Amber

This one is a really strange one on me. I smell the weird medicinal smell that someone else mentioned, maybe more than one person, which I take to be the intense top notes of the sandalwood. This settles after about 30 minutes or less into a lovely, subtle sandalwood, with not much amber or much of anything else that particularly stands out. There is a hint of patchouli. I get the smoky and sweet scent, but for me, it is all about the sandalwood; so much so, I would call this sandalwood, not amber! Not much longevity and not any sillage. Pity. I might need to layer this with something else. Once you get past the weird medicinal smell, it really is a lovely warm smell though. Just wish it was stronger and lasted longer one me.

Amber reminds me of the shelf inside any mosque where fragrance attars are stored for worshippers to apply a dash of perfume. I'm always drawn to these shelves, simply because they emanate a dark mix of complimentary scents that you can never quite pin down. I sniff each attar separately, enjoying the challenge of working out what is inside each unlabelled attar. Now I seem to have found this olfactory wonder bottled up. Patchouli, amber, smokey guayacan, labdanum and a head of saffron, subtle cloves and rosewater. Beware the opening which is very strong, but it settles down within a few minutes to a very mysterious, enthralling fragrance.

Such a beautiful amber scent. This is smokey dusty amber that is extremely familiar in the bokhoor of the middle east and north Africa, and in mosques as well. The start of the scent is strong and almost resembles salted pickles, but after just a few minutes, you get very beautiful dusty earthy amber that is enveloped in warm smoke. I only wish it would last longer on the skin, but it's portable, so you can take it with you everywhere and reapply on skin and hair and you're back radiating. As @Vamipre_7 said, this is a true Arabic specialty/blend, so it might not appeal to some noses.

this amber smells like bakhour... I really loves it... it lasts very long and has a sweet smell... I could smell it for days without hating it... I love it so much... for those who wants to know the Arabic perfume trademark, this is the one... I believes that those who went to Saudi arabia, they will familiar with this smell... I have been there... I bought a lot of arab perfumes... around 20++ perfumes... haha... I'm a perfume hunter and wish to collect as much as I can and smell it... and wear it...

This fragrance needs a certain type of skin. Allow me to explain: my natural body odor smells like vanilla and cake, and this scent turned horrible on me. On my bf, whose body smells like pepper, this oil is heaven, beautiful, warm and spicy, just gorgeous. I guess to make this work, you have to have a less sweet natural body odor, idk

this is quite similar in my opinion to the top notes of saat safa and oudy by alrehab. its very strong and typical of Arabian perfume oils, which I have a great fondness for. it has the typical musk rose drydown you get in a lot of Arabian oils too. I love it.

this on me is minty patchouli bomb with spices. beautiful stuff. try it!

I love amber with patchouli but wow. If Noxema and Ben Gay had a baby, this would be it. Yikes. Update: after bath out this on with some lotion. Either I've gone nose blind or the menthol has calmed down. I only smell amber.

This is not your sweet synthetic type of amber...this is dirty earthy amber. Not bad at all. Very thick and heavy, but not over powering. Definitely unisex. I like it! :)

WOW! Lovely oil! Another gem of Al Haramain. I love it resembles an Indian shop incense,for all seasons. Divine! 5 stars!

Definitely getting the medicinal note other reviewers have mentioned. It smells like a souk (market) I visited in Dubai: lots of sandalwood and patchouli, as well as something strangely foodie - maybe the cloves. Very moderate sillage but I suppose that's the whole point of perfume oils. Not getting any of the rose/amber that I think would round it out and soften the sour edges. Has anyone layered this successfully, and if so, with what?

I love/hate this. Hits you in the nostrils with some kind of incense and dry infused plants that seats into a lineal soapy scent. Smells very clean after an hour or two but the first hour remembers me to gambling old lady.

@Angela Agiannidou, I also agree with your statement about Amber. I love amber notes, but hate this oil. Al-Haramain has some lovely frags, but this one is hard on my nose. I cannot help but wince and close the top when I try, over and over, to smell it and find something I like. At first, I thought I was smelling something off, but my impression is consistent. I also have Makkah, which is a real pleasure to wear or just sniff in the bottle. I am sad to say I have thrown it away. That is drastic. I usually give scents away that do not work for me, but I do not want to smell this on someone. I recommend anyone considering Amber to sample it first, though it is a bargain when buying from Al-Rashad.

I am a victim of Instagram recommendation here. I saw a cool girl showing a lovely bottle, and the name suggested an amber perfume - I assumed I will love it... sadly, to me it smells just like one of those hippie shops selling Indian goods (clothes, incense sticks etc). I was hoping it will develop into something more sensual, but no. It's not unpleasant, but it's very straight smell of incense stick, and very odd one to wear on a person. The bottle looks great and the perfume was cheap, so at least it looks good on a dresser.

@Angela Agiannidou you are absolutely right! (pio dikio de mporouses na exeis :D ) And in addition let me say it reminds me of old wooden furniture or an old sofa, an old living room let's say. An old couple's' appartament where you smell some moth balls in the air.I would definitely see a man wearing it.

I don't understand, this Amber oil smells strong oud on me, but doesn't contain oud...hm I don't like it, to me it's alike Montale's oud-oriental scents, I find neighter modern nor pleasant or sexy. Longevity is not so good, about 1-2 hours

Ugh! Disgusting! heavy headache inducing chemical mess ...just another unsuccessful blind buy, but I dig these little perfume oils, and since I've discovered them I really can't be bothered that much with western perfume ... when you get your hands on them it's like being in your own little perfume laboratory and you can mix-and-match and swirl around to your hearts content ....and I do so love the thrill of the chase! and at £3 to £4 a pop there's not much love lost, so I'll keep trying. I do try to layer them though and this one didn't smell too bad when I mixed it with Al Rehab soft and a little bit of Golden from the same brand , there's another one from , Anfar called Green lemon, so when I mixed a little dot of each of that it wasn't too bad , in fact the golden was lovely with this amber. but on its own , I wouldn't recommend it , unless these little scents are meant to be layered?? otherwise don't waste your time , avoid. Also another thing to remember with these oils, don't attempt to use them immediately after you buy them, because they won't smell right but actually need time to settle , so give it a couple of weeks before you try them on and you'll find that they're much more pleasant and true . Anyway, with all that said , my love affair with Middle Eastern and perfume attars are not going to end any time soon, I just absolutely love them! And good luck with your blind buys , as a lot of the descriptions are not very accurate!!! Umph!

Sigh.... I so really wanted to like this, bought blind based on notes but I think this is not working for me. A general impression of the Al Haramain 15ml rollers is that compared to say Al Rehab roll on oils they are less oily which seems to mean more sillage at the beginning but less in the drydown phase, and less longevity. What annoys me is that during the opening when the scent is quite strong i get loads of something like lemon or bitter orange extract (almost like the type of aroma that is put in some baklava sweets). Once this disappears you can understand why the fragrance is called Amber and this phase is pleasant yet sadly very quiet in terms of sillage. I would put up with the harsh opening if at least there was a substantial fragrance left after that, but it's not enough for me to hold on to. The notes in the pyramid are probably accurate but I have "voted up" the strength of lemon and geranium as per my impression. Update: tried again and this time around I get more amber, an almost chocolatey amber and the amount of citrus sees to be just right. Perhaps you need to give it more than one chance before you make up your mind about it...

So this is pretty new for me! I went from old school chypres to buying a few Mancera's as they were cheap online, and one of them was Aoud S which was my first introduction to oud... This reminds me a bit of this and for that I love it as I now adore Aoud S! Yes, I'm sure it's probably synthetic or not the best quality but to someone new to it then it's different and wonderfully cozy! This has that oud and leather feel but more medicinal which is love personally. For under £4 it's comforting and warm but also not bad quality for 12ml oil, it's not a beast but I can detect it further away then a few perfumes I own... Couldn't tell you what was in it but but for the price I'm more than happy to explore more of the collection!

This is my second oil based perfume and for me it's definitely the way to go. The longevity is very good and sillage is just below moderate on me. It's also better for the skin, as it doesn't dry the skin out like alcohol based colognes do. The smell is a nice sweet tobacco, with a leather and honey mix in there too. Again with this scent the application does smell pretty cheap (is this all oil based perfumes?), but after an hour you do start to get that pleasant sweet smokey smell. For the price, Amber fans would enjoy this perfume.

I really really like it. It is very deep, dark, gooey amber, with honey undertones, animalic and seductive and very complicated. The oil lasts ages and ages. The more you wear it, the more underneath layers you get to understand - often its saffron with leather, but sometimes I only get amber and labdanum. By all means, - for price I paid - its smells waaaay more expensive and interesting. Dark fragrance, pleasure to wear.

Finely, my amber for summer. This is beautiful aromatic, creamy amber. On my skin is balsamic, spicy, fresh and aromatics, with charming oriental touch. Fragrance is perfectly balanced, there is no "to much" or "les" everything is, just how it has to be. Aromatic notes, lavander and Artemis, are like Glas of the water in desert. This sensual fragrance is for all seasons. And this charming ambery is completely unisex

I am struggling with this one. The opening is a strong blast of medicinal notes which I really dislike. The clove is strong with this one. After a good while it mellows into a warm sandalwood fragrance, and that's it. It stays very close to the skin. I do not get any orris, rose or labdanum. I don't want to throw it away so I will try it again on Winter, maybe layering it as someone here suggested.

Oh my god! This was way too camphoric even for my taste which is quite kinky to say the least!! At first you get a blast of strong medicinal labdanum mixed with plenty of spice which lasts an awful lot of time and which a few hours later mellows to a faint amber,wear with caution!

I'd like to try a "pure" amber scent, feminine and deep but not too much sweet (hate the candy like scent!) but I can't make my decision. There are so many scent that I don't know what to choose! :-)

Very masculine amber perfume with good sillage & awesome longevity. The quality is very higher than ordinary oils, at part with al Rehab & ASAQ 's performance. Leathery & potent!

I got this on ebay it arrived today it's got a strong smell I really like it, smells sweet smokey and leathery. Just what I was looking for it can been worn everyday. :)

Very chocolatey amber - actually it smells like patchouli. One of the most masculine ambers i have smelt very rich and heady.

Very good scent. I do not use this oil alone, I layer with other fragrancies to add more Amber and warm notes. Amazing!
