Counterattack

I can't tell you whether this smells like Viktor & Rolf's beloved Antidote, its stated inspiration, because I've never had the luck yet to smell that discontinued fragrance. All i can tell you is that I love this--it's a beautiful tribute to the masculine perfumes of the 80s and 90s that smelled like a million different notes beautifully whipped together at once. I can pick out the lavender and the patchouli, but otherwise it's just a ton of lovely spices and woods with a few floral notes. This is not only luxurious but also very relaxing (which is why "Counterattack" was not a good name for this). Otherwise, I'm very happy with my purchase!

This is actually very nice, creamy, boozy, spicy man stuff (pause). Similar to invidia but the same house, but sweeter. Thumbs up.

I do own V&R Antidote (15mL decant). It is awesome and still wonder why it was discontinued. I will base my review on comparison, as well as how this stands on its own. If someone gets this to be a dead ringer for Antidote, they will probably be disappointed. This misses the opening and journey that is Antidote. That is expected as this is fragrance oil...only get the dry down. Saying that, the dry down is close enough to OG that you still understand why Antidote is the balls. Frankincense, Lavender, sandalwood, vanilla and amber blended together to create a super smooth sexy DNA. Longevity and projection are average. Versatility is great...fall, winter and spring for all occasions. Once my decant is gone, I am happy this is available as I will have a substitute close enough. I’ll miss the opening and the journey of the dry down...but I’ll still be able to somewhat enjoy the glorious dry down.

#1223 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I was disappointed when Viktor & Rolf dropped "Antidote" from their lineup as it was a nice, pleasant, no-brainer for anytime, anyplace. Not particularly distinctive, but unlike other kitchen sink scents with 20+ notes, I thought the olibanum helped give it some staying power. It's possible that in the passage of time I'm misremembering Antidote as having a stronger frankincense aspect than it actually had, because it's barely detectible in this clone. It's been some years since I owned Antidote and my tastes have progressed to the more oriental scents, so I may just remember Antidote as having a more incense character and better longevity than it actually had. This is so mild it comes comes off like Bogart "Silver Scent Infinite" unless you overspray. Just not how I remember Antidote. But for the price I don't consider it bad blind buy.

Absolutely Beautiful Scent Underrated compared to other older legendary Mens frags. Smooth, rich, manly spiced, woody, floral.. Completely DAPPER approved. It’s like Envy w/o the ruggedness. Has a underlying sweetness (nilla, tonka, patchouli) that’s perfectly balanced. Subtle while definitely still being noticeable. At one point it resembles Darley 🔜 Envy 🔜 Old Spice Classic. Just sooo lovely 🤤 The final dry down is mostly just Patchouli! I Fu*king HATE patchouli!!!! Lucky this final part is tolerable & doesn’t last nor project much. 95% identical to the OG. Difference being Antidote has a more noticeable dry, mossy incense throughout & is less barbershop like. I like Counterattack better.

I've never tried Antidote, so no comparison here to Counterattack. But I will say, this scent is so good. This fragrance oozes masculine class. Compares to some of the greats from the 80's with every note and the kitchen sink thrown into the mix. Strikes me more as a classy, suit and tie fragrance, special occasions or one for the office. Darker, smooth and a bit heavy, so better for cooler or cold weather and maybe summer nights. Performance was good - about 7 hours with a mild skin scent still remaining after 10 hours. Projection and sillage were quite good for about 2 hours. Alexandria has a real winner here.

Never smelled the OG (Antidote) but l do like this fragrance and wear it often.
