AD Alain Delon Classic

One of the best vintage fragrances of all time. Alain Delon AD has a retro vibe but is, in my opinion, perfectly wearable for men aged 40 and up who possess a certain style and elegance. The dominant notes are lavender, pine, and honey, complemented by various floral and herbal nuances in a truly well-executed blend. It is an elegant fragrance—neither heavy nor tedious—with a slightly fresh undertone that ensures the scent never becomes cloying or unpleasant. While I wouldn't recommend it for summer, it remains a great option to consider for the other seasons before heading out. It has a distinct character, yet if you enjoy fragrances like Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Azzaro Pour Homme, or Halston Z-14, you will likely appreciate this one too. The floral notes give a sort clean vibe similar to Cerruti pour homme or Givenchy insense. It isn't just a vintage piece to buy for a collection; you’ll find yourself wanting to wear it more and more. Performance is solid, with good longevity and satisfying projection—never overpowering, yet just right. The Aftershave is Amazing too! A gem gifted to us by the legendary Alain Delon. The review is based on a vintage formula, NOT the one with "classic" writing on the front. I also noticed that the colour of the juice is a bit darker in the splash bottles than the others with the sprayer. Dont worry, the fregrance is the same, i cant tell you this because i have several bottles. The Aftershave has a darker colour than the edt, maybe u can find traces of essental oils inside the liquid: dont worry, shake it and everything is ok. Im using it and the fregrance is fine!

Aah...Alain Delon..AD..! Now, I am only talking about the original juice which was founded in the beginning of the great Eighties. Make sure you get the original mix. This a very manly scent and it works well for all day use but preferably during late autumn and winter. In my opinion it is smokey, woody, dry and very distinct in its own character. AD had a very nice deostick to go with the After shave which was mild but kept odor away for a whole day. I still strongly recommend this fragrance. Today it would suit a man 35+ who has class and who is sporty, modern and who is in business - although at the time, in the 80s and early 90s, it would have suited much younger men as well. It is foremost a city fragrance, for day or night. It takes over the scene from other perfumes. It is a dominator. It also blends terrific with the smell of a stylish leather jacket. It has a serious attraction potential

Iquitos is still my favorite Alain Delon fragrance - and I really love it - but this one is fantastic as well! I have the older bottle that does not say “Classic” on it. While I do have a decent collection of vintage fragrances and thus a limited sensibility to them, I don’t purport to have a critical appreciation by any means. With that disclaimer, I note that when I read the note list, I think I did detect the lavender and green notes, and in the dry down, the cinnamon. I think that there is also a subtle sweetness about this Fragrance, but it is not at all cloying and is grounded in a mildly leathery accord. This scent does not smell at all cheap. It’s smooth, rich, and quite lovely to my nose...

The original, I believe 1980. No Classic listed on the bottle but same bottle otherwise, same cap...Anyhow my mini is WOW. Juniper springs forth amongst a sweetish fresh backdrop. Things sweeten up softly to a rich amber with incense and smoky spicey leathers woods. I agree with the Nina Ricci Philleas vibe. Both super duper quality. The sandalwood is coming out now. Ends is an amazing sandalwood. Young guys give this a go. Gals can wear this one too in my opinion...although this is as classic as they come for a men ́s scent

The original was much better than the "classic", wich is a common fragrance. Classic is not a reformulation, it is a completely different perfume. Not bad, but nothing to love or remember.

Rumor is jean martel collaborated on these alain delon frags and if that is true i definately get the paco rabanne pour homme vibe because this has that same aromatic soapy quality. To me i could wear this or paco rabanne pour homme they are interchangable as far as situations goes. I love the opening of classic more because it feels like there are some amped up animalic notes to my nose but the fragrence isnt a beast and it tends to head quickly into the dry down. I think i like the dry down of paco rabanne pour homme more as that is my fathers signature scent and lots of good memories attatched there. But i have to say that outside of the opening the notes that i really detect in this that feel like the star are the aldehydes they are just masterfully done and feel top notch like it was done by ernst beau of chanel or something lol. Just sitting at home & reapplying alain delon classic at will is how i really enjoy this frag. The sprayer just douses you with juice and the 125 ml bottle feels like it will last a lifetime. Really happy with this blind buy even though i like my honey amped up more ala boss number 1 or givenchy gentlemen the honey here is still well done. Happy to have this very rare frag and i plan on putting a serious dent in this bottle. I really enjoy these 70s and 80s and early 90s masculines and this fits right in. If you wait 30 min before leaving the house i feel like you could wear this in any weather. If you like vintage frags and have all the usual suspects and want a different frag to dissect.. give alain delon classic a try if you can find a bottle. I have never tried to original formulatuon and hear that is the one to get but the classic is the only one i could get my hands on. Alas it still satisfied my need. Shout out to chris from scentland for being the only youtuber to give a spotlight to the house. There are others from AD but i dont have the desire to hunt them down as some of these AD frags are extremely hard to find. A collectors dream and for men like me who swim against the tide. I assume i wont be getting any compliments from many ladies on AD classic but i dont care. This is when i want to be in that special state of mind. An old and very close friend of mine has had a bottle of this fragrance forever, and it says "Classic" on the front in small letters, which suggests to me that whenever people see a slight packaging change, it makes them think the entire fragrance has been dramatically changed, the strangest of psychological phenomena if ever I've seen one. Anyway, on to the scent: Typical eighties fare, but if you come to it late in the fragrance game (after years and years of wearing different seventies and eighties frags), you're probably not going to be blown away by its originality, or by its general character. There's a brisk carnation/lavender accord on top, followed by a very clean wormwood/juniper/basil accord in the heart, which lingers with some polite potency for a couple hours before fading into an ambery woods-like base, with ample oakmoss to keep it noticeable. Very nice, relatively natural smelling, especially if you've been immersing yourself in contemporary department store releases, and certainly one of the better ferns on the market. Where I take some issue with AD is in its basic structural effect - it's something I've smelled before, although not necessarily in a better fashion. For example, Jazz by YSL is very similar, although that scent has a strong coriander note, which AD lacks. Francesco Smalto PH is a more leathery variant of this theme, though AD lacks leather. There are even some aspects of AD that closely resemble Tsar by VC&A, but Tsar is far greener and a mite bit sweeter. What does distinguish AD is its overall soapiness, with each woody-green note coalescing into a convincingly masculine "clean" that isn't like anything you'll buy today. I have to think though that in the eighties, this effect was as ubiquitous as the "fresh" effect is now. Grey Flannel was the trendsetter, and everything else, including this frag, followed suit. I recommend trying it if you're not super familiar with other fragrances from its era, but if you've been into older masculines for a few years and recognize basic traits in what used to be popular, I see no need to seek it out. And even if you're a novice, you're probably better served to seek out the other frags I've mentioned here before getting to AD.

Some have claimed you should avoid the bottle that says Classic on it, as is pictured above, because that is an inferior, reformulated version. I have the original and never tried whatever is in the Classic bottle. It starts off with pleasant aromatics, which don't last very long, and then you get a linear base, which is also well behaved. This is nicely blended and natural smelling, but some may find it lacking in dynamism, though note contrast is reasonably good. I've read some compare this to Yatagan while others say it's like Third Man. It has characteristics of a few different scents of that period, including 1-12 (the pine, lavender, etc.) and the honey-oriented ones, though I would not compare it to Yatagan. One person compared it to Santos, but this is gentler and nowhere near as sweet, thank goodness! This particular composition, however, is unique to my knowledge. Projection ("sillage") is moderate to good, whereas longevity is at least very good. I have an extra bottle that I'll likely never use but with vintage prices apparently rising, I think I'll wait and see what happens. NOTE: I must disagree with hrundell because I've done a lot of research on this one. Also, if you go to the basenotes site you will see a picture without the word Classic on it. That is the one I have and that is the one they are listing as the one from 1980. My guess is that hrundell is confused because there were two bottle designs (aside from the word Classic being put on some of them). When reformulations are done, it seems like they like to use the word Classic whereas the original was not called this. This is true for Lagerfeld Cologne/Lagerfeld Classsic, for example.

I have the original (non "Classic" ) one. This was my first fragrance back in 1990 and I cannot praise it highly enough. Pure character, nothing i ever smelt even resembles this one. Nowadays it doesnt agree well with the current fragrance market taste/dircetion and therefore has been discountinued after existing for 21 years. Other nice AD scent stepped to its place but this one will always be the true, original AD.

J'ai eu la chance d'y poser mes narines sur cette edt quand j'étais adolescente et je peux vous assurer qu'il sied très bien aux femmes. Un très beau "fougère" frais, aromatique et très très chic. J'ignore qui est le nez de cette petite pépite mais c'est très très réussi. Le problème c'est qu'il est introuvable en France d'après une stratégie marketing de Môssieur Delon..... Tant pis.

Bigsly , you are talking about "AD Alain Delon". "AD Classic" is another cologne! But the bottle of the AD and AD Classic has the same designe in Europe. (bottle of AD of US version is different)
