Argentic

This is my first review so bare with me. This may have to be my absolute favorite blind buy. It is a true hidden gem and it is a shame that it's not talked about more. Upon first sniff the color green bursts to mind and stays throughout the life of this scent. There is a freshness reminiscent to the squeezing of a juicy lime. The musk that arrives helps keep that fresh zest around and somehow makes you more aware of GREEN. The story it tells from the opening to the final wisps of its skin scent stage is mesmerizingly beautiful. The quality of the blend is outstanding, especially given the price it can be found at at discounters (at the time of this article, you can have this with full presentation for under $60). Presentation: The bottle stands out even when placed next to my high-end niche perfumes. It is a piece of art for all intents and purposes. Along with the box it arrives in, Argentic brings to mind the opulent rococo styles of 18th century Europe where one can almost see Mary Antoinette passing this bottle among her courtiers. The sprayer is hands down the best I've ever used. And this is in comparison to Parfum De Marly and Dior, which had the best sprayers up until this point. It shoots out a wide layer of fine mist that coats everything it comes in contact with. Another plus is that you can control how much of each spay you want per press. Final Thoughts: Quality, quality, quality. This has become a staple in my collection, easy to wear to all occasions and any season (day or night). A unique and beautiful scent with great projection and silage. Do yourself a favor and get this as soon as possible.

Argentic is a strange fragrance; extremely unique, very interesting, highly artistic, scarred but beautifully handsome, intelligent and bat-shit crazy at the same time. To me, it is definitely more masculine but I have only sampled this one briefly. However, my bottle arrived yesterday so I'll be wearing it in the coming days. Offhand, there are some strong elements in Argentic that evoke emotions of deep love and/or deep hate . Moreover, it does have a Comme des Garcons type feel and, perhaps, even briefly reminded me of Comme des Garcons (Pharrell Williams) Girl. I'll update/provide a full reviews once I have spent a few days with Argentic. Defintely lots of pepper, woods and balsamic tones. Okay, after spending some more time with this my overall option has not changed, but I do like it more and more with every wearing. I've heard others mention they detected an incense vibe. While I do picked-up on a strong pepper note with balsamic and resinous nuances, it doesn't particular strike me as being an incense fragrance. Still, it's a very nice and unique fragrance.

The box and presentation is beautiful. Open the box and spray it on my arm. My first sniff is disastrous. Headache and Nauseatic. A turpentinish metalic smell that overflown the space. It's like a cheap lemon car air freshner. Funny thing is, my wife kinda love it. I think woman like the smell of it. Then.... interesting happen after 30~40 minutes. The heart notes appears. A spice soft wood combine with white flower. It's kinda clean smell actually. Then the drydown is really invigorating. The insence plus the wood note appear. I couldnt stop sniffing it. It's like, a new fresh printed bank notes....in a good way. The downside is it sits only for 4 to 6 hours. Overall It's an artisanal and complex perfume.

Cool! Never been the first to review something. Argentic is a big love for me - but I like weird stuff. To me, this has a nail polish remover smell - I think this has something to do with the lime/cedar/musk notes. With that said - it's not overwhelming - it doesn't seem to stray too far away from my skin. This is a 10/10 for uniqueness and I appreciate it for what it is. Although light, I can see something like this being associated with comme des garçons. Great stuff - buying a bottle! 7/10

I believe this may be discontinued, which is a true tragedy. This is a stunning spicy woody composition. It’s quite potent in the opening (mayhaps even a tad screechy). But it does last, and it’s a smooth wood, infused with lively spices and turpentine. The bottle is a work of art, and I look forward to trying more from this house.

Spicy and woody in the opening and leads to a beautiful incense note in the dry down. More masculine than unisex but very sexy sophistication. Like a sexy embrace than a hug. Definitely want the full bottle!

Wow this fragrance is a winner for me. The first sprays are a bit harsh but the dry down is heavenly. This is definitely woody and a bit spicy. I have never smelled anything like this anywhere.

The Collector line is an hidden gem discovered in Dubai. I am big fan of most bottles, but when my husband wears this one I really like it on him. You can smell citrus, spice and incense and is definitely high level ingredients for a reasonable price. Highly recommended. 4/5

This is no longer purchasable in the official Alexandre J site as a standalone fragrance, only in their 30 ml dual sets and travel sets. Had I not discovered Kalemat Black and this have an atrocious opening that I have to wait nearly 2 hours to go away(nailpolish ew) this would have been a like at least. Massive projection on my skin for almost six hours, lasts over 12 hours. That opening spelled the doom of this otherwise unique frag.

I purchased this along with another Alexander J fragrance, Oscent Black, which is terrible. This is worse. Not only is this stuff as fleeting as the other purchase but, it’s a nauseating smell too. I’m all for unique and different but jeez, this stuff stinks.....bad! Bottle and packaging are another level but seriously, why bother if the juice is just a nasty stench. To my nose, this smells like a combination of Dettol and mothballs. As with the other failure, I’ll let it sit and see if it develops at all. I despised Tom Fords Oud Minerale on first impressions but adore it now so who knows.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The opening is bergamot and although I cannot see it in the notes I am pretty sure there is some juniper in this. The black pepper adds some dark spice and a bit of interest as well. Given the gorgeous bottle and the title you might be sort of expecting something in the Oud Minerale sort of space but this is a much more traditional fragrance. Very masculine and surprisingly mature, it dries down into a veritable lumberyard of rich and darker woods, some silver birch with some lighter cedar in there as well. You even get the freshness of the greenery, a bit of smoke and some sawdust. It is aromatic and extremely refined. Other reviews have called the top notes "a mess" but I actually think they are nice and tidy. They do just enough to stop the cedar from turning this too herbal and the darker woody tones from turning this bitter. The rose in the heart is really well judged as well, as is the very clever nutmeg which helps keep this away from the bitter edges. No one accord juts out and this doesn't have any rough edges to my nose. It is a very easy, very relaxed fragrance as well. There's no drama or pretension here, it is just a really nice woody and spicy daily wearer. My favourite part is the way the incense in the base works off the amberwood, cedar and smoky sandalwood and then the musk homogenises it all. It is well judged and very well blended. The incense gets stronger and beguilingly sweeter in the drydown but this is never a sweet fragrance. Best way I can describe it to you is if you merge Oud Wood by Tom Ford, lose the wood and the sweetness, with Santal Volcanique by Crivelli but without the coffee and cardamom. Blow in an embracing puff of Greek Orthodox style incense divinity to make everything make sense and you aren't far off. It is a woodier, airier contemporary to Kaaf Noir in terms of its space and where/when you'd wear it which I reviewed recently but is more appealing to my nose and not as flat. Performance is about six hours and it does sit close from the outset and so you'll want to be heavy on the sprays I think. I am very impressed indeed with this one, I must say. I don't usually associate Alexandre J with dumb reach dailies but this is an amazingly accomplished one that I was very lucky to pick up here in Dubai for a bargain price with it having been discontinued a couple of years ago. And what a bottle! Wow! Layering suggestion: Base layer of Anum Relíqvia by Filippo Sorcinelli just to double down on the smokiness and the incense whilst keeping that woodiness and the green aromatic cedar, with Argentic over the top. Three Word Summary: I'm A Lumberjack. Scent - 8/10 Drydown - 8/10 Sillage - 6/10 Bottle/Packaging - 9/10 Performance - 6/10 41/50

The best part of this cologne is the dry down. The top is a mess, the mid is interesting, the base, divine. Great for Spring and Fall. Casual and date but let it sit after 20 minutes to pass the acetone/varnish top smell. Quite pricey for the scent and the performance is really, disappointing. Gets close to skin in a speed of light. I can't recommend.
