Rose Oud

Very interesting. A bit weird also. I've almost lost hope in rose scented perfumes, recently. I've figured out that I love rose scent, but only in my other cosmetic products like shampoo, body butter, face cream.. Of course, if the rose is real. But in perfume, it is often kind of generic and cheap smell to me. Probably because in my country, almost all of the hand soaps in public toilets are rose scented. Rose-oud combination is something I am still interested in, but normally it is too sharp for my nose and usually I do get a little nauseous. But, luckily, with this one, I've changed my mind. In my opinion, this is very well blended. It is oriental, woody, rose-y, fresh, fruity, citrusy and warm sweet, all at the same time. Some would think that they wanted to put everything in it and that it would be too much, but it's not. At all. It does definitely not smell like a hand soap. On me, it opens up with Russian raspberry jelly bonbons and before it would become too sweet, the lemon comes in and it reminds me of quality high class lemon cake. But none of this smells candy-like, it is gourmand in a very sophisticated fresh way, like pastry in which you use rose water to balance it up. Rose and oud are present all of the time and when it settles down, they kind of dominate but in the best way possible. I feel like I am wearing some very chic Turkish or Russian delight. It is so so special, but not too heavy. In my opinion, this is the scent for very important, very feminine, respected leading woman. This is something I would wear if I would be the first wife of the sultan or the queen or the leader of the army. The sillage, I think, is moderate and longevity as well, but it definitely doesn't disappear. But if you are the queen, you can spray yourself five times a day, if you want to. I love it.

I agree with Clemmy. Is is far less famous than any other brands... Luckily 😍 Ya'll, let me tell you, this was my first niche fragrance purchase, and I don't look back since. I am a happy owner of this gem. I was introduced to this fragrance at the 1907 perfumery shop, which holds really rather hard to find niches. The SA was an elegant lady around 50 and told me a story of this creation. The idea behind this is concentrated around the white rose, which was very rare among the Arabs (?), and only the favourite in the harem was allowed to wear it, as a symbol of "the chosen one". ❤️ Besides me wanting to feel special, the fragrance gave me an experience I have never had before, even after. When I sniffed it first, I lost my consciousness for few milliseconds. I remember that everything went black and then I found myself staring at the testing paper stick. It was like somebody hit me in my head. All right, so what is in there to make me feel like that? I don't know 🙄, what I smell is a magnificent opulent sweet juicy rose with other notes. I couldn't guess what the other notes were 😲, but when I look at them, I love them all anyway. It is so well blended, that you cannot tell. The scent stars with fresh rose and as it evolves, the 🌹matures. At the end you feel a fully ripe rose, which is just about to decay. But not rotten at all 😀. When I wear this (in the winter), the reactions are different. My Mum smells pine needles. My male colleague spices. My female colleague was kind enough to let me know her disgust... Ok, but she is 60 and has just discovered Chloe Chloe... No comments. So when I wear it, I feel magnificent and elegant and put together. I love love love this scent and can't get enough of it ❤️😘

Alexandre J’s Rose Oud is yet another addition to my ever-growing collection of rose-oud scents. Although Fragrantica doesn’t list oud as a note, oud and rose are the first things I detect upon spraying; the oud settles down quickly. If you loathe oud, you probably will not like this one upon first impression. This composition impresses me. The white woods and hint of oud beautifully ground tender rose petals. The rose is gently kissed with raspberry, vanilla, and toffee for nuanced sweetness. Rose Oud isn’t sickly sweet or quite a gourmand, IMO. I don't like super sweet or gourmand scents and this one still appeals to me, so that's saying something. It's feminine, alluring, and well-balanced on me. In side-by-side comparisons with my other lighter rose-ouds, it compares favorably. It is sexier than the Montale and Mancera scents in this category. My husband, whose perfume opinions I appreciate, also thinks Rose Oud is better and more overtly sexy than our comparisons. Though I didn’t need another rose-oud in my collection, I’m definitely glad I got this one. A note on the perfumery: while a couple of the six Alexandre J fragrances I own lose marks because they’re a bit too synthetic-smelling, this one and Rose Alba don't suffer from that flaw to my nose. They are worth sampling, even if you’ve encountered others from this company that didn’t wow you.

At first spray, this smelled like a very bland, generic rose oud frageance. It has that synthetic oud quality of Montale or Mancera. Given what I know about the price point for real oud, I could forgive that, but it still didn’t really “wow!” me at first. I kind of expected more from a fragrance that’s almost US$100. Sure, there are fragrances in my collection that cost more than this, but those also capture my attention immediately. This one, not so much. (I’m happy I found it at a discount after several months on my wishlist.) However, I wore this to work, and the notes that started to come out in the dry down were amazing! It turns out to be a really yummy gourmand. Almost what they call a “jammy” rose fragrance. There’s toffee and saffron, and vanilla. The fruit notes give it a brightness, while the rose, musk, and amber lend it a sultry, cozy quality. This is a really good choice for cool, sunny day, maybe Spring or Fall. Even though I get annoyed by “wait-for-the-dry-down” fragrances, this one was actually worth the wait.

This is lovely. Its not a typical rose-oud to me-it doesn't have the rich, heavy, incense aromatic overtones, instead its a light, bright, relatively sweet and summery fragrance. Its more like Turkish Delight sweets, but its not at all sickly because there is a crisp citrus in there. This is a very feminine rose-oud, others that I've tried with similar notes have been more unisex but this I think is floral and light and the top notes are quite girly and summery. However, it does settle down to a very seductive light musk with a hint of vanilla. I got this as a tester and 'm very tempted to get the full bottle (as it looks gorgeous).

this is a creation based on rose and oud (non skanky) on a raspberry opening. It is juicy, persistent and a crowd pleaser. It is less famous than many designers' creations, but the quality of ingredients has no competitor. Safe blind buy if you love rose/oud and oriental notes. It has been my signature, but now with pandemic travelling is complicated and it is not easy to put my hands on this bottle... Highly recommended 4.5/5

A very beautiful and sophisticated perfume. Perfectly balanced, it is sweet but can also be mysterious. I am sure that on the cold days of autumn or winter this will give its maximum splendor, it is a particular perfume with a remarkable wake. I love this perfume, i will definitely order a bottle as soon as my sample finishes =). It's very beautiful. Sillage: 8.5/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Scent: 9./10 Overall: 9./10

The opening is a sweet and tart (almost sour tbh) fruity accord with a whole heavy-handed fist full of musk that within the first 10-15mins reveals more and more of a soapy rose. As you can probably tell I'm not a fan of the opening. It's very heavy and quite screechy. That being said, the final drydown is much more pleasing. Once the musk finally calms down it's really a quite enjoyable fruitchouli elevated by a gentle yet present jammy rose. The blend has a clearly oriental appeal, but it is in the drydown a quite easy feminine wear. Personally, I prefer my rose-themed fragrances a bit more crisp and airy, so I wouldn't necessarily go for a full bottle, but I do enjoy using my little 8ml sampler. I don't get any perceivable oud in this whatsoever btw. Both projection and longevity are very decent. This brand has very nice little trial sets, so if you're looking for jammy rose with a Middle Eastern twist it might be worth a try. A final warning, the juice is deep amber in color, so do not spray this on a white blouse/dress.

Rose Oud opens with a cascade of spices, oud, rose and peppery lemon. It's quite chaotic and harsh. As it unfolds it settles into a very spicy, patchouli-rose-oud. The patchouli is strong and lasts from opening to drydown. For the price ($140 retail) it is nowhere near as smooth as it should be. It is very strong so you get your money’s worth there. It's just not very sophisticated. Sillage is enormous. Two sprays is almost overkill. I love strong perfumes but one spray is more than enough for me. The bottle is a bit garish. Metallic pink with pastel roses, a gold crest, gold charms and other gold adornments. It's nice, but it's not worth $140. Something like this shouldn't cost more than $40, even with the excessive bottle.

Gorgeous bottle. I gave it 4 stars because of the bottle. The opening is lovely with the fruit but it is the most fleeting opening (lasts seconds). It dries down to a rose. I use it as a bedtime scent because I do find it comforting (vs. sexy). I layer this with other fragrances for a rose note. I don't get any oud with this....I was expecting synthetic oud (because real oud is outrageously expensive). I don't get any....I hope this helps. The bottle is stunning 😍

A dry rose oud, unusually, without any heavy oil or musk, first off you get that dry rose then a refined honey/toffee note follows, never crude, it's well blended. A floral then develops and you have a lovely scent with a hint of saffron. The final stage after a day's wear is an oud skin scent. This is a dry, pleasant composition, develops at different times, never heavy and with only the lightest musk, more oud than musk. Good quality and well mannered. Nice x

Perfumy artificial Rose. I sprayed it on and was like ”meh”. About 30 mins later I walk past my husband and he says “ wow, that smells good, what are you wearing?” which is a big deal as he doesn’t really care for perfume and never compliments them!!

a dupe for balmain extatic but this is 4x more expensive and less strong. last 20mn on my skin

for quite some time Rose Oud from Alexandre J 'sits' in my collection of perfumes. it is a beautiful perfume. it certainly has reminiscences of the Montale 'Rose-Ouds'. which is a plus for me. the strange thing with this perfume is that it indeed started without Oud. the Saffron taking here the spikey Tang of a possible Oud for its share. combined with a truly ethereal Rose this gives a fullfledged, chic perfume. but then when I lately visited the website of Alexandre J, I discovered that there is now Oud listed with the ingredients and to top it off, there is also a 'Rose Oud II'. for a more expensive rendition. yet that the Oud is now mentioned as factual ingredient never changed my senses in casu this perfume. it has always clearly possessed a Rose-Oud radiation, and with the Saffron it definitely gives off a spicey character. first I understood that 'Oud' also means just ... 'wood'. so I guess all clientèle wasn't misinformed by the Les Alexandres J. and now all the puzzle pieces fall at their places. the concept is just slightly altered and nowhere to any deterimental level. it is a Smashing Perfume.

Una rosa legnosa fresca ed esperidata, sorella di Alcor Essenzialmente Laura. Rose gialle, luminose e limonose. In evoluzione il fiore schiarisce ed si ricopre di muschi e gocce di succo di pompelmo. La classica connotazione rosa/oud, dark e profonda, si dissolve, o forse non è mai partita. Personalmente prediligo le rose "rosse", ma riconosco in questa rosa "gialla" potenza, tanta energia, vigore e tenace persistenza. La interpreto come una rosa estiva, brillante come un raggio di sole.

I have a guilty pleasure with this genre of perfumes. Me and my friend call them "souk blends". They smell like the oriental section of the taxfree but in the best way possible. Warm, ultra smooth leather, the regular "oud" accord, saffron and jammy rose. Not much else and not much else needed. Lovely scent, for fans of Montale's Cuir d'arabie and Guerlain's Cuir Intense. For a high quality version, try SPA Cheval d'arabie.

If you’re familiar with Montale, you’ll probably realise straight off the bat there’s something reminiscent of Montale DNA in this fragrance. I am not a Montale fan, and also not a fan of this. Smells good at first - opens as a nice fresh rose, but dries down into very sweet gourmand “rose” (actually it smells more like red berries with mild rose). It’s just OK. Could see it being cloying.

When I got this perfume, I was on the fence about this. I got none of the rose. Instead, it smelled like bug spray. Then I let it sit for a few months. I still do not like the opening, but the dry down is a sweet rose. It doesn't project on me as much, but it makes for a nice skin scent.

Sweet delicious candied rose on a stick. Love this fragrance sweet but definitely not cloying because the lemon note cuts the sugar giving it a well balanced texture. Very pleasant.
