ha.)

Rather than being powdery sweet, the rose is crisp and dewy; it presents a refreshing fruity contrast to the oud. Speaking of which: the Cambodian oud in Moattaq lends a medicinal quality to the Assam oud that tempers its more animalic qualities. Very versatile in the right culture. An easy wear, and another enjoyable fragrance from Ajmal.

Lovely mukhallat. Rose is the star of the show surronded by an amber accord and a relatively light oud base. This isn’t a winter oud. It’s probably all season except for hot summer days 35 degrees plus. Amazing value.

The most animalic perfume that I have tried. Fascinatingly animalic in multiple ways too. During the opener, there is heavy barnyard funk like uncleaned horse AND a raw musk. I've tried a couple of animalic powerhouses like Oudh Infini, Figment Man and Kouros and they generally haven't phased me. However, the musk here gives off its own powdery funk that makes it a little hard to stomach. Fortunately, facets of the musk subside early during its wear, and it becomes sweeter and more alluring. The rose-oud accord is completely enmeshed with musks, so it doesn't smell familiar to anything in the same genre. The smell is brighter, not as deep as oud-rose blends that focus on the oud (this is not a criticism). The scent projects for 5 hours before settling into a skin scent. Overall, this is still a scent that confounds me as I find I still don't have the language to describe this scent. I have to be in a very specific mood to wear this scent, due to its heavy animalic funk. However, the blend is still highly wearable and I has garnered compliments. I'll give this one time to understand.

This test with just one spray: The first 40 minutes. strong toilet cleaner + and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese melted in the sun, from which you can imagine maggots crawling out. (really disgusting smell, especially that chemical smell). 40-65min. Brings to mind a weekend night at a cheap bar and you go to the urinal, the smell of piss and urinal cleaning chemicals, with a hint of mild Parmigiano-Reggiano in the background. 1h5min-1h45min. If it were summer now, the mosquitoes would leave you alone, because the smell is the same as strong mosquito repellent. 1h 45min- 2h, now the smell is clearly changing to something, the smell is some exotic pepper or peppery spice mix. Now for the first time it smells good. 2h- 7h, Now there is a clear rose, a bit like a rose opening from a bud but the rose does not open and the scent remains the same (I kept waiting for the rose to open but it did not happen). So a very mild but good rose. 7h+ - until I fell asleep, the scent changed again and now it was some sweet unidentified fruit, this was already a skin scent. But I only experienced this with one spray. I definitely need to try again and with more sprays. But the first 2 hours were horrible, if you took the bus, you would have half the bus to yourself because people would try to get away from you.

It is a timeless classic. I am writing this for 60ml sprayable version. Feels both oriental and French to me. On one hand it is a typical mukhallat with oud, rose, saffron; on the other hand it feels like a classic French perfume almost like a chypre. Meditative, luxurious and classy at the same time. I would be really curious to test how it could smell like with some oakmoss and civet in it. In my opinion, Mdom is the most approachable Ajmal that contains real oud.(I didnt try Amir One yet). In short, one of the best examples of how aged Indian oud could be used as a staple ingredient in a western style composition.

Hot damn! This one here, is animatic like nothing else I've smelled before. My sample had a very fresh green rose wafting from it already, but I wasn't expecting this feral animal to come out :) It's not skanky, just very powerful, I wouldn't say fecal or barnyard, I would just describe it as feral. Like an animal who is staring at you, oozing in pheromones, ready to pounce! This is an animalic I can get down with, definitely try before you buy though. In the opening it smells like your sweat when you ate indian spices mixed with bad breath, after a short time, on top of this you can smell a soft sour rose and sour oud, just a general sour smell with light florals and indian spices, near the drydown musk appears and in the drydown it smells like a weird combination of very clean and dirty musks, like fresh laundry dried in the sun mixed with an animalic musk. Interesting but I can’t understand who would want to smell like this.

Hands down one of the best oud rose combos out there. Considering the price it is in fact exceptional! Real, funky Indian oud on a bed of spices. Slightly harsh rose in the opening that becomes softer and smoother once perfume drys down. Blended extremely well with a touch of powder and ambery notes that add classy and royal feel to it. Not to mention the falcon... one of the most luxurious and glamourious ever! Love it!
