Oud Malaki

What a wondrous oil this is! The second you unscrew the cap you're hit with a delightful heavy blast of rich labdanum; thick, warm, fruity and sweet. There's the rum, but not like the alcohol. This is more like rum essence you would use in a rich fruit cake. The amber then comes through, heightened by the labdanum and vanilla and floating on a gentle jasmine. A glorious rich elegant sophisticated amber. And then you notice it, the tobacco. Oh my word, what a tobacco fragrance! There's another little bottle of oil this puts me in mind of - Al Haramain's Makkah. The two smell different, however they both possess a certain innocence. Whereas Makkah is driven by a synthetic strawberry, bizarrely redolent of certain plastic toys from the seventies and eighties, this Oud Malaki has an enchanting synthetic tobacco. This is not down and dirty nicotine tobacco, more like the scent of tobacco as if invented by a child. I'm not getting any animal notes, and the oud, if it's there, is a very gentle sweet kind. The cypriol, possibly, with deep sniffs. The sandalwood, certainly. That particular kind of soft sweet sandalwood. Longevity is very good at over 10 hours with just a small amount on the neck. Sillage is strong for the first 3 or 4 hours. In summary, if you like your fragrances warm, sweet, and spicy, with a gourmand kick of rum and tobacco, then you'll love this. Al Aneeq Oud Malaki Oil, heavenly.

I deleted my original review because I really didn't like it but some magic has happened to the juice..... Here I am almost a year later and this has been an almost daily wear this winter. The tobacco is still there but the oud is now really starting to shine which makes me very happy. I will definitely buy a back up. It also layers well with 12 yo Oud Malay by Ajmal and also Mukhallat 999 also by Ajmal as I find it carries the amber and saffron most beautifully. 12/11/25 this is now in my all time top 5 fragrances ever.

Royal Oud... So this is a new perfume house for me. The house of Al Aneeq is a British perfume brand making Arabian, Oriental-style perfumes and fragrances. This fragrance, Oud Malaki, means "Royal Oud" in Arabic. I find this to be an oud version of the Serge Lutens fragrance called "Arabie". That fragrance was a niche Eau de Parfum which combined spices, amber and dried fruits. Oud Malaki has all of those, plus a note of high quality oud. In essence, I would describe this as a smooth, high quality oud with dried fruits. It's very intoxicating, and luxurious. Apparently this perfume house states that they use a minumum of 20% pure perfume oil concentration in each of their Eau de Parfum fragrances, and if that's true, then these are well worth the money. The presentation on this bottle is top notch quality and is equal to niche brands in my opinion. I have nothing but praise for this brand and I think any oud lover should try this one. It's dark, plush, unique and wearable for a daring connosieur of oriental/Arabian perfumes. I would save this for formal and semi-formal events, cooler weather and evening wear. Very good stuff!
