Tonka

Ajmal Tonka is a tonka and oud statement. Very dry and woody. Almost abrasive. This combination will dominate and be present throughout the life of the perfume and may become too overwhelming for some noses. Once the absolute dominators of the fragrance take hold, a warm combintation of spices becomes noticeable, as well as soft fruity and tobacco nuances. Vanilla (or amber) shines to soften the edges and provide a sensual and shy sweetness. After many hours you can smell certain woody nuances apart from the oud. It's a sweet perfume, almost very sweet, and it's strong, with a lot of personality and a lot of body. I think that, like rarely, the olfactory pyramid perfectly describes the perfume. Honestly, the fragrance never becomes completely "pleasant" due to the character of the tonka bean, but after a couple of hours it fortunately becomes more wearable. I think this perfume is not made to be smelled up close, because it can be very invasive, however, in the air it is another story... it smells wonderful and you can tell by its power. I'm not really interested in talking about compliments, but others seem to like Tonka a lot. The sweet and warm aura is extremely pleasant for the people around you. It's a comforting aroma and my loved ones have let me know. What I like most about this perfume is that it lives up to its name in the best way possible. If you want a Middle Eastern interpretation of Tonka, this is it. It feels very natural and complex. The perfume has an interesting evolution with monstrous longevity and projection on my skin. Due to the fragrance profile, I would recommend it for not so hot climates. In winter it's spectacular. Scent: 8/10 Performance: 10/10 Presentation: 10/10 Versatility: 7/10 Price vs quality: 10/10

Ajmal Tonka is a not so well known gem from the purely orient collection, now sadly discontinued. I'm by no means an oud connoisseur, but it starts with natural smelling oud supported by other notes. The oud is silghtly skanky in the opening but it mellows quickly (25-40 min) giving way to the beautiful tonka note. At this stage it's sweet, but not too much, a bit dusty and enveloped in dry woods. The oud/tonka are present throughout the life of the fragrance, supported by oriental musk, powdery notes, nutmeg and ambers. If you are a fan of orientals and oud, but are bored of the same thing beeing done over and over again, than I think checking this out is worth your time and money. No one has done this combination in this way, this is truly different! Best of the line from what I have tried from Purely Orient, sad that it's discontinued. I hope someone picks up this fragrance dna though because it is a hit! A big love from me and blind buy worthy, especially since it can be had on the cheaper end! Side note: the "similar to" suggestions are a joke to me, this does not smell like anything on the market right now, not note wise, not composition, nothing!

Absolute MASTERPIECE!! Wow this stuff is really something. Pure quality natural ingredients and blended to perfection. The tonka bean blasts you in face with its chocolate essence and doesn't give up for hours. The oud seems like a blend of maybe Cambodi and Hindi. It starts with a slight Skankadelic barnyard note but slowly smooths out and mixes so well with the tonka that you would think they are one note. The oud is in no way offensive. The cinnamon and nutmeg enhances it and makes it almost pumpkin spice. This is made for autumn but would do well in winter and spring as well. Very addictive fragrance. I find myself seeking it out. There is definitely a fair amount of cedar in this giving it a great woody backdrop. I'm normally not a fan of cedar but damn it works in this. Altogether you can almost get a coffee like essence. Damn ..... This is juice for the fragrance aficionado. Definitely not for beginners. In no way is it offensive but one must know true quality to REALLY appreciate this stunner. 5 out of 5 stars. Performance is almost nuclear but not quite. The silage is a MONSTER.

Purely Orient Tonka is another beautiful offering from Ajmal. All of the fragrances from this series that I’ve tried (I own six Purely Orients) are strong performers and enticing oriental blends — a pleasing departure from common European perfumery. Tonka opens with a spicy cedar and realistic, slightly skanky oud. As it dries down, the oud is well-behaved and persistent. Tonka bean and cashmeran and a velvety creaminess to the spicy, woodiness that manages to be comforting and a bit sexy at the same time. This is a unisex fragrance for sure– to some it might lean masculine. Not for those who don’t like Middle Eastern perfumery or oud. Long lasting with strong projection.

Tonka opens with a good dose of skanky animalic oud, with an initial smell of manure, which after half an hour stops being so stinky and mixes with an excellent sweet tonka bean. Furthermore, the animalic smell becomes something that reminds me of the smell of esparto grass. It is capable of being noticed in a room by initially spraying a single spray, although I believe that a quantity of between 3 and 4 sprays will leave a good trail wherever you go. Very good, powerful and very long lasting. The presentation is outstanding, one of the best I have seen to date.

For the first hour its a very smooth animalic oud type scent, not like most artificial oud out there and you can tell the cashmere and tonka is lingering in the back. After about 2 hours the oud is in the background and you smell the spices and tonka more and it turns to a spicy, sweet combination that is very well blended and satisfying.

Holy cow! This one is pretty special indeed! Overall, it smells like a creamy latte that's been sprinkled with spices and chocolate. Now, about the oud. I had my own oud phase back in the day when I went for oud dominant frags, the heavy hitters from Montale for instance and later oriental brands. This phase passed, my nostrils are not longing for a lot these days. I still like it as a support note. In this frag, the oud is there, and initially it is a bit barnyard-like BUT does not take long for it to settle down with the rest of the notes. I don't feel it overpowers the composition, but rather, creates a container for the gooey sweet things inside. Nonetheless, one must be able to tolerate oud to some degree to be able to appreciate this fragrance.

There is nothing animalic whatsoever in this fragrance - I have zero clue what some other commenters here are smelling. Nothing even close to the smell of oud, or even the typical guaiac wood substitute. There is a dash of spicy nutmeg and woody, aromatic sage in the beginning, quickly overtaken by an overwhelmingly strong fruity, creamy and nutty tonka bean. The performance is great and the quality is definitely there, and it is a great option for those who enjoy creamy and sweet gourmands, but I was quite disappointed as I was expecting this harsh and animalic opening that everyone's been raving on about. It's really quite sweet and honestly leans feminine. Buyer beware I guess.

Sweet sticky vanilla tonka almost a bit fruity and a small oud touch in the opening, a bit animalistic in a castorium and cambodian oud kind off whey but very faint, in the air its roasted caramel and coconut flesh but not overly sweet, read that some think the tonka is very synthetic but i would say its the other what around, the clash off the tonka and the animalic earthy richness is like beauty and the beast and makes the tonka note much clearer then normaly when used in moderation.

Very similar to Parfums De Marly Kuhuyan.....This is absolutely amazing. Briefly barnyardy in the opening but that soon fades.

Surprised to see many like it. To me its too sweet tutti Fruity type of a smell. Least fav from the line.
