Violet Musc

The love with which I cleave to Violet Musc led me to purchasing the hair mist (plus a back-up) and securing two back-up bottles once I reached the half-way mark to my current bottle. VM is the backbone fragrance in my signature scent combination. It is the most complimented, most asked about, most long lasting, most affecting bottle of perfumed oil and water that I have ever owned. I must warn you that the fragrance contained within a bottle of VM is nothing ground breaking - nothing avant garde, experimental or terribly original in fact. Reader, I want you to understand that I don't believe the perfumer's sentiment was to shock consumers into frenzy, rather, I think Ajmal's perfumers wanted to create a foundation fragrance - something you'd wear bare in loveliness or layer with other fragrances to create mystery and beauty to warrant a follow-up sniff. Sometimes love isn't fireworks, sometimes, it just comes softly - Janette Oke said it well and she might not have been writing about Violet Musc, but that is the true spirit of this fragrance - it wafts, teases and lingers ever so softly, but oh does it stay! Let it age in your dark cupboard and you will understand its charm. And perhaps, just maybe your love for the fragrance will come softly as it did to me. Are there better alternatives, always yes. I owned and loved on a full bottle of Royal Musk by Al Haramain in the past and I will respectfully disagree with the previous reviewer - they are second cousins at best, perhaps some patience in ageing will reveal the violets-rosy nature of this one compared to the beeswax-ylang DNA of the other. But being interchangeable is a cruel promise to unsuspecting readers who may be denied the pleasure of enjoying the distinctiveness of both, as I have. Although I do not expect every nose to fall in love with this fragrance, it is a love beyond affection, for my books. Blind buy with realistic expectations. 5 seconds later: Musk Amiri... Ahmed al Maghribi have managed to take inspiration from this.

Wonderful on its own! Can be worn almost on a universal basis. It is powdery but sexy; cozy and yet highly seductive. It is not a very safe blind buy, to be clear. Expectations should be tempered if you are looking for a truly life-like, dew-covered floral (akin to a 'photorealistic' violet). This is more of a 'clean' violet--a highly stylized violet, in fact. I get a bit of a makeup scent on the dry down.. it is not quite a lipstick note, however, but it does come rather close. Layers quite well with spice-forward, or even citrus-forward, frags. Combining super strong sweet-and-fruity and gourmands may have a less-than-ideal outcome (would be curious to know if this assessment is totally off the mark for others!). I love, love, love it with Cedrat Boise. Violet and leather is such a classic and ugh it is just...heavenly. Recently laid it on top of a (quite heavily sprayed) Gypsy Water base which was super nice. The citrus opening became elongated without being bitter or sharp, resulting in a botanical, earthy, 'sweet skin' scent. Very pleasant!

Beautiful. To my surprise the violet note is prominent. First, a sweet aromatic musc, then the violet comes right out and it's obvious. Goes melding into ylang and the light floral Jasmine. Immediately blends together beautifully in that order.Leaving a beautiful ethereal aural cloud around you. To be clear it's not that vintage, AKA: "old lady scent". Just the opposite. It's quite contemporary and lovely. Though, it can be worn by a man. It definitely leans more towards the feminine. I get constant compliments from my female friends and family members. If I let them spray a little, they absolutely love it. Overall performance is moderate to good. P.S. I sometimes use a little dab of fresh/green violet essential oil on my wrists, neck & belly button. Spray a good dowse over it. Then give myself an all over liberal spray. It really seems to help it linger a bit longer.

Oh my god. I love this. I can see this not being for everyone, but it is evocative of delightful and sensual things. The musk and violet notes are unique to this blend and very potent. The other notes provide subtle nuances that make this fragrance exotic and strangely sexy. I want to overspray it and drown in it. Not for those who hate powdery or violet scents. Feminine leaning, but the musk in it is fairly unisex. Excellent projection and longevity. My batch is from 2019.

this is love at first sniff for me. it smells like the bougiest violet baby powder money can buy. very delicate and light. all the florals work together sooo deliciously. and shit does not come off i sprayed it on my wrists 3 hours ago and after lots of handwashing since then it hasn’t come off. obsessed. definitely more of a winter scent.

I love this! Very similar to Ivory lavender body wash. It's clean, feminine, and powdery. This will fall into the "grandma" category for many, but I don't care. I love this! So cozy and comforting. Similar to BBW Moonlight Path. Lasts all day with two sprays. It is also beautiful layered with Tocca Colette.

Beautiful! Incredibly long lasting. I feel beautiful, clean violets. On my skin mainly smells of violets and musk. I put it on this morning, and for eight hours I can feel it, as do the people around me.

As others have mentioned, the violet disappears very quickly, but the musk base is wonderful, and the other florals remain throughout.

If you have Ellis Brooklyn's Blonde Musk, you don't need this -- they are very similar.

I just ordered this based on the reviews...I cannot wait to wear this. My plan is to layer it with other colognes and use the longevity of "Violet Musc" to boost the violet of the other colognes. 23AUG21 First day with "Violet Musc". This scent stands on it's own with a strong violet opening note that tampers down to a softer violet note walking happily hand-in-hand with a soft powdery note. Violet Musc layers perfectly with "Insurrection - Reyane Traditional" as I suspected!!! The initial loadout of 1 spray of each, Violet first, yields a spicy violet-tinged burst! It eventually mellows out with the "Insurrection" losing it's spicyness and the vanilla coming to the forefront melding with the powdery freshness of the "Violet Musc" with the Violet taking the lead as the most noticeable flavor of the scent-duet. For the next 3 hours, the olfactory flavor remains the same as the projection dies down to an elbow-length scent bubble in the 4th hour. After the 5th hour, all of the spicyness of the "Insurrection" disappears and you are left with a close-hanging aura of violet-vanilla-powder that just says "Cuddle me". It hasn't worn off yet and the wife isn't complaining...so I'll report back in the morning. >=] 04OCT21 Came back to say how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this fragrance. The softness, the smoothness, the lusciousness, how it layers perfectly with any vanilla/amber/tonka fragrance, how effortless the sprayer/atomizer is, the quality of the bottle and the beauty of how it's crafted, how much it is loved by others when smelled...it's literally, just perfect!

In a feverish streak of violet purchases, from Ultraviolet to Après l’Ondée, this scent came up as a reasonably priced and apparently well-loved perfume. The atomizer is intense, no weak drips (looking at you, Ultraviolet!), all power spray. The scent itself — now I did see the second word in the title, and I’m not typically drawn to musks but I’ve been working on my nose — is a superstrong icy powder musk blast with some florals, I guess, somewhere in the background. Violet is not a key player for me with this scent. Power powder. Too strong for confined public transit and similar spaces, I find it works a treat as a “gym scent,” maybe because the uh... non-synthetic musk tempers the XXL artificial note. As always, I am absolutely in awe of the variety of personal experiences with perfumes (the reviews below this are a rollercoaster and I’m just adding my spin)!

Violets shmiolets. Where? Where did they go? This smells identical to Al Haramain's Royal Musk, which I already have. Just take out the cool beeswax note and you have this. I smell more LOTV than I do of violets and that's why I bought this! I don't know why it's so hard to find a good violet fragrance. I have Insolence and that seems to be the only true violet fragrance I've come across besides British bath products. I like this, after all my Royal Musk has the biggest dent in it of ALL my new perfumes, but I was really hoping for more violets than this. This is really 75% musk, LOTV, and a little violets in the background. I’m decluttering this if you’re interested. I just prefer Royal Musk ans I love the beeswax note and I’m not the biggest fan of LOTV but if you are, this one could be for you! US only.

I just received this in the mail and immediately opened the box to sample it on my wrist. I'm wearing it now and I'm feeling it how it develops on my skin. It is a soft smell in its olfactive nature, but I can tell that if I spray this on other parts of my body, this will wear like a beast. So it is a powder bomb, that's for sure; that's a given. It is a violety, powder puff. It smells sophisticated and it does have an arab feel to it. This invites one to take a good, warm shower, and spray this on pulse points right after coming out of the shower. It is comforting, enveloping, and it conjures the image of soft white feathers floating around you.

This has one of the most beautiful violet note I've ever experienced. So smooth and refined but it's 150% feminine. It's all about a dominant musky violet with traces of soap and a discreet but noticeable rose note and a strong lily of the valey note. Amber and ylang ylang are at the background supporting the blend. This vibe is not new for me but it's exceptionally blended. It feels like a submerged musky violet in a pool full of rosy lily-of-the-valey. Great versatility, suitable for fall, spring, summer, mainly daytime but it would feel nice for cool summer evenings.

The very heavy, white porcelain bottle is a pleasure itself. My first spray was heavenly. Everything I’d wanted in a scent was there; the serene iris-like violet, the clean musk with the more exotic ylang and a heavy dose of ISO-E. The rose isn’t featured at all unfortunately. For the first 3 hours I was dedicated to smelling my perfect signature scent. The opening is simply glorious, and I was truly smitten. But, after the 3 hour mark, the scent just becomes a white musk. Gone were my sparkling florals and I was left with a simple (but long lasting) warm white musk.

Just got a sample vial and on my skin I get mostly a nice powdery scent with hints of musc/violet blend. I like so far... Will update longevity later. Update: Yes feminine drydown to me of sweet powder and voilet. A guy can pull this off but I can't. Medium sillage 2 feet. 7hrs longevity and its loud, bold and in your face. 8 of 10 Edit: Sprayed on Last night, woke up this morning sweet powder still kicking around. Nice blend of powder with a hint of violet.

I bought it despite the divided opinions and bad reviews I saw online on other websites. I'm actually very pleased with it. I wanted a light powdery yet sophisticated perfume for the days I don't feel like wearing deep, fresh, or spicy fragrance. It's a cosy scent, not a baby scent since it has some makeup-like facets that make it more mature/glamorous. It reminds me of True Lust from Etat libre d'Orange but without the "Lust".

I'm so heartbroken...this is one of my favorite fragrances from day one of my fragrance journey. And I can't wear it anymore because of the Rose note. After going through C-19 I cannot stand rose in anything. My beloved "Violet Musc" is now unwearable...unsmellable...all I can do is look at the beautiful bottle, hold it in my hand and then put it back on the shelf. This sucks... =[

It's like a magical fairy sprinkled musky violet powder on you. i think it's beautiful, but i know it might not be everyone's cup of tea. if you hate powdery or violet scents, you might want to skip this one, but it manages to feel exotic and strangely sexy.

If you Can get this at a good price it is a well done clean and clear scent. No marine, but nice powder. I find the violet underwhelming and a bit screechy after an hour. But this is still a good choice.

I like this. I really do not like powder at all so at first the powder is a bit much for me. But the scent behind the powder is so pretty that I reach for it every once in a while and enjoy it anyway.

This perfume is lovely! It's definitely powdery and musky like the description says, but there's a beautiful sweetness to it too from the violet. I get compliments on it all the time.

I can only smell musk and violet in it. One of the cleanest smelling perfumes I've ever had. It's not suitable for blind buy I guess.

This isn't a bad fragrance, however, I was left feeling a little disappointed. For some reason when I read about this I pictured a fuller violet scent, possibly with earthy/green facets. What I got was a very average white musk with an artificial parma violet note. The violet doesn't seem to blend especially well with the musk, it just sits in the background. I feel like I could buy a cheap synthetic violet fragrance and mix it with a cheap white musk and get the same outcome. It's really not worth the price. The bottle and box do need a mention since they are quite nice. The bottle is very heavy. The plaque on the box is just a sticker which is a shame. *edit 1 week later* I have smelt this a little bit more and I am growing less and less impressed with it. It smells very much like the Grojsman Accord with added ambroxan and not much else. I really expected more for the price tag. I literally mixed a Grojsman Accord and have sprayed my hands to compare the two, it's very similar.

Expected: powdery clean violets. Got (eventually): clean, almost sterile, cold musk with a hint of purple floral and a funky drydown. This took my nose a month or so to learn. It was a really strong almost metallic musk at first which usually means that one of the popular superambers or musks is used in the base. There was zero violet at first, too, but eventually the musk became lighter and cleaner and the violet became apparent. It's not the powdery sweet violet I'm used to: more of a neutral clean forest violet. Dark green, more aquatic. I was *really* hoping for a scent similar to Guerlain Meteorites but this one is unisex and clean, reminiscent of shaving foam. Drydown on clothing is not pleasant to my nose.

There’s something reminiscent about this scent like sitting at your grandmothers vanity while she applies her loose powder. It’s as if you’re powdering a baby and the entire bottle bursts over your cashmere blouse. It clings to you albeit very delicately. This fragrance is robust. You do get the rose, and you absolutely get the violet there is no question about it.

i get a nondescript sheer floral (i think violet and rose) along with a soft musk. later on i get a hint of something else in the background, not really like any of the notes listed though, but it could be amber. this is a soft, inoffensive scent that fades rather quickly.

I can barely smell this perfume - I will need to ask others if they can smell it and report back but to me it is so incredibly light. I bought this because it was in the “smells similar@ to the ASQ Body Musk which I adore but this is much lighter than their perfume version which itself isn’t the strongest.

I love violets and roses.Especially blended together.But to blend the flowers you should have some sense of proportions as well as sense of quantity. Unfortunately in Violet Musc ingredients are overdosen. All of them are so loud and trying to overpower each other.Too much musk, too much flowers and too much powder.No woody accents.I can`t smell lily of the valley or ylang. The composition is rather flat as the scent doesn`t develop.All this mess gives an unbearable feeling of overloading.An immediate scrubber for me -it`s not easy to wash it off.The only one scent I can compare Violet Musc to is an artificial, steroid detergent filling all the spaces and growing in strenght minute after minute.On the brighter side -but only if you like very potent perfumes -it`s everlasting and silage is wonderful.

Ok... I am on a creamy musk wave right now, and this Ajmal perfume just satisfied my craving so well. It is beautiful! it is definitely a feminine version of Musk because the rose note is nicely noticeable here and it feels feminine, the powdery effect is not too much like a dry baby powder... no it is more like a luxurious SPA type of thing it that makes any sense. But it is just amazing! Creamy and smooth, niche quality for sure! For sure the quality is here. it opens up on the skin very nicely and feels like a heavenly-scented body lotion that just radiates the smell. The violet flower does not feel vintage or old or anything like that, but is just perfectly floral and I believe this is what creates this a bit of powdery feeling.

I’m loving this scent.After trying in the Ajmal shop,my first impression was woww such a very lovely feminine scent.It opened with a little freshness of lily of the valley then the powdery and creamy violet came along and lingered for hours before drying down into a clean sweet musky powdery scent.Sillage and projection were impressive.It kept bursting out every time of my movement.My husband who was sitting next to me in a ramen restaurant said wow he got the nice powdery whiff from me thruout the frying smell from the kitchen.This one wins!

Totally agree with Pobo, I was eager to try out the M series as Sandal Wood (W Series) is my Favorite from the house of Ajmal. I was hoping for love at first sniff and was planning to buy all three in the series. All three smell like disappointment, a bad joke that you don't remember after a while. They are cheaper at $100 a piece but you can find better quality fragrances at much cheaper price. Bottles and packing is beautiful but the juice inside is an embarrassment. Sorry Ajmal you won't lasso me this time, a pass definitely.

Blind bought it and I don’t regret it, already receiving compliments from the first day. Very strong performance but mainly very clean scent, you can tell that ajmal used very good quality of ingredients as described above. Love it as it’s really nice on my skin, for me it’s unisex for sure. 8.5/10

It's the best violet perfume I've ever smelled. They usually make violet scents like air fresheners. This is not like that, it's nicely balanced. But don't expect anything special. It's just nice and balanced. It can be called an office perfume.

Beautiful white scent. Enormous silage and staying power. Arrived in a white box, bottle is heavy and has an expensive look to it. Upon first spray it opens with creamy notes and freshness. Dries down to soft musk.

Smelling this tiny 2 ml botle that i have, i fell like I need to cry, this is the most perfect floral scent, very elegant, a little powdery, on me i smell violets and musk.It s just beautiful, chic and expensive.

This is beautiful. Smells very clean and powdery which i love. Has a good strength and sillage but its not an overpowering smell so creates a lovely scent bubble with just a few sprays.

This one is clean musky fragrance. It has hint of powder and I think it is good for both male and female

Smells a lot like Love in Black to me- an autumnal fruity/woody violet with excellent staying power
